[Q] Anyway back to 2.1 or root 2.2 updated? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After just getting my Evo recently I was overly anxious to get Froyo so updated it quickly not knowing that standard rooting methods wouldn't work on it. I was wondering if anyone has found a way to go back to 2.1 or a way to root the 2.2 to install custom roms ect...?

......wait for it......

eeeeew. Who wants to do that?

As of right now there is no possible way. But give it time.
i'm looking to downgrade as well if anyone hears of anything!
I was reading about someone downgrading their nexus one froyo back to eclair using andoid sdk and some rooted sign file and a recovery file. Lucky nexus one users lol.
Anyone know anything about this?
if you want to downgrade then wait, it took a long time to root the last OTA.
If you want to upgrade and keep root, NEVER accept anything from sprint, only install from XDA or a similar forum.
The fact that this is an entire OS upgrade can either be a good or bad thing in how long it's going to take to root.
Look at it this way: If you could downgrade to 2.1, there would be no warnings or questions about how to root after flashing the 2.2 update. The answer would be "downgrade to 2.1 and root it like before."
But once 2.2 is rooted, you will most likely be able to flash a 2.1 stock or custom ROM if you wish. Just make sure you flash one that's pre-rooted.
Thanks for all the info guys, I wanted to downgrade to run cyanogen mod and overclock etc.

[Q] 3.26.651.6

I been reading around and I know you can't root a 3.26.651.3 on andriod 2.2 but can you root a 3.26.651.6 on android 2.2, if not will it be possible soon or is it something that is going to take a long time to be released?
(I am not knew to MODing, I mod consoles but never a phone)
When it happens, you'll know. It will be all over these forums. As of now, there is no root method for a stock 2.2 install of any build. If you still have 2.1, you can root that and then install a rooted 2.2 ROM, but if you already have 2.2 on your phone you have to wait until somebody finds an exploit.

[QUESTION] How to Downgrade Stock 2.2 to Stock 2.1

I have been looking around for a while for a solution to my problem but i cant find anything concrete so my last resort is to start a new thread so please bare with me.
I installed 2.2 Stock Froyo with HTC sense on my Desire and I would now like to root my phone. My understanding is that I have to go back to 2.1 in order to do this. Is this correct? Then once I am on 2.1 again then I can Root my phone. So my problem is in 2 questions:
1) Do I need to downgrade to 2.1 in order to root my stock 2.2 desire? If not, what recovery image would I use to root?
2) Otherwise If I do have to downgrade to 2.1, what is my best solution?
Thanks in advance.

Upgrade a 2.1 Rooted Evo to Froyo

I tried searching on this and closes match I could find was this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743352
However, that refers to a "Leaked" Froyo firmware. What I'm trying to do is to upgrade my already rooted 2.1 Evo to Froyo (2.2) and then root that of course
If I try to do a OTA upgrade automatically through the phone, I get an error. Anyone advise what the best method of doing the upgrade would be?
Maybe try this -

I had stock 2.2 with the latest OTA and rooted it. It was very very simple. Here's the link-

Hah. Very interesting question. Ok, so rooting lets you change the system as well as the other partitions. Froyo and eclair are both system changes, so try flashing a froyo rom. Didn't you research before rooting?
Yep, you're right. I'd blame it partly on being 1 AM and partly for not thinking it through. Thanks.

Easiest way to get to 2.3 from 2.1?

I pulled out an old Incredible out of my drawer. I was going to use it as a backup but its still on 2.1 and 2.1 is virtually useless because no apps support it any more.
What is the easiest way to upgrade to 2.3? I've read around, and see that rooting might be necessary, then install 2.3 as a ROM?
I can't find a clear answer.
It should still get OTA's. No need to root it just to get stock Sense. Try connecting to wifi and check for updates in about phone. I don't know for sure as I've never been on 2.1.
Still says I'm up to date.
