I took a nandroid of CM6 on my Dinc, and found that fix_permissions was located inside /system/app.
I flashed Virtuoso 2.3, however I don't see a fix_permissions script anywhere.
Does anyone know where this script might be found? I am simply trying to get ROM Manager to fix permissions correctly on this sense rom.
Thanks for any help.
I had I located on my sdcard.

I did an adb push fix_permissions.sh /system/bin/ and changed the first line to:
#! /system/bin/sh0
Still no luck fixing permissions.
Has anyone been able to get this to work?
EDIT: I can fix permissions from adb shell by running:
cd /system/bin
./sh
./fix_permissions
Running this from ROM Manager doesn't work.
Where can I download the latest fix_permissions script?

You don't need a zip file to flash. It is already on your device. You only need to remove the HtcLockScreen.apk and the 2.2 vanilla lockscreen will be shown. This has the vibration when unlocked.
I believe you can simply remove using root explorer
OR ADB:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app/
rm HtcLockScreen.apk
adb reboot
OR TERMINAL EMULATOR:
su
cd /system/app/
mount -o remount,rw /dev/mtdblock3 /system
rm HtcLockScreen.apk
reboot
DONE AND DONE!
This guaranteed WORKS
What Rom are u running? I extract Calkukin's EViO ROM with 7zip, drop the framework files from Fresh, zip it back up, flash and voila, vanilla with vibration...(calkukin has a vibrationless vanilla lock)
If your problem is as previously mentioned, then yes, you need to delete HTC lockscreen. Check Calkukins EViO thread for a flashable zip to remove it.

It doesnt have vibration on it still.
Hello Friends,
I am using DHD since last few weeks, i have downgraded it to 1.32 and can use superuser access. But now i have been facing new problem. i am not able to reboot using terminal emulator. is there anything missing? I was adding new font to my system fonts, but at the end of it we requires to reboot it, its simply said "not permitted!"
can anyone please help me in this regards!
Thanks in advance.
Are you on a custom rom?
I had a quick look in leedroid with root explorer and it seems the permissions are incorrect for /system/bin/reboot.
rwsr-xr-x where it should be rwxr-xr-x
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.
Using Unity 1.29,have checked my permissions on /system/bin/ reboot -rwxr-xr-x root shell, busybox is also good tried
$ su
#reboot
and get "not permitted"
I know i could just use the buttons but would like to be able to do it from the terminal, checked on a nandroid backup of CM7.03 and the command works from terminal, anybody any ideas how to get it working? Its got me completely stumpted!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also happens to me with Revolution HD
Try from the terminal
$su
#reboot -f
BUT when using a gscripts reboot doesnt work???????????
I have to use the command busybox killall system_server in the script????
Try it and see how you go
Alright, when I turn my phone on LauncherPro keeps forceclosing on me, and I can't do ****. I just get 'the application LauncherPro doesn't answer', and an option to force close. When I push force close, the same message pops up again, so I can't access my phone. Is there any way I can fix this via adb or something? What I think caused the problem was that I downloaded and adb pushed a LauncherProPlus.apk (don't know the exact .apk name of it) to my phone (extremely stupid, I know).
Also, is there an adb command to view your phones files? Please help me out with this.
Have you tried wiping dalvik from recovery and then rebooting?
If that doesnt work, you could try pushing another launchers apk to /system/app or /data/app.
Or do you have a backup that you can restore?

Just remove the launcherpro apk again with adb. It's either a normal adb command or you have to use a shell. Make sure you have a other launcher on the phone when doing this.
If this sounds to complicated and you pushed the apk to /system you can reflash your rom without wiping data.

Do you have an adw.apk or something? I'd like to try this first, as I have no recent backup. What do you mean wiping dalvik?
nvm guys, I managed to uninstall LauncherPro by adding a shortcut to installed programs on widgetlocker. I didn't manage to remove it with adb for some reason. Thanks anyways! Appreciate it.
Try wiping dalvik cache through recovery first.
Boot phone with vol down and power. Then choose recovery.
In the advanced menu, there should be the option to wipe dalvik cache.
Reboot.

Actually, I have one more question. I downloaded this file: http://www.4shared.com/file/EMhprjdn/LauncherPro_Plus_v083.htm and pushed it to my /system/app using ''adb push file name and location /system/app''. Now I can't find any way to delete it, doesn't work with any file manager, neither do I have any adb command. This is a problem because as long as I have this file in my /system/app, I obviously can't use LauncherPro downloaded from the market. Anyone know how?
You need to do...
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
rm launcherproplus.apk
This is going from what I remember. Check the apk name also.
You can do
ls -al before the rm command to list the files in the directory.

Thanks a bunch, but when I do ls -al, it says the launcherpro.apk name is ''LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk''. An .apk isn't supposed to have spaces I guess? Anyway, when I type in rm LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk I get:
# rm LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk
rm: can't remove 'LauncherPro': No such file or directory
rm: can't remove 'Plus': No such file or directory
rm: can't remove 'v0.8.3.apk': No such file or directory
Can you try putting the apk name in quotes?
rm "xxxx.apk"
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
No, that didn't work either... damn
Tried single quotes? rm 'Xxx xx.apk'
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
When I tried that I got:
# rm 'LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk'
rm: can't remove 'LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk': Directory not empty
At least seems like a step forward
And you're booted into recovery?
Also, try putting
su
Before issuing the command.

Guess like this; su rm 'LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk'
but that gave me permission denied.
I tried booting into recovery earlier, but when I did that ''adb remount'' didn't work.
btw, i really appreciate all your help. thanks a lot mate
Ok, you need to be in recovery.
There's an option in one of the menus to 'mount system' - choose that.
Then try
adb shell
cd /system/app
rm 'xxxxxx.apk'
You wont have access to delete from /system while your phone is booted as I don't think you're S-OFF.

It worked! Thank you so much! You literally saved my day!
No problem mate, happy to help
Might be worth taking a backup for the future

Will definitely do that!
Hi Guys,
I am having pretty much the exact same problem as CH3Z, however i'm having problems locating LauncherPro.apk (free ver).
I've tried using the ls -al command and it doesnt show up there so i'm stuck @ the moment on what to do. I understand that i need the exact name of the apk but i dont know where it is. Any help would be appreciated.
Am running SuperNova Gingersense ROM.
Hello,
Quick noob question. Today I was experimenting with my phone. I decided that I wanted to push an apk through adb (without much experience on adb). I did this by
Code:
adb remount
adb shell chmod 644 /system/app
adb push .apk/system/app
adb push (a lib file).so /system/lib
adb reboot
Since then my phone has been stuck on boot loop. I'm pretty sure maybe it's because I forgot to mount perhaps? Again, I am new to this. Also I've tried mounting system and data through recovery 4ext. Didn't help.
Can anyone explain what I did wrong? Or fix my problem? Thanks!
EDIT: Fixed the problem by flashing another rom, but would like to learn what I did wrong though. Thanks
To install an app, you need to use 'adb install path/to/app.apk'.

though I'm assuming he wanted to install it as a system app, in which case I would have rebooted into recovery, mounted /data and /system and moved the already installed app from /data/app/ to /system/app/ to make it a system app. (and made sure the appropriate chmod permissions were set). Then rebooted after that was done.
Shouldn't be messing with the /system partition while the phone is booted live.

Yes that was my intended purpose. Thanks.
My guess is you broke it by chmod'ing /system/app.
Making it completely not-executable would've stopped the phone from loading any system apps.

I think you want something like "chmod 644 /system/app/*" The difference is the /* at the end. Your original command made the directory inaccessible. The new command just changes the files inside. The actaul directory should have 755 permissions - "chmod 755 /system/app" without the /* at the end.
Was just wondering if there is a way to replace the framework with just using root without a custom recovery for the stock Rom?
On my s3 I couldn't do it with just root don't know if that would work on this or if I might have missed something.

All you need is to be rooted, it does not matter if you have custom recovery or not.
You can install any apk's since you do not need to go into recovery to install apks.
When I tried with root only before on a different phone I used root explorer to replace.
But when I went to paste it in the folder the phone locked up and rebooted.
Was that not the right way to do it?
Maybe using adb terminal would be better and not cause it to lock and reboot when I paste over the existing framework-res.apk.
Being in the system directory causes some issue with being that is also a constant used file.

The framework-res.apk should be installed like any other app
unless the OP of wherever you got it from gives instructions
to "copy" it to the /system/app folder.
Why not do it the default normal way? just double click on it
when you are in root explorer and it should install like any
other app. If it gives an error, then you can copy it.
If you "copy" it you have to fix permissions and you have to
change the attributes of the /system/app folder so it's "read and write".
NOTE: if there is an existing framework-res-apk in /system/app
delete it with root explorer before doing any of the above.
Framework-Res.apk must reside in system directory. /system/framework to be exact.
Easiest way to do it without locking up is with adb.
You were right OP that it locks up because it's consistently being used. When I make my mods and such to the framework, this is how I quickly get it to the device.
adb remount (if the kernel supports it in other words, anything but stock)
Turn phone screen on
Adb shell stop (your phone should now have a black screen. This command stops all running threads except the one for adb)
Adb push framework-Res.apk /system/framework
Adb shell chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-Res.apk
Adb shell start
You should now see the boot animation then the prompt "android is upgrading"
If you do not have adb remount option (it returns with permission denied)
Copy new framework Res apk to root of internal sd card.
Adb shell stop
Adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
Adb shell cp /sdcard/framework-Res.apk /system/framework/framework-Res.apk
Adb shell chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-Res.apk
Adb shell start
Just a pointer, disregard my capitalization. Only capitalize when needed.
This method should get everything copied successfully. Any issues just post back!

Oh thank you very much.
I will give that a try and sounds exactly like what I was looking for.

Not sure if this is really relevant but...
When I had the samsung vibrant, I used root explorer to make a copy of my framework-res.apk. I extracted the entire thing, found my battery icon files, replaced them with different images given the same name, then repacked the file. Then I copied it back to the original folder to replace the original apk and my phone immediately shut off and rebooted. When it came back I had my new battery icon working just as I had hoped. I was rooted running stock.
Wait... Are you saying that I can simply copy the framework-res.apk from SlimKat and use it on a Google Play Edition ROM?
I'm going to try it!
