I debranded and got OTA 2.2. Then the next day, my phone went funny. It not just constantly reboots onto the white HTC screen. I have managed to get to load AdamG' s PB99IMG file, but then it fails and says incorrect CID.
Can someone please help me with what I need to do.
I am in the UK, and happy to call someone who can talk me through the procedure.
Otherwise its gonna be an embarassing visit to T Mobile, and pretend I know nothing !!!

for the CID problem, I am pretty sure (please correct me if I am wrong) that you need a goldcard if you have not done it yet. its easy, go on google and type in, "Debranding / Unlocking an HTC Desire". Click on the first topic and fallow the instructions on creating a goldcard.
hope this helps, good luck!
Thanks for your reply, I cant make a goldcard, as i cant access the phone. So i am a bit stuck
Update.
i have managed to upload
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
and it all went through ok, but it's still stuck on the white HTC screen, if this loaded, does it mean the sd card in the device is still a ' goldcard ' ?
when i go into the bootloader screen, it says
incorrct imagine etc.
Cant access recovery mode, just hangs on white screen.
Help please !!!

I used to get the incorect Image too, everyone does (chcek some tutorial vids)
when you get into HBOOT can you scroll using vol buttons or can't you even do that?
I can get into bootloader screen, i have downgraded, and it says i have 0.80 hboot, but when trying to load an older rom, it keeps failing the bootloader

A couple of days ago i bought myself a HTC Desire. When i got it upgraded it to latest version. I used unrevoked to root the phone. Everything went well.
Then I tried the ps3 hack trick.
I did not PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP FROM THE MENU before i did this.
Cause I didnt read the howto very well.
This caused my phone to freeze at the boot screen, white with green htc logo.
After a lot of forum reading I finally got it to work again by using OpenDesire v4.0.15.
When I tried to get my phone back to stock by using RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe i got an error telling me that something is wrong with my bootloader.
I also got some error popping up when i start the phone in recovery mode.
telling me:
Loading: PB99diag.zip No image,
Loading: PB99diag.nbh No image or wrong image.
Loading: PB99IMG.zip No image,
Loading: PB99IMG.nbh No image or wrong image.
Since im a new user i cannot post the image of this screen.
Is it possible that the error in the image is connected to the fact that i cannot install stock htc?
And how can i proceed to get my phone back to stock?
Lots of questions and explaining here. Sorry for that.
Hope someone can help me out here, and this has really thought me to take backups before you do something stupid.
thoros
Whrn you get a bootloader error it means that the build number of the ROM is higher then the one in RUU file.. get one thats higher and flash! That was the priblem that I had so dont really know if that doeant work

Just unrooted mine today...
My HBOOT - 0.80
so i used this RUU:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
my hboot is 0.92 i think. Havent found rom for that oneafter searching.
Is it possible to downgrade the hboot?
U have to be sure, só enter bootloader and check, vol. Down+power if your 0.80 just run the RUU, if 0.92 u need to downgrade or find another RUU, u can find the tutorial to downgrade here in xda it's very easy if u have an unbranded phone no gold card needed ;-)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I was positive that i had 0.92. So i added the the downgrade file to the sd card.
And rebooted into recovery mode. Then it started to load the file. And i pressed volume up to confirm the upgrade. Then 1 sec later it went all black.
When i reboot now i get 1 vibrate, and then 7 vibrates. And screen is black. Not sure if I can boot into recovery mode since the screen is black.
Tried to use RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
but get error says battery too low, even though its close to 100%.
I really need some help now...
please
Ok i think your screen is slcd, not amoled, look for an workaround for this, i have read a way to correct this, i will look for it, and post the link ;-)

Ok found an workaround...
try this :
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748498
Hope it works...
Remember if your phone is unbranded like mine u dont need a gold card, just use your normal SD card to do this, there are other threads that explain how to fix this...
for each step in the tutorial wait at least 10s before doing something, because for example when u enter bootloader the phone make a search for the SAPPIMG
good luck
Hi,
I was trying to root my phone with the guide that is on this forum, but then when i restarted my phone, it was stuck on the white "HTC" boot screen. Then i tried to do a "Factory Reset" in hboot and rebooted, and still stuck on the boot screen. I tried to put a PD98IMG.zip as it was prompted in hboot as "no image or wrong file", so i loaded PD98IMG.zip onto my SD card, and still not working. any suggestions ?
my phone is S-ON.
I guess your phone is branded ? If that's the case, you need to follow the tutorial for a goldcard.
Also, if your rom is 1.7x or 1.8x, you can't root it. You have to follow the downgrade tutorial 1st
Mine took 30 mins to boot once. You could try the ruu look in dev section, you just flash it from Windows, then start again. Was your she branded?

I was in the same situation, downgraded ROM and clockwork mod and did a restore and it works fine now
@Howling Wolf - I cannot get the CID for the SD card, because
in the 'adb shell' command, my command prompt says "error: device not found". But i want to know, can i still get the CID through another HTC desire phone ? and can i still update a stock rom with S-ON ? and how do i know if my phone is branded ?
I got my phone from Taiwan, a friend brought it over for me, and when i last checked it was on software version 1.37.921.1 .
@turbo_d - ill try that thnx
did you try installing the htc sync software then do adb devices
ye i did, i installed HTC sync to get the HTC drivers, but from what i noticed is that your phone needs to be "running" instead of being stuck on the white HTC boot screen or even the hboot doesnt pick up the device aswell >.<

Try going into bootloader, and then run adb from pc..
@SAPPH1RE - i tried that but thanks for the help !
ok i acquired my CID through linux, but now its telling me
main version is older !
update fail.
any suggiestions ? my current software version of the phone is 1.37, which stock RUU should i be using ?
If you are on 1.37 you should be fine to continue with getting s-off and such. You don't need to upgrade or downgrade your ROM until you achieve s-off. And then you should upgrade to a custom ROM such as LeeDroid.

did you get it working ?
I fixed mine a few weeks back by doing a full wipe and then loading a fresh ROM
Thing is, i cant get my phone to start up, so i need to flash a stock rom, so that i can get my phone started and then do S-OFF. But it keeps telling me "Main Version is older!"
ive tried 2 roms already, 1.32 and 1.72 RUU. What could be the problem ?
thnx problem solved, the gold card wasnt done properly, so i re did everything.
thnx for the help guys !

OK, had my desire for 3 weeks on o2, did an over the air update and phone stuck on o2 splash screen, o2 no help at all so i downloaded a couple of roms:
RUU_Bravo_Froy2_UK_2.14.207.1_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed
First one did not work as gets to about 90% and gives a 110 error so tried the second one and another error in the rom update utility, phone now boots to an htc screen with 4 little white triangles in the corner. I cannot get to boot loader, what do i do? This phone has never been rooted

Can anyone help me at all. I have read for hours and nobody seems to have the problem I have. If I hold vol down and power on it just goes straight to htc logo screen. Same if I hold back and power on. I have read about gold cards but you need to access phone to make them. Just to reiterate this was a branded non rooted phone.
Any help would be appreciated

You have to make a goldcard.
Got the same problem here in germany, 4 weeks old desire by o2, small ota update of market app at 1 am, update installs, white htc bootscreen for 30 min till I removed batterie.
And it didn't went further anymore. Went into boot menu and tried everything there - nothing.
I'm an experienced windows mobile user but on android the first time so I don't look out for another rom or anything else now, so I phoned o2 the next day, they told me to flash the stock rom from their website.
I tried that, flashing routine stopped after 70 or so %, saying the ruu is damaged. Downloaded it again on another machine, tried win7 64bit, 32bit, xp in a virtual box on linux, nothing.
Phoned o2 again and within 24h my phone was changed.

I appreciate the link but it does not seem to relate to my problem, i can still see the screen but all the solutions seem to assume that you can access your phone or get into hboot/recovery.
I cannot do either, i cannot get into hboot, cannot get into recovery so impossible for me to make a gold card as i dont know anyone with a desire, cant use anything like unrevoked as you need to access the phone to go into debugging mode.
When i run the ruu it shows i currently have 2.14.207.3 and the 02 ruu that i downloaded is 2.14.207.1 but just get a 110 file error at the end and it does not complete
Any other ideas?

If phone is branded, unfortunately you have to make a goldcard.
so are you saying that i have to wait for the 2.14.207.3 ruu to be released (as i dont know anyone to make gold card) and that 2.14.207.1 ruu is not going to help me because its an earlier version?

all well and good but i cant download a market app to make a gold card as i cannot access the phone, htc are going to repair it for me now as there does not seem to be a solution
This may sound familiar to you but..
Some background. Got my Desire repaired (replaced the motherboard because of a well-known reason..). Previously I had a root access and my SD card divided to FAT\EXT. So I got my phone back, it worked perfectly but today it suddenly turned off while it was charging. Now it won't boot up. I see the darn HTC logo all the time. Did the wipe and..restore. It seems that I don't have any update.zip on my card. I have no idea what should I do. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
is your phone rooted? Were you have a custom rom or just a standard one?
Hey, no. After the repair the root was gone. Had the last OTA update installed. I just don't quite get it. Since I don't have that update.zip on the card, that means I can't really get it restored, right? So if i.e. I change my SD-card to another one. How do I get a restore image file? I'm confused..
If your phone is branded you need the goldcard to run again ruu but if it's not just download the latest software and try. maybe it'll help
try running logcat while the phone is hanging on the htc logo
it may give a clue of what is wrong

Downloads from shipped-roms.com freeze after a while. So I've found a PB00IMG.zip file in some other place. Bootloader checks the file and goes back to the main screen. No errors, no update options - nothing.

Thank you guys. As I've mentioned before my Desire isn't branded. It was bought in Lithuania unlocked and sim-free. So theoretically I don't need a gold-card. But one .img I've tried to feed em returned wrong CID error. I've downloaded that RUU and tried to run it. Phone's plugged-in but the setup drops an error (170), says it can't see the phone. Tried to do it with in the bootloader mode. Same stuff. I'm kinda messed up.
HTC says they can take it for the repair so I don't need to send it back to Lithuania, but I still think it should be fixable..
Wohoo! I've managed to get the rom.zip out of the latest RUU and fix the whole problem. Thanks guys! You made my day! We can close the thread now.
So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.
