I purchased the desire for the high spec, question
how much memory should you have free for programs .. ive done a hard reset and only have around 130mb of program memory free
when you read the spec its
ROM: 512 MB
RAM: 576 MB
where is the rest of the space ???
anyone got higher program memory ??? can this be changed ??
mind you i still have 40+ mb left with shed loads of programs but would like higher
superb phone though
I noticed my phone has only 477 MB of RAM, should not be 512?
I'm on CM7.2 12 feb nightly.
nothings ever a s much as it's quoted ^^
my SD for example is suppose to be 8GB... but it says 7.4GB
& why are chip packets only a third full!? :FFS:

Some part of the ram is occupied by the Android Operating System..
so obviously it shows less than the actual RAM...
size is bluff

this size difference is coz companies bluff with MB & GB values..while we consider 1M=1024K, 1K=1024 for digital devices, companies calculate with 1M=1000K, 1K=1000 units
ultimately when u have 8GB SD card you consider 8*1024*1024*1024 Bytes but actually its 8*1000*1000*1000 Bytes = 8000000000 Bytes
thus you get (((8000000000)/1024)/1024)/1024) = 7.45 GB
I think that some RAM is taken by the graphics chip, just like all the integrated graphics chips do when they don't have their own RAM
Just my thought, although I could totally be the one who's wrong
Cheers, you buddies

if you have GPU (defy has a powervx) don't needs memory from RAM.... is taken by OS (android).
i understand, thanks you, but some users post screenshots of they system info, and the ram shows exactly 512, the total ram obviously, not the used one.
There's 290MB RAM available but probably 384MB physical. Is this limitation somewhere in non-changeable ROM defined or is there a chance to increase it?
Edit: corrected 512 to 384 MB.
wow...are you sure. how did you know that?
Sorry, I misread it. Probably 384MB according to service manual. Updated first post.
my sister has galaxy mini with default ram 384mb. when she changed the rom to gingerbread the ram became 290mb. It could be something related with the rom as you've said.
i read that some ram is reserved for GPU you can decrease or increase that number but im not really sure of the results
Yeah, but where can I decrease it? I've also read somewhere that there's also some memory reserved for the camera.
i think the RAM memory is shared with the GPU, because it will be too large to put another memory chip for the GPU..
Hey guys I have a Xperia s running on 6.0.1 aosp ROM...it is rooted and repartitioned ...can anyone tell me how to get the complete 32gb and 1gb ram coz the custom ROM has eaten my 3gb internal and I need full 1gb ram ..thks
Have you ever used a computer before?
The OS needs resources, it's a piece of software after all. The GPU will, in turn take some RAM, as it's not exactly a GeForce with dedicated RAM.
In other words, the only way you're getting 32 GB and 1 GB of RAM is if you uninstall everything, including the OS. Good luck doing anything with it other than holding down some sheets of paper or balancing a table.
Hi all,
I was wondering...
The Pixel C has 3GB of ram and 1GB of VRAM.
Would it be possible to use part of the VRAM, instead of using the 500MB zram, as swap space?
I personally exclusively use my PixelC in a chroot environment with debian and Xserver Xsdl, so GPU is not much used anyway, so there is almost 1GB of memory just sitting there unused...
I have read the following pages that mention that something was/is possible on desktop NVIDIA gpus...
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6321551/how-to-use-graphics-memory-as-ram
https://web.archive.org/web/2016032...iki.info/TIP_Use_memory_on_video_card_as_swap
By the way... would it be remotely possible to swap out the ram chips? from what i understand there are 2 1.5 GB samsung chips on the board...
Would do anything to get more memory on my beloved tablet
