There will be a signature mismatch with the stock browser that is installed.
Once u uninstall it like i showed, then u can install/uninstall this like a regular app.
Edit : I cud make this into an update.zip if ppl want it tht way :S. That will replace the stock browser with this, but since core won't be running it won't complain about a digest mismatch in the manifest.
hmm okay i see an update.zip would be cool if you could thanks for this!
sorry for the stupid question, but... What do "fullscreen" means? What practical improvement we get?

It hides the status bar essentially. So u have literally the WHOLE screen to browse a page.
Thank you i will give it a try!

Do u have adb setup ?
Like if you open command prompt / terminal and type "adb devices", u should see ur device. if you see "adb not found" or "list of attached devices" with noting underneath it then u haven't setup correctly. Google for setting up adb on ur platform.
Thx for help. I have uninstall it without problems. But by the installation i typing:
# adb install browser.apk
adb install browser.apk
adb: not found
#
I have copying your browser.apk in the tools folder. So what do I do wrong?
Thx you!

Hi all,
I've recently flashed to MoDaCo 2.2 however I'm just assuming my device got rooted at the same time - but I don't know for sure.
What's the easiest way to verify it has been rooted?
Thanks!
1. use search forum or google..
2. adb shell su
thats it
It keeps saying device not found, but works for my mytouch and G1. Any ideas?

Yup did that too...my other phones pick it up no issues.
I also get the exact same problem (i.e. Device not found) - I guess it is a hint that it isn't rooted maybe (although I assumed it was automatic with flashing MoDaCo 2.2)?
Sound like a problem with your driver. But you should have been able to connect before to install the custom rom?
Download astro file manager and you should be able to see files that you couldn't see before

OK I got a work around. You need to restore your PC to a point BEFORE you plug in your hero. I did this and now works great.
How I might undo root process?
I think that replace chmod 4755 permision to default in the "su" file, but I don't know how to
No need to do, but I'm intererested in the concept
There is a thread on how to unroot:
Open Windows Console and connect Hero with PC
write this:
fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
adb shell rm /system/bin/su
adb shell reboot

its a sticky.. its really hard NOT to find it
edit: okay it WAS a sticky, but its also on the first site in this subforum.. so no problem to at least SEE it
I used to use "Root Explorer" on my hero to delete system apps before..doesn't seem to work anymore..
solution??

did you mount /system in rw mode? (it's ro by default)
U dont have write access to system partition in normal use if i read the tutorial right. U have to do it with an update.zip (editing the update script) or with adb both u have to do in recovery menu from modaco i think. Tell me if i am wrong.
Sry for my bad english
@cezarL yes I did
@xtcislove I wish u were wrong..seems like pain.. anyway to do it without a pc?

Damn, you're right. Previously, I had deleted an .apk just to check if it's working, then reinstalled the app right away.
But I just tested now, it looks like after a reboot, the .apk magically reappears, and the application is running as usual

Try this: Boot in recovery menu and try the following commands:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/APP.apk
adb shell rm /data/app/APP.apk
where APP.apk is the filename of the apk with the .apk extention, remember case-sensitive!
for example:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/FriendStream.apk
adb shell rm /system/app/FriendStream.odex
take a look before if your app has a odex or try this: (here u need only one command)
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/*FriendStream*
Good luck and have fun =)
Edit: Just find a topic =)

I'm trying to do these things in windows at the moment. No issues getting in the recovery with the windows scripts. But when I try to open a ADB Shell after I've gone to recovery I can't really do anything with it and the recovery hangs (not controllable with the track pad).
Anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong?
You're not doing anything wrong, from what I've seen opening a new adb instance on Windows will kill the server created by the .bat file used for recovery... which means the connection to the device is lost. I haven't looked into it further, but it might be fixeable somehow.
Ah I see, so basicly you undo the patched recovery by opening a new session. It does work properly under Linux then? I run ubuntu on my netbook so It's not a big issue anyway. Thanks for the tip, gonna try under linux now!
I'm having the same problems as:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...co-com/307401/removing-sys-apps/#entry1256015
I removed a load of HTC widgets but I get strange entries on the widget menu. Anyone know how to get rid of these?
Also, I removed Stocks (.apk and .odex), now I get a force close on 'Accounts & sync'. Anyone know how to remove Stocks properly?
Cheers.
After running the bat file to get into recovery, start a new cmd prompt in windows and use again adb-nilezon for shell commands instead of ordinary adb, and it wont be killed.
This has worked for me atleast

The best, foolproof, failsafe way is to remove them from the rom before installing it... and remember that some services are still required, weather you use them or not.
But, if a system app is already installed you need to remove:
the apk from /system/app
the data from /data/data/appname
the cache from /cache/dalvik-cache
Do not remove Accounts & Sync...
Thanks for the answer.
I guess now is a good time to bake my own ROM!

Hey guys, before saying anything else, I'm a complete newb to this. That being said, I have MetroDroid 1.0 as my ROM and it doesn't have htcfacebook.apk installed on it, so no contacts syncing. It angers me! What I need is the htcfacebook.apk and .odex files, and a good tutorial on how to install them on my EVO. Im a noob, so you'll need to be detailed lol. I've been looking around but I cant find clear instructions, so I tough I might as well ask. Thank in advance
Nevermind, I figured all that out. Now it says 'failed to copy. out of memory'
After trying to install using the
adb install HtcFacebook.apk

Try this. Put the apk in the Android sdk tools folder and open command prompt and navigate to the tools folder. Then run;
adb push HTCFacebook.apk /system/app/ (press enter)
adb shell reboot
Hope this helps.

To be more exact, this what I had typed in
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb push HtcFacebook.apk /system/app/

Also, my EVO was in recovery when I did this.
type "adb remount" before you push
and if that doesnt work, lose the first '/'
if you are in recovery you will need to
adb shell
#mount /system/
exit
then you can push them to system
adb push /yoursdklocation/tools/yourapk.apk/ /system/app
if not in recovery the
adb remount
will suit your purpose

Alright, I did what you said (for pushing in recovery, because out of recovery it would say i didnt have enough memory) and now it said
C:\Users\Marius>adb push HtcFacebook.apk /system/app

I'm guessing that was supposed to happen? Now what do I do? just run the command 'adb install HtcFacebook.apk'?

Erm.. you need to download android SDK from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
then use terminal(on PC), navigate to your <sdk folder>\platform-tools
and use those commands..
I tried to create an update.zip for u.. doesn't work
Can you give me the backup framework-res.apk?

d,
did you reset permissions on build.prop to 644 ?
if not boot to recovery, connect to pc
in terminal, assuming you are using linux, enter;
adb start-server
adb remount
adb shell
and wait for service to start and bring up prompt
then at prompt
# chmod 644 /system/build.prop
exit and reboot

notepad++ is good,
unless you set something wrong inside build.prop then it is the wrong permissions on the file
download aromafm http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2231581&stc=1&d=1378202418
install just like any zip in recovery just make sure you mount system from recovery. navigate to /system long press on
build.prop and select change permissions. and you should be good unless like i said you got something wrong in
build.prop itself.

before your run aromafm, select mounts option in recovery and mount /system , then run aromafm.
there is an option in aromafm to automount all partitions, very helpful.
it takes a little till you get the hang of using it. very good tool.
