[Q] Default selection on USB plug-in - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to change the default selection when plugging in the USB? Right now if I plug it in and don't select any of the 5 selections it defaults to trying to connect to htc sync. I'd prefer the default be charge only.....any help? thx

[Q] Internet pass-through troubles

Heres the situation:
I'd like to use my computer's internet connection. So I plug in my phone and select USB internet pass-through in the popup dialog. The problem is that after about a minute or two it fails, with a popup saying that either I don't have HTC Sync installed or another phone is using it, whereas none of it is true. I do have the very latest of HTC Sync and driver installed.
I am running Vista (Home Premium) and using a USB 3G Modem. The phone is stock HTC Desire Z (EU).
Please bear in mind that I just don't have any other way to connect my phone to the computer or the internet other than the way I am trying. Also I don't want to root the phone. Not yet.
I have tried:
Installing HTC Sync & drivers through "Run as administrator".
While the phone was trying to activate the mode I tried reseting the local area connection (this shows up when you select the mode) - worked for a while, kept disconnecting me every few minutes.
I first activated the internet passthrough (somehow it activated) then connected the usb 3g modem - this worked it didn't disconnect me, but after a restart (the next day) none of the above worked. The phone seemed to be confused because in the wireless & networks it said that "connect to a pc through usb, please" - acted like its not connected at all.
I know that the phone should be ok, because at work (WinXP) it enables in a few seconds - although cannot use internet bec. android does not support proxies.
The passthrough service is running.
I have disabled the firewall.
Any ideas would be very welcome..
1.Right click on the network icon in the task bar
2.Click on Open network connections
3. There would be two local are connections. Find out your HTC mobiles connection.
4.Right Click and select properties.
5. select Internet TCP/IP and click on properties
6. Select Obtain an IP adress automatically

xperia connectivity settings

I have a question for everyone,
I just found out our xperia has a wifi transfer option and it works great.
it's under xperia connectivity, then usb connectivity. leave the usb connected and set up wifi settings.
here's my question, is there a way to add this to a shortcut or widget so we dont have to go through the menu to connect to other computers?
Thanks

Default USB connection type

Can the default connection for plugging into your computer be set to "File Transfer" mode? My device always registers as "charging only" and has to be changed in the USB pull down window.
That is a security feature of MM so no, you cannot change it.
In Developer Option, you can change the default to MTP but it's still going to show Charging default on connection to PC via USB.

Fire TV (gen 1) can't change settings under ethernet connection

I have an original AFTV gen 1 running the latest (end of Aug) software.
I have it connected via an ethernet cable, but need to change the DNS sever settings.
If I go under Settings/Network it shows the ethernet connection and it lets me go through the settings and I can enter the changes (new DNS settings) that I want. At the end it lets you press the "play" button to save and it looks like it works.
But when you go back to look at the connection the changes are not saved or applied - I have tried this repeated times - but no luck.
There is an option to 'forget' the connection. However it doesnt appear you can remove the ethernet connection.
I disconnected the ethernet cable and the device switches to wifi - I managed to set up a wifi connection and specify my custom DNS entries, but would really prefer it to be using the ethernet connection because its usually more responsive.
I had thought about doing a full factory restore, but dont really want to have to set all my apps up again - and there is no guarantee that it will let me change the DNS settings anyway.
Anyone got any good ideas or suggestions?

LineageOS 16 USB Preferences

Settings -> USB Preferences
I set this to 'File Transfer'. However, every time I unplug the USB cable, it reverts back to 'No data transfer'. Never seen this before on other Android images; the preference always remains set.
Is there a way to make this setting stick, or is this a bug?

The only options found here refer to Bluetooth options. There is nothing there regarding USB; which is odd...
OK, wait... Did not realize you had to tap on the entry to expose the options. Now I see. Thank you.
