As part of installing unrevoked3 we install drivers on the PC which I believe have been hacked to do the root. After successfully rooting the phone (and installing unrevoked forever) should we revert to the stock device drivers since I assume we'll never need the hacked ones again, or is it fine to keep using the hacked ones?
They weren't hacked... They were the drivers your phone needed to communicate while in the bootloader.... They only show up if you boot in the bootloader mode...

Hey guys,
I've search through many forums for someone with similiar problems but to no avail.
I had my EVO rooted with unrevoked 3. I needed to have my phone repaired at the sprint store and since a rooted phone constitutes a voided warranty, I attempted to UN-root. I followed the DROID DEMO 2-STEP UNROOT to the tee.
After attempting to flash the pc36img, It gave me the error of :Main version older
Tried to flash the stock ruu image, wouldn't work either. Someone told me to remove the s-on image on my sd card and replace with s-off. I did that and it let me flash the pc36img, went through all the ok's and after complete and reboot, it boots to fastboot only. Also, I cannot get into recovery(triangle screen).
I downloaded android sdk with the usb drivers so I could flash the unrevoked recovery image through adb. When I go to command prompt to enter adb, the device is not found. Im guessing because USB DEBUGGING has to be enabled on the device. Since I cannot get into recovery nor boot my OS, is there any other method of forcing usb debugging on the device?
Or, If there something else I could do to get my evo to boot normally?
Any help would be definitely appreciated(A LOT!!!)
Im not really an expert(i know, why did I play around with something im not familiar with) So please bare with me. Thanks in advance!!
You're nowhere near bricked. Quickest solution would be to push Amon_RA over fastboot, then flash the same version or older ROM as the 2-step solution so you can actually use it.
If for some reason that gives you trouble, you're still S-OFF so just grab a rooted PC36IMG.ZIP and let the bootloader flash that one. Then you can still push Amon_RA through the OS using the Rom Manager (the one for clockwork, but which lets you flash alternate/Amon_RA recovery).
EDIT: I think the 1st method (fastboot commands) might only work on hboot 0.76 which you are probably not on. Use the 2nd method (ROM Manager), more info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744918
Thanks for your help! I guess I had a bad version of pc36img, I re-downloaded another version and it worked perfectly.
Thanks again, bro
Hi everyone
I have a bit of a problem, I'm trying to root my phone using the Unrevoked 3 program but it seems to be stuck on the waiting for device.
When I go into the boot mode under in device manager under the Android tab - Android Bootloader Interface. When I am not in the boot mode it says ADB.
I also dont have any HTC Sync or related software installed on my pc and I have set the USB debugging.
Do I run the Unrevoked 3 in boot mode? Very confused.
Thanks
Usman
i had quite a lot of problems with unrevoked so eventually i just used visionary + from modaco to temproot the device but perm root may have been developed for the desire since i have rooted mine
drivers
Did you install the drivers from unrevoked site? The unrevoked method is the simplest of them all for the desire. Install HTC sync, that will install all the drivers than install the ones from unrevoked site. the aplication will do all the work. seems to me that it's not working because of the drivers.
Which hardwarerevision does your desire have? With pvt4 you cannot use clockworkmod-recovery. You have to integrate amonra-recovery. Download it from here:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/attachm...-0-0-14-11-2010-recovery-ra-desire-v2.0.1.zip
Then integrate this before in unrevoked with "file>custom recovery" and choosing the download amonra-file. Now start root-process again.
Another option is the way about superoneclick:

When rooting, do you still have to install these drivers first?
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
Or does the latest unrevoked not require it?
As of Jan. when I rooted my DINC you still needed the drivers. If I'm not mistaken, the drivers are required to let you/computer talk to the phone.
I wanted to install a custom rom on my Wildfire and I succeeded, but I realized that I didn't install hacked Hboot drivers. At first I thought they were not needed, because I used Alphrev X beta to S-OFF my phone. Are there things that could go wrong in the future, if I did something wrong?
thank you
EDIT: I want to S-OFF another Wildfire and install Custom recovery+rom, should I first install hacked Hboot drivers, or not since I didnt do it the first time?
Hacked hboot drivers are to be installed in pc right. They are the drivers for pc to interact with a phone in fastboot mode. Installing custom Rom is entirely done from phone without even connecting to pc right . Then why is the need of those drivers for installing custom roms. Not at all needed.
Hacked hboot drivers are needed for alpharevx process in Windows pc only. And I think if HTC driver (not HTC sync) is installed they are also not needed. I think HTC driver includes hacked hboot drivers.
I have used usb tethering and adb and fastboot flashing (of recovery, boot, system, data, splash and other things) only with HTC driver installed. I never installed hacked hboot drivers seperately. Although I haven't done alpharevx process in windows environment to confirm that.

They won't give you any problems with installing and using custom roms.
And you have already used alpharevx. The errors with the drivers will be either they will do the process successfully or they will completely interrupt the process. No long term effects.

sorry but i have one last question:
I want to S-OFF another Wildfire and install Custom recovery+rom, should I first install hacked Hboot drivers, or not since I didnt do it the first time im not sure?
For alpharevx process you need drivers in windows pc.

I think HTC driver will be enough in windows platform. No drivers needed for Linux. And you can try that with just installing HTC driver first. A lack of driver will never brick your device. And if HTC driver is not enough then you can go with installation of hacked hboot drivers. And uninstall HTC sync if present.
Actually, I have done the process in Linux OS which is more compatible over windows.

Hi everyone, I need a little help here, I tried searching and couldn't find anything. So here I go.
My friend has a Desire from Altel which is at 2.1-update1, and band 2.05.10.08.11
I am trying to gather information so I can root it for him. Like previously stated it is a Altel CDMA model stuck on 2.1 and I can't get the unrevolked to see the phone. what is the method to rooting this phone? Could someone point me in the right direction? Do I have to update it with the CDMA RUU version 2.36.605.1 from Verison?
Thanks for the help
Are you sure you have the correct USB drivers installed? If you dont have the usb drivers installed (or the wrong one), unrevoked wont be able to see your Desire. I thought Unrevoked needed custom usb drivers by unrevoked themself.

I am actually using the OSX version, I will try it on a windows machine next time he is over...
Use revolutionary, flash recovery, flash superuser.zip
