Store apps on internal? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am not sure if this is smart or possible, but since I only have a 2gb sdcard atm, can I change the default install location to internal memory? I have hardly used any of that 6gb of space and my SD gets filled up fast with apps, titanium backups, nandroid backups, and grooveshark files.

[Q] Why put apps on the SD card if I have to reinstall anyway?

Ok just go ahead and forgive me if this is a noob question or just so obvious that I've overlooked it... Like a lot of you, I like to flash (roms!)...a lot. And of course most of the time this involves a full wipe and reinstall of my apps. So since I have to reinstall everything anyway, what is the big deal about being able to put apps on the SD card? Is there some way they can be installed on the SD card without losing them during a rom change?
If you have a lot of apps, moving to sd will save space in the internal memory. Whenever you flash a new ROM, you will have to reinstall apps each time, no matter where they are stored. IMO, Titanium Backup does a great job restoring apps, and doesn't really take that long to do.
Thanks trickster...so you're referring to the internal memory vs internal storage correct? So the apps use the internal memory like the RAM on a PC but if they're on the SD card, they use the SD card space instead? Does this add a perfomance boost as well conceivably?
The apps use internal memory no matter where they are stored. It's the storage space that is saved internal vs SD card. Some apps, however, require that they are on internal storage to work more efficiently.

Use Titanium Backup to free up space (CDMA)

I just thought I'd share a little tip that I used to free up 30 mb on my Desire CDMA. Obviously, with CDMA, our options are limited in freeing up our limited amount of space since we can't take advantage of cm7r2 or data2sd. I was playing around with my phone the other day, and was using Titanium Backup to move data to the SD card. I just thought it would only move the current data to SD, but it seems to force apps to use the ext partition to store data! At first I just tested with a few apps that store a lot of data on internal memory (Trapster, Facebook, Navigon). When those apps continued using the ext partition for data, I moved data from most of my apps to the SD card, and so far I haven't encountered any errors.
I have a US Cellular Desire CDMA rooted s-off and running CM7.1, darktremors apps2sd script, and an ext4 partition on my SD card. To move data to the SD card, load Titanium Backup and click on the Backup/Restore button at the top. Long-click on the apps that use large amounts of data storage, scroll down on the pop-up menu, and click on "Move app data to SD card."
If I've missed or left out anything, please chime in.
Most of mine have been moved already , but one that I have not moved, for what ever reason , have a warning at the bottom of the menu:
" Warning : moving apps to SD is risky." etc etc
There is however no option to move the apps.

[q] need to free up space on internal sd card

I need to make room on my internal and even on my external sd card, i have made backups using titanium backup... all i need to know is what folder contains those backups and what folders have my saved games including glu, gameloft, etc
The game data on your SD is only thongs like textures music etc. Delete all of that, it will are download when you load the game again. The folder wothbyour titanium backups should be labeled titanium backup.
Is there any way to make your SD card as a default storage for everything? I did it with my pictures and stuff, but apps keep installing straight to the phone.

You can't install everything on SD Card. Even when you move applications to SD, they will only transfer partially. Why do you want to move it all to SD ? You should have about 2 GB almost entirely dedicated for your apps.

Thinking about upgrading to this

I'm thinking of upgrading
my current phone is a bravo with most of the apps and music on my 16gb external card. So If I restore or backup my phone the music etc large files don't have to get backed up/restored since they are on the external card. I prefer this setup
1. What do CWM backups look on this considering that most of the memory (32gb) is internal? If I put 13gb of music on my phone would CWM backup my music every time since it backs up everything on the internal memory?
2. What is the maximum external sd (since it doesn't take sd hc) card file size?
3. Could you switch to something other than 4g to conserve battery? How simple is this with stock rom rooted.

1. If you put your music on an external sd then CWM would not backup your music just as you are doing now but if you put the music on the internal memory then it most likely would. I would recommend using Titanium Backup also, it is the best app for backing up apps and settings etc.
2. I have a 32 GB external microsd hc card in the phone along with the 32 GB of internal storage. Not sure why you say it doesn't take sdhc?
Largest officially supported card is 32 GB (from samsung website).
3. There are apps in the Market that have 4G/3G/2G toggles. I couldn't say if they are compatible with this particular phone but they exist so it should be fine.
Nandroid backup does not back up the sd card (I.e. pictures mp3s etc). My nandroid are about 2.5gb.
You can use a 64gb card.
Titanium backup is great but not a replacement for nandroid. Both should be used for full backup solution.

Problems with internal memory (sd card)

Hi,
I know it is not such a good idea to use an SD card as internal memory. But unfortunately it has now happened.
I use a Motorola G5s with Android 8.1, 64 GByte SD card as internal memory. Now I would like to switch to a new Android and backup everything via the Google cloud before (I have tried to use the backup in the settings of Whattsapp). Both Whatsapp backups and ThreemaBackups abort, probably because there is too little memory. The internal shared memory is given as 13.04 used by 32 GB and the SD as 63.06 used by 64 GB. I have removed Apps & Videos, only the internal shared memory becomes free. However, the backup problem remains.
I already accessed the folder of external memory via the Android settings and deleted the video, but they were right back, so they were not deleted. I could only delete them via PC; but the memory space was not freed up in the SD card memory either, but in the internal memory.
It seems to me that the SD card memory is too full, but I can't free up any storage space there either?
What can I do? How can I make Whats App etc. find enough memory again?
Kind regards
Alex
Hi,
I try to migrate the data. Migration was aborted with error "not enough memory"; all data still there, only no improvement.
Does anyone know what I can do? SD formatted as internal, not migrated, migration aborted. Deleting files won't make things any better. We can't store anything on the device anymore, accordingly no backups can be made using the Whatsapp app
