[Q] No Recovery image, odd SD card behaviour - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

*********POSSIBLE SOLUTION BELOW DESCRIPTION***********
Hello guys, I have been having some very weird behaviour with my Telus desire since it has been rooted and running some roms.
I rooted with Revoked3, and flashed the CM nightly 8/14/2010 to get my fastboot to read:
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.83.0001
RADIO-5.09.00.20
All was fine, until I tried to play some music off my SD card, but remembered the only "music" I had were the various notification/ringtone/alarm sounds, which went into shuffle mode and sort of froze, so I pulled the battery.
Well, now attempting to boot into my (Clockwork, SLCD) recovery just hangs at the white HTC screen (not the black recovery due to wrong SLCD recovery) and:
fastboot flash recovery Clockwork_recovery.img

Yeilds an error:

I thought I had a brick... however, I pulled the SD card AND SIM card and can boot into Cyanogen and get through to the main menu. Now I don't want to reboot and not be able to boot again! Without being able to boot with an SD OR SIM card, I seem to be up a creek.
What the hell happened!?
SHOCKING NEW DEVELOPMENTS: Well I also was able to fish around for a 256mb SD card to plug into it, but the ROM wont (cant?) mount it. I also reran unrevoked3, and it will not reboot. Great. I pulled the battery, and I am stuck at the white HTC logo and no recovery.
NEWEST DEVELOPMENTS: I was able to replace my SIM card, SD card and boot into Cyanogen. I can ADB from here, but what now? Am I stuck on Cyanogen Desire RC1? does it have to do with the BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON

[Q] Please Help! "cleared storage" now stuck.

Hello any help will be appreciated, sorry if there is another post already dealing with this issue.
I recently installed Virus Rom Kingdom Rev. .02 and it was running really slow. I restarted it through the power down feature, and now my phone would not boot past the "HTC EVO 4G" startup screen. I rebooted into recovery, however it kept kicking me out of the recovery and back to Fastboot. After some time of frustration, i "cleared storage". Now phone goes from "HTC EVO 4G" screen to a screen that flashes ANDROID slowly and does not go beyond that. How if at all can i recover from this issue.

Please help me,

Reflash RA recovery in fastboot, reinstall Rom
so do I place the RA Recovery file on my SD via computer, reinsert then run fastboot?
Affirmative, the pc36img.zip one, not the recovery.img
Place on the root of your sdcard, then boot into the bootloader, apply the update, reboot, reboot into recovery, and you'll be on amon_ra 2.3.
When I downloaded and put on root of SD card, it won't check for the update in bootloader. Any advice?

Did you rename it?
It doesn't do its normal scan?
No I didn't rename it. Should it be update.zip ?
No its not even checking for it now. It's weird.
Pull battery and hold volume down and power, there is a difference between the white fastboot screen and the hboot bootloader screen, although they do look very similar.
Once in fastboot, how do I get it to scan for update? It's not doing it automatically.
Nevermind, the SD card must have shifted. It's working now. Thank you for all your help.

[Q] Need help desperately! Evo stuck in boot loop. I've tried everything

I rooted my Evo a few months back. Everything worked fine for a while and then one day the phone restarted itself and never made it past the white evo boot screen.
Before saying anything else I've read through this forum and have tried many different steps to fix it.
I cannot access recovery through fastboot (it just boots to the white evo screen which it doesn't get past). I only have access to fastboot.
I have tried many times (and many different versions, stock, anon recovery etc.) loading a pc36img.zip onto the root of my sd card. It will go through the typical update process and when it finishes and I click reboot phone, it once again just gets stuck on the white evo screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have an SD card reader or a computer with a built in card reader, copy the contents of your SD card to a computer or external drive and then re-partition and re-format your SD card. Afterwards, copy a freshly downloaded version of amonRA v2.3 (the PC36IMG. zip) and the rom you'd like to flash. Turn off your device, pull the battery, wait one minute, re-attach the battery and then attempt to boot to the bootloader (Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the Power button until your device starts). Hopefully, the bootloader will properly detect the PC36IMG.zip and prompt you to install. If it does, follow the prompts to install. Afterwards, select recovery, wipe EVERYTHING in the wipeenu EXCEPT the SD card and then flash the rom.

Have you tried to flash a new ROM?
Thanks for the quick reply! I followed your steps. Reformatted my sd card loaded the amonRA v2.3 and the new rom onto the card. Booted in bootloader and ran the update. When it finished it asked if I wanted to reboot my phone, I selected no and tried to boot into recovery....same results. It's still stuck at the white boot screen.
Any other suggestions?
When I got stuck in boot loops, I just stuck the darn phone in a bowl of fruit loops.. worked for me. #justkidding
Did you unchecked fastboot box
After you reformatted the SD you need to make sure the rom zip is not corrupted.redownload rom
What type of rom are you trying to install, did you are partition the sd card.
When you installed the amron 2.3 did you delete the zip from the SD card after install...
Oh boy, haven't seen this on awhile....
Good luck...
This doesn't always work but is based on the last step before I order customers a replacement for boot failure on the Evo. Try flashing the 3.70 update zip then reboot the phone. If the phone boots properly then run the 3.70 RUU (this step helps reduce the chance of corrupt files). This gives you a S-OFF, unrooted ROM config on your phone. let the phone boot into the stock ROM agin and then double check your firmware's and pri as they may need updating again. From here the firmware/recovery/ROM flashing guides should get you back to where you want to be.

Turn off your device and then boot into the bootloader. Look at the top and make sure you're still S-OFF. When the menu appears on the left side of the screen, select recovery. It should work. If it does not work, do the following:
1. Download this particular RUU (PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2 .15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip) from HERE

SHA-1 Checksum: F3725824147B54F4ED917CB025FB5F693B17782B
1A. I don't know what radios you are using so you need to download the following radios from HERE
EVO_Radio_2.15.00.11.19
EVO_PRI_1.90_003
EVO_NV_1.90_003
2. Create a directory named amonRA on your SD card and place the PC36IMG.zip file that's already on your card into that folder.
3. Now rename the above mentioned RUU to PC36IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD card.
Just a quick note: I am assuming you have HBOOT 2.02/2.10. If so, proceed.
4. If you cannot get to recovery via the bootloader, you will have to use ADB. From a terminal window, type the below commands as-is.
adb shell (press enter)
reboot recovery (press enter)
5. Once in recovery, wipe everything in the wipe menu EXCEPT the SD card.
6. Flash the listed radios 1 by 1 in order
7. Shutdown your device and boot to the bootloader to flash the RUU.
NOTE: If you're successful in getting into recovery, you can opt to flash a different rom. It's your device and your choice.

[Q] another bricked phone thread; help needed

I've looked around for solutions as much as I could before posting
I've outlined everything I've done so far, not sure how much is relevant
Was running LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.1 before the phone became bricked
I rebooted the phone at one point, and the battery fell out during a reboot
Next time I rebooted it got to the ascii art android logo, onto a part with text on, and got stuck in a boot loop, the text had a progress part "so&so out of 2703kb" or something to that effect
(can't remember the text exactly)
After a few tries at rebooting it went to the home screen, however nothing loaded onto the home screen for 20 minutes, and the only function that worked was locking the screen, I couldn't turn it off or anything.
After this, everytime I booted it got stuck in a boot-loop on a splash screen of
"ANDROID" in silver writing
This is what I currently get when I boot my phone
When booted into recovery mode (hboot) I first get the message;
SD Checking...

Loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]

After I get this message I am free to go into fastboot and recovery menu
The PC recognises the phone in fastboot (I'm running windows 7)
I tried reflashing the leedroid rom straight from the recovery menu, didn't affect anything at all.
Went on to reformat sd card entirely.
Tried updating to the latest ruu, as there was no ruu that was exactly the same as mine, my phone was originally on virgin mobile and there were no ruu's with the same baseband
RUU used; RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
But the update fails part way through (after it reboots the phone) and gives
ERROR 131: CID ERROR
Rom update utility cannot update your phone at this time
Please get the correct rom update utility and try again

if you can go into recovery, try reflash the zip file again and let it do its job. your hboot is not screwed so it shall restart with a new flash. recommending you download oxygen and save it on your sdcard. due to its fastest to load and most stable.
Just FYI: bootloop is not any kind of brick, and you're not bricked either.
Just do full wipe and reflash the ROM.
If you want to go back stock, you will need goldcard when running RUU.

Did you do Full Wipe/Factory reset & dalvik cache wipe before flashing new ROM?
Do you have any partitions on SD card?

I wiped both
Yes, I partitioned it as instructed in the stickied noob guide
4GB partioned to 1GB of Ext3, the rest is FAT32. The partition is still there.
Probably something went wrong when you was creating ext partition, what i suggest is downloading this recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=661317&stc=1&d=1311251519 (md5sum zip: 170785457774834c7ae58e331d6f4ab4)
Put it onto your sdcard (root of SD, not in any folders), rename it to "PB99IMG.zip" and boot into bootloader.
It should ask if you want to update, choose yes.
Partition your SD in new recovery, it will also perfectly align it, try to flash with this should be good.

Didn't ask if it wanted to update
Text said loading image, A progress bar automatically appeared on the right, after it was done loading, it said 'checking image' then just went straight back into the bootloader
Are you sure you renamed file to PB99IMG.zip ? You can also try to rename it to PB99IMG (without extension)

Yep, just double checked and tried a few more times, redownloaded and tried again just to be sure.
When renamed without extension the phone didn't find it, renamed with .zip extension the phone seemed to recognise it, but stopped after saying "checking image"
If you are branded try to put in you gold card and then try...
btw.
What did you used to partition your SD card?

I'm just trying to create a gold card now (didn't know about them until after I flashed)
I used Gparted
You can also try to repartition in the recovery you have right now, might help who knows.
I'm crossing my fingers for the repartitioning from current recovery mode to work
because I'm not entirely sure on how to create a goldcard without being able to boot my phone normally
*edit*
Yes, that did indeed work
seems the file structure got fudged up when the battery fell out for a reboot
such a simple solution that I overlooked at the beginning sorry
Thanks for all your help
Create goldcard and bring your phone back to stock with the ruu you already wanted to use. With three goldcard you won't get the cid error.
Run unrevoked again, but this time you use a custom recovery:
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.21/reflash_package.exe
I can highly recommend rmd recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137763
Download the zip, extract it and check the md5 of the image.
Standard amonra recovery:
www.android-hilfe.de/attachments/ro...-0-0-14-11-2010-recovery-ra-desire-v2.0.1.zip
Configure your phone correctly for using unrevoked.
Start unrevoked>file>custom recovery>choose the downloaded recovery image.
Run unrevoked.
If successfully done, go into recovery and flash custom rom.
The one k3lcior provided cannot be used as long as one is not s-on. So you cannot use it.
@k3lcior: Take care of this when you tell people to flash this recovery.

HTC desire bravo stucks at Hboot

Hi All,
I got a problem with my HTC desire. Whenever i've tried to boot, it just goes under Hboot. When I try to get into recovery, the white screen with HTC logo appears and then just stucks right there. Is there anyway to solve it? Before that, I tried to mount sd card, but it say Error Mounting sd card and later I also tried to mount USB storage, but it didn't work. But now, I can't even go under recovery.
Flash a ruu in fastboot or reflash a recovery...

[Q] Can´t flash recovery - only black screen

Hi guys,
I´m pretty lost here. Up until a few days ago i was a happy Cyanogenmod user, for my HTC Desire (GSM). Suddenly it crashed and could not boot anymore.
I managed to put a RUU (i think it is) on my sd card and renamed it to PB99IMG.zip. Booting to Hboot, it detects the file and flashed the system with HTC Android 2.2, with Sense. This installation works fine, but i want Cyanogenmod again. (i´m currently traveling with very slow internet connections and i cant remember where i got the file).
Now i would like to flash it again with Cyanogenmod 7. I have the zip for that also on my SD card. When I entered recovery from the Hboot menu, it just showed the default recovery, asking for update.zip. I figured i should have a custom recovery, so I tried to flash the recovery.
I´ve tried multiple recovery images and methods;
Using Revolutionary, which detected S-OFF and asked to download CWM
Using ´fastboot flash recovery recovery.img´
Using 4EXT recovery zip and placed it on the sd card as PB99IMG.zip
For the fastboot commandline method i have tried Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 and the latest version (both default and touch), Amon_RA and 4EXT. Combined with a few ´fastboot erase cache´ and ´fastboot erase recovery´. With every method I get only success messages. When I Hboot the phone and choose recovery from the menu, it restarts, showing the white screen with green HTC letters, and direct after that only a black/blank screen. Pressing any button does not change it.

I really have no idea anymore what i could do to get Clockworkmod or any custom recovery image working.
What options have i got left?
try http://4ext.net/, download the app and it will flash 4ext recovery for you.
as strange as it sounds, also uninstall rom manager if you have it.
finally, to get the most out of cyanogen mod, you need to flash a different hboot, cm7r2 is probably best. this will repartition your nand layout to get more internal memory. flash the img via command line through fastboot.
then backup your sd, then partition it with 4ext recovery. you'll need an a2sd script, or an app like s2e to move apps to the partition automatically.
