One wish for my Desire...
someone can tell me where I can find apk or something similar to add this useful tool to my Desire? It is like the iPhone...
I don't find anything in the market...
Copy/Paste is a built-in feature: select some text, e.g. in a textbox or webpage, click it and hold your finger there for a little while and then a context menu should pop up letting you copy the selection. Next, inside any textbox where you can type manually, click into it and hold your finger there to bring up another popup letting you paste your copied text.
Btw, this is the development forum. I dont think your question fits here.
I think he wants to not press and then select copy but like in the iphone just press in the text. Previous in 2.1 i managed to do this, but now on 2.2 i cant.
There's a free file manager in the Android market called AndExplorer. It's quite a good file manager. It even lets you look in the phone's folders. Copy and paste and all that jazz with this app.
I hope that's what you meant.

It's not. He meant (and said) he wants to copy/paste text, not files.
there is such function in Sence, in 2.2 too. If you want it, use 2.2 with Sence roms.
Is anyone interested in or capable of adding copy / paste functionality in to the Vanilla 2.2 Email.apk? This should be the source code [here]; I have no clue how difficult or possible this is, but it seems like it would be a simple enough problem to fix considering ALL of the other E-mail applications I have used have it.
The link again: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/packages/apps/Email.git;a=summary
You can press menu->more->select text... it works, though it's not exactly elegant. There needs to be a more unified c/p base on this OS.
EDIT: Nevermind, had read Email as Gmail. Sorry .
Wish I could help but I can't. On another note, I love how the copy/paste is on the HTC email program now. It brings up a magnifier box and two "selectors" to show where and to you want to copy from. Think it does it in the default browser too but Xscope is my default. Would be cool if it was the Android default way.
Im not sure I missed this before... Anyone knows how to paste a copied phone number into the dialler? Desire recognises a phone number often, but sometimes it doesnt. I hate to use a pen and paper to write a number down from an email etc. Is there a way to copy a number and somwhere paste it to the dialler?
:/
Open google search, paste the number and you will get the options you are looking for...
Thanks.. sounds promising. But when I paste a number in the searchfield, it just takes me to Google search website?
Thanks
I use the app "colornote" . When u paste a tel.number in colornote and press back, you get a clickable link which opens in the dialer.

Use google search! Not the search button. You will get appropriate actions...
Hi thanks.
I realise I had to go to Search Settings and change Searchable items and then tick off 'Web'.
So it works fine... great thanks for the tip!
Coming from the HTC world I am loving my SII. Soooo much smoother and more responsive, not to mention the hardware improvements. One of the small things I am missing is the mail client on the HTCs. I loved how you could multi-select any or all emails on the screen and choose delete, mark read, etc. Is there a mod, theme, or anything that will allow the mail clients on the SII to do this? Or tell me I am just missing an option or something and its already there.
Thanks,
The Gmail app should do it automatically.
You can replace the Samsung app with AOSP Email or K9 (build on AOSP email), which will both allow multi-select.
K9 is no good on exchange 2010. Will AOSP work with exchange 2010? I will look for the app, if you have a link post it up please.
Thanks,
Found the AOSP email.apk. Tried to push it to system/apps but I got an error when trying to install. I had the folder mounted r/w and permissions set correctly. Is there a tutorial on how to push an AOSP mail.apk ?

So you were asking Calk's thread about "installing" something. That shouldn't have been an option at all during the process. At what point were you seeing that option?
You don't need to do anything outside of what I have listed here:
Download or extract the desired app apk and place it somewhere on your SD where you can find it (I highly recommend Dropbox for this)
Open Root Explorer (or ROM Toolbox Root Browser or ES or Other) and navigate to /system/app
Mount R/W (top right in Root Explorer, R/W is on by default in ROM Toolbox)
If this is a system app, long press existing apk and either move (if you want to keep it) or delete (if you don't care)
If moving, navigate to the place you want to store the original apk using the Parent Folder line at the top
Paste to the desired location then go to the place with the new/replacement system apk
Longpress the replacement apk and choose copy or move
Navigate back to /system/app (should still be mounted) and paste the replacement apk
Longpress the replaced apk and select permissions
On the permissions pop-up leave all three in the first column (Read) checked, only the top item in the middle column (Write) checked and none in the third column, (Execute) and nothing else checked.
Hit OK and enjoy! Your permissions should now read (rw-r--r--)

Here is the apk. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't have to use Exchange any more so I can't test it, but i know I have seen many posts on this over the past year or so. A Google search will probably net you the best way to get AOSP mail and Exchange working together.
Also for future reference it is much easier to just extract any apk you want from a ROM zip than to wait for someone to post it. If you are unsure how to do that, hit the HowTo's link in my signature. that knowledge will give you much more control over your experience going forward and can help you fix all sorts of issues.

Good find. My previous tutorial had the screen shots as well. Makes life much easier. Not sure if this apk is different from the one I posted, but I'd go with his just in case. I am pushing it now to test. If it works the same, I'll replace the one I posted with the one from that thread.
EDIT: Looks like this is the same as the one I posted. At least the version is the same. I didn't go through each item in the apk, but xml's are the same and all of the file sizes are the same, so not sure about the "wakelock fix" mentioned. Anyway, gald you are taken care of.

yeah, that wake lock is annoying... i got it working, i tested both, and they are the same... 1 problem... i cant get the notifications to be right... after installing. I had a notification showing, that i couldnt get rid of, i cleared data, and fixed permissions, rebooted several times, and couldnt get it to go away... I just wish I could get the samsung version without wake lock... Hmmm
anyways, restored nandroid, and i guess i will deal with wake lock, unless you know how to fix the notification i had in email and social hub. it wouldnt go away/.
and YES Exchange works on Both!!!
I have tried all the suggestions and all that happens are FC's. Sucks cause I really wanted the multi select back.

WTF am I doing wrong then? I keep getting FC's. Can you walk me through your steps exactly please?
I think I got it. I was trying to install it on a stock rooted rom. I loaded up a different rom and it installed fine. I will run with it for a little while and see how it does. I am also having the notification issue.
Thanks for all the help.
Well i cant live with the non-clearing notifications issue...LOL. Oh well, looks like we will just have t wait for Samsung to fix it i guess. Bummer.
Thanks for all the help anyhow.

The real bummer is that it was free app of the day on Amazon a couple of weeks back. But yes it is a good app.
As far as the notifications, I've seen the fix somewhere, but I can't find it. The first time I saw it was in a Google search. If I find the source, I'll post it here.

same here, it seems to have that cursor to select the words, but when i scroll down to try to select the rest of the copy, it cant be done.
does anyone know how to copy message in email? i dont want to select it as picture like how you can select from the S Pen.
pls help!
thanks!
Mine works fine using the same methods, strange you cant do the same
For email its the same, well using the gmail app it is. The only thing different is the copy menu appears at the bottom on email.
I encountered the same problem using the Maxthon browser, but when I tried the native browser that comes with the Note2, the copy and paste with the pen works! (that's a relief!). This was in an edit content window in my web site's custom CMS.
It's a bit cumbersome but I hope it will get easier with practice.
