Hi, i wondered if someone here can help me with my htc desire, i purchased it like this by the way. When i insert the battery and power the device it goes straight into bootloader mode but im unable to select the options using the volume button, is there a way to exit this mode? or is it possible i can use the volume keys of the handsfree headset (i dont have) in case the phones volume buttons are faulty?
Here below is a pic ive taken:

Your input would be highly appreciated, thanks!
Have you removed battery and try booting up again?

hi, yes i have, as soon as i put the battery in and press power it automatically goes into bootloader mode without even holding the back key, which is puzzling..
Did you buy it from a shop? Take it back if so. Is there any movement in the volume buttons or ate they stuck down?

It could be that it has water damage and that is causing the volume down to be pressed by itself all the time..
i compared the volume buttons with a working desire and they feel exactly the same
Is this a new phone?
If so - return it.
This happened to my phone too, which was bought new. Looking around it does appear to be a hardware problem and needs to be sent back for repair/replacement.

Flashed a rom that went well. Only to find the Trackball and menu button now act as volume buttons. The volume buttons do the same as normal. Wiped everything but still the same. I know its not the Rom.
Anyone heard of this before and has a solution?
Help me please

At first you should say which rom you flashed..
It was the NeoPHYTE rom. But since I have tried cyanogen and modaco but no difference to the buttons. Quite annoying. Have tried the Bricked fix but made no difference either. Searched and found just one other instance which the user had not modified phone in any way.

I had that problem after i dropped my Desire in a glass of Tia Maria and coke. My trackpad started to die slowly. Menu button was messing with volume and the trackpad swipe would just make volume go down.
Eventually my trackpad died totally and all is normal now. Has your device come into contact with water AT ALL. Even slightly?
No not at all. Thought I would try a new Rom and all went well and that was it. Now in recovery I have to hold menu and push Trackball to select or it selects and straight away goes back as it does both commands. Selects and volume down at the same time. The menu button acts as home and volume up at the same time.

My Desire has just came contact with water yesterday.
I suppose everything is fine.
Just that my volume rocker(vol. down) is stuck.
So whenever I try to turn on my phone, it will bring me to the hboot.
I can't even use the volume rocker to get me to the recovery
Is there anyway that I can turn on my phone?
Thank you very much
Can't you move in hboot at all (vol up?)?
Have you tried vol down + power + trackball to reboot your phone? (This way you wouldn't start the phone with power and vol down, maybe that's enough to boot into the rom.)
However if you boot into rom a whole new set of nightmares would greet you. Phone always silent etc. (Yet you might be able to use button remapper to assign "nothing" to that button.)
If I were you I would pop out battery and put the phone in slightly elevated temperature (white some free air movement) and hope it would completely dry out. That would probably enough to fix the switch. How long did you let your phone dry after "weting" it?
Stick your phone in rice with the battery out for a few days, then boot into Fastboot (back & power), and run a RUU. You can find one for your network from shipped-roms.com. Just make sure you download a Froyo one not an Eclair one.
Hmm, I've tried the rice method it doesn't work
I've left it for around 12 hours
I disassembled the whole and sever the volume circuit already :X
However.. it still doesn't work
It still forces me into hboot
I can't seems to get to fast boot either
It would be fine If i can gain control in hboot, so I can boot into recovery and boot into system.
I only want to save all my messages before.. dumping the phone :x
If there any other ways?
Thank you for the help

U can use ButtonRemapper (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464) to assign volume functionality to other buttons. This only works within the booted rom, however.

Hmm.. do you have any idea of disabling the volume button?
I'm not sure, what happens if you edit volume down and set state to 'none' in remapper?
Or you can try editing
/system/usr/keylayout/bravo-keypad.kl
(needs root and system mounted as R/W)
and delete the characters after key 115 and key 114 (or maybe even delete both lines)
create a backup first (or if u use Root Explorer's Text editor it will create automatically create one before saving)
Oh, okay, thank you, once again, you have save my life!!
Tried the mapper, but phone keep restarting

Sorry for the trouble again :x
It seems that when I lock my phone, the phone will automatically wakes up
I don't think it is the power button, as when I'm using my phone, my phone doesn't auto lock itself...
It just auto wakes
Is there any app, there can find which button is faulty?

What rom are you using?
In BCM (CM9 source) there are two options in settings/display at the bottom in wakeup options section: volume rocker wake and trackball wake. If you have those, uncheck them.
Dont think so, using a sense rom

This would probably work if he didn't power the phone on - which he did. After that, damage has been done. In my liquid cooling my pc experience, if the short circuit happened, the game is over in 99% of the cases.

Seems like I have a problem with my power button.
It seems to be depressed all the time.
Can not turn off / lock the screen, nor unlock.
After I took the battery out and put it back in turn on the phone by itself.
If I go into the boot, I can not use the volume keys to change choices.
I restart in recovery so I can go up / down the menu using the volume buttons, but do not make any choice with power button.
Is it hardware failure?
Anybody had similar problems?

Had the exact same issue on my Nexus S. 100% the same. I was also unable to re lock my boot loader cause of it due to being unable to flash, navigate or use adb due to the button being "pressed" all the time. Brought it to Samsung and they replaced the button sensor. It was 100% hardware as yours is too if your phone boots when you put the battery in (before the os even boots). Warranty time my friend. Samsung makes awesome phones with **** power buttons

Hi All,
Please help me if you can with the problem I am now experiencing
HTC One X is my first android phone, i have had it for about 3 months. It has been brilliant ever since i had it
However last night I installed the Amazon APP Store as its now available in the UK. Ever Since my phone has gone absolutely haywire
Its a real stuggle to get it on, if you hold down Power it vibrates and the 3 lights flash a few times, then nothing. Sometimes it comes on! Then when its on its DEAD slow, like really really slow, also after a minute or so the resolution changes and things are all in the wrong place; then the touchscreen doesnt respond, so i turn it off and the cycle continues
I have managed to get back on it, and to get rid of the Amazon App store but I am still facing the same difficulities.
My HTC One X is UK version and is on stock ICM.
Do you have any ideas how I can return it to working order?
Also: DAMN YOU AMAZON
EDIT: BTW, when i press power, the lights at the bottom are on, and i can hear the volume sound change, but no screen. I am trying to factory reset but cant get the phone working long enough to find it
If you press and hold power button + volume down at the same time the phone will boot into Bootloader. From there you can do a factory reset. Navigate with volume keys to Hboot and use power button as confirm. There should be an option there for factory reset..

Unfortunately i cannot get the PC to look for it, and i cant get into the thing where you hold down power and down arrow
I think the screen has totally given up, which i dont understand; this was always a software issue
Install a RUU matching your device and then see what happens. If that doesn't solve it, then MAYBE hardware issue.
Hello.
really fed up. Just got my new nexus 7 2013 the other day. Boot it up.......shows that its in safe mode.......followed tutorials on just restarting the phone, completely resetting it to stock, upgrade etc and nothing works.
Also my volume down button does not work (volume up does) but strangely i can boot into bootloader by holding the power button and down volume key so to me that says the volume key is working?????? but not decreasing the volume.
Id be very thankful for the input
I think if it were me I'd return it and get a replacement. That sounds like a lot of problems right out of the box and even if you get it working they might come back down the road.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
One of the ways of booting into safe mode is by holding volume down while on the boot animation, so I'd bet there's a hardware issue with your volume down button. Definitely return it for a replacement.
