Can't get MMS since 2.2 Root - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since I rooted using Unrevoked's method & flashing HTC OTA Froyo 2.2 Deodex RevE.2 with KiNgxKernel #6-BFS I can no longer receive MMS. It shows up but when I hit download it does nothing. Have data wiped, updated profile & prl & reflashed twice but with same results. Wondering if it is the root method messing things up. I ran this same ROM on my other Evo rooted with Toast's method and didn't have a problem. Any suggestions? Or can I use the first part of Unrevoked's method to downgrade to 2.1 & then use Toast's method to root?

You can, or since you have root access you can try any other ROM.

Thanks. I've went through my ROM hopping days. I actually like stock Froyo after some of the Sprint bloatware is removed. For me it's the kernel that makes the most difference. That's why I went with this one but I will root again when I get off work & try some different kernel variations to see if I can track down the MMS culprit.

Dinc 2.2 Root Question

Ok, I rooted my dinc when with Sky Raider 1.9b. Never was fond of trying to flash the radio etc, so I used this for awhile. Then I heard the OTA was coming from Verizon, so I went back to the stock Rom and waited for the OTA. It came, I tried to download it and it didnt work, so I downloaded it from XDA and everything worked fine. I am now on 2.2 Radio 2.15.00.07.28, but I want to be rooted again.
I go to Unrevoked and see this "At this time, unrevoked3 does NOT work on stock Froyo (Android 2.2) phones."
Is my phone now considered stock and I can not root my phone, until they figure it out? Or what can I download to get me rooted and back to using custom roms?

Do you have your phone set to S-OFF? If so, there is a way to reroot it. Go to this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771178

Evo root 2.1 to 2.2

I havean evolution that was rooted with 2.1. I am wondering if I can just put a 2.2 rom on it or should I unroot, update to 2.2 then reroot?

Isn't an Evolution a car?
Why would you possibly want to un-root?

Just boot into recovery, do a nandroid backup, then a full wipe and flash the new ROM.
Dang auto-correct...no evolution, just an evo...thanks...that's what I thought

Also, i am wondering if i can put the newest official rom on it while its still rooted so it will be stock 2.2 apart from being rooted, and if not, what is the closest to stock 2.2 rom that runs stable and isnt missing anything. Im doing this for a friend and he wants stock 2.2 with root access

Well the general rule for root users (and soon to be root users) is never take the unrooted OTA update from Sprint until an official root method for it has been confirmed. That said, I've read in another thread that Unrevoked 3.21 (or whatever the newest version is) apparently worked perfectly for at least one person.

[Q] 3.70 update help

I have a rooted evo and I want to update to 3.70, but that would mean loosing my root adn well it doesn't work! What is the best way to update my phone without having to re install everything? I used unrevoked to root it last time, is there an easy way to do this again.

Look into MikFroyo. It is a stock sense without all the sprint bloatware. It already updated to 3.70 fully rooted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883026
I've learned that with each update released, that rom you are using will release a new build of that rom with the update incorporated into it. Then you just need to update your radios and PRI to match it and you will be good to go.
Okay so it looks like the best thing to do is to reload, so if I do that will I need to reconfigure all my stuff? I am using launcher Pro, so I don't want to re do all that configuration. If I use a tool like Titanium back up can I then restore and have all the config done? Could someone give me a guide on how to do this update correctly, the last time I did this it was one file no radio update required. thanks

Q> My phone is rooted.. how do I get the OTA update?

I want the new update on my EVO.. it is rooted with Unrevoked or revoked..
When I run the OTA update it goes to the screen with the android and a Triangle with an ! in it..
What do I need to do to get the new update?
Here are 3 scenarios that will help you out:
1. You can unroot by running an RUU, take the update, and lose root user access. There is currently no method to attain root user access on the new OTA update.
2. *IF you performed a root method in which you flashed UNREVOKED FOREVER - You can unroot, accept the OTA update, flash AmonRa PC36IMG.zip and still retain root user access
3. You can manually update the radios, wimax, etc; and then flash the STOCK root version of the OTA update from the dev section.
Good luck, and ask any questions you need.
You are already rooted so the easiest way to get the new update is to flash a rom based on the new update. I personally use fresh 4.1.1, but there are tons of options to chose from.
You have gotten great suggestions and help above and my suggestion would be before going any further do alot more research. There is a lot of helpful information in here but none of it will help you at all if you dont read it.
I believe your best route is to go with the thoughts of the second posters scenarios and good luck. Have fun with your Evo but read OP's and stickies because in all honesty you could of been updated your new radios and rom within 20 minutes if you were already rooted.
Stock Rom - all the info can be found in his OP
i was android 2.2 then installed kings rom and it out me to 2.3.3
Can someone elaborate a bit on this point:
2. *IF you performed a root method in which you flashed UNREVOKED FOREVER - You can unroot, accept the OTA update, flash AmonRa PC36IMG.zip and still retain root user access
Not sure what I used but I suspect unrevoked forever but I"m not sure. When i tried grabbing the OTA, i wound up in a recovery screen I think. Can I disable root from in there, grab the OTA, and then download this AmonRa or should I just apply an image already floating around? Someone suggested Fresh 4.1.1
@joeynuggetz
Im not sure how to step back out from the recovery after trying ota, but I WILL say, to all who care about keeping root, just use one of the roms in the dev section that is stock with root. There are a few.
But yes, as was said earlier, if you used unrevoked forever (and only you know), from what I've read you can take ota, then reapply amonRA using the pc36img. (Im only reiterating what has already been suggested)

[Q] Advice on getting 2.3 on my rooted G2?

Last November I rooted my T-Mobile G2 using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965&highlight=[guide]
I also installed Clockwork Mod.
I did not install any ROM, and I'm currently running otherwise-stock Android 2.2, build 1.22.531.8. I have ROM backups from Nov. 21 and March 21.
I'd like to install the 2.3 update (I've gotten the notification, but it won't execute, obviously), and have spent the last couple of days absorbing the various un-root guides posted here and around the tubes. The best un-root method appears to depend on which method was used to root the phone.
I've downloaded the PCI10 1.19.531.1 image, the stock_root image, and the stock recovery, and looking at the best way to move forward.
Is it necessary to undo all the modifications (S-off, HBoot, Recovery) before the update will self-apply?
If so, which un-root guide would you recommend for my phone?
Also, I'm running alogcat to try to get the download link - if I get that, should I try to update using Clockwork?
Thanks in advance.
Well currently there is no sure-fire way to root the OTA 2.3 release, so if you do choose to unroot and take the OTA you won't be able to get rooted again.
If you want 2.3 and still want to be rooted, you're best off either waiting for a pre-rooted OTA build that you can just flash to and not have to mess with the actual OTA, or you can use one of the AOSP-based 2.3 ROMs in the dev section.

Thanks.
But assuming I am OK with losing root, does anyone have a recommendation for which "back to full stock" guide to use?

You're okay with losing root only if you're okay with losing any of the features you use that required you to root it. If you rooted in order to overclock, you won't be able to anymore; if you rooted to get rid of the bloatware, you won't be able to anymore.

Now I'm not sure if this applies to all gingerbread otas, but you should always be able to go back again if you need to, since there's now a way to downgade and subsequently achieve root: Downgrade
OP:
I agree with martonikaj - I am doing what he suggests - just wait for someone to release a rooted version of this OTA update!

Yep, there's really no reason to get ancy and waste your time unrooting just to get a manufacturer release of 2.3, when you can have completely bone stock AOSP 2.3 right now and still be rooted.
And if you want the pre-rooted OTA version, you'll be able to get that soon too.
Thanks.
