OK background info: I am running Skyraider 2.5.2 with the Hydra Kernel #2 and 2.15 radio. That said, my phone was working fine this morning and all day really until I did this:
I hooked up my phone to my XBOX 360 so I could listen to some music on my home theater. The xbox was NOT detecting the portable drive, so I double checked it was set to 'disk drive' and I even turned of USB debugging in case that was an issue. Then my phone fades to black and suddenly I'm staring at the Unrevoked splash image. No problem, I figured. Wrong!
When it booted back up I slid over the lock screen button and the phone starts loading programs (ones that I dont normally see in the notification bar ie: startup manager) Then I'm hit with a barrage of Force Closes. Like a dozen of them. Pandora, SWype, and my beautiful widgets clock and weather are not loading on the homescreen either. I look in the apps directory and my apps2SD program is gone, just gone. It was there when I woke up this morning I do know that much.
So what the hell is going on? Does it have something to do with me plugging it into the Xbox, and why is my apps to sd program gone? Is that why a lot of prgrams are all FC. Also, Pandora was definitely on internal storage and NOT on the SD card.
I hadn't made a Nand backup in a little bit, so I can't do that.
What is the easiest way to get back to normal?
Do I have to go back to bare stock? Or can I just wipe everything and run Titanium?
Please, any suggestions would be immensely appreciated. Like I said it seems like this all happened right out of the blue.
ALso, whenj I start Astro File manger, the user agreement comes up like I've never used the program before, then it FC's and when I re-open it, it does the same thing with the user agreement even though I just f***** used it!

Yup, factory reset and then you can use Titanium to get back to where you were the last time you backed up.
you seriously tried to connect your phone to xbox 360 through a usb port and set to disk drive...
Yeah I didn't realize that would be a bad thing. Got just about everything back to normal now. Sorry for all the caps, but I was pissed. I hate having to redo all this crappy time after time. I'm sure ill be at it again when the ota rolls out this week.
So hooking up to xbox screws up Android phones? Who knew

That's not a bad idea, I just tried it with mine, and it worked fine. The 360 can play media (Video, Audio) off any USB storage, which is exactly what the Incredible presents when set to disk mode.
Mine is stock though.

hey
just a guess, but it got messed up b/c you had apps2sd enabled. I bet if you try it w/o it enabled, it will work just fine!
I believe that my problem was stemmed from a glitch in the apps2sd app. Someone else was using it and experienced the same problem.
Beware of that app.

i plug my phone into one of the usb ports on my desktop n it sees it for one second then go away. ive tried all the usb ports and get the same results. my computer at work sees the phone with no problem. n my comp sees my iphone with no problem along with anything else i plug into it. i am on Windows XP, what could be the problem??
Try installing HTC Sync drivers.
Yes what Jykinturah said. After that i would get options on how i wanted it connected to my pc. i.e. charge only, Hard disk , etc.
ive done that already, nothing works, maybe i need the drivers n my comp wont download them upon connecting the phone

one thing you might try is disabling sense and using the android launcher. then reset the phone. once it boots up try and connect it to your pc. This was how I got mine to connect. when I was using the sense launcher it somehow blocked that options screen and the default I selected wouldn't stick. once I got the connection to my pc working this way I was able to re-enable sense and it's worked perfectly ever since.

find HTC Sense and click on it, then hit the "clear defaults" button and now hit the home key. it'll offer you the choice of sense or Launcher. pick launcher and once that loads up go ahead restart the phone to clear any remnants of sense.
try selecting the mount as disk drive option hen you connect it to the computer. It should show up then under one of the disk drives.

Try rebooting into recovery and see if it works. If it doesn't its anything, if it does try backing up and using a fresh rom.
Mine was fixed by removing the short usb extender cable.

I have an stock EVO that will not connect to the HTC Sync program no matter what version of Sync I install. The Sync program doesn't see My EVO, nor does the device manager display it as an Andriod Device.
I have installed and tried both 2.0.35 & 2.0.40, neither will see the phone when plugged into computer. I also have PdaNet (purchased version) installed and that program allows me to wire tether on the same pc and same phone. I have also tried this on another pc with the same results. I am baffled.
My reason for this help is simple, I want to ROOT this EVO but with the Sync program not seeing My EVO when wired tethered, well, need I say more?
Anyone out there in Techno World, help pls.....

ok, will give that a shot, brb.

Ok, did as you suggested and now in my device manager i see:
Disc Drives>HTC-Android Phone USB Device
Will I now be able to have the ROOT program see my phone?
Are you running a sense rom? Sync will only work on sense, not aosp.

Thx Y'all, as you can see, My EVO is now rooted and lovin it. WiFi Tether working perfectly. Unrevoked3 worked flawlessly, sealessly and my hat is off to the Devs for their hard work. Glad it went well . . have fun . .
Actually, Huston, We Have a Problem.
An hour and 20 minutes after rooting, the EVO went completely dead sitting in its dock. I noticed it wasn't charging but it still had 42% left when I last checked it. Doubtful it could use that much juice in a 30 minute period. Now its completely dead and will not charge or boot. You'd think if something was to happen, it would have happened quickly and not wait. Its electric, its either on or off, no inbetween.
Strange because after I rooted it, I made calls with it, accessed the web and most important to me, wifi tethered my laptop and gtablet to it. It rebooted fine too..and all was working perfectly. I noticed that the root process used some power so I put it into its dock to charge it up and nothing. Tried to plug it directly into a USB2 and still nothing. Everything worked just minutes prior to it going dead.
I haven't a clue whats wrong except once I get home I'll put in a fully charged battery and see if it boots. If it does, next thing is to see if the battery will charge.
Any ideas?
Try the fresh battery and post back with update.

Will do, but that will be about 3 1/2 hours from now. Still at work.....
OK, it was the battery. Was so low it shut down phone. Plugged it into my home charger still in the phone and the charge light came on so I removed it, placed it in my dual charger and installed my spare battery and all is well.
Dohhhhhh!!
I've been looking for the past few hours and now I'm starting to get nervous --- i've read tons of threads with people having something like my problem and I've done everything suggested and still no luck, starting to freak out a bit haha. Hooked my phone up this morning, everything was as normal. Plug it in, USB option comes up, worked perfectly. The only thing I did with my phone was go on a long car ride and charged it using an adapter to a house charger. Im assuming that somehow that screwed it up since it was being converted. This sounds strange to me but its my only idea. I can't connect, the second I plug in my phone it starts to charge (and for some reason the light doesn't come on when it usually does).
Things I've tried =
-Reset phone/computer
-Reflashed latest Calks
-Tried 4 different cables (along with all computers USB ports)
-Reinstalled Samsung drivers
-Reflashed stock
-System restore of computer
--------
Other than completely wiping my phone of everything I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time.
Try booting on recovery and enable USB mount, if you still don't have access to the phone then very likely your USB port is damaged. This will discard any issues with the ROM
Another thing you could try is to get the phone to another computer, the computer should recognize it even without drivers if you enable USB storage mode or at the very least make the unknown device show up on the device manager. If it shows up then you know for sure your computer is the problem, if not, well then it is your phone.

I even went so far as to format my netbook and start fresh, still didn't work --- just got it set back up...
My girlfriend just got home with her computer and it's not recognizing it at all. When I go into settings>Wireless> USB Utilities, it doesn't even recognize that my cable is connected (even though its charging)
I didn't know there was anything like Force USB Mount in recovery so I'm going to do that right after I type this post
This is really frustrating :O haha so I guess if your suggestion doesn't work, whats the easiest way to un-root return to stock so I can stop by the Sprint store tomorrow? I talked to a rep that roots his phones and he said as long as it says Gingerbread 2.3.6 they'll take it back (I guess they don't look at the custom counter)
Any other suggestions? (Thanks fen)

Odd... so the phone popped on windows and then disconnected immediately? That would indicate that physically the port is fine but logically something is going on... (unless you moved the cable).
Well if that is the case then you could either try to diagnose the issue yourself OR try to get the phone replaced somehow.
Another idea... have your tried download mode?
Im on the same boat delete the drivers from your computer the actual usb drivers not the samsung ones that worked for me the update them again. I have a dv7 hp. It works at times but somethimes it says error connect to a high speed usb

I had this same issue (if I'm reading and understanding you correctly) for the last week and was at my wits end. No matter what I did or changed, I could not get my PC to recognize my phone all of a sudden. The USB connected notification just quit appearing. I installed and uninstalled drivers, installed and uninstalled different Keis versions, tried different cables, different computers..... Finally just as I was about to wipe and Odin the phone, I remembered I had changed the AP/CP setting in ##8878# when I did the PRL change and just maybe I forgot to change it back.......sure enough, that was it. I switched it back, connected phone to PC and bam!...all fixed.

Honestly I did so much tinkering last night that I don't remember exactly how i got it to do it. But after playing with the mounts in CWM, I eventually started up my phone and the USB logo came up in the Notif bar --- (MTP Inititaed - or whatever that is) but after clicking the icon nothing happened and eventually just went away

I am having the same issue. However, my phone is stock. Do you know what was the culprit?
Get insurance on it wait a few weeks, say you lost it and pay the $100 for the replacement. Keep the lost one for parts. Or sell it on ebay for parts. This is if you can't fully get back to stock.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I never did get a confirmation kn exactly what the problem was. As stated above i just deleted super user and flashed a stock everything and just prayed they wouldn't check for cwm which they didn't.
Im assuming my charging port burnt out. I used multiple different cables, including LG HTC stock Samsung and some Verizon one. But i think what finally did it was using the Verizon one in the car with a really old adapter. I don't understand why this would cause a problem but i really believe it did. That Verizon cable even acts weird with this new phone like it says charging but led light randomly turns on and off.
Im confused as to what happens to that old phone if you ever lose it. I lost a phone along time ago when I was drunk, but instead of claiming insurance i was eligible for upgrade. What possibly could have ended up happening with that old phone? Somebody found a paper weight? Or was somebody able to flash it and use it?
I guess the condensed version of my question is what happens to a found phone after device has been reported lost?

I'm experiencing a very annoying what seems common problem.
Where HTC locations loads itself automatically at random intervals.
I have looked all over the site for a fix but unable to find it.
Tried deleting the navigation folder from .data. cleaning usb socket. Resetting phone. Clearing all caches etc
I have also installed an app called "skip HTC locations" but hasn't and isn't doing a thing. Also notice its happening more and more when pluggging in my charger
But its still happening. And assistance is greatly appreciated

Its not a rooted phone so unable to uninstall i think ?
in applications i have both "locations" and "locations launcher"
only thing i can do is clear cache which i have done and on "locations" i can "uninstall updates" which i have also tried and problem is still there,
Just that when i have removed the updates, it still automatically starts up "htc locations" randomly and then asks me to download files.
Hmm yea It's not much to do when you are not rooted I think. =\

Same problem here, did you manage to fix it?
I had the same problem yesterday. I really went mad! It started locations like 5-6 times and wanted to download some update and maps, I just couldn't get rid of it! Then I downloaded something and it prompted me to download (actualy purchase) individual maps and I rejected and then all of a sudden it stopped. The phone was NOT in the charger. No new popups since.

Still doing it to me, whether in charger or out. Posted a thread about it which is down the page but no replies!!!
I have found a "fix" for the issue.
I could not root my phone for some reason, so normal uninstall of locations wasn't an option for me.
I cannot exactly tell the steps I have done, cause I tried several things at a time and I don't know which one worked, but the main thing was:
- I made a factory reset, which did not change much appart from that I could plug in the phone to PC and see it as a drive.
- I removed some files related to locations from SD card
- In one of the menus related to application managment I had an option to reinstall locations
- I clicked on it
- AND I removed the battery in the middle of installation
- After turning on "Locations" were asking about making an install once again, but I chose an option "go to hell" and voila, no more hate against your own phone.
FIX by destruction
so, this morning i was trying to transfer files from my computer to my phone, and the connection randomly dropped. i received a notification
that my "samsung device hardware ids" are unrecognizable or something to that effect, and then nothing would transfer to my phone in any capacity..
i continually get an error saying "cannot transfer files, the device is not responding or has been unplugged"
(added a pic of the dialog window)
i toggled the mount as camera PTP option and back to MTP, which sometimes fixes it, same problem.
i thought it may have been the ROM i was on, (i had just flashed it) so i restored a backup (2 different ones actually), same problem.
thought it was my computer (windows 7) freaking out, so i rebooted. same problem, (although after the reboot, the invalid samsung hardware ids notification stopped appearing)
updated and rolled back drivers, same problem.
resorted to kies, thinking it would update or something, no dice.
it's weird because, my computer can see all my files, and so can kies. but i can't transfer anything in or out..
i honestly have no idea how i triggered this, i was simply transferring files like i always do. (and i am using the cable the phone came with)
i don't really want to odin back to stock just yet. considering i have no means of backing up what's on my phone to my computer, and there are things on there i haven't had a chance to back up...
any advice, or ideas i haven't tried, anything at all will help.
(i also did a search for my problem and didn't find any pertinent info to this specific problem, unless i overlooked something.. in which case, i'm sorry for the duplicate question )
My first recommendation would be to reinstall the drivers from Samsung's website. Then try another computer. All else fails, ODIN back to stock and try that. If that doesnt work, take laptop into T-Mobile and show them that its not working. Might be a hardware fault

hopefully it's not a hardware problem.. but i d/led the drivers from the samsung website, rebooted both my compy and my phone, same problem.. so i guess next step is to odin back... bummer.. and i would take my computer to them to show it not working.. except my computer is a rather large desktop rig... heh.. but thank you for your reply and advice. i'll update when i odin back, i suppose..
well... i guess i figured out the problem... upon odin-ing back to stock and trying transferring stuff again, it worked...
although, i must mention that i also found that one of the files i was trying to transfer had gotten corrupted somehow.. and was causing most of the errors, (a hurt-pride way to say, the corrupted file WAS the problem)... so.. basically caused a lot of problems myself, and came to the conclusion that it was operator error. thanks for the advise i got though. sorry for the inconvenience and the time spent reading and replying
Glad you got it figured out, but just for the future try sgs3 Easy UMS. Search it here on xda. Its an app that mounts external sdcard as UMS.
Also you could try a wireless transfer program like SwiFTP. I never transfer files via usb cable anymore.

Oh, thanks for the info, I'll look into that app and a wireless alternative see how it fares for me.

Just noticed a couple things...SwiFTP is now on play store but is just called FTP Server now and is a paid app.
Here is the webpage for it and you can download a trial version there, this was all changed and app updated a few dats ago.
