I use xiialive to stream my DI.FM premium channels on my phone all the time, but if the screen goes off (sleep) it is about 10 seconds later (assuming it's buffered) the stream stops and skips til it eventually won't restart. This does not occur on 3G, only wifi. I have done additional testing with other apps with the same exact results. Also, if the phone is plugged in to the computer or wall charger, the stream stays on just fine even with the screen off when charging. I have checked and made sure in the wifi advanced settings to put wifi sleep to never, which makes no difference it appears. Anyone have a suggestion?
Edit: Forgot to put what I am using lol. It's an HTC EVO running OMJ's Froyo 2.2 rom on kingklicks #6 kernel. I also went back to stock kernel and also tried netarchy's kernel with the same streaming issue over wifi.
Anyone? I am really curious how to fix this issue without leaving the screen on and demolishing the battery.
How did you get XiiaLive to stream DI.fm premium? I always get a "bad playlist" error. Tell me what I need to do and I'll try to help you troubleshoot.
What I did was play the stream in iTunes. If you click get info on the stream that is playing it gives s URL with a long string of random character (your DI.FM ID number for premium) which can then be added to XiiaLive app. Just go favorites then tap add favorite and you paste in the URL. I sent it to myself via email and copy and pasted it into xiialive to make it easier.

What he's saying, is that the AAC+ streams (what most people use now) don't work. That's because the 2.2 OTA for the EVO screwed up Froyo's AAC+ support even more, and XiiaLive's developer disabled it. If you have a ROM with Google's AAC+ fix added, you can just change your model number in your build.prop, or else change your model number and disable Stagefright for AAC+ streams (full instructions here)
As for the original problem: WiFi automatically turns off after a few moments of your screen being off. This is true on pretty much every smartphone. You have five choices:
1) Set WiFi to not turn off automatically.
2) Set your screen to not turn off automatically.
3) Keep your EVO plugged in.
4) Put together your own ROM and kernel, and modify the timeout for the WiFi auto-shut off to be a lot longer.
5) Use 3G/4G.

My old iPhone 3G did this flawlessly for 2 years over WiFi. It should only sleep when not in use regardless of the screen being off.
1) Already mentioned it is.
2) Drains insane amounts of battery.
3) Don't always have a cord with me to plug it in... hassle?
4) I only know PHP and some Java, pretty sure neither of those would get me anywhere on writing my own stuff.
5) Already use that method via 3G (4G not in my city) except the DI.FM premium stations come in at a much higher bit rate and tend to break every minute or two and have to re-buffer.
I don't want to sound mean or anything, but none of those are viable options to fix my issue. I assumed there would be a work around to fix this issue that isn't a nuisance or a battery drainer, but maybe I am wrong.
Sorry, but there is no fix for you then. Also, are you attempting to use the high-end MP3 streams or something? 128kbps AAC+ never skips or buffers for me on 3G, even at -109dB.
Well that is why I was asking, buy someone might know a fix that you don't as well. And yes, I am using the 256kbps MP3 stream. I know that is a bit much to ask of 3G and the reason I wanted to use the WiFi. Some days it plays for hours on 3G without a hitch and other days it buffers every couple minutes. I would prefer to use the 128AAC stream, but disabling the stage-fright thing screws with my youtubes. Just having iPhone withdraws from when I listened to DI.FM premium (also in AAC) all day via WiFi.
You can use CM6 which has Google's fix for Stagefright's AAC+ issues. But hey, your choice.

I wonder how long before the "fix" that is in CM6 makes it into sense ROMs though?

Ha. Yeah, not going to happen until either the ROM makers start caring, or Gingerbread comes out. Seriously.
Is this a rooted issue only, or can no 2.2 updated phone play AAC streams? If it's the later, then I would think there would be a tiny patch from sprint to fix it.
Sprint/HTC isn't going to patch it unless it's in the to-be-released Fresh claims to have gotten a hold of.
CM6 is the only Froyo ROM with the AAC+ patch.
Your only other alternative is to not use AAC+, or set media.stagefright.enable-http=false.
Ok. Well thanks for your help.

Hi there,
by browsing a bit on the filesystem of my Hero, I uncovered some files called audio.conf, main.conf and input.conf in the /etc/bluez-directory.
Editing the contents (eg. discoverabletimeout) in it didn't do anything though -.-
I was wondering, if it's possible to get the bluetooth, working on the phone, to get its settings from these files, rather than from somewhere else (wherever that may be -.-)?
Running VillainRom 5.4, btw...
Sorry if I have misread your post, but doesn't Bluetooth work now on 2.1 ROMs?
I managed to transfer a photo to my friends phone last night via Bluetooth. I just went into the Gallery, selected a photo and then chose Bluetooth from the Sharing options. Worked straight away.
I'm using SenseHero 2.1
It DOES work, but you might want to tweak it a little
e.g. disable the timer for discovering the phone, etc...
Come on, there has to be some way...
This little **** won't connect to my handsfree anymore and I think this is related to some settings within these .conf-files...
So, after applying the official 2.1 Update, this little f***** keeps connecting, disconneting, connecting, disconnecting, connecting...
I'll never gonna buy HTC-stuff again... Fed up -.-
Hey, could someone in the UK with a Froyo+Sense ROM point their browser to m.tvcatchup.com and test out a channel for me? I'm consistently getting a stupid icon obliterating my viewing, but no one in the official support forum has mentioned it.
Working fine for me on Desire + LeeDroid 1.8 ROM, watching the news on BBC 2 right now.
Works for me mate (FroYo).
Tried both HQ and LowQ.
Also tried both the Media and Streaming Media Player popup (when I click on a channel it prompts me what player to use).
I don't get that popup! How do you get that?
The icon is basically a white square, with a blue circle inside, and inside the circle is a yellow triangle, with a red tick or check mark at the base of the triangle. Any ideas? It's really annoying!
Here ya go, snaps using the Shoot Me app. You can see what I mean.

I think it is because I have the Gallery.apk installed.
Can't remember the official name but it is the one from the Nexus One.
I get this too. Brand new installed rom all i have done is put my music on and connected to exchange server.
Could this to the fact of having a 'weak signal' I have noticed that it says weak signal at the top when it starts, and this time that icon was at the top left out the way so could be a bug with the tv catchup system rather than anything to do with the phone. I tried connecting to our wireless at work but it can't make a connection to the server to stream the tv.
I actually cannot get my phone to connect to a feed! It pops up with "Unable to connect to server." every time.
Ditto. It worked with 2.1 and doesn't now (for me.) Mobile version I mean.
Struggled in high quality due to weak signal. Yet my ipod touch is fine in high quality. Hmmm strange.
what about changing browser settings so that it possbily sees the phone as an Iphone, ipod etc? surely that could possibly work
Okay I've just wiped my whole phone, all wipes, and install Froyo DeLite r0.5. Not installed any apps yet, it is completely fresh. And I'm still getting that stupid icon! Everytime I log into m.tvcatchup.com and choose any channel. And even when using wifi, connected my router three metres from me, which is attached to a fat 20meg Virgin broadband, and HTC Streaming Media still says 'weak signal'!!!
I no longer believe it is the ROM, something is fubar with TV Catchup. I've started this thread on the official forum:
http://forums.tvcatchup.com/showthread.php?9089-Weird-icon-now-on-every-channel!
Does anyone know of any other RTSP streams to test with? Just to see how HTC Streaming Media app fares with something else?
Hi guys, one thing is that if you are using Froyo you are limiting yourselves to a smaller selection of channels as Froyo supports full flash now. This means you will have the full selection of channels on TVC at http://www.tvcatchup.com/channels.html
Hey guys, as I just posted in the TV Catchup forum, the HTC Streaming Media App is borked. The icon does not appear in Eclair. HTC have cocked up, big time.
Okay, just flashed DJ Droid 1.2 and the icon has finally gone. This is dead weird!!! Why are some Roms giving me the icon, but some not?! Don't get it.
Also still poor signal quality however even on Wifi, but at least now I'm halfway there!
You guys are missing a big point
You don't need to use the mobile version. Download Adobe Flash Player 10.1 from the market and go visit the full tvcatchup site, works like a charm.

It does but it's less convenient and it's not optimised for mobile so you don't get all the full screen goodness.

Of course you get full screen and more importantly you get all the channels compared to 22 on the m.tvcatchup.com site, just save the channels page in your bookmarks, select a channel, loads, double tap, and you are in full screen.. couldn't be simpler !
And if you really want it easier just save the bookmark as an widget on your front screen.
After about a month, I finally got it. Uploading my library now, probably going to max out my storage .
Anyone have any hints, tips or tricks on things that can be done with Google Music?
my learning
If you use an AT&T Microcell the Ping delay will go through the roof while uploading and will impact your ability to make calls.
On my 3G iPhone it appears that a song is playing fine but you can't hear. You need hit the pause button on the player and then play button so you can hear a song. Frankly Google Music doesn't work very well on my iPhone.
If you found any tip sites I'd like to know them.
I got an invite 8 days ago & just barely started uploading my music yesterday night. I've got the app for my Epic running SRF 1.1.1 & it doesn't seem to work. Maybe it might have something to do with the phone's modem? I'm not sure, but I'm only seeing the music on my SD. I checked my settings in the app & it is connected to my account, but it won't display the uploaded music at all. Damn it!

I had the same issue with the app. I had it installed before I received my invite. Simply uninstalled and reinstalled google music on my phone. Issue resolved...for me at least.

Actually because your phone is rooted.
I heard you can clear the apps data and it works , might not but give it a try

works okay for me on stock rooted ec05.. It fine with a few songs, but once I got to around 10,000 songs both the web interface and the android app became a lot slower and less responsive.
Also, the uploader will rape your home bandwidth if you let it.. My 20/2 ends up slower than dialup with that thing running. There are throttle controls, but they didn't seem to help, the problem only went away for me when I turned it off completely. Also it prevents the screensaver from activating.. wtf? The phone player could use more features, as could the web player. Web interface failed the girlfriend test. After using it for a few minutes she declared it "unfriendly" and went back to using grooveshark.
On the one hand, it's cool having my entire mp3 library available when I'm away from home, but on the other hand grooveshark is still better for me to find new music.
On my rooted Droid X (Apex 2.0 Beta), i've had zero issues.
A few tips: Rather than trying to upload your collection during the day, do it while you sleep. It doesn't modify the bitrate, so if you're uploading a 320kbs file that is 6MB in size ... well, you get the idea.
Be prepared for some organization on the site itself. Unless you're quite particular about your ID3 tags, you will have to rename some songs, locate/update/upload new or clearer quality album art (Google Images works fine for this), and combine groups of songs from the same album into one album listing(generally is the result of some of the songs having no 'Album Artist' and some having it... tip, just highlight all, put the Artist in both groups, Ctrl+F5, win.)
Last thoughts... the widget is really bad right now, but the UI isn't awful. While you can presently filter in 2 ways 1) All music or 2) Only music on your phone,... there isn't a way to only filter online stuff. But, when you have no data connection (3G or WiFi), it will gray the online music out.
But really, take this all with the Beta grain of salt. GMail was in beta at one point, and took awhile to become the slick e-mail machine it is now. I have no doubt Google Music will only get better.
do you know, if i update an id-tag on my computer is the same mp3 going to be updated also on Google Music?
If the file size or name of the music file doesn't change then I don't think a Tag will trigger the re-upload. It may be worth a try though.
Anyone know of a good "free" MP3 tagger, that will go through and ID and correct the tags of my MP3s before I upload them?
I think pretty much all of my MP3s have had their tags removed

Several free ones, with reviews for each one.
I've had Google music for a while now (just started using it recently) and I have to say, for it being beta, it's pretty good. Although, I do have some beef with a few things.
Widget sucks: There's the song name, forward, and pause/play button. That's it. I don't like it and I find myself just playing music through the app itself.
Data is wonky: I've noticed that sometimes that GM will load random songs incorrectly and sound like crap. The only way I've found to fix this is going to settings/apps/music and clearing the data and cache. It has to reload the songs but if you start listening to music on wifi or a good 3g connection, songs will load correctly.
Web Interface, YUCK!: Nit picking here but I hate the look of the web interface. Works great though.
App needs equalizer and lockscreen playlist: I'm drawing this complaint after using Power Amp. If GM could model their app after Power Amp, it'd be perfect
Even though it's all complaining, I still recommend this app to music users (on sprint only). After songs are cached on your phone, it hardly draws any data, but I still wouldn't use it on AT&T and Verizon...but that's just because of their stupid cap. It has loads of potential, and I can't wait to see it
Hi guys!
At first I was surprised by the Defy after switching from a iPhone 3G. It's much faster, better camera and battery etc. Although don't get me started on syncing the Defy to a Mac...
Now I do have some problems that really give me headaches:
1. GPS not working
I think the GPS stopped working when I took the phone to the US (I'm from Germany). Which sucks because I wanted to use it for navigation. I Installed the GPS Test App, erased and refreshed the A-GPS Data. Doesn't help. I switched it on and off several times, went into Airplane mode and so on. Nothing.
GPS Test tells me that there are usually 1-4 satellites in view but non in use.
Any help here?
2. Wi-Fi won't connect sometimes
It feels like the Wi-Fi has worse reception that the iPhone anyway but it sometimes just won't connect. Might take 10 minutes until it suddenly does.
3. Music player
This is a minor problem but it's still really bugging me because I'm a big music buff. I have a couple mixtapes and compilations on the phone but I'm not able to play them as they're supposed to be, since the phone splits the Albums into several albums due to the Interpret-tag being different. It still does that after I edited the Album Interpret-tag.
I'm happy for any help. Right now I'm a little frustrated since with the iPhone everything has been so easy and, you know, just worked!

What rom are you in? Rooted?

The regular motoblur that comes with the phone. I just updated to 2.2.2. and at least the GPS is working again. That's the most important thing.
Any recommendations for a slick looking music player that gets the tags right?
Ok, so GPS again not working anymore. Only finds one satellite and does not use it. I crossed the border from Canada to the US, could that have anything to do with it?
which rom have you flashed?
GPS with problem maybe your rom is broken.
As I said, it's the default ROM. Recently updated to 2.2.2, not rooted or anything.
You're using default froyo not rooted? Are you using tmobile usa? Have you check the settings-location and security, make sure gps and network are checked. What app are you using for gps, because some app turn gps on/off so you hane to check again.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Id3 issue on original update
The problem with id3 tags after update to official 2.2.2 is a known and annoying one. Sometimes a whole album is not recognised, but usually its just few songs from it, random track numbers. The bug is with Android's library, so it prevails in all the players that work with it... It goes to such extent that in some music players you look at the song-no tags, you select edit tags and all tags are properly shown in the editing window.Save and than boom, unknown artist, track again.
My solution: Use folders instead of library (powerAmp player or other)
As for gps, just today I stopped getting fix on satellites (after a month, so I hope it will come back)...
I haven't. Had this problem on android and not since iPhone 3g years ago in college. Here is an example - you go to, school, hospital, wherever and log in through their website. Click accept to the rules and bang u r riding waves. But 10 minutes later after not being on your phone, class is done, etc you open your browser and... U want to throw the phone - now its time to hit retry, which never works, so u have to open another page to something different than Google until the website login page comes up and you can sign in by hitting accept again. I Sat next to my wife and we tried the same pages, ate lunch, opened up and her note 2 would surf no issues, my LG g3 lost connection and had to,back to the accept/login screen. So is it a setting, LG thing, or android 4.4 thing, please save my sanity and data plan.

probably an network thing after 10 min of inactivity it breaks the connection, you wife's note was probably syncing something in the background, so the inactivity wasn't quite as long it is that or you have ennablede the option to shut down wifi when screen is off(settings/wifi/settings/keep on durring sleep/always
I knew someone would try and say that even after it happening at multiple places and having a good test proving it. If your answer is the case, then what is her phone doing that keeps he continual, connection? Bc I can't stand this and need to,make it happen on my phone. My shoutcast is doing it too. I open Pandora to fast forward and it says connection lost and Pandora starts playing a different song than what is still playing on the shoutcast. It is not a shoutcast or network issue if I loose network connection everytime on different networks and never had the issue before with other tablets and phones except a ijunk phone5 years ago. Shoutcast streams a link sent to it, My phone should not drop the connection regardless. I don't loose WiFi connection to my house and it logs in no problem. Its the way my phone is handling the network connection. Ok maybe u r correct, in that other phones sends a continual ping, but how to fix my phone. Oh now that I think, about it, I lost connection 3 Times last night at work if my screen was off for more than a minute or so with the Amazon chat customer service for a return. I had to put my screen on no-time-out to finish the chat. This network feature to hold a connection at school years ago was one of my favorite things after coming from,iPhone. No need to mess with connecting every time if u stayed in the building.
Please pardon my thumbs, oh and the WiFi on when screen off was oem set to "on"
Solved - So Verizon tier 2 support said it was an anti virus app closing the connections. I didn't have anything which reminded me to get something good for avg i suppose. Anyway he said likely myVerizon security which I didn't set up. Anyway I downgraded and used the flash tool method to go to 10b, rootee, then used titanium and uninstalled everything on the safe bloatware to remove list. All is work now, I did have 30 minutes last night where I kept looking and instantly regaining home WiFi while watching videos on a website, no YouTube app. Networks that require web login looking connection is solved. Also, pandora issue is solved
