Getting very pissed off at this.. been able to connect to my home wifi and others before.. but for some dumb reason i can't get any good connection from my router that sits three feet away from my device.. everytime it just gets to the "obtaining ip address from " then disconects and tries again.. never getting past to connect.. i currently have reset my router to basic settings and left the network open... i'm running in "g" mode.. channel 6... even with the network running open it still does not connect.. i need help bad..
Droid Incredible 2.2 froyo - Skyraider 3 sense rc2
BaseBand v: 2.15.00.07.28
Kernal v: 2.6.32.15-king#2
Router: Linksys - wrt54g v5 - Firmware: Up to date.
ISP: Comcast xFinity
Thanks for any help..
ok so i changed out the kernal.. went back to using the stock skyraider kernal that i had before i changed to king.. now my wifi is completly broke.. phone does not have mac address anymore.. also want to downgrade my radio back one version.. i noticed my whole wifi connecting issue after going to radio 2.15 or the version before it.. i have been googling around and cannot fin the radio i want, 2.07, or 2.05.. but the fact i lost my mac address form reflashing the kernal blows... anyone know a good way to reinput the mac? or a new flash should fix?
MAC addresses are burned into the hardware so I do not think you lost yours. Try running the code below with the phone booted or in recovery and then flashing another kernel. King's kernels come with a lot of extra modules and they may be causing issues when you flash other kernels and they are left behind. This code will clean them up. This is just a thought. It may help you.
NOTICE: this will render your wifi/hotspot completely useless until you flash another kernel. Also be careful you type in the commands verbatim
While Booted:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
rm -R /system/lib/modules
In Recovery:
Code:
adb shell
mount /system
rm -R /system/lib/modules
had the same problem and i am running the exact same set up. I fixed the problem by reading the xda forum for that rom and he clearly states that you have to uninstall the wireless tether from market and get the lastest versions. the market is not the lastest version. Go to the thread and he has the link posted to the updated wireless tether.
thanks for the feedback guys.. @ihtfp69: i tried reflashing back to the second stock kernal in the kernal list of rom manager.. can't remember the name.. its weird when i goto the advanced options of wifi settings.. it say's "Unknown"..
i'd screen cap it but i am in the process of just restoring the original rom from factory..
@jager420: its really nothing to do with wifi tether is it? i'm trying to access my router to my phone, not wifi tether to the router via repeater...
Thanks again for the help and especially ihtfp for the adb coding..
drocaps.. this is after wiping then doing a nandroid restore of the phone after deboxing and applying root.. the radio never went back.. going to try downgrading the radio.. then try the adb codes as a last shot.. haven't got adb to work correctly in the past.. i keep forgeting to mention that, at first before i lost my MAC, i would get that issue i metion first.. then after i lost the mac, everytime i tried to turn wifi on it would just say "error".. haha..
--
ok so i went back to stock radio and got my MAC address back.. does bluetooth have a MAC address? can't remember.. under blue tooth it says unavailable..
haha nevermind, had to activate it before it showed up.. so my MAC issues are resoved.. now i just need to get it to connect to the damn router so i can get faster speed on my phone when home..
--
ok so from what i could figure.. i went to set the router to broadcast on the 11th channel.. using 2.462GHz.. has no problem connecting.. its running in g-mode also.. i found that when i set the router to defualt channel settings it couldn't pickup an ip.. channels 1-6 proved to be no luck.. thanks again for the help guys..
--
welp. i was connected good for awhile.. using wifi to install apps and stuff after my fresh install of skyraider 3 rc2.. i have wifi sleep at 15 minutes.. i seen wifi went off and back to 3g.. so i tried to reconnect wifi to see if it would work and nope. back to the same issue as before.. stuck at connecting then trying to obtain an ip from router. never gets past the obtain part, just disconects and trys again... looks like i'm back to square one.. could use some help before i go nuts... fixed the system info in op to show whats going on now..
I'm also having the same issue where i cannot connect to my wireless router. Are there any other possible solutions? It's strange because the phone will connect to a neighbors open wireless network but will not connect to mine. It just keeps cycling through and cannot obtain an ip address. Thanks in advance.

what router do you have? make? model?
This thread has been dead for a while, but it's the only one that describes my problem.
I am using the latest Skyraider Athena right now and whichever kernel it comes packaged with.
Until yesterday, I was able to connect to my home wifi network without any problems.
Last night I noticed that it would try to obtain an IP, but fail and try again... over and over again.
I took my phone to work and it connects to my work network fine. It also works on my fiancee's network.
WHAT HAPPENED?
I reset my router and it didn't help. I really need wifi access in my house since I'm in the basement most of the time and I don't get cell signal.
Any ideas? I've thought of renaming my network and changing the password. That's a huge PITA considering the number of devices I would then have to change the settings in.
Please, someone have an answer.

I'm actually having the same exact problem. I'm able to connect to other routers in my building that are open, but for some reason I can not connect to my home router. I'm using a D-Link DL 624 router.
I'm at a loss as to what to do.
also have the same problem here...
device = motorola atrix
when i turn on wifi, it detects my home network and keeps trying to obtain ip address
then it scans agains because it can't connect and tries to obtain the ip again
after trying for a minute or 2, the home ssid becomes:
"disabled, secured with..."
please help
Bump...
This problem is really getting annoying because I can't connect to wifi at home...
Any ideas?

This may seem a little too simple.. but I remember my dad having a similar problem with his EVO. All I had to do is "Forget" the network, reconnect to it, and re-enter the WiFi password. Is it possible you changed the security on your router? Your phone is probably trying to connect with the old password you had before if that's the case.
Good Luck,
xirftwx
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that dindt solve it. It is now connecting to wifi 50% of the time and the other 50% keeps trying to obtain ip

Sounds like an issue with a mismatched Kernal for the ROM your using or just a bug on the ROMs build. Had the same issue with MIUI roms when I first tried flashing kernels. Mine would scan, obtain & connect, and then drop and scan for other connections. What setup are you running?
I am on stock atrix but rooted. Haven't flash anything yet cause I am still learning this rom buisness... could I be having a kernel problem?

Hi!
I modded CM7.1 on U8500 (based on slax's sp3 rom)...
I imported 2.6.29 icarus chaos kernel into it, everythings fine, except on wifi connect had the "obtaining ip address" issue...(it works with static ip) What can i do now? I try everything...modules, permission...
Any idea?
Thx for ur help,

Same problem here with all my android devices....
HTC EVO stock (2.2) did the same thing with rooted 2.1 (unrevoked)
HTC EVO 3D stock (2.3.3)
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 stock (3.1)
Happens on my home wireless router as well as work. Sometimes, just sometimes I'll be lucky and it'll connect after multiple tries or reboots of my home router (cant touch the work one).
This has got to be an android issue...right?
guys i wish i could remember what exactly i did to fix it... i haven't had the issue since..
try checking the wifi type? as far as i know, type n is not going to work. i could be wrong.. try b or whatever else floats your boat.. also, it could be the kernal.. i have been using my incredible with cynogen mod 7 and with no problems on the standard kernal.

So I have done the official 2.2 upgrade but now my wifi isn't working. I have gone into software updates and updated the profile, prl, and checked for new software and firmware.
Wifi keeps saying "obtaining ip address". It's my home wifi and before the update it was working flawlessly.
Appreciate the help.
Do I have this posted in the wrong section, or has this question been answered? I've searched high and low.
Try reflashing newest radio and wimax. Flash one at a time. This has happen to me before with wifi and 4g but on 1. 47. If that does not work flash calklins v1. 02 rom. I am using that on wifi typing thos response. Good luck

from the sound of it he flashed the official OTA so probably isnt rooted.
Have you tried it with any other routers to see if it connects?
try unplugging yor router and re plugging it back in to reset it and try connecting if that doesnt work sounds like your radio is messed up and you may have to take ti to a sprint store so they can reflash it if you arent rooted.

I am using the router for my laptop right now so I dont think the router is the problem.
I had the unofficial .3 update which is when my wifi stopped working, then I upgraded with the fix to .6 last night, still no wifi. I am not root, just bone stock .6 froyo...
Take it to sprint service center. Or delete the wifi settings in the phone and reconnect.

The reason i suggest resetting the router is because they often store information about a MAC address, When the information changes sometimes routers have connection issues. you dont see it a lot and since most of the time the information doesnt change (you dont update much on your pcs that would cause this). When it does change (ie a radio from a phone) it can sometimes cause issues. that's why i suggested you restart the router. I have had it happen several times when changing radios on my phones over the years.
Just because 1 thing connects to a router does not mean it cant contribute to another thing not connecting to it. I also wouldnt bet my life that it would fix it or anything.i was just giving a suggestion that HAS worked for me in the past when similar issues happened.IT was a good place to start. It would also help verify the problem is in deed with the phone from an actual tech point stand instead of an assumption.
anyway best of luck with getting this fixed

it is definatly the phone then. It sounds like thw Wimax radio didnt flash right. With out Root i think your best bet is to drop by a sprint store they should be able to reflash it for you.
@chris17house
I have the same issue on my EVO that is still on 1.47.
The first time I connected my router gives my phone a lease for a ip address (lets say 192.168.0.010) and associates it with the mac address of my phone.
When I try to reconnect at a later time, the lease for my phone on the router has not expired, but the router gives my phone a new ip address (let say 192.168.0.020), which causes a conflict with the same mac address, but two different ip address. Once I reset my router and my phone the problem is fixed, because the router releases the lease and my phone does a dns flush.
Do you think flashing the wimax or radio instead of reflashing the entire rom would be worth a try? And if so, where is that file located please.
Ok, so wifi connects everywhere except my home. I have unplugged the router and modem for an hour and reconnected them. I still am unable to connect to my home wifi. Is there something more i need to be doing?
I was having the same problem with work and home, but all I did was forget both locatations and discover them again.

Thats not the problem.
Odin a refurbished phone to ReRFS Format Stock ROM EC05.
The wifi will connect to my router but I get no data.
Sprint says to return the phone.
Could it be that I didn't consider if I was coming from DI18 or EB13 or if it was even EC05.
Maybe the modem just needs to be updated.
I really need advice, because I do NOT want to send the phone back unless the hardware is truly defective. What should I do?

Odin the DI18 stock, it will immediately start downloading the EC05 OTA. WHile it is downloading check your wifi in DI18. If it works there, then install the EC05 when it is done and check it again. If it don't work in DI18 it probably won't in EC05 and may be defective. Check it with a public wifi like McDonald's to make sure it is not an IP address conflict or something.
Okay...
Okay. Just did that.
Same problem.
3g is busy downloading what I presume is the ota update.
I did go to a sprint sales point (in the mall... not a full blown sprint store) where I was able to connect to wifi and get data.
I do connect to my isp with a static ip configuration.
Is this my problem? If so, how do I fix it?

Uncheck the static ip box and rescan. Reboot your modem and router and the phone should connect. If you need to use a static IP also put in the DNS server address. You should be able to get that info by running ipconfig on your computer in a command prompt box.

Sprint said to send it back to Asurion.
Asurion sent replacement.
Exact same issue.
Epic will hand shake with the router and establish a connection, but it wont give me any data.
Sprint says there's been a nationwide outage for the Airrave 2 which explains why that isn't connecting.
2 phones, exact same issue??? Something smells fishy.
All devices connected to the router work fine except the Epic.
How can I trouble shoot this?

Did you run IPconfig and get the necessary data to manually enter in your phone? Is there some security settings in your router preventing you from getting on the net such as guest settings? Do you have the correct security type set such as WEP or WPA? Is the password correct. Have you powered down your router and modem before trying to connect with the phone?
I was only able to connect by powering down the modem and router, then after it came back up my phone would connect but not after a few days so I manually entered the settings in my phone and never have a problem. DNS server settings are important. You should be able to use most IP settings from 192.168.100.1XX.
If all else fails try contacting the customer servce for your router.
I guess while we are on the wifi connection stuff.. i got a question..
Ok here is my dilema almost everyday when i get off work my router will not connect to my epic it registers it and just hangs on obtaining ip address and just hangs forever.
However if i reboot the modem and router it connects instantly and works fine..
ive tried starting from scratch on setting up my router and still is an issue.
this issue also occurs using my wifi on my xbox as well as my ipod touch?
but for some reason it connects to my computers just fine??
Any thoughts, one thing i saw for a suggestion was update the router firmware which i havent had a chance to do yet..
anything i can do to fix this so i dont have to unplug and plug back in my modem and router almost everyday?
thanks

Did I run IPconfig? No, I'm a mac guy. But I did see the ip addresss inside my router, under the mac address filtering and a quick look at connected devices. I put that in as its static ip. I also consulted my router for all the other information except netmask. I've tried it with the subnet mask listed in the router and the phone scans, connects and super quickly I see something about an ip address, then it disconnects. So I just leave out the netmask and I'm able to connect, but still no data.
As I said, I'm able to handshake with the router. I connect by manually going to the ssid which is not being broadcast. I enter the correct password and establish a connection. But the browser on the phone says unable to display page.
The DNS are directly from Comcast and work in my router.
I spent about two hours yesterday talking with Linksys and they trouble shot everything and told me the problem was with the phone. They said I have multiple devices connected to the router and everything works fine. The problem is in the phone.
Any thoughts, one thing i saw for a suggestion was update the router firmware which i havent had a chance to do yet..

True. If the router says its connected but not sending data it sounds like the router not the phone. My crappy router does that a lot. I apologize for jumping to conclusions before thinking lol.

If you have the stock kernel, wifi is disabled by default, though I thought most if the custom roms were hex edited to work.. Perhaps refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158629
If that doesn't work try just wpa.and not else, also check if you are using aes or tkip encryption, I remember reading somewhere that it might make a difference which one you pick, but can't remember now... Hope this helps
I just flashed lithid cm's FREEDOM for the synergy-kingdom nightlies v 0.7.6?
Hopefully this works if not i'll try your suggestion of flashing the wireless N fix, the kernel says it supports wireless N so you might be right it might have something to do with the type of encryption the router has for the actual connection, thing is my POS verizon router will not let me switch to regular WPA or WEP for the wireless N connection
Hi,
After upgrading to CM7 i was not able to connect to my Wi-Fi Network.after going through some threads i found that some people do face the problem so i again upgraded to WajkIUI 1.7.15 But sadly i am still not able to connect to my home network even after removing all security from the network it just shows network remembered and on pressing on connect is just shows scanning ... can any 1 help please.

This may sound like a no brainer but if you haven't already, reboot your router and see if it helps. Or perhaps switch to either B, G, or N rather than running your router in mixed mode. Seems like most peoples WiFi problems with cm7 are router related

Do you have a Titanium Backup of your system?
If so, reload your wifi configuration. I had problems with wifi too not finding any networks, and restoring it fixed things.
Compass.
even i had same problem but this method fix my problem .... here is the solution ...
The problem is that the defy is getting an IP address from your router and holding on to it. If a new device comes onto the network it will try to reassign you an IP but the defy will not allow, still wanting the old IP address.
The Fix is to create a static IP address. Go into settings .....wireles nd network ...wifi settings.....click menu and then advanced and click use static IP address....now look up your dns server, gateway and netmask and set the corresponding fields in your defy settings.
I hope this helps becuase I was banigng my head over the table for 3 days trying to fix this.
Oh and u have to turn static off when you use your wifi at another location....
Hi, everyone, I have a DINC2 running CM7 and I have never had problems with my home Wi-Fi before and just today I accidently 'forgot' my home Wi-Fi and I tried to reconnect but it just says "Stuck on IP Address" and then disconnects. I reset the router many times and even tweaked a couple settings but nothing seems to work. I also used the Static IP but my phone just says "Connected" and when I go in the browser, my page doesn't load. Please help! Haven't rooted my Dinc2 yet, but I came from a rooted Eris running GSB based on CM7.1. And I although GSB's wifi worked Ok, my experience was that CM7 never connected as quickly or reliably as the OEM Sense did on the Eris... it become something I lived with, often having to manually go into the wifi settings dialog to get things to connect. When I got my Dinc2 last week I was surprised, and pleased to remember, how quickly its OEM Sense 2.1 grabs onto the wifi.
But just as a check, can you nand backup your current CM7 install and then nand restore a previously-good installation to make sure it's not either the phone or router?
Before doing anything drastic, try pulling the battery on your phone, let it sit for a few minutes and restart.. I've had this problem before and this fixed it

I had a similiar issue. It worked one day. Next it just stopped. Reflashed my kernel and it worked again
