I'm trying to get my phone completely cleared as I've been getting FC's left and right as well as issues with Contacts syncing, etc and I was wondering if I'm missing something. I tried numerous methods including ##MSL# reset, CLEAR STORAGE via HBOOT, Wipe Data/Factory Reset via Recovery. All of these leaves the third-party apps I had installed behind.
Any ideas?!
If you're running 2.2, your apps get automatically reinstalled by the Market after you login with your Google account.
Really? Mine don't, but that is what TB is for.
@akarol: What ROM are you using?

Well, that would make sense if I was logging in to my Google Account. But this last time I just skipped all initial setup and it still was showing all my apps.

Try running this command:
FASTBOOT ERASE SYSTEM
This should wipe the System partition.
This is the wrong forum, btw. Questions go in the Q&A Section.
Type ##786#, menu, reset, Enter MSL, OK. Should do the trick.
Are you using apps2sd by any chance?
You really need to supply more info if you expect an answer.
If your Rom creates a symlink on install then the apps on your sdcards ext partition would still be there.

Hi,
I have been flashing custom ROMs and updates for a while now but I have a question that I can't find an answer to:
Sometimes when I perform a full wipe in recovery, after I flash the new ROM it retains the wallpaper and some settings (wifi networks, for example) from the previous installation.
When wiping, I have used every available wipe parameter - I have tried this in Clockwork 2.5.0.7 and in Amon-RA v2.0.0.
The phone is S-OFF, I've even done a 'fastboot erase system' after the wipe but it still doesn't clear everything.
Can anyone please explain to me why?
Thanks.
I find that happens to me too too, and I reckon it's got something to do with your google account automatically backing up and restoring that content when you sync it to your gmail account..

Isn't that typical - I post a question and then I find this on a website.
"Just logging into a phone and waiting a few minutes will get your settings back to normal. This is controlled by the same privacy checkbox as the app restore functionality. The data you can expect to magically reappear includes Wi-Fi networks, privacy settings, accessibility options, wallpaper and search settings."
Seems you are right - thanks!
All,
I'm having a bit of an issue after flashing the Android Revolution HD 5.1.6 ROM - it seems that whenever I try and download an app from the market that it fails to download.
I originally flashed the ROM and forgot to do the EXT4 so re-did it flashing the EXT4 first but still have an issue.
Strange thing is, my marketplace apps synced themselves on initial boot after flashing the rom so I have them, it's just getting any new apps that fails.
Any ideas?
Menu/settings/applications/ click the all tab. Scroll down to market and clear data and cache. Then try again. Should fix it.

I am having this problem exactly, except going from 5.1.6 to 5.1.7 with the EXT4 data partition format. Marketplace synced all my apps fine on first boot, but updating and installing any other apps is unsuccessful. Installing from market.android.com works fine. Clearing the market cache doest fix. Any ideas people?
Look for a folder in your sd card named lost dir and delete everything in it. Then delete any apk files in the android secure folder. Then wipe market data and cache. Then load market and see what happens.

I just flashed the 1.32 RUU and we're having the same problem there too, so Im gonna root it and use a fresh SD card on AR5 and see where that gets me...
Right Ive just flashed the 5.1.7 rom including the data partition wipe... On the SD card LITERALLY was a couple of folders containing mp3s and photos. Nothing android at all. I still cannot install anything from the marketplace. Any more ideas guys? It doesnt appear to be from the phone? Maybe Googles side?
I still can't get this working. I've tried clearing the cache partition and dalvik, fresh Rom install, clean SD card. I can install from the market website, but everything from the app fails.
Edit: just to clarify, clearing data partition and setting up a new Google account fixes the market... Which is pointless cause my paid apps are with my main gmail account. I restored the nandroid of the data partition and market is back to not working. It's becoming more and more clear that this is a Google issue with my account.
I'm also running ARHD 5.1.7 and I've found the market tries to download apps, then stops. Restarting the phone, and the file(s) download straightway without a problem... I suspect it's a Google issue, rather than a rom problem.
Same here, tryed also with new google account and works for it but not with my old account...
Oookay I'm up working again.... (AR 5.1.7 is brilliant BTW)
Id read about making sure Google talk was signed in, and id checked a fair few times, but it didn't work. I did just read something about logging out of talk and logging back in, so tried that and it worked. All fixed.
Worked for me !!! Thx a lot
Hi there,
I already searched about this but i cant really find anything useful to me.
The problem is: I have a HTC Desire and everytime I change rom from new sense he restore my old apps from the old roms.... How can i stop that auto installation? Its so annoying.
Best Regards!
portela =)
U mean google's automatic backup?
Settings>Privacy>Backup Settings
Either the previous post or are you using an EXT partition for data2sd? If so, you will have to format that partition in between flashing roms.
If you flash new roms, you should do a full wipe. All installed should be deleted with this action.

I was already there before but I just dont want apps restore... i want contacts from google :\
And "Automatic Restore" disabled solves this?
Are these google apps or apps you installed yourself which reinstall themselves?

What was told: Do a full wipe before flashing a rom. With this action the /data partition and ext partition (and some other partitions, but these two are the were apps will be installed) will be formatted. Now apps should not install "themselves". A solution for now:
Manually uninstall the apps which reinstalled themselves.
And you can turn google's automatic backup off . You get the google contacts from syncing with google account (settings>accounts & sync). I also turned off this automatic backup, sync on the described way and i have all my google contacts on my phone. Furthermore, i (would) backup myself with titanium backup + nandroid + sms backup & restore.

I always do full wipes when I install roms... I think that the problem is that sense or something saves downloaded apps and it downloads again the apps.

Your phone backs up the following types of data and settings whenever there are new additions or changes:
- Text and multimedia messages
- Settings in the Messages application
- Web bookmarks
- Keyboard dictionary
- Settings in your phone that fall under these categories:
Wireless & networks
Sound & display
Location
Applications
Date & time
Language & keyboard - only the Locale setting
I really dont understand how dont u all have this problem.. even the background desktop picture is there after another rom install >_>
still searchin more ideas :\
Now i am finished with my knowledge. Sorry. It sounds so strange that apps reinstall themselves.
sad thanks by the way
any1 with an idea about this?
bump help
The only way I have found is as soon as you've gone through the setup process on initial boot with a new ROM, rush to Settings > Applications, then terminate Market application and clear its data. It stops it autodownloading the apps again.
Then I install what i want using Titanium Backup, and then I run Market. It does a "first start" user agreement thing and you're all back to normal, without the market redownloading apps you downloaded under previous ROMs.
Not a brilliant solution but better than nothing.

Whenever I change Rom I don't add my Google account in the initial setup. Before u do that, go settings , privacy, backup/restore. The auto restore option is ticked but greyed out so u cant select it. Tick auto backup box, de select auto restore, and deselect auto backup again. Now it should'nt restore anything...

1. if you have crack apps when google play load them to your my apps it will error out google play maybe a new feature.
2. reset your dpi to stock in rom control if your using a rom with it and reboot .
3. clear market cache, data reboot but still must have stock dpi.
thanks for a quick replay. I have a stock rom, no root, no custom rom. I did only clear market cache and reboot, but still not working. I can search on Market, but can't download or update via WIFI. .......strange, never happened....
Try all of these -
1. Go to applications > Play store > Clear Cache/Data
2. Go to applications > Download Manager > Clear Data
3. Go to recovery > Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. Go to recovery > Wipe Cache
What error message? If not a error message force close app and reboot. If that doesn't work, log into another Google account in your market see if you can get downloads. If that works, something is wrong with your account syncing. If it still dosent work i would factory restore. Somehow a setting seems to may have been changed on accident or you internal drive just acting crazy and needs to be reformated "same as factory reset". This normally is most common on apps restored from a backup or lack of storage/memory

I already done no 1 & 2. For 3 & 4 I don't have a custom recovery.... and still doesn't work! The phone is under contract at Vodafone, and it's locked in network. I can't put custom recovery on it or other ROM...unfortunately.
mate, if I switch WIFI off and I do update or a download via 3G, works just fine. I can't understand why doesn't work via WIFI ? it could be because I changed my router?????

Sounds like your wifi is restricting data downloading over a certain size or is blocking all download traffic from the market due to router policies set up. Factory reset phone and format internal drive. Well maybe hard resetting the router may be a good idea before losing all your phone info although it will come right back since its probably connected to google contacts and programs you already downloaded.

I recently rooted my at&t S3 and up until recently I haven't been able to use any google services. I first noticed it with the google play store when I opened the app it would say "No Connection" with a box underneath that said retry. No mater what I do it still persists. I've cleared the cache, attempted to uninstall updates but i would be stuck on the uninstall page indefinitely. I looked in the google accounts I was using and signed out of both of them but when I try to sign back in it tells me it can't establish a connection? I'm looking for a solution that doesn't involve me having to hard reset

Do you have a internet connection (3G-4G)? Are you notification icons gray or blue? (Blue = connected with Google)
Check to make sure you APNs to make sure they all match. You can also try to clear your Play Store's cache/data as well as clear your accounts info.

I have a steady connection. I've tried on wifi along with 4G and still nothing. I haven't been getting any notifications from google. Cleared all account data as well. I think the problem started when I used root app delete to clear up some unused system apps. I didn't disable any apps that that looked harmful but after the problem I enabled them all again.

Well then, chances are that you will have to reset it. Backup your stuff first though.
Apps/data -> Titanium Backup
Copy your personal files on a external SD or on your pc and contacts to your sim if they're not sync'd with your google account.
Playing with system apps is never a good idea (unless you really know what you're doing)
Another option would be to grab pre-rooted stock Odin for your carrier, you will still need to backup though.

TiBu will make a folder on your internal SD (named Titanium Backup), just save that folder on your pc or External SD if you're worried about your internal storage getting wiped.
Once your phone is back up, just restore with TiBu *don't restore any system apps*
