[request] app or cmd for screen calibration **money offered** - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I am having problems with my screen calibration. Whether I flash clean with cw or RA my calibration is off.
If I lay my phone flat it goes 270. And I can barely get it to go 90. I really do not want to go back to sense ever.
I will pay for a fix or calibration app.
Have tried going back to fresh and using g calibration under settings/display. After that orientation is great. But as soon as I flash any cm6 rc2 or latest nightly then calibration is so bad that it is almost unuseable.
About to try new nightly and hope for the best. I hate sense more than I ever knew.
tried new nightly and no luck. about to flash ruu and start over i guess.

Are you talking about calibrating the touch screen or the orientation(accelerometer)?

sorry i am referring to the orientation.

Flashing the RUU won't help. I had the same problem and it bothered me so much I just turned rotation off. I think it's just a bug (or an oversight) in CM6. Hopefully, Cyanogen will take care of it before an ofish release.

glad to know someone else is having this issue.
really makes me mad because cm6 was flawless on my last evo.
so i am thinking there is a way to workaround it. I am looking into maybe an adb command or something to calibrate it or find a way to pull the calibration from stock rom.

Settings > Display > G-sensor settings
Enjoy.

If you didn't read the post they have tried that already.
Personally I think you should maybe try a wipe and a different rom/kernel setup. I don't know what is available for the evo atm but surely there is a fix without needing to write a completely new calibration app. Good luck.
Edit: watch for a sky raider port if one isn't out already its about a million times better than cm 6 at least on the incredible.

problem is there is no calibration setting inside of cm6. and like op i tried using it on a sense rom then going back to cm6 with no luck.

How much can be expected from a beta? And its a port no less. I'm running it right now, and battery life isn't too bad. Are you signed into HTC hub, and have Google backing up your info, and syncing Facebook and stuff? That will chew battery up pretty quick.

WOW, your first post is to complain on such a talented developer....Go elsewhere and troll.
Make sure your awake and up times aren't exactly the same. If so, your phone could have problems sleeping. The fix for that is flashing a PRI downgrade to 1.77. Also, which kernel are you using? I'm using the same Rom with netarchy-toastmod-4.3.2-bfs-sbc-havs-more-universal-signed and getting great battery life.

ive heard alot about that problem that and having to switch to amon ra have scared me away from flashing the rom.. but if that fixes that issue i might have to man up and flash
It's a beautiful rom and I haven't had any performance issues. The install process wasn't too difficult but before you switch your recovery app and go through the SD wipe process you might want to follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061615 -- as it seems to be developing fast and will have a lot of the sense 3.0 features.
Hey Andeese you are running toast? I thought sense kernels broke camera. Was this fixed in B3. The gb kernel that virus suggested works pretty good.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
It only breaks the viewfinder for the camera and camcorder applications. So you'll see a whitescreen rather than what the camera is actually seeing; however, the pictures and videos taken will be fine. So you have to eyeball your pictures and then open them up in gallery to see how they look. It's slightly inconvenient but it's better than using the stock ginger kernel if you have a novatek screen(100% brightness with stock kernel).
I noticed earlier that there was some "lagging" in a video I had just recorded. Does the toast kernel have that "lagging" issue? How can you tell if you have nova screen?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
The stuttering in video is apparently going to be addressed in the next revision of that rom. I forgot about that. =\ The best way to identify which screen you have is: Adjust your brightness up or down. If it fades rather than instantly becoming brighter or darker than it is a nova. If you get an instant screen adjustment you have an epson.
Thanks bro you just saved me bout an hour of reading lol

Yeah, the threads in the development forums tend to be filled with unnecessary chatter. It's ridiculously hard to find answers to questions I've had. =\

First, can you make your title more clearer...Like EI22 rotation lag?
And second, try the calibration again. I haven't seen mention of this yet, but if more users show up with it then I am sure someone will make a lag fix on it.
Well I'll throw my vote in on this... I have lag and hor. cal. doesn't do it.

Have you tried doing the horizontal calibration with the screen upside down? That used to fix my rotation lags on froyo. Something about using it with the screen facing up always made it lag instead of fixing it.. If that don't work u might have to try using terminal emulator and see if that helps.

See Gingerbread Horizontal Calibration and these posts: my calibration question and jbadboy2007's response and jt1134's rebuttal.
The short story is that there is no known calibration method for GB, whether on a stock-based ROM or AOSP, such as CM7.
* Note: jt1134 is one of the CM7 devs, therefore I feel pretty confident he knows what he's talking about. I'm pretty sure jbadboy2007 is experienced as well.
Did you experience lag on froyo at all or is this a new thing?

I don't know if you're addressing the OP or me (probably OP), but I'll go ahead and tell ya I had rotation lag with a couple of different Froyo ROM flashes.
using the /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha I was always able to minimize the lag, though if I had a number of different home screens filled with apps it would still lag a bit more than a virgin ROM flash (not unexpected).
The "new thing" is that now there is no known fix for rotation lag*, which sucks.
* At least with CM7. The sensorcalibutil_yamaha fix may still work with stock-based ROMs in GB, I've just never tried any GB except for CM7.

I tried the /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha cmd with terminal emulator. Says the cmd is not found :-(
Bringing this thread back I guess, instead of making a new one. I'm having a big issue with 2-3 second rotation lag. Tried the upside down horizontal calibration and no go. Just throwing my hat in the ring in hopes that someone will find a fix.
There was a thread opened for the issue.

From the original thread:
* For other GB ROMs the fix should be basically the same, though I would recommend using the framework.jar from that specific ROM. (Maybe other, more experienced devs would like to shed some light on this topic? Would this framework.jar or flashable .zip be safe to try with other GB ROMs?)
So it may be usable...
Bumping this. Rotation lag is the most annoying issue with GB thus far

It might work it will break some things though, and he said the fix should be the same, meaning what he did should be the same to fix lag on other ROMs. Which it is.

Did not work for me...
Bumping this again. Praying that someone can make a fix for this issue. It is plaguing my experience. Otherwise it is outstanding. I repeatedly tried the upside down calibration and it has not worked.
The framework.jar from my rom has the fix. Take that file and then calibrate on a flat surface.

That's weird, I'm actually on your V4 ROM now. I could possibly reflash. Or I guess I could just drop that file over the old one, that's prob easier. Or maybe time to upgrade to V5 huh. Thanks for the response.

Ok so, wow. I dropped the same framework.jar I already had over the old one, and the calibration tool in settings> display works. Very weird. But someone should mark this as solved in case it needs to be done separate from flashing a ROM.

How to re-calibrate in ICS

Hello ppLs. I was flashing an ICS ROM. Using the paid Mobile Odin. I'm so happy that that exist that I had to pay for it.
Flashed the stock EL26 and let the phone try and boot. Eh... Don't know what it did, but of course it didn't boot. Stayed at Splash screen.
I finally got my ROM flashed and noticed that my phone would no longer rotate, but when I tried one of those sensor tester apps, the gyroscope was fine.
I just needed to recalibrate. I found out to recalibrate in ICS, you have to flash to GB and re-calibrate it there. It's in Settings -> Display. LoL!! Lyk really? Display?
After that it worked. So just making this so if someone searches they'll be able to find it. I couldn't find anything. Though I don't think putting it in general will help much. =.P
I feel so minuscule. This is all the help I can give for help. I'll keep buying donation versions of apps. =.P
First you can't boot with a GB kernel on a ICS rom.
Second (apply if you are on a ROM based on stock ICS and some other have it in different place) to recalibrate gyroscope, it's in same place as Gingerbread, MenĂº, settings, display at the end.
Good day sir.

Yea, I found that out, the whole booting thing. Secondly, running AOKP and I don't see the option to Calibrate at all. It's not there. And that technique I did to calibrate the phone worked while I was in Gingerbread. When I came back to AOKP, my phone isn't auto-rotating, but the sensors work when I test them.
'bout to move to the Q&A

Soft keys not working

I'm on Aerovan's most recent (8/22, I think?) build of CM9. It's been much more stable than previous builds from him, but I have a problem. It's happened on his builds, as well as the leak RUU and Black Ice AOKP.
My soft keys just stop working. Not the back light, as some people have complained about. I mean all four of them. No home, no menu, no back, and no search. I've worked around the no home by adding my launcher as a shortcut on the lock screen, but I'm sure you can imagine how frustrating that is. I know on some AOKP/AOSP builds you can add a navigation bar.
So my questions are:
1. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried rebooting, rebooting wit a battery pull... Nothing brings it back anymore.
2. If I flash from Aerovan to, say Black Ice, should I do a clean wipe? I'm never sure when I should do a full wipe and when I should do just a cache wipe.
Thanks!

It's a "feature" that I don't care for either. To restore the original functionality see this thread.
Edit...for your second question, I almost always do a full wipe, and especially if switching to a different rom. It does take a little longer, but usually pays for itself in the long run by having less problems.
Thanks, but the is a post about fixing a back light issue... My issue isn't about the back light, it's the soft keys themselves not working. I'm wondering if it's my phone, because it's done it across several ROMs...

Nvm... Yes sounds like it may be hardware if it persists in multiple roms.
I un-rooted back to stock (bootloader and ROM) and am still having the issue. Will be taking the phone back to Best Buy tomorrow for a replacement. Thanks for the help, though!

[Q] touchscreen sensitivity issues?

Hey everyone, I'm currently running CM10/SGT7 on my 1st gen KF and I've noticed that lately my touchscreen has been a little bit sensitive/imprecise. Noticed it first while trying to move some icons around on my homescreen, where when pressing and holding to move it would cause it to look like it was "shaking" even when just holding my finger steady over an icon. Previously on stock CM10, it would behave like it does on other Android devices (I also have a GNex), where holding your finger steady would cause it to "stick" to your finger, but with it still staying steady.
Very noticeable as well on games like NOVA 3, where trying to move and aim at the same time would suddenly cause the screen to spaz out and then suddenly I find myself looking in some random direction.
Any fixes?
Try setting the touch screen filter to a value like (40) or some set it at (70). It can be found under Settings > Advanced. If that doesnt help you might want to try reflashing the ROM.

Thanks. I'll try that. I'm on around 58 now, but no difference so far. I'll try bumping it up more. Does it mean that the higher the value, the less sensitive it is?
Do you mean reflash from a full wipe or just a dirty flash will do?

A full wipe should clear out any complications but you might want to ask about it in the Cm10/Linaro ROM thread (I guess lol) because it's related to the ROM/kernal and they are very knowledgable

You could test out a different ROM and see if you have the same results. Sometimes certain games will run correctly on one ROM and incorrectly on another. In reference to the weird twitching icons when you try to move them, you could always just try another launcher
I just reflashed the same ROM on my Kindle only minutes ago and everything is running smoothly. Which TWRP version are you using?
