This phone was not rooted, htc upgraded it to 2.3 and I'm getting errors downgrading, and ideas?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
You need to provide more details...
1. By what means did you get it?
2. Did you root the phone?
3. Do you have a warranty?
4. What kind of error?
5. A screenshot perhaps?
Explain your problem more in detail, also I think this is the wrong section for that. check the general questions section.
cant downgrade 2.3, you are stuck on there till there is a new root for it sorry
You tried using a gold card to downgrade it?
When did T-Mobile send the upgrade
Also I think this is in the wrong section

Wrong section. You should either be posting in the QA section, or one of the root threads with the error you get.
When was gb released? My sister hasn't gotten it yet.

but is the OTA for gingerbread being pushed to those who arent rooted yet?
Got the phone on craigs list the previous owner sent it in for repair for hinge issue and got it back with 2.3. The phone isn't rooted. I like 2.3 but prefer my freedom. I'm at work and can't recall the error but I can push the files with adb but get the error when I run adb shell p.... I did the goldcard. I'm thinking I'm stuck, but ill give it another shot later

It actually runs pretty good and seems to be good on battery so far internet is blazing, getting 7 down and 1.5 up and it says 4g instead of h

Meanwhile, those of us with root have had Gingerbread for a couple months now. If it's not available OTA, it's not officially available.

yup i have it too as well not a big deal, no its not OFFICIAILY OUT, but the Official stock rom is here to flash for those that want to try, this is the latest one and most likely gonna be pushed out.
as my sig shows i have one g2 rooted running cm7 and my other on stock gingerbread no root or s-off
as well this Leaked officail rom was able to fix those that had soft bricks and could not unbrick
and everyone knows to do that the roms have to be signed officialy by htc/tmobile
Currently on the cm7.0 with whatever kernal. i was wondering if updating to the new ota via manual upgrade, do i lose root s-off? if so what is the best and safest way to regain root nand unlock?
sorry its been a couple months since ive been able to get on here and what not. rom manager has been so helpful

Still kind of up in the air as to what's going on. It is locked, without a doubt. I personally believe they will push out an update or a way to unlock it. Like they said they would. I just think they already had it together before it got pushed out.

Ok I have a rooted EVO with the 2.10 hboot. I'm considering trading with my friend who has an EVO with the for now, unrootable 2.16 hboot.....If we were to swap phones, SD cards, numbers, the whole nine.... Would my phone lose root?? Thx in advance!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
since your swapping for the unrooted Evo with hboot 2.16, then yes....you will lose root. hboot 2.16 is still locked and there is no way to root it as of yet. be patient tho....there will be a rooting method out soon...you just have to give it time

correct...that will keep root...as long as your friend doesnt update with OTA
If youre on an AOSP ROM flash a Sense ROM to provision the phone (don't know about about all AOSP ROMs by Cyanogen wont let you put in ## codes or update profile to program), and flash back to whatever you want afterwards. Just don't accept the update.

Yeah but you will lose root.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Yes you can, only if you have not uninstalled anything after rooting since all the stock apps (bloatware) needs to be on the phone when using ota updates.
Just wait for a rooted version of the rom to come out
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Forgot to mention you will not loose root either when doing an ota. Since the whole point of ota updating is to keep root while updating
If you have an unlocked bootloader you can root easily. The only way for people with a locked bootloader to update and keep root is ota updating.

I had an evo 4g rooted and when the gingerbread update rolled out I lost all root completely and was unable to root. When I got my nexus is when root was available for gingerbread evo

Did you do your gingerbread update with ota? If i flashed 2.3.3 or 4.0.a (instead of ota) then gingerbreak would not work since it was patched but using ota allows us with the xperia play on a locked bootloader keep root should be the same for all using gingerbread? Maybe not?
I started on 2.3.2 rooted. Used ota to get to 2.3.3 and root was still kept. I have just updated today using ota to the newest update and i still have root.

This isnt the evo, its not even a HTC device. There are so many diffrences between the 2 companies. For example if we OTA update with unlocked bootloaders. We brick our phones. I had s-off on my hero, desire and DHD and didnt have any problem OTA updating.

Mine just found the update. I will do it when I get home and I'm on Wifi. I have the UK one on my Canadian phone.
I have and HTC One Verizon running android 4.3. It has a locked bootloader and S-On..
I tried to S-off using rumrunner but I get stuck on this error - "ERROR: looks like device is not rooted AND lacks an unsecure kernel. su or FU!!"
What do I need to do so it won't happen??
Thanks!!!!

Rumrunner won't work with 4.3. You must be on 4.2.2. Shouldn't be long before there's a method for 4.3. Just not yet.

Works for all models. Just got root/S-OFF my VZW One the other day with no problems.
It works, I'm on 4.3 hboot 1.55. Firewater unlocked bootloader and s-off.

S-off worked very well, thanks. Now if I could just undo the damage from trying a custom ROM.

Silly question. Once I use firewater and achieve S-OFF, what next? just install SuperSU from the play store to have root access? Also, do you lose data with Firewater? On 2.10.605.1.
Thanks.
No data loss, but you have to flash cwm or tarp and install superuser from there. At least I think, I'm kinda new at this too.

I believe after you gain S-off you have to install a custom recovery. Then you'll have to flash a ROM with SU in it.
