... I have flashed a few roms that use ADW as the default home. I have seen a few screen shots that show a shortcut bar that contains 4 shorcuts instead of 2. How can I do that? I have tried everything I can think of the adw settings and cant figure it out. Thank you in advance.
There is a launcherpro option that makes it looks like that I tihnk it's called froyo wide dock background. u gotta use launcherpro tho
Well, more precisely, you first need to enable LAB/RAB, and I think also the Secondary Action Buttons. Then, you'll be able to simply drag an app shortcut to those locations.

I know... I know... but why?!
Why not?! For the time being, I'm barely using 4, so why the extra 3?! Any way to get it down to 5 for now?! Until more is needed?!
Try LauncherPro
Umm just curious but just don't go to the last left or right screen. The home button can take you back to the middle and you are good to go?
Launcher Pro is an alternative but perhaps you like Sense...well..Refer to first suggestion.

Obviously I know I can avoid the last 2 screens, but I was wondering if it was possible in order to avoid going to that screen by accident. It would also make it easier to select the proper screen when pinched out.
How different is Launcher Pro?! The only reason I like Sense is due to the widgets they have. Will the same ones work with Launcher Pro?!
Just switch to LauncherPro.

I totally hear you. If widgets weren't starting to get so big I think I would be pretty happy with 3.
No, Sense widgets will not work with LauncherPro (or any other launcher) but there are some good market replacements. Also LauncherPro is moving towards having it's own set of widgets that replace most of the functionality of sense, which I think is a great idea.
It is probably possible that someone could open up the Rosie (Sense Launcher) apk and edit a line somewhere to tell it to only have 5 screens, but I haven't ever seen anyone do it. It would only be usable on a rooted phone too, since Rosie is in the Nand, and you can't change it out without root.
ADW.Launcher. how many desktops would you like today? 1 or 7? with adw it's your easy to make choice. along with many many other swell customizations.
i have reduced my total number of desktops as well. i use SmartShortcuts to condense my more commonly used apps and place those icons on the adw bars.
it will have the same issue with widgets. if a widget has been written specifically for Sense it won't work. however, there are many nifty cool things in the marketplace.
for example you you can use:
SmoothCalendar - a calandar widget (there are many on the marketplace depending on style preference)
Beautiful Widgets - many folks love this product. (not a free product)
DigitalClock Widget - what i use to get time/date on my screen.
SmartShortcuts - allows me to keep a very clean main desktop...the 4 visible icons pull up custom application groups. (see chess screenshot)
i would also suggest trying out:
QuickDeskBETA - see screenshot with all the icons? that is QD, it will popup over top of any existing window simply w/ a long press of the search button. so i can turn on my screenshot tool without going all the way back to main screens or turn on 4G without having to exit the browser.
one last thing, i would suggest that you install either launcherpro or adw and play with em. what will happen the first time is this. when you click on the home button it will ask you which launcher you wish to use (Sense, adw or launcherpro). there is a check box that says 'make this choice default' ... check that button when you feel semi confident as to which launcher you wish to use. 2 days later when you decide that you want to try using Helix2 (or whatever) simply go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> go to the current default laucher and "clear defaults" (see the adw screenshot)
I am looking for two things that I am not sure if they exist or not:
1. Is there any tool/hack/app/magic that will switch to a different wallpaper depending on which home screen you are on at the time?
2. Additionally, I don't see a way to create shortcuts on the home screen that will allow me to launch the app drawer, or to "jump" to a specific home screen.
Does anyone have any ideas if these are possible or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks!
If you're using the (stock) Sense launcher, I don't know of any way to customize the wallpaper on a per (home)screen basis. Not sure if any third-party launcher does. I do know that Launcher Pro lets you disable the wallpaper scrolling.
The little triangle on the bottom left of the curved bar (next to the "Phone" button) opens the app drawer.
The stock launcher, besides allowing you to use the HTC widgets, offers practically no customization.
I've been using Launcher Pro for the last week, and have been very happy with it (disclaimer: if you've updated Qik, your default launcher setting frequently goes into the bit bucket (at least with the updates before the latest, which I have not tried). ADW Launcher is also very good, but I was getting intermittent force closes with it.
HTH,

#2 I don't know if you knew this put if you 'squeeze' the screen it shows an overview of the screens.

Ah, yes. Forgot about that one...
Launcher Pro also does that, and you can also do a double-tap of the home button in Sense, for the same function.
ADW will let you assign that function to an up or down swipe on the screen, along with (or) some other choices.
Cheers,
-Jerry
adw allows you to assign a 'swipe up' and 'swipe down' command. i use them to access my preview screen (ie: see all desktops) and to show/hide notification bar.
great tool. lots of fun options to muss with.
regarding your questions
1) i dont think so. i think of it was one wallpaper covering 5 workspaces. not 5 different desktops.
2) try adw
I've seen this in screenshots and mentioned in forum posts but I can't find a theme or setting that enables it.
How do I get the reflections under the dock icons in ADW.Launcher?
Found the answer here:

Thanks EindhovenOne!
I am not able to make it work, I'm running 1.1.3 version.
Lento...try updating to the latest version, and make sure you have the settings from the screenshot as they appear. The hardest part is getting the swipe motion on the app dock icon exactly right, it is very touchy to be honest. Post back if you can't get it after a few tries and we'll go from there.

I have the latest installed 1.1.3, where can I find the screenshot with the settings? I'm not able to see it.
Edit1: found it, weird can't see the screenshots from my computer, but I actually was able to look at them from my phone.
Edit2: Not able to see from the pictures, which options you have check.
Edit: got it working, thanks
Hello I'm new at the forum I've notice the post about the icons reflection in the dock bar. I have the latest version of AWD Launcher EX but this feature is not present or at least I can not find it. Can someone point me in the right direction or I just doing something wrong. Thank you in advance
To customize the Dock bar in ADW Ex: Menu, ADW Settings, UI Settings, Main Dock, Dock Background, Custom
Then select wherever you saved the new dock you want to use.
To add icons to the dock bar (if you were asking about that too), I would just add the app to your desktop, long-click it, click on the existing icon and replace it. Then drag the new app icon to your dock bar.
EDIT:
I just reread your question: if you're just looking for the "hidden" dockbar, I think the default setting is to do a short swipe up on the main dockbar. That should expose the hidden one. Setting for this hidden dockbar are located in the same general area as the steps I listed a few lines up (just called Hidden Dockbar).
Thanks
That works really great...so hidden dock bar is the one that reflect the icons...COOL!. I think they should implement the same function for the standard dock. Plus if they add the folder manager in the app drawer like the one in GO Launcher Ex and the option to replace the apps icons like other far more simple Launchers on the market, AWDLauncher will be the best launcher without any question. I think that the developers should think about those options.
I'm on CM7 and figured out if I close the dock bar on the bottom I can still pin icons down there and it has a cool reflective effect. When I reboot I have to close the dockbar everytime. How can I make the settings stay?
I'm using the shortcut from longpressing homescreen- launcher actions- open close dockbar and keeping it on my homescreen.
Gone through adwsettings still nothing.

Good question...I was wondering the same.
And does anyone know whether CM7 has ADW or ADW Ex and can I install ADW Ex without causing problems?
@TonyArmstrong
Cm7 does not use ex, but you can install ex and use it if you like. Well, I can so you SHOULD be able to anyway

The second dockbar is considered the "hidden dockbar", and is hidden by default whenever ADW launches. I'm pretty sure there's no way to use it over the main dock, you have to "close" the main one.
I use both. You can also close the dock by swiping up on the middle icon (app drawer by default). I've actually got rid of my app drawer icon altogether. With gestures on the homescreens, swipe up opens app drawer, swipe down open/closes the dock. You can set your gestures to do whatever.

Yes you can install ADW EX without any problems, it's well worth it. I use EX and it is way faster and smoother. Just be sure to uninstall the regular ADW launcher AFTER you install ADW EX so you can save memory.
Thank you for the input. I do prefer the hidden dock. Too bad there is no way to make it default. oh well still cool as hell. You can get lost in those adw settings...
Wow I wasn't aware you could put other apps in there ... hah, thanks! Looks cool, indeed unfortunate can't make it default.

are u on ADW ex? theres kind of a way to do it not exactly sure what your settings are but in ADW ex settings/ui settings/main dock/main dock style/none(expanded desktop) you wont have a launcher. then enable hidden dockbar.
someone else also mentioned you can swipe gesture appear or disappear hidden dock. i have mine swype up to do that but u can command whichever u like.
adw settings/general behavior/gestures...then choose your actions.
-hope that helps! adw ex is cool..
Hmm I'm not using ex and I can set it to none (expanded desktop) however I don't see an option for hidden dock
Thank you though I will give ex a try out.
Will I still be able to use adw settings from menu->settings-> adw settings?

Instead of menu > settings > ADW settings you will have menu > settings and menu > ADW settings separately. You can rearrange the order of the menu in ADW Ex by going to ADW settings > general behavior > system preferences > customize menu. This will put whatever you put at the end under "more".
I also don't think you can choose "none" for the main dock but keep the hidden one. I'll try & let you know if I can.
EDIT: You can choose none for the main dock bit still use the hidden dockbar. However, I think that when it launches (ie after a reboot) the dock will be hidden by default. Unless you just don't like the main dock, you might as well keep it. This is probably something only available in Ex. Another cool Ex only feature is that you can change the background for both docks separately. I love ADW Ex

I'm still using adw free that comes with cyanogenmod7..so nope
Edit: yes I see hiddendock settings.. only 3 options gonna play around with it.. but at work now. Thanks I'm blind apparently
Edit: seems to just make the original dock transparent.. cool but the reflection is gone then.. oh well
I convinced my dad to get a waterproof smartphone for the free wifi calling.
Its his first smartphone and he wants me to lock down the phone so he doesnt mess anything up. Hes quite talented that way.
This thread says some of the roms dont have tmobile uma wifi calling
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931972&page=3
I dont have the post count for that forum.
In new to android and dont know which rom to use? Motorblur has to go lol.
Phone has a red lens.
He doesnt have a data plan only wifi. He will mostly use wifi for calling but might read email and check weather once in a while but wont be surfing the web or playing games or anything.
If i could i would like a launcher with a single home screen with only about 10 apps and they would be locked from moving. There would be a largish call dock icon on the bottom and a clock widget near the top. The notification bar would have the date and a longer battery icon.
While on the home screen, the menu button would turn a flashlight on and off and the search button would launch the music player. Hitting the home button five times and entering a password would bring up the list of all the installed apps so i could go to the settings or market etc to change things.
The notification bar woud have slightly bigger icon and when swiped down would also show wifi and bluetooth controls like on my moms samsung galaxy. Also liker hers the lock screen would change to the puzzle piece swipe when theres a new message.
Get a custom launcher like Go Launcher EX and hide all the apps you dont want to use from the launcher
Stuff like browser I is a bad idea to remove, just hide the icon to launch it.
For WiFi intensive, I'd suggest going with a stock Blurless Froyo, since CM7 could have some issues when using WiFi.
Adw ex has an option to lock the homescreen so nothing moves. You can set it to be one page and lock it.

adw launcher works pretty good! I was able to remove all but the one main desktop screen and then lock it. Had to set desktop overshoot to 0 to stop screen from bouncing when flicked.
Where would i ask for the following requests.
-Wider dock bar icons. having 3 or 5 dialer icons on the dock looks crappy lol.
-taller dock bar icon.
-menu button turns a flashlight app on and off
-search button launches a music player app
-home button works normally and goes home, if pressed 30 times in a row then brings up menu for me to get to settings/wallpaper/unlock/app drawer.
I am not sure on ADW EX but Go Launcher EX have the option of changing the dock background. Just use a picture with just 2 or 3 icons as back ground and use transparent icons. I set this way to mimic original DEFY launcher home with just Phone and Contacts in the dock bar. Attached the files here. Got it from here only but forgot the original post.
*** Note sure if I have explained it properly here
Try Launcher 7. You can lock the screen so icons can't be moved, and hide the rest from the app list. MIUI it's simple and easy to use, was great for my wife to learn Android, CM7 can get kind of confusing for some people.
Swyped from my MIUI 1.9.23 Defy
Angelus47 I dont like launcher 7 cant put enough icons/tiles on one screen.
Does MIUI have tmobile wifi calling app?
pprakash Is it better to have button image on the dock background and transparent icons over or is it better to cut the button image across several icon sized wide pieces.
In adw launcher the dock background is set by the theme. Im not sure how to create a theme. On the other hand if i didnt scale the split icons pieces to the right size there would be gaps between them I think.
Right now i have one visual voicemail on the left, one messaging on the right and three dialers in the middle.
perhaps i could find where the images for themes are stored and replace the dock backround image for the default theme.

With Go Launcher EX I find having the single image as background provided slightly bigger images rather than using individual icons. But I have attached individual icons as well here hopefully it helps you ..
