Hey guys I'm trying to flash Amon RA v 1.8 on my phone, put it in the root of my sdcard opened terminal emulator and typed su, but it said 'permission denied'
my phone is rooted, i have superuser permissions under my apps, i was able to use set cpu, i dont understand whats wrong, suggestions?
Sounds like you may be rooted but not Nand unlocked. You should give more information as to what method you did to achieve root, what hboot, etc...
one person told me the same and that i needed the PC36IMG zip file and that i would be good. my method of rooting was installing the hboot drivers and then using unrevoked.
i booted in recovery with clockwork and did a NAND backup assuming then that NAND was unlocked lol but i guess not so i tried doing some research into the NAND unlocking and i have no idea what this adb shell thing is, is this the problem though with flashing amon RA?
Try giving terminal emulator su permission. Tap supermissions apk and enable terminal emulator.
if you mean go to the superuser permission app and check whats allowed/denied terminal emulator isnt there, only wifi tethering set cpu and titanium backup are there

In terminal emulator settings check start as root, then restart it, and then when supermissions prompts you give terminal emulator root privilege.
there's no setting like that in terminal emulator, i do have another app called 'better terminal emulator', checked those settings and it had the setting you were talking about, but even when i checked that, superuser permissions didnt ask me to allow/deny better terminal emulator

Within Better terminal emulator, try the su command.
I used better terminal emulator (bte) to install Amon_Ra's 1.8 and it is in the super user permission white list.
Grrrrr ... I am not sure what happened ...
I was integrating some app updates into my ROM (Gmail, Market).
Cleared settings, dalvik cache, ...
Reboots fine, etc. All looked fine. New Gmail and Market came up.
But ... now suddenly ... setCPU can't seem to get root access any more ???
It says: "setCPU could not obtain root access. Did you allow setCPU through Superuser permissions? If you checked Superuser permissions and SetCPU still cannot get root, there may be a permission problem with your ROM".
Grrr ... my ROM (stock Froyo Sense) has been rooted from day 1 ... and all was working very fine (2 months now).
Any idea why this is now happening?
When I run SuperUser Permissions, it just shows a black screen (previously I am pretty sure that setCPU, Titanium, .. were listed).
Help ... please ...
p.s.
When I do:
> adb shell
# whoami
-> root
# busybox whoami
-> whoami: unknown uid 0
Grrr. Gave up looking for the cause of the problem. Just re-installed from backup and everything back to normal now.
after permroot i did factory reset and then the visionary app and superuser app went away. now even after reinstalling both of them my proxy app doesnt work , it gives an error saying failed to start redirect.sh (permission denied) . now is my DHD still rooted or not , if it is still rooted then how can i make the proxy app work ?
thanks
try to root using visionary again, if you are rooted at the moment simply nothing will happen if you use it
Edit; You shouldn't have lost root by factory reset alone, but stranger things have happened. Not sure about the proxy app.
DL Superuser again (or as suggested/implied), reintall the Visionary will install Superuser as well.
Certain apps need required SU permissions from Superuser. When prompted by Superuser, grant SU rights to that app you are running.
Alternatively;
1. DL & install Superuser & Terminal Emulator from the Market
2. Run Terminal emulator
3. Type "su"
4. When prompted give superuser rights
5. Terminal Emulator prompt will change to "#" if you still have root
Edit: If you still have root & Superuser permission for the proxy app, try reboot in CWM Recovery & "fix permissions". You can do from within ROM Manager, but I prefer to do in CWM Recovery when the phone hasn't booted the partitions.
Make a backup in CWM Recovery prior to doing anything.
Just sharing.. once I accidentally denied the permission to root access for one app and the setting was to remember it. It took me a while before I realized this and change it in superuser setting.
i tried the terminal emulator and after typing su it said permission denied , and yeah my titanium backup isnt working coz it says dat it needs root now.
Yep, you lost root.
Try visionary again, and make sure superuser rights are given when asked by superuser.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
hi

I'm having trouble with setcpu. When I reboot my phone superuser does not give setcpu superuesr permissions. It says they are denied at the start of reboot. If I go and open the widget it will then allow the permissions. This never happened on my evo. I went to superuser app and setcpu is set to "allow". Can anyone please help me with this if you have any info. I'm using midnight rom 2.0.
Maybe you could try CPU Master Free, see if that will retain permissions.
