Hello everyone,
I've decided to purchase a brand HTC Desire (based Android 2.1), and I've got couple of questions.
- How hard is it to upgrade to Android 2.2 (Officialy) ?
- Why do I need to root my device and why the other ROMs considered better than HTC's default ?
- What is radio upgrade ?
- What are the risks of rooting & upgrading it ?
I know its a lot of question, but it will give me a closer about buying it.
Thanks a lot
1. If you buy an EU Desire chances are it will already be on 2.2 (unless 2nd hand)
2. Rooting allows you to install custom ROMs with the bloatware that the stock ROM comes with removed so you can have it with just the apps you want on it
3. Radio update is what tells Android how to communicate with the hardware
4. Rooting WILL invalidate your warranty but if you have a generic Desire you can flash it back to stock easily

hey guys, I got a desire and I'm new to android. so I have some questions:
1. my firmware is 1.19.707.7 and I know 1.21 is the lastest, but it says i have the newst one. what's wrong ? ( my Desire is unlocked and unbranded)
2. Froyo is coming to Desire this weekend, but how I know if I'll also get it? cause I heard only europe desire will get it.
3.How to root my Desire? I heard its different in 1.19.707.7 ?
4.My desire I think is from singapore, can I change the firmware to europe one ?
Thanks
1. There is nothing wrong. 1.19.707.7 is the latest Asia WWE rom.
2. The news was that Froyo is coming out this weekend across Europe (meaning Desire with EU roms) so you can't get it. At least not via OTA (but the real question is if it will actually get out).
3. Rooting method depends on bootloader version (at least paul's method).
Read about paul's method here and about unrevoked method here.
4. If you can flash custom roms, there shouldn't be a problem flashing different official rom.
First you have to root and then flash.
2.if I flash the europe official rom to my Desire, I'll also get OTA of Froyo?
3.my bootloader version is 0.80.0000
-Where is the paid applications? I can't find them in my desire, I see only free applications.
-If I flash to the official EU rom, I won't face any problems because it's official right? also My root will stay?
thanks man!
Hi, in my personal opinion, I think you will only get update if you r in Europe country plus your phone must be debranded and unlocked.
My htc desire is flash with the 1.21 HTC WWE roms and I'm in UK but I still can't get any update yet.
So i'm not sure whether or not the update is a false alarm to all of us.

Paid Android Market apps are available only in certain countries - list
Root will stay only if you flash pre-rooted official rom. But hey, unrevoked rooting method is very very simple so rooting again shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks!
just a question :
if I flash the europe official rom to my Desire, I'll also get OTA of Froyo?
Because Froyo has support of my language and I must it
Could someone please clarify what is the latest HTC Desire HD software version for the UK please?
I have recently bought a HTC Desire HD a few days ago and the version on my brand new sim free DHD is 1.32.405.6 with no updates showing when attempting to search for an update via OTA.
Thing is I notice talk of a 1.72 build on this forum and was wondering have other DHD owners in the UK had this update yet or what exactly is the situation with newer software in the UK?
Also theres some other talk of this newer version being pulled? Just really trying to clarify what exactly is happening as I have read in the newer build battery life on the DHD has improved and this would be very welcome as with any other enhancements.

1.72 was removed by HTC as it seemed to be having some issues, especially with SD cards, the battery life improvements are down to the newer radio which can be found here, a quick caution newer OTA upgrades patch the exploit that is used to gain root so if you anticipate wanting to root your DHD and flash customs roms best to avoid them.

Thanks very much for clarifying, I was wondering why there was no update showing as people on here were talking about 1.72 and I have 1.32 with no updates showing.
I have rooted my DHD with visionary only to get Screen shot working and have done S-OFF only to get Adfree working.
I have got Rom Manager installed with Clockworkmod but haven't installed any custom roms as this is a brand new phone for me and to be honest I'm happy with the stock look of the phone. I only rooted and got S-OFF to get the two above things working. So basically when this 1.72 does come the root will be taken away I see.
I am a proud owner of my new HTC Desire HD. I have to say it is impressive thus far. I bought it factory direct world unlocked. I know that it is the Android Froyo 2.2 operating system, not sure of the radio. This is my very first android phone as I have switched over from Windows Mobile when I had my HTC Rhodium. The Questions I have are these:
1. If it is world unlocked from the factory to work with any GSM carrier do I have to worry about unlocking it to add new roms?
2. This phone is not available in the US as they do not support the towers, but it will still work on the 2G/EDGE mode. Is there a radio upgrade to make it work?
3. I know that Android 2.3 and 3.0 have come out, is there a factory version of either of these available here or anywhere for the DHD?
4. What is the best course of action I can take to get the most out of my new android phone?
Thank you for all of your help, this site has been so great to me in the past!
Hello all,
I'm new to both the forum and Android so please excuse me if this is a stupid question.
I have a HTC Desire Z (Vision) on Vodafone in the UK. Before I consider rooting the device (if I did it would only be to allow me a full backup option) I wondered if anybody knows where I can get the stock unrooted Vodafone rom so that it can be returned to it's original state if need-be?
From what I have been told (and please correct me if I'm wrong), once the device is rooted, a new unmolested rom is required to unroot the device. I have looked high and low on the net but can't find the Vodafone ROM for the Z (The HD and the Desire seem to be findable but not the Z!!).
Thanks ever so much for your help,
Dav
i am also interested in the stock vodafone rom
couldn t find it in the web
and to make a backup from my installed stock rom i need root,
which a only get if i downgrade my rom to a stock without branding .....
It will be practically impossible to get from another User because that stock ROM will only be in the hands of the manufacturers/carriers. This is because users can't NANDroid backup the same way us rooted users do. Anyways, I don't see the manufacturers releasing them any time soon..
hmm .. that means that there is no chance restoring the branded rom for warrenty
(after rooting the device) ???
Is there a vodafone ROM? I have vodafone branded. but there's no sign of any difference between this and the stock HTC ROM.
i have a vodafone boot animation...
and the version number is different from the original htc desire z rom..
Hello all,
I've absolutely loved my Desire HD running Android Revolution but I've just been offered a free upgrade to a better handset. And I need to get it back to stock as soon as possible for warranty purposes. However I neither backed up the ROM nor took down any particulars. So any help you might have concerning the required settings, ROM and radio would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks!
PV.
What you need to do is find the Three RUU for your handset, this is probably the quickest and easiest way to return the phone to stock. If you get the Super S-off tool then you will be able to go back to s-on. (unless this was done by the RUU)
The other thing to bear ni mind is that if your RUU installer says that the upgrade is not for your phone then you may need to change the CID from the super CID to Three AU CID.
Good luke
Thanks! Does anyone here have a link to the stock ROM? I'm looking at this one right now but it seems older:
