I have experienced the following issue when trying to organize my pictures on my memory card.
My wife and I attended an event on Sunday and I took about 30 pictures while we were there. Today, I plugged my Incredible into my computer and chose to use it as a disk drive.
I have a folder named "Pictures" already on the SD Card. I cut the pics from the DCIM directory on the internal memory and pasted them into a new folder in the "Pictures" folder. I "ejected" the cards (internal and external) from the laptop and went to view the pics.
The result is that my SD Card became "Read Only" and I was unable to access my photo gallery through my phone. So, I took the card out of the phone and placed into my laptop. Here I found that all of the files had become corrupted during the move, even the new "Folder" and the pictures are now lost.
Is there something I am doing wrong? A better process for organizing the pics? Or is this a bug and if so how/where do I report it to HTC? Thanks!
Forgot to mention:

Android 2.2 Froyo
Skyraider 2.5.2 Sense
LauncherPro
Thanks.

So, I've been noticing weirdly-named, zero-byte files on my external sdcard lately. These are appearing in the root of the external card and the /Dropbox folder that contains a couple folders I sync with Dropbox via Dropsync. Most of these files appear to be named "µ". Dozens of them in each directory. Most of them show up with that same name. A few are other unprintable and weird characters.
Any thoughts?

Possible malware? I would backup both sd cards to your PC then format them. After that only put the files back in that you know you need, and the rest will be there if you need them. Remove all those odd files before doing anything though.
You could also try the sd maid app to clean it up.
Someone else posted about this a few weeks ago. I think the extsd was going bad.
The problem was on my 16gb card.
I was trying (again) to get my 32gb/class 10 working with my SGSIII. It still won't work reliably. So, I reformatted the 16gb and copied everything back. We'll see if these files return.
Thanks for the advise.
The phone has recently been rooted, but running stock rom.
Card is partitioned and using Links2SD
The problem appeared after rooting and using Links2sd.
After taking multiple photos on a day out, we mounted the phone to PC. All the pictures that were taken disapeared. After unmounting from the PC< the photos now no longer appear in the gallery either.
After much searching and running checks on the SD card, i discovered that all the photos that were taken that disapeared had been moved to the lost directory with no file extension. Most of the files are instact, with probably 3 usually being corrupt, and might not even be photos anyway, as it appears that all the photos that were taken are still 100% intact.
This happens consistantly. if you take photos, then mount it to the PC they end up in LOST.DIR with no file extensions along with a couple of corrupted files. The time from taken the pictures to mounting them in the PC doesnt have any effect. The photos appear in the gallery fine, but once mounted, they end up in LOST.DIR and no longer appear in the gallery.
Thought that the partitions were no created correctly, so deleted both partitions and repartitioned the cards from scratch and formatted them, and set the phone back up from scratch. The phone has been mounted to the PC many times since i done this and the corruption problem has gone, but now its back again.
Am i right in thinking that maybe the SD card is starting to be faulty, its the stock card that came with the phone so nothing expensive. Just 2g probbaly class 2 card.
Both partitions are FAT32
A few days ago I noticed my phone wasn't taking photos correctly. They were corrupted. After a little research, I tried to reformat the sdcard from the phone settings but nothing actually happened, my files were all still on the sdcard. So after looking at the properties of pictures in the 3 different "camera" albums (I've had a few different roms on here) I realized that they're all in the internal storage under various folders like extsdcard/DCIM, sdcard/DCIM, and 0/sdcard/DCIM. Through ES file explorer I was able to determine that my external sd card called sdcard0.
I have my camera set to save externally but it's still not working, although my music reads fine from it.
Initially I though the problem was formatting the external sdcard but now I'm thinking the internal structure is a giant mess from the various roms and I'd really like to get it purged out and organized for stock (ish) TW roms. Can someone provide some guidance?
I'm currently on Jedi XP16.
Thanks
HI all,
I've come across a strange issue where when I save my photos to the SD card, and I delete them off the phone using either the Gallery app or Google photos (using the delete everywhere option) the photos get removed from the gallery/google photos, but the files still exist on the SD Card. Note that I am empting the trash in google photos when I delete it too. When I browse the storage on the phone, the pictures are still there! So when I reboot the phone, the pictures come back to Google Photos and also the gallery. This does not happen when I save them to the internal storage. What is also strange is when I browse the SD Card camera directory via Windows Explorer, the photos do not appear either. Its only through the file explorer on the phone (show hidden files is enabled). I have a samsung 32 GB HDXC SD Card installed. I've also reformatted the card multiple times. Is anyone having this same issue?
Chris
It's normal in KK 4.4.2
Have a look:

Interesting. I just switch back to Android so I'm not up to date on all the changes.
I would think the stock gallery/camera app would have ownership of the SDCard/DCIM/Camera directory. Is there a workaround without rooting the phone?
Hi! I have htc 10 with 128 gb sd card formatted as internal memory. I was transferring a photo folder from phone to laptop using USB cable and USB connection in media transfer mode. The folder seemed to be transferring alright but the pasted folder in laptop is empty. Since I didn't understand photo sync in Google photos I don't have any backup...desperately seeking to restore that folder. Need all the help
I'd avoid using the SD as internal, sounds great in principle but can cause issues if there's an interrupt..
For apps I'd use folder mount, needs root but it's simple to use and doesn't affect internal memory.
In regards to the images, did you cut the images? Copy or simply drag them, a drag would be a copy. So the original should have remained. If you cut them then they'll have been in limbo and will then be marked for deletion.
In future always use copy instead.
If the photos are no longer in the phones memory then they'll have been marked for deletion, a data recovery app on Windows and or your mobile may help but not sure.. Have had a lot of luck on SD cards when plugged into Windows but never scanned a phone as it's a live OS and I imagine it would need complete read access.
If the photos were on the SD card and are no longer visible, connect the SD card up to your computer because if they're marked for deletion and the OS decides to use those clusters, it'll be overwritten which will make it harder for recovery.
Hi,
apps from market not working for me, but Recuva has worked hundred times for me.
