I dunno, I kinda think it's a decent question.
Non-Sense can mean two things for the EVO. There are roms based on the stock rom, but with sense elements removed, and then true AOSP builds. Right now the only AOSP build is Cyanogen.
The non-AOSP roms can be very nice, and will have working 4G, FM Radio, and HDMI (although with the same HDMI limitations present in the stock rom). They still have the Sense framework, and lot of part are still from sense, like the long press power menu, the menu to choose what to do when connected to USB, the settings menu, etc. Some of this could probably even be changed out but nobody has yet.
For these look in the development forum, off the top of my head there is NonSense from tjohnsonjr, and more recently VaelPak. FroYo Fusion has a non-sense version, but I think it may just be the launcher.
As for AOSP builds, I'm quite surprised we haven't seen more. Some of the oldest 2.2 builds were from stock 2.2 AOSP (like Avalaunch Evolution) but they didn't have working cameras.
With the work Cyanogen and Toastcfh have done and open sourced, a good dev could build AOSP from scratch. I guess they don't because CM is so close to stock it wouldn't be too different, but other phones have more AOSP roms.

unrooted and did upgrade to 2.2 n still pri1.34.... any help or suggestions or ideas
Right now everyone who has rooted is stuck with the PRI due to the bootloader. There is a bounty out for a solution to upgrade.

Part of the mystery with my evo. I am running a rooted 2.2 rom, and I have PRI 140. Android was all new to me, so I made some mistakes along the way. No idea how my phone ended up like this, but I have a few strange issues.
I was actually thinking of restoring a nandroid from 2.1, erasing everything, and re-rooting with Toast's method and then going back to 2.2. This PRI thing confuses me, so I might be in a position where that won't work.

Running an RUU won't revert everything that happened in the root process. You flashed the ENG ROM reverting the PRI, this is basically irreversible unless there is another signed ENG ROM with the 1.40 PRI in it. Or now with the UnrEVOked Forever you can technically flash it if we find anything with the PRI data in it.

Most likely rooted with unrevoked, that why he is saying he will start over and root with toast this time around.

Download it to your SD card, and flash it from recovery.
That's not a terribly poor question, but I think the worst part was that you titled the thread "Evo 4g" instead of, say, "How do I flash a kernel?" Although that would have been equally bad, as it's the same thing you would have typed into a search bar (or just Google) to find an answer. Regardless, we need a law about thread titles around here.

Agreed. Admins need to add a "Did you search already?" captcha or something before people can make threads.
I need to know if i need the down volume key in order to try and jail break my G2. I had to replace the LCD and without knowing it i popped out the button and was never able to find it. I know that you need the key to help do a hard reset of your phone, but is it important to have it when trying to jail break the phone.
First of all you can't jailbreak a Android phone (it's a iPhone thing) You can root your G2.
You use the volume down button to get into Hboot wich also can be done through ADB so yes you can still root it

I am a noob to all this... I wasnt quite sure as i have read many times that you need to hboot your phone while rooting it... Thank you for letting me know i can do the hboot while plugged in to the computer from command prompt.. I hope to have my phone rooted soon.
