I'm not a big fan of cases, they're bulky and detract from the style of the device. I'm usually mindful of how I handle my devices so drops are few and far in between. I usually skin my devices just for that millimeter of scratch protection they afford.

I've used InvisibleShield on my iPhone 3g and Blackberry Bold and really didn't like it. They have a tacky feel to them but the texture is not really as smooth as I like. While the tacky feel is ok on the back side of the device, since they do provide a level of security from slippage. On a touch screen, that extra bit of friction you're fighting with takes some getting used to.
When I got the iPhone 3GS a year ago, I decided to try out Best Skins Ever. I ordered their one piece total body skin. Since it's one piece, I found installation and coverage to be much better than the InvisibleShield. Plus less seams to snag on your pants when you're moving the phone from your pocket. The material is not as durable as the InvisibleShield. I seems to scratch pretty easily, but scratches are pretty hard to see. These skins are much smoother in appearance than the InvisibleShields I've used in the past.
Since buying the Captivate (bought on the release date) I've yet to see any type of accessories besides the junk (cases) they sell at the AT&T store. It also saddens me to see the Droid Incredible, Droid X, and Evo 4G with skins on bestskinsever.com, but not a single sighting for the Captivate. Then again, I've seen the people that carry those devices and maybe they just know that market is prone to launching their phones at the sight of Justin Beiber. We Captivate users are so much more sophisticated... am I right folks?
Anyway, I signed up for that iPad giveaway on their site (I haven't won yet, hello Zagg, hook me up!) and received a 50% coupon code. I searched their site and saw they actually have a skin for the Captivate so I decided to get them another try. Installation was straight forward, since I've done about 5 devices before, it was really more of the same.
Same texture (wavy) and feel (tacky) as felt before, which is to say at least I feel protected. One interesting note is it really makes the faux carbon fiber on the back plate look darker and actually more "carbon fibery" looking (lacquer over carbon fiber). You can probably see from the pics, the cut on the skin isn't perfectly aligned on the back plate where it says "Galaxy S", so the skin is a bit raised there. Can't wait until all the lint gets packed up in there because I'm too lazy to trim that piece.
good read.. i'm starting to feel glad i bought me some phantomskinz, though i wonder if it's better than the sgp's
junk cases? i got myself the black body glove and i love it. It's rubber but has a somewhat of a solid feel to it. A lot of the stores however say they carry it, but they never have it in stock at the DFW area. But then again it's all opinions. Have that case with the zagg screen protector.
I got the bodyglove and it is worth every penny.
Fits tight, thickens the phone and adds a bit of weight, both which are needed for grip and anti-dropi-ness. The phone was so light before it felt like it was going to squirt out of my hand.
Sure, I may have had to try every AT&T store in San Jose, Mtn View, Sunnyvale, Gilroy, Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks, Sherman Oaks, Culver City, Beverly hills, and finally found the last one in California at the Santa Monica store (one left).
Totally worth it.

I've seen the case in person, it's not junk, but I'm just not digging that design on the back. If it were soft touch or just smooth I'd like it better. I've had cases on my phones before, it's not like I fear them. It just when I take the phone out of the case, I always get this feeling like this is how it should be.
Also, after a month in release, why are cases (or any accessory) for the Captivate so scarce? It really looks like a lot of you guys had to work to find that Body Glove case.
i bought the body glove (black ) gel skin and i love it. had to go to 5 different stores before i found it but it's worth the 24.99 att sells it for. All i need now is a screen protector and i'm good.
I bought the 6 dollar black soft shell case from mrhit as a cheap temp case until something else comes out but this case is much better than I thought it would be and I am planning on sticking with it now. I originally bought the gadgetguard screen protector and was never happy with it. Just got the Realook one today and can't believe the difference. My recommendations.

My kids love watching movies on my wife's phone and have dropped it a few times, but luckily no scratches or dents yet. Since there weren't many choices locally, I decided to get the "Black Silicone Case" from Amazon since it was around $4 shipped.
It shipped from Van Nuys, CA and took three days... which is a little odd because I'm in Hollywood, CA which is about 10 miles away... Thanks USPS!
The case is pretty thick and seems like it'll take a few drops. It's on par with other silicone cases in terms of feel. The fit is good, nice and tight, and ports all line up.

hows the quality?
I got the black Amzer jelly case from Amazon. IMHO the quality is perfect.
I got this one because it has the textured grip feel on the sides and because the corners are thicker. I figure that thicker corners would do better at shock isolation.
It's pretty good quality. The only other silicone case I've had some time with was for the Blackberry Bold and it was Blackberry branded. I'd say they're the same. I'd say it's the same as the Amzer one but a lot cheaper. I'm not a big fan of the Amzer cases because of the design on the silicone and their hard case having the extra material at the top, with hole for the sensors, it's bit tacky looking.
is it bendable or pretty stiff?

It's really soft, the edges around the screen give pretty easily. It's not soft to the point where the phone is going to pop right out, there's enough of a lip around the screen to keep that from happening. It's tight all the way around so the phone doesn't move around in it. Seriously though if you don't like it, you're only out $4. That was my reasoning anyway.
good point thanks! nice to have people give their reviews and deals on things

Black Silicone Case / Skin / Cover for Samsung Captivate SGH-I897
i went to a mall kiosk today and put my phone inside one of these and it is really slick... the lady seemed irritated that I didn't want to purchase it. feels like a dry-ish dolphin
The case I got was the opposite, it's pretty damn sticky... like sticks to your pant pockets or the inside pocket inside my wife's purse. Also picks up a ton of lint, dust, etc. I'm starting to dislike it...
^^^ I just received mine yesterday. I would have to agree with you on the lint part.
For $4 and change, I won't complain. This will have to do until I find a good hard shell.

Picked up one of this as well. I can't really complain for the price. It is a little sticky, but i'm not carrying this in my pocket much.

I got mine today. Great quality. It was exactly what I needed
I just ordered the set with the case, charger, and screen protector. Like kkeo and whitesedan I don't like the fact that it's pretty sticky and picks up lint pretty bad since I keep it in my top shirt pocket at work. I also don't like the seam where it's molded together. I'll need to take a razor to it so I can smooth it out. But then again for $6.19 shipped that's pretty good. It fit's perfect I just don't like how sticky it is. I'm still looking around for a case to replace it but this one works pretty good for the cost.
I have this same one and it's pretty good, a bit sticky though. The grip however in your hand is great, actually take photos better now because it grips so well. It's soft and easy to take off when I need to change the battery, (I bought this ebay $10 charger and dual extra batteries deal).

Has anyone seen the new leather case from Samsung...
and if anyone has it care to share about your experience?
ET-I897PCFBSHC is the product number on samsung website.
Oh wow... that looks nice. It looks like it might be too thick though....
you think it will be too thick?
hhmmm... i think it will be the same thickness as the other snap ons from samsung.
It looks like might be thinner than the previous snap on case which most owners hate.
I'm going to buy it... I need a case anyways.
Ill post a review once i get it in.
I'm considering trying one out too.
Also, stating that it is likely about as thick as other snap-on cases is about as meaningful to me as saying a hippo doesn't weigh quite as much as an elephant. I went with a TPU case originally because all snap-on cases are just too thick, however this leather one looks too nice to pass up.
I'm still somewhat hesitant though because it looks very conducive to gathering dirt and dust and being detrimental to the phone like the Body Glove, but even worse with that extra hole in the back (which I really wish wasn't there; the less branding I have to see on the phone, the better).

Haha again with the Body Glove negativity! The Body Glove case doesn't scratch the phone and it is in no way detrimental. Not to mention it is easy to grip because of the textured backing. The Samsung leather case looks sharp, though leather down here in the Texas elements wouldn't do so well :/

You're Welcome.
too late... i bought it when i posted it...
i used the summer2010 for 10% off though...
thanks for the info.
im sure someone will use it after i give my review.
Case hasn't come in yet, sixk?
Purchased. I have an invisibleSHIELD cover on the entire body and hate it. I love it for the screen but the rest of the phone looks terrible with it.
Thanks for the 15% off code.
Sorry it came in but I was out of town for work with out my laptop.
Now for a review... sorry no pics.
Its mostly plastic and the its not that big but it does add alot of bulk.
The front part has little ripple patterns that might irritate your skin.
But the screen wont be impacted if dropped glass down.
I had my glass replaced 3 weeks ago after dropping it from around 3 feet.
ok back side
it looks nice... but if you look closely it looks cheap and leather doesnt feel like leather.
there are little indents in the leather
the metal looking parts are also plastic... so feels cheap....
it snaps on and fits nicely and hard to get off....
I havent been able to take it apart so I dont know about it being a dusty inside but it was layered with some fabric to stop it from scratching the back side.
...
hahaha while i was typing this i took it apart. no dust.
so thats pretty much it
final say is that if you want a good case that looks and performs like it should this is a good product if you look at it quickly or from afar haha.
havent really dropped it but im sure with the padding and being a light plastic it will take the impact for the phone.
good product but looks cheap and is alittle pricy.
I will try to upload photos but someone stole my D90 while I was on my business trip. >=/
I'm going to try this one out but the Otterbox case doesn't look terrible (if you don't mind the bulkiness).
Update:
I have been using this case for a few days now and it isn't so bad but it isn't great by any means. It fits securely and isn't much bulkier (if at all) than other hard cases on the market ATM. I do not really care for the plastic that tries to look like metal around the camera, speaker and galaxy S logo. It definitely helps with being able to grip the device.
OK... I got to drop the phone multiple times haha...
the case split opened and the back part of the case always stuck but the front part of the case went flying.
The case didnt stop it from being damaged...
My LCD is now all green.... yeay... and no I did not drop it on purpose... well after it turned green I did try it out couple more times on purpose.
But anyhow heads up... it doesn't protect the phone as I thought it might have. ^^
GL with the case though Gardener.
That sucks about your phone. Thanks for giving us a heads-up though.
one of my friend works at samsung parts department so they will be helping me out ^^
she said something about flashing my firmware... im not sure if she meant the one we just got from OTA/Kies mini or something only samsung employees have...
will give a heads up on that too.

Maybe she'll hook you up with the official Captivate Froyo update. That would be pretty sweet.
I know there have been reviews for the body glove before, but my father has a captivate as well so I took the opportunity to take some pictures with it next to mine for those of you interested in the amount of bulk it ads. While it adds a little bit of thickness and length, I prefer the feel of it compared to running bare. It feels more solid, and less prone to slip in the hand. As for the fit, it is tight enough that I have no fears of it coming off unless I need it to. The feel of the materials is very nice, and it slides in and out of pockets easily. I got one off of ebay for about $10 with shipping, so for that price it's amazing, but I gladly would have payed the $25 or $30 stores are charging. Highly recommended!

have the same case and I've dropped this phone so many times at the bar... bounces rite back... i swear by it too!
While I like my Mirage, I like the cheap ebay "Argyle" TPU sleeves much more, They are slightly slimmer than the Mirage and they fit slightly snugger. For $8.53 they are well worth it.
Just an update, dropped my captivate for the first time today. It fell out of my pocket about 3 feet face up onto concrete. Luckily I had the case on and there was no damage whatsoever. There doesnt even seem to be any indication of an impact on the case. I'm very happy I got it!
Got one for xmas, I love it. gives it a little more girth and easier to hold onto. not rubbery as its a hard rubber but it does provide a little grip.
I very much suggest it for a case.
I dropped my phone today on the street and the body glove protected it real good and nothing happened...It fits the phone perfectly and snug to protect it...Without the case I would imagine some real damage might have been done to the phone...it doesn't come with a screen protector so that also needs to be addressed as well to make sure your phone is really protected.
I got 1 for myself and my son from the att store the day i got 2 captivates and i must say after holding the captivate with the case i cannot use it without a case anymore because it just feels to thin/light weird heh.
The only thing i noticed with the body glove (bought mine "OEM" off ebay) is that fitting it over the top left a slight scuff on the corner(those that are visible only at a specific angle). It might just be how i put on the case although
Just wanted to say thanks for this review with the great pics. I just bought 2 of these cases (one for me, one for my wife). Both of us love them, definitely gives the phone a better, sturdier feel to it.

Ya my father has a silicone case and I know what you're talking about, its always covered in dirt and dust. There is really no problem of that with the bodyglove except for the occasional dust collecting in the usb port, but thats expected with any case.

Not if you close the USB port cover.
This was the first case I picked up when I got my Captivate in July. Since then I have gotten other cases by Seido and Otterbox but I always come back to this one. Has a more substantial feel to it and doesn't add much bulk. Very nice case.
I think this case is really good cause you have a lot of space to press the volume button and to slide the charging thing. Definitely a great case. Got mine for about 13-14 dollar on the internet.

How easy is it to get the phone in and out of this case? I often put my phone in a Samsung dock at night. I had one of those hard shell cases, but they are a ***** to open so I pitched it.

It's not to bad it's fairly flexible material but stiffer then silicone.
I had/have one of the Incipio cases and it's nice but a royal pain to get off and it's scratched like a hockey puck now. My wife bought the pink mirage case when we got our phones and I wish I had bought my mirage case sooner. Excellent case for the Cappy IMO.
So, I bought the Otter Box Commuter case first sometime last year and was satisfied, but the only thing that bothered me was the fact that it covers the hard buttons and I couldn't see what I was clicking at night and mind you, I just got my DROID X. Now, I can click buttons with my eyes close, lol. Then I searched online how a lot of people were giving good feedback about this Incipio Case and how affordable it was. I was sold for it, because I noticed how it didn't cover the hard buttons, which is what I was looking for.
I bought two Incipio cases off the site, one a black on black and the other a black on red case. It looked beautiful when I got them and tried them on, I liked the black on black more, looked more sleek and a look like the otterbox commuter but slimmer, but the black and red, the red is not as royal bright red as expected to be, as it shows on the site, but it was still a cool case and it was fun switching each other from time to me. The OtterBox was thrown back to its box and stopped using it for good. After a couple months, I noticed that the Incipio case comes off from each others layer and what I mean is that the Incipio case is a two layer case, one a soft rubbery layer and the other a hard shell that goes in the outside, kind of like the otterbox commuter. So, I noticed that it wouldn't stay fit after a while, but it was no biggie at that time, still loved it and was my favorite case. After a few months, the hard shell on the right bottom corner it cracked, and I hardly drop my phone but I think I drop it in the bathroom like a 3 feet high distance, but it was a small chip crack on the right bottom corner. So, I switched to my other extra one and both had the same problem, same place and all. After a while, it got worse, it broke and it look like a tear and then it came off on one of them, the other was still good just a small crack. So, I used the other one which was in better condition and here's the best story of this review:
After sitting in my couch, infront of the tv, I put my DROID X phone with the incipio case on-- on the arm rest of the couch and then suddenly it falls to the floor flat. I was doing a nandroid back up, so I just put it there temporary and I hardly drop my phone, I really try to take care of my phone. So, when I pick the phone up from the floor I looked at it and I didnt see anything cracked and was expecting that because I have it on a case and that's why I bought it for, for protection. But mind you, it was on Clockworkmod mode which the screen is black and the text is blue so once it booted to the home screen and i try to take a pic of my puppy. I see these black spots on the center of the screen like ink colored lines then after a while, it started to spread all over the screen horizontally. The screen is not cracked but i think the lcd screen inside is and it needs a replacement.
I was pissed off and called Incipio to see what they can do for me because I could have sworn they guaranteed protection of your phone. So, I called them and they said that unfortunately they don't cover the phone itself just if the case is cracked and their is nothing Inicipio can do for me. What a piece of garbage case this is, I thought to myself. Now, I have to buy the LCD screen online and look for a repair tech which they charge me to install it is $60 plus the cost of the part and Incipio won't give you credit for anything.
Incipio warranty: Compared to Otterbox's warranty is far beyond better than Incipio's, because with Otter Box (and I've experienced both warrantys and I have both cases) you just call in and they answer fast they ask you a few questions like your address where to ship the replacement at and what model is it and phone and then voila, a couple days in the mail you get you're case without even spending any money or time on sending the defective one. Now with Incipio, you have to fill out a form online, then you submit it until it gets approved. Once it's approved, you send yours back and you have to pay for the shipping charges, no prepad/return label here and then you have to wait until they sent you a new one 7-14 days after they have received yours. You'll be caseless.
My conclusion is, if you want an eye-candy, cute case and not concerned about protection, then go with incipio is all artificial and eye-candy. If you want a good strong case, but yet stylish and sleek, go with Commuter case. Incipio cases are vulnerable to break, crack, and more. Only thing of otterbox is, hard buttons are covered and i didnt like that but i got used to it. Commuter, it feels strong safe, secured a real good case. otterbox is way better than incipio, switching from otterbox commuter to incipio is a big downgrade.
Though Incipio's warranty is lifetime in incipio u have to fill out a form online and then wait to get approved compared to otterbox is quick fast and they do all that for u over the phone without u filling anything out n u sending the case and waste shipping

I am now selling two brand new sealed incipio case as soon as I get the replaced ones from them. I am selling them for $10 each, black/black and black/red or both for $20 shipped. On their site, is $13 and on ebay the lowest one is $22 each and up. I accept Paypal, you still would have the life time warranty through me by giving you the invoice/receipt that I got from them that I purchased from them, but all they ask the invoice number and date of purchase which i still have.

Your grammar is quite good, but the plural of punctuation is just punctuation.

I had the idea that for once I'd keep a device sleek and sexy vs throwing a huge case on it. Often I go on trips with the military and jump out of planes (it's not that crazy honestly). As long as you keep a device in a pocket with nothing else it usually doesn't get damaged. Pair up a nice slick case with a good screen protector and you're in business.
We went to a few stores including Best Buy Mobile, Best Buy, AT&T (corporate), Sprint (premier dealer), and those little kiosks in the mall. Of course the little kiosks had the cheaper than ever, eBay cases wrapped in plastic with "Made in China" stamped on them. These can be found for a few bucks on eBay, but they try to charge much higher prices because they can. I might as well note that in general cases are cheaper on eBay (even the premium ones). We found a healthy selection of cases at the mall including Casemate, Ballistic, Incipio (girlie color), and Belkin, but nothing from Otterbox was here yet.
The "Made in China" TPU cases didn't look too bad, but I opted for the name brand Belkin Shield Sheer case. This one is considered clear, but they also come in day glow, reflection, ruby, and black. They were pictured below in that order.
The case fits around the device really nicely. Just make sure you are careful if you have a screen protector on the device. You don't want the edges to pry up because your case is not overlapping the edges. It pushed up my ZAGG, however I shouldn't have installed it right after installing the InvisibleSHIELD. Now it's fine. I just used the squeegee to push the edges back down and make sure the case goes on over it.
I guess this case will keep the phone about as slim as it possibly can be while still being protected. Of course it will not offer as much protection as an Otterbox or the Ballistic cases.
MSRP: $24.99

nice video but im not dropping 25 bux on a tpu I got 3 from cruzerlite for that much :highfive:
Haha. Thanks!
I hear ya though. I hate having a new phone without any protection so I usually buy the first case retail.
Really I wanted an Otterbox. The cheap Chinese ones were even selling for this much in the mall. I think I mentioned that. I did get like a 7.49 discount because I bought an overpriced ZAGG from Best Buy at the same time.
Honestly, I find a majority of offerings from Belkin overpriced, no matter the accessory or phone they are paired with.
I got a Shield Sheer (clear) for my SGS3. I bought it from Best buy. I am very happy with it. 3 persons have already asked me where i bought my case. I guess the case is not just feels good and grips well but looks very pretty on my sgs3
topic says shield sheer, but your review is on grip sheer. ?????
i won this and the pocket case for free on a pinterest contest. definitely NOT worth 25.00 each.

Thanks! I'm embarrassed. I searched for it on Belkin's site that day, and this was the only thing I saw. Maybe I was in too much of a rush. Anyways I'll add pictures back up in a min.
EDIT: I think hardly any case is worth their MSRP in general.
