[Q] Home Screen Label - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of a way to label each screen on the Dinc? I would like to set up a screen for my wife and put her label at the top. I don't mind taking up a row with a widget.
If something does not exist, could someone create one or lead me in the right direction for creating one for myself?

Bueller... Bueller... Bueller...

Are you just asking for some text that says your name? If so, then I think I remember seeing an app that could take your wallpaper and make a new one with numbers on the bottom for each screen. You might want to look around on the market for it to see if it has been updated to include custom text, or you could try to edit your wallpaper yourself, but that might be rather difficult to get perfect. Hope this helps.

Depending on what you are trying to do, Scenes could suit you. Set up a scene for her.

Customizing the Lock Screen?

Alright guys, I need some help building my theme.
So I'm in the process of making my own theme and one thing I really want to do is set up my lock screen the same way that I think Aero and Gloss Suite have it (example attached) but with the default black background with it (its a really high contract black and white theme). Any chance of getting pointed to the right files to mess with?
Also, I was wondering how difficult would it be to change the color of the font on that screen as well.
I very well might be searching for the wrong thing too (it is the lock screen right...technically?) So a forum link or something would be amazing help as well.
Immense thanks for all your help guys and girls. You guys make having a G1 worth the smack talk from the iphone guys ; )

There is one XML edit to make in res/layout yes, but the way to get a lock screen looking nice is by replacing (and I forget the exact name) popup_full_dark.9.png in res/drawable. Essentially, you make this the image that you want to be centered horizontally, and then justified bottom, then it fills it with its text. For my own phone, I went with a black image that goes about 80% up the screen, so I have a centered unlock prompt.
Ahhhhh alright I'm seeing it now. That helps a lot Ooglez. Haha no offense Reason but I had a bit of a sigh of relief was it turned out to just be .9s instead of xmls. Whew.
Thanks a bunch guys. Seriously... you guys rock. If you see a theme by me on here soon you'll know it worked out for me. Thanks
Alright I have another question. Not exactly related to the topic at hand but its gonna bug me till i figure it out. Hopefully someone thinks to peek in here again.
What file controls the background for the Pull up tray? The pull down tray im pretty sure is the status_bar_background.9 in the res-drawable folder but I cant figure out the pull up tray tab thingy. I believe its doable cuz I think ive seen various themes with different opacities on the pull up menu but..
Any ideas?
The pull up tray handle is found in the Launcher.apk and is in the /res/drawable-land and /res/drawable-port directories.
Thanks Daveid. But I was actually looking for the background of the pull up tray. The handle isn't to bad to change around. Thanks again though
another xml edit...but its a color value not a background image, except for if you are using the g build.
Stericson
Hmmm, alright guess I'll leave that be for the time being. Thanks for all your help Stericson. For now and hundreds of other times as well
So... I didn´t understand what it´s said...
I mean... where can I find the xml related to the lock screen?? Can I just replace the xml and soft reset to change the position of the hour and the lock??
thanks for help!
S81, I'm not too sure about the xml editting for the lock screen. What I ended up doing was changing the popup_full_dark.9.png file located under framework->res->drawable in the theme folder. Search for ".9.pngs figured out" for stericson's thread/tutorial on how to change .9.pngs. I warn you though, its not for the faint-hearted and from what I understand XMLs are supposed to be worse so if thats the path you want to head down, good luck mate
thank you man! I´ll have a look at the weekend and tell you what´s going on
Eh I hate being given credit for something I didn't do...Just a correction but the .9's were not figured out by me, they were figured out by Damnitpud, if I'm not mistaken....
As for the lock screen xml edit....The only thing you can really change is the position of everything else, but not the order...at least not yet..Any way it's a big hassle for a little bit of customization....

Hi -- check out Home Screen Title Widget Free or Pro version apps on Google Play -- they do what you are asking for.
I always use minimalistic text.

The other home screen title app might work, too.

[HELP!] Popup Images

So I had these pop-up graphics from another rom or theme (I don't remember which) and I'm trying to make them have a blue border. Got that done with no problem, but the popup_bottom_bright.9.png image keeps stretching the blue line at the bottom on the power button popup screen. Anyone know how I can get this to work? I also attached the original green image. I'm not sure if there's a problem with the other ones, the bright bottom was the only problem I could see.
Thanks!
No one wants to help me?
this is the themes and apps section. If you want answers you need to post in questions section, after all this is a question. I will still help you though. .9 png's are a *****. plain and simple. I personally watched a youtube video to figure them out. I suggest you do the same. a quick google search of this will help you. there is a program in the android sdk tools folder that will fix this. hope this helps.
Yeah so far this has been a giant pain in the ass.

[Q] [HELP] Finding correct PNGs

Does anyone know a guide that will tell someone which images in drawable folders are to what? I need a freakin road map. Tired of looking through all of these.
Anyways, I'm trying to find the image to change the USB notification icon (the one that pops up when usb cable connected/charging). Also trying to find the background image(s) that is behind menus such as: Power button options, app selection window, pretty much all windows that pop up on the screen with options.
If someone knows and could point me to the names of these that would be terrific.
Thanks.
Seriously?
Where is the community love? I know someone on XDA knows this stuff.
I'm wondering where the power menu backgrounds are aswell.
Not to steal your thread but I'm looking for the "all apps" header.

Just post over in the dev section. Its the wrong section, you'll get flamed, but your question will probably get answered. Everyone complains "post this in the general/questions section" but everyone knows the only ones getting are themes/mods and the dev.
Sorry I couldn't be constructive and answer your question.

Why don't you dissect an existing theme and see what is changed in that. That's gunna be your best road map. And the usb icon is not in the system, its in PCSC11.apk in system/app

Are you using a Sense ROM or some AOSP variation? Because the .png is in different places and named different for the USB icon. The USB icon is in the frame-res.apk and is called stat_sys_data_usb on AOSP and on Sense its in the PCSCII.apk and is called usb_to_pc_notify. As far as your other question, you pretty much answered your own question. Theyre called popup_.xxx.png. Theres full, medium, dark and bright ones. They control all the pop-ups. Also again it is important which Rom youre using because in AOSP theres only one set in frame-res.apk and on Sense there's two sets one in frame-res and one in htc.resources.apk and you have to change both of them because they pop up for different things.

Sense based. I changed the popup ones but didn't do what I needed. Gonna just change all the menu named ones and should find it hopefully. Thanks for the help.

Changed all the popup_xxx.png that I could find but still didn't change the power options menu (one from holding down power button), the "do you want to add this number into contacts" one, and some other popup menus. Any ideas on where I need to look?
Thanks.

The power options menu icons are buried in com.htc.resources.apk from what I remember. Trying to theme Sense is a huge pain in the ass compared to AOSP since the PNGs are all over the place and there's some that aren't even used packed in there too.
Edit: Wait, just realized that's not what you're looking for, if I'm correct on what you're looking for, I'm not sure where they're at either but it should be framework-res or com.htc.resources.

Hubs layout and Nova prime

I'm bored and looking to do a Hubs layout on my N7. I use Nova prime and would prefer not to switch. I'm also trying to get Simple Text to work properly. So, I have a couple questions as I've started looking at this.
1) I followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232359 but it uses a different launcher, where you can use "catalogs". Nova doesn't have this feature. Wondering if I create a folder with all my apps in it, "hide" it with a blank icon (per the vid), would it show up like the catalog does in the tut? Has anyone used Nova prime for Hubs?
2) I like the idea of using word instead of icons, like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786323. When I use Simple Text, my word icons are pretty small, no matter the size of the text I select. If I use a large font, it squeezes it to fit into the smaller space (if that makes sense). I'm guessing it's squeezing it to 64x64. I have changed my DPI, wondering if that is my issue (why it looks so small).
Any tips for a Nova prime user?
Hmm, am I the *only* person attempting to do a Hubs layout using Nova prime???
I'd like to know this as well. I also use Nova Prime and I don't really want to switch to anything else, as I love Nova.
Still, I just may play around with this and see what I can do. If I run into anything interesting I'll let you know.
Edit : Maybe these will help?

This guy has done a really nice job with his N7, and he's running Nova, too.

Well, since I had little response, I just kept playing around. I *think* I have what I need. I've only been playing with features, etc, I have not completed this as of yet. But here's what I've found:
I've locked Nova to landscape
Removed margins from Nova settings
Create the black/gray bar as the tutorial states, using Minimalistic Text.
Create a new Simple Text widget, 2x1 horizontal. The action (or whatever it's called) would be to goto page #x, where x is the page you want the word link to go to.
Make sure you allow widgets to overlap in Nova settings.
That would get the bar with word links to whatever page you need. Now, for catalogs. I have not found a way to really replicate it. But, what I've tried is to create a folder of apps, replace this icon with a transparent icon, then place this icon "behind" whichever word you want to show the catalog (or in this case the folder). If you're following the video, then when you're on the games page, you have a transparent folder for "games" that you place behind the "games" Minimalistic Text. Since you're on the "games" page, it won't be a link to a page, but since you've put the transparent folder behind it, when you click the text, it will pop-up the folder. Now, this folder is not as pretty as the catalog, but it is essentially the same.
Now, to answer my question #2 - I was attempting to replace a folder icon with Simple Text icon. Well, this would squeeze it down quite a bit. Instead, create a Simple Text widget (2x1 or 2x2) as described above. Then, it can be resized as needed.
Again, I've only begun to play with this, but I think this should work as expected and hopefully get us (us as in Nova users) on our way. :fingers-crossed:
I noticed you added some links while I was replying - I'll check those out to see what those have to show. Thanks!

No problem, thanks for your reply too. I'm at work now so when I get home at night I'll have a go at this and post the results - if they don't suck
Okay, so I pretty much did this. Did all the wallpapers, which took forever, then made all the text icons, which took another forever. End result, I didn't like it. While it looks cool I suppose, it pretty much gets ruined and goes all awkward whenever you change your screen orientation. I had already thought of that, but I thought, how bad can it be? Well, it certainly annoyed me, and I uninstalled all the crap I put on there and went back to the way it was. It's just more functional this way.
Also having the wallpaper change on every screen irritated me for some reason. Like nothing was consistent anymore. Anyway, I didn't like it.

Did you save the settings and icons when using Simple Text? That should greatly reduce the time, I imagine. Also, in my earlier reply, I suggested locking it to landscape - simply because rotation would ruin the layout. Or, lock it to portrait, whichever you prefer. Locking the homescreen(s) doesn't affect apps. So, I can lock the homesreen to landscape, open my e-reader app and rotate to portrait, no issues.
But, if it wasn't a good layout for you, then these suggestions mean nothing. I'm still gonna give it a try - as soon as I find the time this weekend.
Give it a shot, you might like it, but it just wasn't for me personally. I felt like I'd be serving the tablet more by tweaking it for hours and hours rather than it serving me. I don't know, just didn't click with me.
Hope yours turns out better
As you can tell from the earlier post, I had to play around with the things to figure it out (Simple Text specifically). But after I had it all figured out, it probably took 45 mins top to get it setup. I like it locked in landscape, so I'm good to go that way. And with a nandroid backup, I don't have to worry about redoing this, I can just restore it.
Now, I have to do my wife's N7 as she loves what I've done. Note to self: never show the wife my cool ideas, as she'll want them too.
