Recover from 2.2 using nandroid backup? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I hope that this hasn't been posted before, I did search for it.
Is there any way to use a nand backup to return to rooted 2.1? My phone was rooted before and I impatiently (not fully researching the consequences) did the OTA update. The Nand backups are still on my phone and is there any way to use them to recover my phone?
Thanks for your help,
Fatty

nope. You will have to wait for someone to root 2.2

Ok, thanks for the reply.

Well, the better question is, can you get into your custom recovery?
If yes, then yes.
If no, then no.

Want to update phone, rooted with unrevoked...whats best method

Ok I have a rooted hero and my boss has the evo so I don't get to updating it much. I used unrevoked to root the phone when they first came out and have installed no updates so far. I saw I missed unrevoked2 and 3 and reading the notes on the website leaves me with more questions then answers. I tried running the recovery console from hboot but it gave me a red triangle with !.
So now I am trying to figure out how to update since I can't access the recovery screen. Can I just update to 1.42 and then run the unrevoked3 and have full root access? Any suggestions. Thanks
that sounds like it should work, do it quick though because when froyo 2.2 comes out, u might not be able to root.
and btw unrevoked 3 is not a full root, if u use simple root it is, and just as easy, might take 15 min. though
When you are at that screen with the red triangle hold volume up and press power that should get you into the boot screen.

You unlock NAND which means you can make changes to the file system. If you want to remove stock apps, make any file changes or want to install custom ROMs, then you need NAND unlocked. Careful though, it downgrades your PRI and there is NO way to upgrade it again, even if you return to stock. If you are able to do what you need with what unrevoked provides, you are better off sticking with it.

so if I don't care about running custom roms (only really interested in wireless tether) then upgrading the phone...breaking root...and then just running unrevoked3 would be my best option?
Can I just install the deodexed version of froyo released today?
Yes but you have to be fully rooted...nand unlocked...and have a recovery flashed to download that.

Dont do update 1.42....
My advise, don't update to 1.42, unistall unrevoked and do Toast root 1 and 2 method, then you'll have nand unlocked so you can flash a 1.42 rom already rooted, after that you can flash any Froyo flavor you want.

Do not upgrade manually, i repeat, DO NOT UPGRADE, it would be difficult later to get the full root
I just rooted/nand yesterday on 1.47 w/ 1 click simpleroot ota. it was super easy and painless.

The official 1. 47 yes. The official froyo 3. 26 whatever it is hell no. They have a simple root 3 step for 1. 32 dig deep in development thread. Chillin and good luck.

The only way you can update to 2.2 AND have root is to go to full root/nand unlock...
Use simpleroot imo and then flash the ROOTED stock froyo rom.

[Q] How to NAND backup my DHD, Where to get a stock ROM, Transfering Data after flash

Hi there,
I've got a rooted DHD (unbranded, on Orange in the UK) and have Radio S-Off using the one click tool. I'm thinking about custom roms (perhaps leedroid or a gingersense, but I think I'll wait and see how stock gingerbread runs on my DHD before flashing anything custom).
-How can I take a *full* backup of my phone? (NAND I think it's called?)
-What else do I need to do to my phone? Do I need ENG hboot? What does that do exactly? And what about clockwork mod?
-After I flash a ROM what do I lose? Is it like doing a factory reset? What's the best way of backing up and subsequently restoring contacts, accounts, settings, SMS and apps?
-How long does flashing a ROM take?
-Is my SD card touched in this process?
-Which Rom do you recommend and why? (My phone doesn't need any more performance I don't think btw, battery on the other hand )
-Anything else I should know?
Thanks in advanced

Install ClockworkMod recovery either directly or by ROM Manager and using th backup function in either (ROM Manager is simply a GUI for clockworkmod recovery).

Yes. It will allow you to flash radio's and other cool things.

EVERYTHING. Yes. Google syncs your contacts. TiTanium backup will backup apps but I never found it 100% successful. Better to get used to possibility of having to re-download them. There's a vast number of apps to backup SMS. I like Sprite but MyBackUp Pro is highly recommended too. As is SMS backup and restore.

I recommend Cyanogen but only you can decide what ROM you like best and your phone will tell you what ROM / Radio / Kernel it likes best.

Yes, all your questions are answered. The development thread is your friend as is the search box.
Yup, thats all about it. Lol.
If you are not sure, do not do anything. Ask first. Else you will increase the risk of bricking your phone.
Cheers mate.

So I should get ENG h-boot, or I must get ENG H-boot if I just want to flash a ROM? Could you explain flashing radios please?

[Q] Will 2.3.4 OTA break S-Off?

After searching the forum and reading many posts, it still is not clear to me if the 2.3.4 OTA (I'm being prompted for 4.06) will break S-Off.
When I rooted my Incredible using Unrevoked3, the custom recovery wasn't out yet or otherwise wasn't included. I believe that I am still running stock recovery (haven't flashed any ROMs).
If I do this update will I lose S-Off or lose root?
I know this topic seems redundant, but I haven't read a clear answer.
Thanks.
I'm wondering the same thing.
I just got the last issue on skyraider 4.3 working again, and I don't really want to start over.
This is answered in the q&a forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836120
If you are currently 's-off' the ota will NOT break root.

What if your phone is only rooted? If you update will you lose root? I don't actually own a dinc but my friends wife keeps asking me if she should update and if she will lose root if she does. Also if she has to reroot after the update do you know of any issues doing so?
I'm having enough issues trying to get everything working with rooting my htc vivid
Thanks for any help.

If the OTA actually can be accepted with your custom recovery (debatable), you would lose root IMO. I think what Stang means is that if you're s-off, you can reflash clockwork and superuser, and reaquire root easily. So it doesn't break your ability to root again.
My daughter downloaded the latest 2.3.4 and now has issues with the memory low icon. Can I downgrade to Froyo? She's finally going to let me root her phone(that I pay for).
Sorry if this isn't the correct thread for this question.
Just press install now and it will count down and not do anything

This was my experience. I managed to cp it to my SD card, before it deleted itself, and now I have to rack up a 10 post count so I can let the developers in the developer forum know I have it ready to send to whomever wants to root it and re-released it.

I guess it doesn't matter anyway. I deleted the file from /cache and now it stopped prompting me and reports I'm up to date.

[Q] Does rooting wipe?

So i have a lot of experience with htc's, and my dad has a Desire HD he wants to root so he can use Ad-Blockers etc... SO i read the sticky, but does it wipe the phone? I don't see it mentioned anywhere... Also can i just keep him on the stock rom, because it mentions flashing a new rom etc. and i don't want to do that.
