I´ve been searching trough internet the whole afternoon before posting, didnt find any similar.
I rooted and installed some custom roms some weeks ago. I made all the steps correctly and i got my customs roms always functional and with no problems at all.
Been using NextSense rom this last 3 weeks, all all went great. Today i decide to install the new update, 5.0 to 5.3. I did nothing special, wipe data, ext, dalvik etc and flash. As always it worked perfectly, made some calls etc. But during the afternoon i´ve lost my reception. I had all bars but seems people couldnt contact me.
Since I`ve noticed it been doing many experiments. Reflash again, reflash the radio, tried another rom (leedroid), but i cant get rid of the problem, it have different symptoms.
- After a full wipe + re flash radio (last one) + rom:
- I get bars, but cant call or receive calls nor SMS.
- I don't get bars at all
- Data connection sometimes work, some others no.
- Sometimes, after a reinstall, i get SMS of my prior lost calls, then I can make a call, only one, after that, even the bars are there, i can´t call anymore.
I´ve thought it was some kind of problem derived of Titanium Backup, but not restoring with titanium didn't help at all.
Only thing I did today, different to other days was:
adb shell
mount /system
mv /system/app/HtcLockScreen.apk /system/app/HtcLockScreen.bak
exit
To remove some lock screen i didn't want, don't think this have nothing to do, but i want to write down as much details as i remember.
Any ideas to bring back to life my little phone?
Same thing happened to me with nextsense 5.3, I am going try another ROM
Related
Just flashed to a new rom yesterday and now my phone is completely incapable of getting a signal.
I've flashed plenty of roms and they've all worked fine until flashing to a 21889 rom yesterday (firestormLeo v5.5). Not a single bar of service since. Text messages don't get received and no data either.
I reflashed, hard reset after the flash, updated the radio, flashed back to an older rom that worked, and hard reset again.
Nothing works! I now have a completely unusable phone (phone-wise). It completely works otherwise (music, sync to pc, wifi etc) although it does seem to get warmer than usual. I'm assuming that's because it's trying to grab a signal or something.
Anyone have any ideas on whats going on?
I would try flashing the original rom/radio that came with your device including removing the spl and seeing if that fixes it.
If that doesn't fix it, then you are all prepared for warranty service.
If it does fix it, then you can reflash your favourite rom and it should still work. But sometimes flashing an official rom can fix things. I know back with my Kaiser it was advised to always flash an official rom between switching from an unofficial to another unofficial.
thanks for the suggestion!
just did all that and now i'm on stock rom and removed spl but it still has zero signal/service.
i bought this tmo tp2 from craigslist so i'm not sure if i'm covered by warranty. where do i go to get this fixed? or am i screwed
anyone else have any idea whats going on?
I had a similar problem with you(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616426), and have been waiting for some reply since last night, though got none, but the problem disappeared on it's own.
I continuesly flashed and flashed official ROM's and Radio's, totally gave up at the end, charged the battery to 100%, removed battery and let it like that for 5 hours, did an hard reset, and well, working as well as new.
It's a T-Mobile version as well, though my problem was losing signal continuosly and asking for PIN again and again every 5-10 mins. HTC support offered me to use another SIM card today, since I asked what could I try last night, though I didn't have the need for it =)
A lot of roms do not come with a radio so you may have to get one and flash it. If you put stock rom back on make sure it has a radio as well. Make sure the radio matches the rom and the ril.dll is the right one.
I have not had the problem but have read about others flashing new roms and no signal only to find out they had to write a radio as well.
i'm certain i have the radio flashed on it and it isnt the problem.
just took the battery out and hoping it'll somehow fix itself in a few hours.
I would also recommend to flash the shipped stock rom. Go to htc's support/download page and download the rom they have for the t-mobile touch pro 2.
If that doesn't work, take it in for warranty with t-mobile. I purchased a used at&t tilt off craigslist and had an issue with it. Took it into at&t's device support center and they replaced it no questions asked.
Hi All,
I need help.
Sorry to make a new thread i just have no idea what else to do.
Yesterday my phone was having wierd reception issues.
I could not send/recieve sms', access the internet, no 3G at all. However i could still recieve calls.
I restarted the phone, still nothing. I checked teh APNs etc.
Everything was fine in terms of settings.
After having issues with OD 4.0.15 previously i decided to do a full wipe and re flash the rom. Turns out i only had OD 4.0.4 on my phone since i was using the online updater.
After formatting and flashing the phone with OD 4.0.4 i was able to recieve sms' and make calls but the phone seemed to be unresponsive and slow.
At that time i thought i would try and download a different ROM. I downloaded LeeDroid 2.1, did a full wipe and flashed the ROM. Now sms' and calls work, however the 3G is flakey.
The symptoms i am experiencing are:
Cannot download anything from Market. Can browse the market but cannot download anything. It just hangs at "starting download"
On first boot when setting up gmail account it will not connect. I have to check teh APNs then set it up again and it works.
Everything else taht requires 3g appears to be working. Browse the net etc.
I have done the following, not in any particular order.
Flashed 32.47.00.32_5.10.05.23
Flashed 32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2
Flashed 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
Flashed OD 4.0.15
Flashed OD 4.0.4
Flashed LeeDroid 2.1
Removed battery
Removed simcard
Tried another sim card
Formatted SD
Created a new EXT3 partition
Wiped dalvik cache
Wiped setting/cache
Im sure i have done other stuff but i forget now.
Please throw some ideas at me as i have no idea what to do now.
Cheers
Tristian
just to update this.
I have flashed another new ROM however i am still having these issues
Further testing shows that , 3G works fine when browsing etc however Market just does not work.
help?
Let me start by saying, I have searched all of the treads for my phone, and the ones suggested before posting a new one, with no luck. I also searched all over other sites for an answer, about 3 hours now, and still nothing that quite fits my problem..
I have a Verizon HTC Inc2
-running 2.3.4
-Virtuous Unity v2.39.0
The problem I keep running into is that whenever I flash a new rom, or do a factory reset with clockworkmod, I can never get my phone to send or recieve MMS. It always says, generic network failure. I have tried with the HTC messages app and handsent app, both failed. The data icon in the notification area usually does not even show activity. I tried wiping the cache several times, restarts, changing data and wifi settings but to no avail. Funny thing is, I can restore my phone to the first backup I made, Gingerbread 2.3.3, and then MMS works.
Any ideas as to what may be happening? I can give you any additional info you need or ask as well. I'm not a total noob, but I feel like one right now. I just can't figure this one out on my own. Thanks!

General Network Error is when the system returns an error stating that you have no connectivity to send a message or an MMS (at least from my experience w/ it). I have this issue a lot with any messaging on my end because of shoddy reception. Which other ROMs besides Virtuous are you flashing that are giving this error? I know for a fact the CM7 has been having a LOT of issues with data connectivity. The last ones I remember hearing about with working data is #79 (or was it #80, I can't remember) and #85 and for a few people, #92.
I do have plenty of reception, always around 2 to 3 bars. Sorry I worded that wrong in my post, Virtuous is the only and first rom I flashed. I did it because Verizon OTA updates kept freezing my phone and I would get the blue android with the !. What I meant was, even when I did a factory reset, my MMS wouldnt work. First time I got that error, I was able to use bootloader and make a backup of eberything, then did a factory reset/wipe data and thats when I first noticed MMS was not working. So I copied the backup to my laptop, did another factory reset and format SD card, then I copied the backup to my card again, and did a restore with that backup. I restored data, cache, system, and boot I believe, and everything was back to normal and MMS was working. Unfortunetly I kept getting the OTA updates and each time, same problem, so this morning I read on a forum that a custom rom would prevent OTA updates, so I flashed Virtuous. I just found it odd that a normal factory reset, with no custom rom, would prevent MMS.
One more thing, not sure if its related, but I keep recieving messages from #6250 that say "VZWNMN: 1." Google searched that, most responses in forums are people saying they get the same thing and that Verizon told them they know nothing about it..
Have you tried a different radio?

People on CM were complaining of the same exact issue. They'd get bars of reception but MMS was just broken. I was just stating that when I try to send a message thru verizon and not google voice, I often get the same error message you're getting, which means that the data is being prevented from going out. I probably should've clarified that a little better lol. When you installed Virtuous, did you do a wipe data/cache and a wipe dalvik cache?
Also, if you restore back to your Gingerbread 2.3.3 that's rooted and your MMS is working fine there, then I don't believe it could be your radio. A possibility would be the kernel, but I doubt that Virtuous would package a kernel that would crash the MMS function. And since it's any SMS/MMS app, that knocks out the possibility of it being application based. The only thing I can suggest, would be to test out another ROM. If you're looking for sense based roms, go for BAMF's (http://www.teambamf.net) or Newt's Incredible 2 HD (http://www.themikmik.com). If you're looking for an AOSP based rom, go for CM7 (found on ROM Manager or at http://www.cyanogenmod.com) or MIUI (ROM Manager again, or http://www.miuiandroid.com). If you want a hybrid, I would suggest Skyraider Zeus (http://www.teambamf.net) or Gingersense (it can be found in the development portion of XDA). Remember when you flash a rom for the very first time, I'm sure you know this already, but you need to backup your rom first and then wipe data/cache and wipe your dalvik cache. Not doing either wipe before installing a brand new rom for the first time can cause unforseen errors.
Ok I found the answer while actually looking for new radios, so thanks for the post! haha
For all you out there who might run into the same problem, this is the solution I found..
Instructions to fix MMS (by xelsewherex)
1.Go to the market and download apn backup and restore (Market Link APN B&R).
2.Create a folder on your sdcard named APNBackupRestore if it doesn't exist already.
3.Copy this file, ht tp://db.tt/9Ao5ErR, to APNBackupRestore folder (If you aren't doing this on desktop, hit menu now in xda and choose browser. File is an xml and your phone will not know what to do with it. Long press the link and use 'save link'). This is an XML doc, sorry but since I'm new I can't just post a link, just remove the spaces between ht and tp.
4.Run APN Backup Restore and press Delete Apns and then Restore from the downloaded file.
5.You should be good to go from there. MMS should now work and the softkey lights do as well.
Received the OTA notification on my Verizon GNex yesterday. To make a long story short, as you can probably already guess, I can't turn bluetooth on. Not at all. I revert back to 4.1.1, BT works fine. Push the update from totally stock a second time, and still no BT. Tried it with and without unlock/root privileges.
Ive seen this is a common issue, but there doesnt seem to be a definitive answer on how to actually fix it. Some people have success with a reflash, some people mess with permissions, etc Nothing that Ive tied has worked.
(I am on the 4th reflash at this point, not even caring about my old data)
(really tired of this mtp garbage too)
Who has ideas??
(sorry, wrong forum - requested move)
edit
After 6 attempts of different combinations of roms and radios, I quit. Installed mwalt's mostly stock custom rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176954) and everything is fine. No idea what the problem is...
DON'T PANIC!
I own two Verizon note 4 devices. You could call me a flash-a-holic. I love this stuff and really love my Note 4. It's the best phone I've ever seen with great features that many newer ones do not have. However, you already know that ... so I'll dispense with the speech. Before any of you think I'm new to this stuff, I should say I've been flashing devices since 2005 with my old Windows Mobile devices. I also manage a total of seven Note 4 devices from Verizon, five of which are on my own plan. My neighbor has the other two because they loved mine so much.
Recently, I've been playing around with some of the International ROMS, particularly the Note 7 and S8 ports in the Snapdragon section. I really love those for the scrolling snapshots and S8 launcher (even though I use Nova on my daily device). However, after flashing so many of those and having to use a variety of data fixes to get 4G working, I seemed to have messed up my device. I was having really odd issues, like going from 1X, 3G, 4G, to disabled for several minutes before it would settle and finally connect. I also had issues with text messaging. It would work fine, for a while. Then it stopped receiving messages, but I could still send. I messed with APN settings, which didn't help. I flashed more data fixes and APN fixes I found. Nothing really fixed it. So I figured it was the SIM card. I went to Verizon and admitted it was a custom ROM, but he could see that obviously. He gave me a new SIM card, yet I still had the same trouble. After a reboot, it wouldn't settle on a connection for about three minutes, sometimes more. I still was unable to receive text messages (including MMS) on that device. Even a Nandroid backup did not fix the problem.
Here's what I did to fix it.
I decided it was probably best for me to restore back to stock and go through the rooting process again. Ugh... but I love my phones. I'd do anything to keep them going. Instead of using ODIN to restore back to the original stock, I used the Safe Upgrade for 6.0.1 found below. It's been fixed so it does not lock the bootloader again, but restores everything else to stock, but you get to keep TWRP recovery.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...firmware-safe-upgrade-to-marshmallow-t3402727
I let it boot and go through the process (without signing into anything). Immediately, I realized that my data/4G problems went away. It never flickered even once. I let it sit for 15 minutes once it finished it's initial setup and rebooted back into RECOVERY to flash Kevin's Flashpoint kernel. That gave me root again with Magisk. After a full reboot, I then went into DOWNLOAD MODE and flashed the newest modem (CQI2) using ODIN. Then it was time to settle on a ROM for my use. This time I decided to go back to another International ROM and it appears I'm good to go. Just remember, the Verizon Voicemail app won't be included and usually won't work with an International ROM. I've tried and only was able to get it to work on one of them. It runs, but just will not connect to Verizon properly to access your voicemail. I'd love to find a real fix for that.
Ah... it's good to be working again. Now I can use Titanium Backup to restore my apps and data. BUT I DO NOT RECOMMEND RESTORING SYSTEM DATA. It can only cause problems.
Just a few suggestions for anyone having issues. ALWAYS keep several files on your PC/Device for this type of recovery.
1. Keep the Safe Upgrade to Marshmallow 6.0.1. image. It will be your lifesaver in case something goes wrong.
2. Keep a good working kernel (of your choosing). I prefer @kevintm78 Flashpoint Kernel. It restores Magisk v14 and almost always passes SafetyNet. I keep both stock and port versions on hand (just in case).
3. Keep a good ROM or two (also of your choosing) in order to reinstall a ROM you prefer to use.
4. Keep a working data fix to flash if you're using one of the ported ROMs. Not all are created equal, nor the same at all. Not all of them work. I recommend the Aurora N7 Data fix (Alpha 5 for my N910V): https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69066109&postcount=2681
5. Keep the latest version of ODIN around. You'll need it from time to time.
Last but not least ... try this fix before you start blowing up the forums with questions and complaints about problems you have. I've found that most of the odd problems people experience are caused by using Titanium Backup to restore system settings created from another ROM, or trying to add different mods, which cause issues. Don't blame the developer for issues that you have that no one else has reported. Most likely, it has nothing to do with their software. It's probably something you installed or restored from a previous backup. You can let those old text messages and phone history go.
If you use Titanium Backup, only store system data IF you are using the exact same ROM as before. Otherwise you will experience problems.
I was sure my Note 4 was ready for disposal after the cellular issues I was experiencing. However I'm happy to report it's good as gold now. I'm not sure how much longer these devices will work for us, but I'll never freely get rid of mine. Besides, who else can fix the TV in the bar when the bartender loses the remote? Not very many devices these days have IR Blasters installed. I've used mine at least a hundred times for that very reason. But that's only one reason for loving this device. I could go on, but you already know that Samsung made the best device with the Note 4 models.
I hope this info helps anyone having problems after flashing so many different ROMs. I know, it's hard to settle on only one. Happy flashing and remember ... DON'T PANIC!
