Downgrading Gapps - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm having issues with VoiceSearch giving me FC's whenever I try to send a text with Google Voice or an email with Gmail.
It didn't do this running the last version of Gapps that I flashed with the first nightly of CM but now since installing the versions that were bundled with RC2 I'm getting FC's.
I saw one other user had this issue as well.
I tried removing VoiceSearch and re downloading it from the market, no dice. Tried re-flashing the new Gapps over what I have, didn't help. Tried re-flashing and then removing and re-installing VoiceSearch from market, didn't do it either. I'm about to flash back and I'm wondering if that will work.
I want to just flash the versions back to the last version and then try and rip out some of the APKs from the newest update and flash them. I also may try to do a total wipe with the next release, but I was kind of hoping to hold off on that until the CM6 final is out.

just flash an older version of gapps.
If you are having this problem with the 8/14 build that cyanogen posted with RC2, you may want to check the 8/17 build that is available now. I haven't used it yet, but it might have some sort of fix.

I think I've been using the 8/17 build. I'll take a look first though and make sure.

FYI... I just wiped clean, updated to the latest nightly and flashed the 8/17 and all seems well.
Thanks for the tip.

Just out of curiosity, when you removed the Voice Search apk, did you also delete its folder in /data/data/, and do "pm uninstall com.google.android.voicesearch" from adb shell/ConnectBot/Terminal Emulator?

No. Didn't think to do that.I'm still pretty new to Android.

New Market on Cm 6.1.1 Force Closes

So quick question, tried the new cm today, with google apps, and everytime I open the market, it force closes. I had originally flashed the new market on myns rls 4 and don't care which market I have, any ideas how to fix?

Which Gapps did you flash, and did you wipe data+cache before flashing to CM?
Yep and most recent that downloads with cm 611

I am having the same issue- each I just did a complete factory wipe of everything, flashed CM 6.1.1, then flashed the new 2.2.6 marketplace zip but it keeps force closing??
Well, nobody seems to have been able to reliably get the new Market on CM6. I managed to get it once, but completely forgot what files I used. I just remember that to get from 1.82 to a slightly higher version (1.86?) the ZIP included an updated lib file, which none of the new Market ZIPs have.

You are not alone in this. A lot of people and with different handsets are having the same issue. I have a myTouch 4G and the same problem.
I have a feeling its a problem with google and the android market in general.
I'm gonna try to flash a different gapps version
Flashed an outdated gapps version it worked

Everything started working again earlier today. Don't know what it was.
I had the same issues with CM7 Final, when the Market version updated to v2.3.6. I would have to try and install apps like five or six times to get them to install...annoying. I think it was the Market...but I flashed IncROM 1.6 and haven't had any issues, Market is 2.3.6...not sure?
I figured It out just flash the most recent outdated gapps even tho it says it for 2.3.2 it works with 2.3.3 I did that and everything works. Still rocking a dinc with cm7

get astro/linda file manager and enable browser download
This was an issue with earlier CM7 builds. Your sig suggests that you are running gingervillian, which is based of CM. Problem has been solved on later builds but would mean you changing roms

Umm...change up the XML files yourself?
Seriously, update your ROM. PyroMod is what GV 1.5 was, and I used to run GV on my phone. I'm currently testing the downloads by downloading the "wipe" version of my current ROM.

[Q] Updating To Cm-10.2-20130907-Nightly From Cm-10.1.2

Hi,
I was trying to update to the nightly version of CyanogenMod, so I went to the update part in the settings and selected the latest nightly. I want to update for the Google Voice integration with any app. Upon downloading and restarting the phone to apply the update, it was at the screen with this (bit.ly/1a9E9NF) and 'Samsung Galaxy S III' written on the top but wouldn't move past that. I was able to boot into recovery mode and I installed CM-10.1.2 (Stable) on a microSD and applied that update so I was able to take control of the phone again, however; I was not able to get the nightlies. Can anyone help with that?
On a different note, when I updated back to CM-10.1.2 (Stable) the Google Play store would not work and many Google Apps would crash, I fixed this by going back into recovery mode and re installing GApps, is that related at all?
Right now, I have everything exactly as I had it before trying to go to nightlies, my issue is how do I update to nightlies now? Did I do something incorrect?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S III AT&T - I747. This is where I downloaded the update to my microSD card: bit.ly/14KMExv
Thank You,

How do you personally flash ROMS? Flashing them wrong can cause issues. Do you wipe everything first and then flash the software? Your supposed to wipe in recovery data, cache, and dalvik cache in that order or at least that's what I do each time. It always works for me.

Well, I am only updating my ROM, not flashing a new one. So wiping my phone would be unnecessary and inconvenient. I've updated before but only to stable versions, this is the first time I've tried a nightly.

Nightlies are a totally different breed. Whenever I flash ROM. I wipe everything. Since the latest nightly is a different android version from the previous android version. I am highly recommending flashing clean not dirty. The GAPPs are different also. It might be inconvenient but flashing clean eliminates many issues.

Thanks for the response! I really don't want to do a factory reset so I guess I'll go to my second option. The only reason I really want the nightly is for the Google Voice to Stock SMS integration which was available in the July Nightlies, is there an archive to those nightlies. I've tried looking but have had no luck.
Thank You,

Here's a link to MSgtSimon's CyanogenMod d2att archive. I believe 0813 was the last 10.1 nightly (I had been running it for over a week without any major hiccups). You could also try 10.1.3-RC2 (I'm not sure how stable this is since I haven't used it) if you wanted the ROM to have the most recent patches.

The 0906 and 0907 CyanogenMod Nightlies were broken but today's (0908) is supposed to be fine.

Hopefully it will work for most; but i would stay away from nightlies for a couple of days just to be sure.

I'm running the latest nightly (0908) without any problems. I believe there was a problem with the online builder before. You can see that the nightlies for 0906 and 0907 (the two that didn't work) were only 184mb in size compared to the rest of the 10.2 ROMs that are 193mb in size.

Not Now, Google Play "App isn't installed."

Had not now working great on my first install. Hated the camera that was described as fast, decided to give the special install script a run for it's money and did a dirty flash while backing up apps, data, etc.
Tried out the Cyanogen Camera and it is much faster and more feature rich than the ones described as such but now google play isn't installed. When I used some of my old apps I got from google play they continually pop up with play services is missing.
I installed gapps from recovery after getting sick of this and it is still not installed for some reason.
Any suggestions besides a full wipe? I am confident a full wipe will fix it but I was hoping I was missing something in the install.
I'm a little confused.... Are you still on Not Now ROM?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Yeah, I am on Not Now. I did a dirty flash over my previous clean Not Now install and now google play is missing, even if I install gapps in recovery it says it is not installed.
Have you tried manually side-loading the apk? You can easily find it using Google
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Eh, all the sites I have been finding look sketchy as hell alongside not knowing which version I need.
I will just do a full wipe and if that doesn't fix it then the xblast or xposed are whats doing it.
Download any version and it should update to the latest by itself. I don't think xposed would affect it... I've run xposed and a million modules on different builds of gb27 and never had that happen.
I would just back everything up, sync and new contacts, and do a fresh install, performing a factory reset and flashing tdunham's JB Format All x2 zip before flashing the ROM. There can be issues with /Preload if it isn't being wiped
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I ended up doing a fresh install, it has a complete wipe and I did that on top of the format all x2 which is actually included in the installer.
Really was hoping it was a setting in the installer that I messed up but it doesn't seem to have been, dirty flash was the issue.
