[Q] Case material preference - Vibrant Accessories

Hello fellow XDAers! I've had my Vibrant for almost 2 weeks so I figured its about time I get a case to protect my phone. Question is there are a lot of choices out there so I wanted to poll y'all and see what material you prefer your cases to be made of and why. What differences would make you prefer A over B?
To my knowledge the main ones I see are; plastic, rubber, polycarbonate, silicon, and TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane).
And yes, I've already looked through google and wiki but nothing beats user feedback! Thanks all!

Most seem to like TPU.

indeed. tpu is the ****. under four dollars shipped on ebay for a smoked grey tpu case with a neat hexagonal pattern on the back?
you cant beat that!
if i could get one of those "silk touch" silicone cases for cheap i might change my mind, but they're pretty expensive and i'm not willing to buy something like that without seeing and feeling it first.

Zenus Cases

Hey all,
So when I first got the Vibrant I was a little ticked off how poorly companies had taken into account Samsung and there for left us limited to crappy Tmo cases. Anyway, that's why I love globalization and the internet. I bought a Zenus case which came with two amazing screen protectors. The only problem is that they are for the actual Galaxy S not our variant. Anyway, here are some small pics of the case I'll put up more later off the actual device, and the screen protectors.

Looks nice. I have been considering getting a leather style case like that.
I got that exact same one. Love it! We will see how it holds up though.

I do love it. It's comfy and sturdy. Its no otter box but still a great case. I like that it makes the phone a little heavier, which is the only thing I don't like about the Vibrant. The light weight plastic makes it feel kind low quality cheap to me.

I agree it can be slightly chubby in the pocket, but I think the thinness of this phone has spoiled me.

Similiar case As Skech for Iphone 3GS

Hi everyone,
I saw a case for the Iphone 3gs called skech.
It is very smooth and beautiful and i'm looking for somthing similiar for the Vibrant.
On their site: skechit, they have several products and they are all made of polycarbonate. I'm not sure which one I saw
Anyone has any suggestions for cases from that material?
Does every case that is made from that material will have the same feel?
thanks alot!
I got a TPU case from daydeal.com. It completely encases the phone. Its like hard rubber, but its smooth enough to get in and out of my pocket. You might like it

The Sketch is just a 2pc slide-on case. There are some available for the Vibrant, but I haven't searched for them recently.

Galaxy nexus multiple cases

I generally like to have multiple cases for my phones. I have bought a couple of cases already without having the phone and would like to know which one you guys think is the best. These are the cases I have bought:

I havent heard many good things about the popcase that it may not provide enough protection. It looks cool though. I have the toughcase but its a dust magnet for starters and the silicone also gets in the way of my screen protector (zagg) at the corners. I have a diztronic tpu case and i like the fit of it better and its thin enough to not be too noticeable. So far i like it best but im still waiting for something better....like otterbox?
Yes, I can not wait for the otterbox. I also found a case for other phones called Sillicrylic (I think thats how you spell it) and that looks like an awesome case!
i think nude is better!
Hi, before I get my SGN i had a Desire HD with PoP case !
And I was very satisfied with it
Thank you, I just noticed that one of the ebay links is actually 7 cases, which is awesome so I can switch it out. I will let you guys know which one is best when I get them.

I have this one, and for £1.89 I think it is pretty fantastic. Looks and feels great!
Nay to all of the above
Why hide the Google design. If you look at the use of the phone, the corners are the most hit, so a bumper design is the best. the cases in this post like others I've found are thick and bulky for no real benefit.
iPhone is the best example of what we need.
"Can't paste the link as I'm too new but refer to Ebay "iPhone 4S bumper"
We need to push this design before making out pockets bulk up...
GNex Bumper case DIY
I made a simple DIY mod to turn a cheap case into a Bumper case.
Search instructibles.com for 'DIY Bumper Case for Galaxy Nexus' and it will come up.
I would like to keep my phone without a case but the fear of dropping or body wear would get under my skin.
I have a diztronic currently and I'm also ordering some cruzerlite cases.

I have a case obsession as well and have many for the Gnex. My latest is the otterbox commuter, which I really love - though its noteworthy that many people do not like this case. A good one as well is the Trident Agesis - I am waiting for this one to be release at the end of Feb.

Acase Superleggera Pro case review

So like many others who have been waiting for their GS3 to be delivered to their front door steps here in the USA, I've been buying cases so I'd be ready to go from the start. My plan is buy a variety of cheap cases and bumpers to see how they feel in my wee bitty hands. So here is my review of a case worth reviewing. I haven't seen anyone mention this case so I apologize if I'm duplicating something that's already been said.
I picked up this case on Amazon for a little over $12 after shipping costs. It appeared to be marked down from $30 without shipping so I figured It was a steal. So far, I was right. It's size is very slim for a duel layer case. While it does make the phone bigger, it's not too big for my girl hands. It actually makes the phone feel a little better and comfortable in the hand.
The texture of both layers have a nice grip and feel. The matte black hard shell has a soft feel that blends well with the feel of the silicone core.
So far the hardshell has been smudge resistant and I have a good feeling scratch resistant but only time and use will tell on that part. The silicone core appear to be lint resistant, if that's even possible, compared to my Seidio Active case on my Rezound (great case by the way) that collected light to moderate pocket lint.
The case also provides a nice lip around the screen to protect it. The best part of the lip is that it doesn't get in the way of using the phone. It occupies just the right amount of real estate.
Buttons work like the real buttons. No issues with them working properly or having to apply extra pressure.
Summary: I love this case. It's solid, feels great, and was purchased at a great price.

It's actually a $40 case that I got for $12 (price went up already on the black to $12 + s/h) .......I can handle the tiny logo, and if not, I'll get out a black marker.
They have some other colors that are cheaper than the black now. Thinking about picking up a blue one.

Anyone else using this case?
I want to know other users opinion about this case compared to the following cases:
1. Otterbox commuter
2. Incipio Silicrylic
3. Casemate Tough case
Ha! The thread lives! I can't believe more people aren't using this case or at least interested in the case. It's great and almost tripled in price since I first got it. Still cheap enough to equal a valuable purchase.

I checked this on Amazon. All the ratings are either 4 star or 5 star. And there are 44 of them.
Does this means it is the best case for S3 or are they asking the buyers to give good ratings(I have heard some companies do so) ?

Few questions?
How is the back of the hard shell? is it very smooth so that it may slip away from your hand or table?
Also do you know whether it is of the same size and weight of Case mate Tough case?
I had one for my 3d, very nice case. The only reason I got rid of it was the need for a belt holster, but other than that it protected the phone very well and the rubber material did not stretch out or get flimsy.

It's smooth but I wouldn't say slippery. I've been very comfortable holding it without fear of dropping it.
I'm not familiar with the Casemate Tough but I do like it better than my Casemate Pop. The Pop! Case is very slick other than the grips on the side and it feels wider then the Acase.

Do you use a screen protector with your case? A lot of screen protectors that go all the way to the edge of the screen are having problems with a lot of cases. I am using a Zagg HD, and I wanted to know if this case would cause it to bubble up.
Just wanted to add my two cents. Got the case very fast from Amazon. Was worried it wouldn't come but then it was delivered even before my shipping confirmation.
Anyways on to the case. Very good feel too it, not as bulky as i was expecting but still feels secure. Been using it regularly since i got it. Fits well in the pocket and doesn't attract too much lint so far. For the price, highly recommend it

Hey I have the case and yeah you would have to use a screen protector that doesnt go to the edges I had a regular screen protector and the bottom would bubble up because of the case.
I bought this case when it was $6.05 on Amazon and I would pay the current price for it because it is worth it. This is a really good case. I just wish they had made it a holster case.
got my black one this morning and I have to say that it feels great in the hand and fits perfectly.
I previously had the trident aegis and Neo hybrid but hated both of them. this is so much better and half the price. I have the seidio active too which is great to watch things using the kickstand but as an everyday case this blitzes it!
thanks for answering my questions about this in another thread.

you know..this was not a bad case.. I was thinking I was getting a crappy case, that was not going to do anything and was gonna have low quality.

Nice review, but I think you bashed the grippiness a bit much. My grey/grey Incipio is grippier than both my Cruzerlite TPU and my rubberized Rock Quicksand polycarb.

That's a Tmobile exclusive color. You can find it in most retail stores.
lol Incipio has made a lot of money off of this case. so many discussions about it just in the US S3 section.
Nice review think I'm going to try one of these cases.

I might try and pick up one of these as well. I like the Tmobile blue better than the Verizon blue that I have seen, but I get a 25% discount on Verizon accessories so I might just go with the Verizon one.

someone already has. they're called Case-Mate. i had the pleasure of holding their Tough Case in store at an authorized att retailer. i had one on my SGS2 international but was worried about it being thicker for the SGS3. well, glad i saw one in person because i would've missed out. hands down better than the Incipio with not only the feel of the case in hand but it's also a tad thinner than the Incipio. as soon as i got back to my computer i ordered one. can't wait to get it.

Thanks for the Case-Mate Tough recommendation, but I just checked out some reviews, and, IMO, it's got more downside than upside when compared to the Incipio:
Casemate Tough VS Incipio Silicrylic
Pros:
- Separate cutouts for flash/camera/speaker VS single cutout provides better protection
Cons:
- It's visibly bulkier-looking
- The casemate only comes in two colors: black/black and pink/black
- Much harder to put on and remove. Check out the video review below
- More expensive
- No screen protector included (if you care about that)
- The grippy silicone on the sides is completely covered by the outer shell (wtf?)

is this coming from this review or something?
Cons:
- It's visibly bulkier-looking - i can tell you the Incipio is actually a little thicker...
- The casemate only comes in two colors: black/black and pink/black - i just wanted a black personally...
- Much harder to put on and remove. Check out the video review below - again, i've had one on my SGS2. it's not hard but i could see some having trouble here. legit con i suppose
- More expensive - by about $4 if a coupon is used ($24 vs $28)
- No screen protector included (if you care about that) - already have one
- The grippy silicone on the sides is completely covered by the outer shell (wtf?) - the material that the Case Mate shell is made out of is actually a better grip than the little bit of rubber that you may touch on the Incipio.
coming from someone who has personally held both, the Tough Case is a better buy, if only for the reason that it's a little thinner. that Incipio is so bulky imo. when my gf saw it, that was the first thing she said.
No way the ibcipio is thicker than the case mate IMHO (or at least it doesn't feel like it) . I held both I used both and the incipio is thinner.. Which doesn't mean it's better. The tough is a great case but they are aimed to different markets

Hi, I just ordered the incipio case. I was wondering how exposed is the back with the single cut out? Will this decrease the level of protected ton drastically as compared to cases that have separate cut outs?
No not at all. The cutout nests the phone nicely.
