Widget for switching gsm/wcdma - Desire General

Does anybody know where I can get a widget to switch between the two?

You wont find one. Its just not possible as Android doesnt permit that. Sorry mate...

Cheers

There is the 2G-3G Widget

I use "Network" by "Philipp Mangelow". It doesn't auto switch but it gives you quick access to the network settings so you can switch between the two (faster than navigating through menus I find).
I haven't tried the 2g-3g application from CurveFish, but last time I checked it recommended not using it with the Desire, may have changed now. Best of luck =D

I know, I saw that. It mentioned not to use it with the Droid too and that was my phone before I've just got the Desire.
I've used it with both and all seems well. Again, it just takes you straight to the setting as opposed to being a toggle switch. But its a shortcut nevertheless.
Not seen Network before, so will look at that. x

SwitchPro widget has this working with some ROMs - not all. I had it working on Eclair but not on FroYo.
The PowerControl widget in OpenDesire ROM allows this exactly. You might be able to install its APK and get it working. It has a 2G-3G toggle and a separate GPRS-HSPDA toggle. You can set mobile data to only be enabled if 3G is enabled too.
The CurveFish widget opens the cell settings menu for you to change between the two - not a widget toggle per se, yup.

The Power Control in CyanogenMOD does allow this, but presumably support for it has been specifically coded into the OS.

Changing clock to different time zone

How do i do this?
Im on vacation in vancouver, 4 hours difference from my home location. I cant find any way short of changing the default home time through settings. On winmo sence ui, i was able to click the clock icon and simply choose a new location, i cant do that on the desire.
Thanks
Anyone?
Have you tried changing the 'Set Time Zone' setting in Menu > Settings > Date & time? Uncheck Automatic and manually set the time zone.
Also check out the 'TimeZone' app from the Marketplace.

Thanks Mas, i was trying to avoid doing it those ways because i thought there may have been a very simple way to switch between 2 time zones (home and visiting). It can be done in wimo sense ui but ive just found out that this is a feature of wimo and sense is just overlayed. I'll just change the time zone through settings. Thanks
Yah, WM has this feature and seems somewhat overlooked with Sense UI on Android. Maybe there is some type of app that will allow you to achieve the same thing with a different clock widget?
I will report back here if i can find something similar.

Stop tilt?

I've tried Google without any luck..so I'm guessing this is a no..but I'm trying to find an app that disables tilt in certain situations only. I know I can disable tilt thru the settings..but that disables tilt EVERYWHERE. I'm just looking to disable tilt on my homescreen..while still being able to tilt while browsing Interwebz and whatnot. Seems like it should be an easy enough function..considering BB's have an app for it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok 1 - Android is not BlackBerry. Not even on the same level as one another, so just get that out of your head.
Second off, wtf do you mean on your homescreen? Sense doesn't turn landscape unless you changed the Skin to one built with landscape. Just switch it to the stock HTC skin, problem solved, it never goes landscape unless you open the keyboard.
If you're not using Sense (CM 6.1 or something) check the settings, as it usually has a way to disable homescreen rotation in their own personal settings.
Try CM6. It has the option for a custom power control widget to be embedded into the statusbar. You can put a toggle for rotation too. You loose the sense home and widgets though, but imo stock > sense. Or you could try quickdesk and put a rotation toggle widget on it.

Orly? Android isn't Blackberry? Good to know.
So lets begin...in order to "hide" all the bunk apps because I wasn't rooted, flashed, s-offed etc yet (all the things necessary to remove said apps) I had to download Launcher Pro (which was highly recommended). As soon as this was done..then yes..I was no longer able to use stock Sense. So now..my homescreen always tilts on me..which bugs the **** outta me. Could I just go back to stock Sense? Sure I could..but I'd rather have what should be a basic app to allow me to pick and choose where and when I'd like my screen to tilt. And I've grown to like how my homescreen looks over the stock look. Yes..I can disable autotilt in the settings..but then I can't even tilt the screen into landscape for the browser. So maybe I'm missing something here that someone else can point out..

I am on a stock ROM myself still, but I know that Cyanogen has a lot of customisation options. I wonder if it's worth asking in the CM thread over on the G2 side (because the DZ one is dead) out whether that has options that might help you ?
You want to disable "rotation" all over your phone AND to be able to use the browser in Landscape mode.
If that is the only thing you want, you can set your browser to "landscape mode only"
Now if you have a longer list of requirements on what apps get permisions to rotate the screen etc, I think you may bigger problems

there was nothing offensive or said with an attitude in this post. it was only til you noobs came on here with misplaced android pride. he didnt compare berrys to droids. he simply said they have an app for it.
this is a great question. the tilt function seems almost too sensitive. it would be great to maybe tweak it somehow to make it so you really have to hold the phone sideways....instead of slightly tilt the phone. an app to block it in certain situations is good but i feel that id have to micro manage too much to specify every single situaiton id want tilt or not.
for the record... i'm am a die hard android user and his post did not push my buttons at all. this post is very useful.
ADW launcher has an option in system preferences for home screen orientation.
Just change it from auto to portrait, that's what I did.

Wow no one answered your question. Well here it is, when you are on the home screen hit the Menu - Behavior Settings and uncheck Enable Auto-Rotation.
That will disable auto rotation on the home screen. Now go into Settings - Display and make sure Auto-rotate screen is checked. This way you will be able to but your screen into landscape mode when surfing the web or using apps that auto rotate. Now if you want to be able to choose specific apps, that I have no knowledge of doing. Hope this helps.

Tasker (on the Market) can be set up to enable/disable auto-rotation on many different triggers, like when a certain app is launched. Plus it can do a lot more that that! Check it out I think it's well worth the money.

Awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to you sir. And btw..It wasn't as simple as just setting my browser settings to landscape because I also like to view texts and im's in landscape mode. It never even occurred to me to check the Launcher Pro settings..so thanks again for that

Excellent.
Glad I could help. I know I was having the same issue at one point in time and it was very annoying. I didn't want to give up on Launcher Pro because the widgets are awesome and it gave me "sense" on my stock android! If you haven't played with Launcher Pro Plus, you should give it a whirl. The widgets that are unlocked with it are definitely top notch.

This is the correct answer if using Launcher Pro, I'd assume it would be pretty similar for adw launcher too.

The crazy thing is I actually NEVER played with ADW, yet I keep hearing how really good it is. So good in fact, that some custom ROMS have it built in. Would you recommend it?

Not only those but what about the Friendstream widget? It is damn near an exact replica of the sense widget. I also like how when you use the picture frame widget, you can resize it. That feature is only available on LPP not LP.

Every time I try ADW I am always disappointed with the jerkiness/lack of smooth scrolling. I try it once every few months but never stuck with it.
Definitely Launcher Pro for me, smooth, customisable, practical,... who could ask for more?

Widget that actually switches between 2G and 3G

Is there a widget for the Defy that actually switches between 2G and 3G (to preserve power when its just laying on the table waiting for email) as opposed to bringing me to the network settings menu which seems to be the case for all I've used? Even better would be to get Widgetsoid to do so...
I use Extended Controls from the market which has this widget function.
Edit: widget just brings up network menu as you described. Sorry.

To my knowledge, this is not supported by Android, this, no widget can do it up to now.

+1 it's not supported by android
Then how come system settings can do it?
Didn't find a 2G/3G widget yet, but if you point an "activity" for Any Cut to "GSM/UMTS Options." I've renamed the shortcut to 2G/3G on my phone.
This launches the part of the network settings in which you can toggle 2G-only on and off.
It's not a direct toggle, but it takes only two taps to switch 3G off which is faster than navigating to settings>wireless&netwoks>mobile_networks>select_network. And with the Any Cut method you don't have to remember where to look in the settings menu, which is laid out in a very unlogical way.*
*) Really, why are Location&Security combined? Wouldn't Security&Privacy make more sense?

power widget

hey guys,is the such a mod as a power widget similar to the one already in the gingerbread widgets. i want one to go on my home menu so i can turn on/off data etc.
i no there is widgetzoid and there are small buttons in the settings menu, but is there a mod/add on like the stock one. there are aosp ones,is there sense ones?
Not much help but...
If i understand you correct there is a HTC widget called Mobile Network for this.
Add widget from home screen > Settings > Mobile Network.
No idea if this can be obtained as an individual widget for use across non-HTC devices.
I know I haven't been much help. LOL
Theres a flashable mod to get notification power widgets on sense 2.2 but not seen one for 2.3

adding to notification bar 3G on and off icon

Hi guys!
I wanted to know if it is possible to add to the notification bar some shortcuts one most important that i want to add is to turn on and off the 3G (internet) do you guys know if it is possible on stock version? and if it does require a ROM then which one?
with best regards.
There are several widgets available to turn off data or select edge speed only. My question is why? Smartphones become pretty useless without a connection or at least a connection that can provide data in a reliable manner.
There should be a few roms that allow this. Look for quick panel settings in op features. I know FreeGS3 has it.
I always keep data turned off unless I am using it. Significantly improves battery for me plus I have never liked the idea of so many system apps 'checking in' without my knowing.

Hi, thanks for the replies i downloaded the wigdet to turn on or off, but i was wondering if there is any way to add it to the status bar? Couldnt find any widget that adds it as a shortcut near the wifi sign.
