What the hell is this? It's not dead pixels.. I noticed this a few weeks ago and it looks like it may be getting worse. It's mainly noticeable on white backgrounds. I baby this phone. It's protected with a case and screen protector from day one. Never dropped. I would take it in now and see if I could get it replaced, but I hear replacements are coming with 2.2 and I don't want to be stuck without root. Anyone else have this lighter spot in their screen?

I have this exact same anomaly. The pictures below don't quite do it justice, but I'm sure the passers-by can get the idea here. It's more evident when the screen is bright, and the background is white. Very annoying. Screen has never been dropped, etc. My HW revision is 0002.. novatek panel.

Aww crap, I'm in the same boat as you guys...
And to think I was going to get a phone that WASN'T defective first time around
Weird. That's almost the exact location of my spot.
I think it a heat spot from the CPU.
I have the same thing.

I also have one, in almost the exact same spot. I don't know what's causing it, but I also have that issue with my monitors on my laptops. I usually end up getting like 3-4 big spots on the screen. I don't notice it to much because I've gotten used to it, but my screens have preformed just fine even with the bright spots.
Just think of it this way, you can see those spots better in the sun now, since it's brighter
I had that on my first phone. I also had light leakage so I figured they were related.

It's really not a big deal to me, so long as it does not get worse. It's hardly noticeable. It's just one of those things you notice because it's wrong, but no one else would ever see. My Evo is great otherwise.. I'm not interested in risking a return for a refurb or unrootable 2.2 device.

I have the same problem. Novatec 0002. It started out barely noticeable and it has grown to be significantly worse. A big white spot that is really really bright white on white screens.
I was showing off my EVO and everyone was just fixated on that spot. Can't show off the EVO anymore. I'm very upset, I would rather have an unrooted 2.2 than a big eyesore on the screen. I'm sure someone will root 2.2 soon enough.

Might be worth making a stink about after a new hw revision (or with recent) and after 2.2 is rooted. Cry a river about light leakage and get a replacement. I can deal with it the way it is now, but would rather be proactive before it gets worse.
I have it as well didn't think much of it cause i had never heard anyone else say anything, now i atleast know im not alone, and it should be noted as a issue.
For those of you with similar issues, list your hardware builds and screen manufacturers, etc.
Revision 003 novatech panel. Seems like everyone with this problem has a nova panel so far.
Same here.
I have the same issue.. similar spot, I don't mind as long as it doesn't get worse.
It doesn't bother me horribly, but I do find my eye being drawn to it. Also, for as much money as I've spent on this thing i expect the screen to not have defects like this. As soon as root for 2.2 is achieved I will probably be trying for a replacement.
I have been waiting on a replacement from radio shack for 8 weeks because of the same issue.REV 2 nova panel.Mine has gotten bigger and is now 2 separate spots.
I have the same issue on a Rev 3 Nova, also ended up with some kind of weird screen "burn in" - you can see numbers from the vanilla lockscreen clock when the screen is black. I'm supposed to be getting a replacement (my third now) from the local repair center sometime in the next few days.
So apparently these novatech panels are junk.
Add me to the list as well. 002 w/Nova. Same exact spot about an inch above the back button at the bottom. Has anyone successfully got Sprint to replace theirs for this issue?

I just got my Galaxy s2 and i've noticed some odd black blogs on the screen. They are only visiable in lower lighting while on darker screens. They arent dead pixels, its like... on the inside of your windshield on your car, if you wipe a little spot it looks like the glass is kind of smokey and then super clear where you wiped, thats what this looks like but smaller. So there are all these black spots under the glass on my phone.
i did read an article on suction cup prints, light spots, finger prints and so on on the inside of these displays..
i've already contacted support on it and they need me to send back this one and then they will send out my new one since im still in my 14 day remorse period.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed/had this problem?
Yes, I just spoke to Tmobile and they said I could exchange in store since I'm within remorse period.

I had the same issue on my first GS2. I returned it and got a 2nd GS2 with a perfect screen with no vertical lines or black blobs issue. Good luck!
Looking closely at mine in a very dark room while starting a youtube, I noticed it. Didn't think I had it but I guess I do. I notice it for a split second when the video is about to start. Another way I saw it was there is a bug with the status bar brightness control. Sometimes the screen goes dark when trying to lower brightness. When that happens, you will see the blobs on the screen. It has to be real dark too. I did it under the covers at night. Really gotta look close. I had blobs or black and just lines everywhere.
T989 Screen issues.
I upgraded to the T989 Galaxy S II and found the same issue on it. You will notice that the backlight isn't right. It's brighter than it should be - gives a fuzzy glow. There are also black blotches on the screen...all over it actually. Enough to annoy you when you are trying to watch a movie in the dark. I returned that one thinking ok maybe it's just that one. My second one...SAME ISSUE. Even worse this time...there were verticle lines running top to bottom. Quite visible lines.
On the first return, the Tmobile reps compared my T989 with my i9100 while viewing a blank black screen (can be produced by taking a photo with your phone against your jeans or shirt then viewing it in full screen). They confirmed the issue to be true.
On the second return, other Tmobile reps also compared the T989 with my i9100 and confirmed the issue as well. One rep had a T989 and hers also had the issue. I then checked the store display model. Same issue as well.
If this is something you can live with, then just keep it. It doesn't seem to happen clearly if you turn your brightness above max or don't watch movies or use the phone in the dark.
There is a significant color difference between the T989 and i9100. The color of the message bar was compared between the two. The i9100 showed a true blue while the T989 had a faded/greenish blue tint to it. The difference is noticable in any brightness. Keep in mind that both phones have SUPER AMOLED PLUS screens.
I'm assuming all the T989s have this issue due to the manufacturer having messed something up during production.
If you would like to contact me for more information regarding my experience with this issue, please email me at : [email protected]ase do not ask me to run any test on the T989 for I have since returned it to the store and will never buy another T989. I'm sticking with my original i9100 Galaxy S II.
I had the black blobs on my first device.. Returned it and my second device is PERFECT. Beautiful screen, no blobs, couldn't be happier. Love this phone! Best Android device I have ever owned.. And I'm a very picky person.

What is the date on the box of your 2nd device? I've got two phones 9/28 and 9/29 and both have blotches and vertical lines like in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18676273 . The 9/28 is worse. I've heard that 10/1 and beyond devices have fixed this manufacturing defect. Can you please confirm?

This seems to be a common issue with Samsung's amoled screens. I've owned two Vibrants, a Captivate and now the Tmobile GSII and all of them have displayed this issue. If you get one without the blobs then you really got lucky.
continue here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300879
So after reading that the reason that the super amoled screen was used in the GS3 was for "longevity".. I read somewhere in the comments that the SAMOLED+ screens suffer from some image burn... but wait... my phone has one of those....
Then I recalled that over the past few days I noticed that the top of the screen of my phone has been "shaded" a bit... so i whipped it out.. found a white picture and and sure enough. right at the top where the status bar is... it's shaded a bit. it's very faint right now... but it's definitely darker than the rest of the screen...
thoughts? anyone else experiencing this?
I don't have that problem (yet) but I was wondering if its covered under warranty?

Yup. It happens. The pixel inactivity seems to be the culprit.
Happened on my nexus s sporting an amoled display and I figured it was bound to happen to the gs2. And of course, it has.
Its one of those things you don't really notice unless youre looking for it, though. So just don't think about it and enjoy the phone.

If he's anything like me, once its there that's all hell see, like a scratch on the screen or a bad ding on the phone. Once I noticed the crooked screen on my evo3d, it drove me nuts. Actually I just checked and I also have a slight discoloration along the top of the screen.

Happened to the status bar of my og epic.
Since I've had my et4g, I have made sure to go full screen mode whenever possible (go launcher settings). So far haven't noticed any burn in.
This is also the reason why I still prefer GB over ics's designated onscreen buttons(maybe I'm just paranoid). Not to mention, more screen estate for viewing pleasure.
OLED technology from day 1 was a burn in technology. Unlike LCD's (and LED-LCD's, LED TV's are used in billboards not your house) with a black light shining through colored pixels which are darkened by liquid crystal which are subject to total backlight failure, age. The component of OLED has a lifespan on a per pixel basis.
Blues over all the various OLED tech's have the shortest lifespan. My laptop has an OLED display on it for information its a Teal color and its rather toasty
Yeah it's real simple to see if you want into any store with some smartphones on display that use OLED... those screens are destroyed most of the time
Cant you put up a pure white image fullscreen for extended time period to reduce the effects of image burn, or does this only work on other types of screens?

On OLED you actually want to display an inverse image of whatever is burned in. You need to burn the rest of the pixels to match the current state. White would probably still have a decent effect but I am not 100% certain. I have a really cruddy LCD that I have to do that for its really weird.

TEP
If you have TEP, this is a defect covered by TEP. Therefore you should be able to walk in to a repair shop and show it to a manager. Now I am afraid it is going to do it to me. Somehow, as I use the official rom, the auto brightness setting begins to get set so low that I cant read it. So I would have to go manually set it all the way up and then turn on the automatic brightness.

If you don't leave the screen on for unnecessary periods of time showing one thing you will be better off. I don't know if the guy with the dock or the dock itself has the screen not turning off. But having it display a static menu especially on high brightness for very long periods of time will destroy it quick.
Watching video for example is very random on wear and would not show up like a menu. Would average in wear like any other use.
I downloaded this and it works. Touch your screen to change the colors. Fortunately, my screen is good to go.

The samsung dock app didn't let the screen turn off while it was docked.
I'm not sure if that is still going on with it, but I switched to alarn clock plus app. It dims and then moves around the clock a little bit every few minutes to avoid having the image in the same place causing burn in.

So, I'm coming from the MyTouch 4G. I remember in the beginning, HTC was making the phone with screen from Sony and LG. The Sony screens were of higher quality and many people were exchanging them for the ones with the screens made by Sony.
I want to know, is there anything of the sort going on with this phone? Is there any reason right off the bat that I might want to do an exchange for?
Anybody??

Well I don't know about my touch 4g but the nexus one which was HTC had an amoled screen made by Samsung but there was a shortage of amoled screens and Samsung wanted to use them on their phones so HTC had to get screens from I think Sony and from what I remember they weren't as good. Samsung makes the screens for the sgs3. That's not gonna change. Unless there's an actual defect or u just don't like the phone you shouldn't have any issues like that.

No, there are no MAJOR issues with this phone, but that doesn't stop some people from returning it for nitpicky reasons.
Here's a non-exhaustive list of the stupid stuff I can recall people returning their brand new SGS3's for:
Power button is "loose". I don't think it's meant to be a supertight fit; mine wiggles a little too (big deal). Also, if you check out the ifixit teardown, you can see how it fits in there (loosely).
Volume rocker makes "squeeky" noises. Mine doesn't.
In absolute darkness, with the capacitive button lights off too, with the screen on, and showing a black screen, ... you might be able to see a few faint ink spots. oh no!
"MMS isn't working". This is not a hardware problem, but rather than just doing a factory reset to default, and contacting your carrier, this user EXCHANGED the phone instead and got extra free accessories too! derp.
The white version looked a little yellow-ish to some people. Don't what to say to this one, as I haven't seen any pics, and my white is white.
Some people snapped the locking teeth off their back cover, but want to blame it as a manufacturer defect instead of just buying a new cover for $10.
And much more trivial crap that I'm forgetting...
In short: no gaping flaws with this phone.

Yeah well when you spend this much money on a brand new flagship phone that most people keep for 2 years they should be able to return an imperfect device. I for one had a loose power button. Did it work? Sure it did! But 6 months from now I don't feel the need to shell out extra money just because it stop working or fell out or whatever the case may be.
If you don't like your phone your well within your right to exchange it or return it within 30 days. I did the same with my HOX. I love HTC but the HOX just was not the phone for me.
Nit picky? Yes! Is it needed? Yes! Its a high end device. When I spend that type of money Id like it to be as close to perfect as possible. Again the S3 has no "major" flaws but it has some like any device. I still think Samsung did a great job with it's release. Other than the shortage but that's bound to happen.
Again this post isn't meant as a flame so please don not take it as such. It's simply my own personal opinion. And for the fact that ATT/Samsung is willing to change them in great CS in my eys. Not that they have much say if your within your 30 day return period. That's why this period is here to begin with. Because ATT/Samsung can stand behind there device and they are.
Cheers...

Just everything else we are used to has a blue tint. My Samsung tv setting is on a cooler setting as I don't like warm much.

Wow, those are some silly reasons. Yeah, I was looking for something major. That might be known. Like in the example I gave, people were able to go into Terminal Emulator and find out. HTC was trying to brush it under the rug, blah blah blah. I was lucky enough to get the Sony screen.

Hey guys.
Today I noticed I have these 4 really tiny bubbles under my screen on the bottom. I thought it was the screen protector, but I took it off and they are still there! They look like 4 miniscule dots. I can't really take a pic with my crappy phone camera but I'll try with a good camera.
Should I file a warranty claim with samsung? I think my retailer return period is up. It has been over a month since I bought it.

Hm, pretty sure these aren't dead pixels on mine though because I can see it clearly when the screen is off. When the screen is on, there is a little bit of distortion where they are. Pretty sure its small air bubbles or dust under the screen. Don't even know how that happened.
The bubbles nay be encapsuled in the glass of the touchscreen or lcd, or the note has a gapless screen, touchscreen glued on the tft, with bubbles in the glue. Definitely a warranty case.
I noticed the same bubbles. It doesnt bother me and I need my tablet for studying so I cant wait for a replacement. I might return it of we get a knpx 0x0 root once the holidays start.

Found the same near Back button. Warranty bit 1 =(
Could also be reflections of the backlight leds, visible probably on any Note under certain circumstances(viewing angle etc.) Check whether they are still there when the Note is off.

Hi Guys,
Anybody with tripped KNOX got any replacements or refunds? As it is a hardware problem, KNOX shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully Sammy has the same point of view...

Samsung cannot deny you warranty on a problem like this if you tripped the KNOX fuse. Refund from a retailer? Depends if they check, which I doubt
I went on a trip last week and they started showing up for me as well spanning from above the home button to beyond the back button. I was gonna sent it back as soon as I got back in Belgium, but now that I see this thread it has got me worried. I don't want to be replacing the tablet every half year if this is a recurring/common problem. Might just sell it when I get the replacement.
Samsung is just giving me more and more reasons to stay away from their products...
Honestly I'm very dissapointed with this tablet so far. Don't get me wrong, for those who want to use it as is you're probably very happy with it, but I personally customise the **** out of my devices and experiment a lot. My S1, Note1, Oppo Find5 have seen a ****load of roms and were fun to play with. I've always liked samsung because they usually have the best spects out there. But lately they have become expensive and hostile towards the community.
I've been talking to the wacom guys last week, and been asking them about their tech in the samsung note line. The reason you don't have configurable settings for your pen and stuff like that (offset, sensitivity, etc) is because samsung won't allow them to have a custom app in there. The stuff get licenced out and from there on samsung has full control.
At this point I'm actually considering just getting a 1+ One and a Microsoft Surface Pro 3, maybe have some Android dual boot action going on...

Is there any way to remove this bubble under the glass myself?
I may have problem with warraty, also don't want to send the tablet back :/
Hi Guys,
I do not know the technical details behind these bubbly issues but - beeing an engineer, I am a lasy dude - after some days my bubbles have just disappeared.
Cheers

This sucks
I have now sent my tablet in twice for this issue. Repair is normally fast but it sucks being without my tablet. I'm hoping they will actually replace it this time around.
Same problem with my tab pro 8.4, it started off as one but keeps spreading (it is much worse now then in this picture I took a week ago), I also thought it was screen protector but I removed it and they are still present, I handled this tablet with extreme care so this is bs, will try to return it, I really don't want to RMA it..

I bought mine off amazon in July 2014 so its been about 3 months, It has always been used with the Official Samsung Book case, and the military shield screen protector from armorsuit.
This tablet never had any issues at all so I am furious a great tablet is going to waste over a defect like this (what did they use cheap glue?), and once samsung repair service mucks with it I doubt it will ever be right again....in my opinion all these tablet lines should be recalled as these cases all seem related bubbles start above the home button, clearly a trend here.
My P605 has this issue as well since three months ago. Annoying.
What color was every ones tab that this happened to, I can't help but notice all the black ones are no longer being sold by amazon or newegg ..etc, I asked samsung if they were already discontinued but they said its still a new tablet, But I don't get why they are out of stock everywhere?
maybe the black bezel ones have some glue defect or lcd defect
Could you tell whether these are bubbles of air in a fluid film, or lil' drops of liquid surrounded by air?
Under the colored rim of the screen there should be some foam tape, and I wonder whether the gap between touchscreen and tft is filled with something to improve contrast and clarity and to keep out moistness(will produce rainbow effects in narrow gaps, or both are directly glued together over the whole space.
Either way, the bubbles should come from pressure on the touchscreen while hitting the hardware buttons. Will squeeze out glue from the foam tape, or whatever they use, or pump air from the out- to the inside.
Hello
I have asus zenfone 2 ze551ml,
My screen shows yellow spot on the right side, the more phone is hot, the more sharp it is,
Also it is more visible on white page than dark one.
Can anyone help me ....
Thank you.
Anyone can help !!!!!!
I have a yellow stripe on the left side of the screen, especially on white backgrounds too. It's visually similar to old crt monitors that would burn in. It appeared only recently (last month, when my device is 6 months old), and I'm assuming it is just bad quality screen... No idea how to get rid of it.
Same yellow line left side about 25mm long and 4mm width.
I thought it happened after I flashed some Rom, with thermal bugged kernel.

Exactly as you described! But I've only been on stock rom, so I think rom is unrelated.
Same here, yellow spot on bottom left corner, I think that the problem is related to the glue under the glass. Someone should try to put the display under a UV lamp for some minutes
just out of curiosity.... does it look similar to this picture?

Yes m8, exactly. Though your case is kinda awful so dark and ugly. Mine's still bright yellow, but I'm afraid it's a matter of time. Have you noticed what makes it goes darker?

no didnt notice, mine started off barely noticeable at the top, and within a month it was like that.
i sent it off for warranty repair yesterday though.
Wow, thanks for that pic darkmage1991. I saw a faint yellow line on mine in the exact same place as yours. Mine is really faint but I thought I saw something there a couple days ago then noticed it more now. I guess I'll have to watch mine and once it gets worse file a claim, what a bummer. My phone is all stock too so it's not a software issue.

its been truly bad like that for a week or so, but just now just bit the bullet and filed the RMA, but i gotta say i kinda feel like the area behind that part of the screen felt warmer, maybe someone else could verify that by opening up a demanding app like a game and seeing if that spot on the device gets warmer than the rest(maybe thats where the cpu or heat spreader is located?)
i first chatted with support about it to make sure it was covered cause just like any other device dead pixels are not covered under warranty and i wanted to make sure they didnt classify this as a dead pixel problem(even though i knew its not related they still may classify it under the same argument)
i sent the asus rep the picture of the screen and they said it was covered and made the RMA for me.
i will update the thread when i hear back from them or get my phone back, just so the info is out there if asus fixes it.
Same issue here, my screen had a very faint yellow spot on the top right corner. I also noticed that back part of the screen tends to get hot quickly. Right now the spot is almost invisible, so I think I should wait a couple of days before calling for a RMA.
figured i would update with my experience. i received my phone back on tuesday from being repaired for this same issue. they replaced it under warranty no questions asked and the phone looks brand new now. but the repair process did take 2 weeks though. from the time i sent it off to the time i had it back in my hands. so i would say there turnaround is about 6-7 days+3 days shipping back to you.
Great help
