[Q] 2.2 Froyo Downgrade - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Firstly I know that there are other threads about my issues, I have been online for a few hours trying to figure this out now so I apologize in advance for this. I have a HTC incredible with radio 2.05.00.06.11 installed. Hboot version 0.77.0000, and 2.2 Froyo Installed.
I am trying to downgrade to 2.1 and the 1.x radio that was stock, in other factory default everything. However I am running into quite a few issues. Based on what I have read I need to downgrade to 2.1 first. I put PB31IMG.zip into root. Depending on where I downloaded the file, I get different results. (both of these files did work before for different things, they are not corrupted). When I boot to Hboot and the progress bar on the left appears I get 2 different results. With one file I get an error message which says that my current version is older. I am then prompted to reboot or go back. With the other file I get no message. The file finishes loading and then nothing happens, and i can choose from Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, or SIMLOCK.
After trying this I then saw on a post that I should root my phone again with unrevoked, I did and then repeated those steps again, same result. I also heard that I should not downgrade the radio to 1.x first, is this true?
Any ideas anybody?

Update:
I was just doing some more research with other phones, they mentioned a gold card? I am not sure what this is but I would like to let you know that I did format my SD Card to FAT 32.

Why are you wanting an old outdated radio?
Why not installed the latest one?
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...-2-15-00-07-28-htc-incredible-adrynalyne.html

Stock?
I just want everything official when the legit 2.2 is released.

Your fooling yourself if you think there is a difference.... but if you must....
you will have no problem running the update when it hits.... just follow the onscreen instructions.

Well....
Well.... Right after I wrote that I went and downloaded the 2.15.x update anyway and put it in the root of the SD (yes its named correctly...)
The progress bar did its thing and then nothing. I just went back to nothing like nothing ever happend. I am still stuck with 2.05.

You need to boot into hboot to install the radio file. You can't do it with rom manager.

I did
I did boot into Hboot (power off --> vol button hold and power on --> blue progress bar on top right of screen runs and then nothing happens) I also selected recovery and tried to select the zip to install manually on the SD card, but that did not work either.

Ridiculous Boot Loop - Two bricked DINCs

Both experiencing the same problem,
One UD 8.0 got stuck in loop after I tried installing Koush Kernel
2nD one is running CM6.0.1, was fine until I tried using to read Phone #1s MicroSD to figure out what was wrong.
2nd phone (CM6) then restarted randomly while plugged into PC, which started the bootloop.
Tried everything, nandroid (Couldn't mount /Data), I wiped, factory reset, tried reflashing update.zip for CM6 phone.
Both phones are completely useless, not sure what to do at this point and CM6's owner was leaving town.
Any ideas? Ultimate way to unbrick a DINC? If you know of anything, please help.
A boot loop is not a brick. I would nandroid back to stock(you did this right?) or use an RUU.

Does this mean you can get into hboot?
If yes, you should be able to ruu an official release..

I do not have a great deal of experience, but since you can get in recovery, place King Kernel #3 on your SD card, boot into recovery and apply the KingKernals #3 zip file from your SD card for the 1st phone. See if that fixes it. Just sounds like incompatibility with the kernel if it happened right after you flashed it.

UD is an AOSP Rom, King's kernel does not support it at this time.
I would try a fresh install of the 8-26 leak. Do wipe first, then do dalvik wipe under advanced settings. Get deodexed version of rom Here
If that does not work let's get some information
Did you run unrevoked forever and get S-off status?
What radio version are you using?
You should not be borked if you are getting into recovery you should be fine.
@ToyTank
BOTH phones are - 2.05.00.6.11 S-ON, Neither are unrevoked forever.
Problem with phone 1 (UD) is that the SD card is completely messed up now. It's an 8GB that has nothing on it, the compuiter is reading it at 758MB. Any function of Recovery leads to errors mounting, so flashing stuff isn't working, nandroid as well.
Phone 2 (CM6) let's me flash stuff onto it, "Install from sdcard complete." but will continue into a bootloop when I restart the phone.
I attempted RUU last night and maybe I'm doing it wrong but the software is giving me an error connecting to USB. How should I go about installing the 8-26 leak? Just wipe > throw in PB31IMG and install?
I assume I don't need unrevoked forever for this, I tried 8-26 and flashed PB31IMG.zip, Device 2 Starts dancing until it says "Main Version is older! Update Fail". Anybody know a workaround?
Try formating the sd card to FAT32 using a computer. That might help with phone #1. Error with usb can be solved using these steps.
1. Try the RUU executable. it will give you that usb error, taking you to the black htc screen.
2. Exit the ruu program (leaving phone in that state) and run it again. This worked for me when I RUU'd mine.
Who knows though. It may have been a one shot deal.
sounds like you are trying a bunch of stuff without READING about what you are doing. you flashed kernels with a rom that CLEARLY states that they will not work and then you tried to flash unsigned roms through hboot which will not work without s-off and then you try to downgrade when you have the ota leak (radio 2.05) which will not work.
you either need to get the ruu working, get s-off applied or follow the steps to go back to stock hboot.
time for you to start doing your homework to get yourself out of this mess.
Neither are bricked. Ruu back to stock.
yeah bro not good practice
@Fretless, @Lafester, @GermanBrat. Thanks for the comments - going to try RUU 3.21.605 and report back.
Hey guys RUU worked for Phone 2 (CM6) but is not playing nice with Phone 1. USB connection error. I appreciate the help so far, any more ideas for this phone?
It's basically stuck in white htc inc screen and will go no further. It's completely wiped and nothing will mount in recovery. RUU can't detect a usb connection but the PC beeps when I connect via usb

Very Unusual Problem - Can you help??? Please

Hello folks,
First of all can I say what a great site this is and how many super and generous people there are who help out twits like me every day!
I have rooted and flashed my phone many, many times, so I am not a Noob as such, though I am stuck on this one....
Here's my issue......
Got phone back from HTC repair - New motherboard - Worked fine.
HBOOT 0.93
I rooted phone using Unrevoked version 3
Then I installed LeeDroid 2.2d - latest version from XDA developers.
Phone worked fine for a few days.
I downloaded a few apps and synced calendars etc.
Then this morning - I unplugged my charger from the phone and Bang.....Phone seems to be not working, my Calendars are blank, so I decided to reboot phone.....................
Now I am unable to get past the HTC White Logo screen. AND I cannot access Recovery mode or Clockworkmod.
Though I can get to the Hboot screen by holding the down key and power.
Cannot boot into recovery though even from this menu.
The initial Recovery bit - the green writing that pops up when the phone looks at the recovery image, seems to be saying something like wrong image - Below.
SD Checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nhh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.nhh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
I have rebooted several times, but no good.
I have plugged my Desire in to PC and gone into Fastboot mode and then tried to install the Stock HTC RUU by running the exe from my computer.
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
However I just get either error 131 or Error 140 depending on which SD card I put into the phone..........
This has got me completely stumped? Am I bricked completely or is there a way around this?
Any ideas?
HELP!!!!!!!! - I thought I was good at this!
Download a PB99IMG.zip from www.shipped-roms.com
put it into the root of your sdcard and it should reflash without a problem.
Well i don't know why both your recovery and system has got corrupted without you doing a thing to it. It usually only happens if you messed something up.. Not saying you have, but now would be the time to tell
Otherwise everything you say is exactly what i would expect your phone to do.
First of all the green writing in hboot is not a look at the recovery but a check to see, if you have put a zip file with that name on the sd-card. This is just an alternative to using the ruu.exe
Second of all the stock rom you try to flash may contain an older hboot version og something similar, which is just giving you the error because you are not allowed to downgrade to an earlier software/hboot version. Try the newest one instead with your goldcard in the phone of cause.
And finally no you are not even close to a brick here seriously some people should take a deep breath and read through the forum(not specifically you but people in general. There is just too many topics with people screaming heeelp i have no idea what i did to my phone). Theres plenty of solutions, and it is quite hard to actually brick the phone. Unless you actually tried pulling the battery while flashing a hboot or radio update almost any other software problems are easily solved, because of the way this system is build.
edit: and if you try the above suggested by h3llb3nd4. You should be aware that your phone model on that page is bravo and not desire, which is the cdma desire. So if your phone has a sim card you should pick bravo. You still have to choose one with a similar or newer software and hboot version than your current.
Hi guys,
The latest with the saga is.
I managed to get the latest Froyo RUU to run and install successfully on my phone.
However - Phone still will not get past the HTC white screen, it just sticks there.
I am pretty much out of ideas now?
h3llb3nd4, thank you for your advice, I will give this a go, but as I cannot access any menu's to do a reflash I'm not sure I understand how this can help me? - Not that I'm saying it won't, it's probably my lack of knowledge.
Otherwise, I have to say this phone seems to be a big trouble. I mean even a successful RUU install and still no reboot? Weird
Thanks so much for your help and advice...keep those ideas coming

Well I tried this, and placed the zip file onto the root of SDCard. However then I restarted phone and it simply stuck at the HTC screen as before?
Do I need to do anything else? - I cannot access recovery to install from zip card.
Do I need to unzip the zip file? or maybe rename it?
Also I am now installed with the latest froyo Bravo RUU Rom 2.10, so the image file that is for 1.21 may not be right for this?
Help........
Put PB99IMG.zip on to the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader (power on with vol down held down).
The bootloader will automatically scan the SD card root for an update file and install it. That should get your back to running stock again.

Hi Bigstoo,
Sooo close, it actually started reading the PB99IMG.Zip file. However it failed to update sadly.
The error message was "update fail"
Could this be that the ROM image that is on the phone is a higher one than this PB99IMG file? Is there one that is suitable for use with

Right I have found the correct PB99IMG file for my current stock Rom.
The phone found it in Bootlaoder and went right through the installation process correctly and successfully......................
Outcome - Phone still not working at stuck at the HTC White screen.
I would say it's now looking like hardware issue to me? I cannot think of anything else that might get this bloody phone to work again...............

[Q] What should I do? Needs Help with radio, h-boot, and s-off/s-on

I do have a working phone, rooted and running just fine. I think I may have a screwy configuration though. I'm not sure how I ended up this way, besides just being a little too careless last time I was messing with my phone. Nonetheless, I'd like to get to the latest radio, h-boot, and s-off so that I can once again start flashing new roms. I'm just not sure in what order to do these steps without bricking my phone. I don't need a detailed walk-through, just a little guidance will go a long way. I've tried to unroot my phone and just start from scratch, but I get the error "Main version is older," and I haven't been able to find out how to get past that. I tried searching the forums and tried a few things, but nothing worked and it just made me more paranoid that I'd screw my phone up completely. Sorry for all the uncertainty that follows.
Current configuration:
rooted with unrevoked* (3, I think)
s-on
hboot - 0.77.0000
radio - 2.05.00.06.11
SkyRaider Sense Rom (3.0 RC3 I believe)
Clockwork recovery* (older version, about 3-4 months ago)
Custom kernel (don't remember which)
*I rooted when the leaked OTA came out, if that gives anymore indications.
Thanks and my bad for being an idiot...
As long as you didn't load the latest OTA patch(NOV2010) you should have no problem updating your phone. Remember I can't be held responsible if something goes wrong, as always doing these steps are risky and the liability is on you.
DO A NANDROID BEFORE YOU DO ANY OF THESE STEPS, just in case..
1. Run Unrevoked Forever. Follow steps here.
You should now have S-Off
2. Go to the Market and download ROM Manager.
3. In ROM Manager click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
This will update ClockworkMod to the latest version.
4. Download HBOOT 0.92 here.
5.Place the PB31IMG.zip file in the base of your SD card.
6. Power off phone. Hold DOWN volume and press power. HBOOT should see the file and ask if you want to update, choose update and let it do its thing.
HBOOT .92 should be installed now.
7. Delete the PB31IMG.zip from your SD card and your computer
8. Download the 2.15.00.09.01 radio here.
9. Put the new PB31IMG.zip file in the base of your SD card.
10. Power off phone. Hold DOWN volume and press power. HBOOT should see the file and ask if you want to update, choose update and let it do its thing.
You should now be fully updated and be able to install any custom ROM you want.
When ever you flash to a NEW ROM your kernel will be updated.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Thanks ctinsley. I'll give those directions a shot and let you know when I have a fully updated phone again.
And after 1 problem, explained below, my phone is back to its kick-butt asewome self. Thanks again.
Encountered 1 Problem:
So everything ran smoothly except for the HBOOT update. It updated, but then was stuck in a HBOOT loop, and wouldn't start up. Doing my research, I came across a similar situation. Someone recommended going to advanced restore and restoring the HBOOT. I did this, and it worked for me. Rebooting in HBOOT verified that I had HBOOT 0.92 working on my phone. The original poster said that didn't work for him though, and that he "did a complete nandroid backup and everything is fine. When I boot to hboot it says it is 92." Not sure if he meant backup or restore though.
if you want an easier way to update h-boot and radio then download this fine and load throught hboot. no other steps needed

ClockworkMod Recovery not loading

Hi,
I hope this isn't a repeat, but I've searched here and Google to no avail. It may be I'm not searching the right things, because I'm not quite sure how to succinctly describe this problem.
I've rooted my DInc, with S-Off enabled. I'm running CyanogenMod 6.1 now, installed from ROM Manager, which is no version 3.0.0.7. I've got ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2 installed as well. When I first rooted my phone, etc. about a month ago, I made a nandroid backup, so I figure its time to make another one. Open ROM Manager, go to Make a New Backup, choose a file name, it reboots into Fastboot. If I then select "Reboot" by pressing the Power button, the phone boots back to Cyanogen and there is no (new) backup file in the clockworkmod/backup directory, where I expect it.
If I select "Bootloader" from the Fastboot menu, it takes me to the HBoot menu, with the options "Fastboot", "Recovery", etc. Then, an error message appears very quickly, about missing PB31IMG.zip files. I'm not sure about the exact text of the message since it disappears so quickly, but I've searched around and it seems to be because that file is missing from the root of my sd card (I checked on Windows, its not because the file is renamed to .zip.zip or something). Solutions such as formatting the sd card to FAT32 (it is, according to Windows) and reflashing ClockworkMod from ROM Manager do not help.
After the error message disappears, I am able to select "Recovery" from the HBoot menu, and the screen flashes the white with black text "HTC Incredible" startup screen before dropping me back into the Fastboot menu. At this point, I usually just give up and reboot and keep using the phone as normal.
Does anyone have any idea where the problem lies? Can someone link me to the proper PB31IMG.zip file for my phone/ROM/radio?

Flashing back to 2.5.1.1 appears to have worked...does anyone have any idea why 2.5.1.2 is apparently broken (probably just on my device)?
Thanks!
I've seen other people reporting problems with 2.5.1.1 & 2.5.1.2 on amoled devices. They've suggested going back to 2.5.0.5.

I have the exact same problem, except my hboot reports as 0.78 I believe. Either way, the hboot menu is as far as I can get. Any other selection causes continual reboots. This started happening after a spontaneous reboot while driving down the road. I wasn't even using the phone. I do have the latest Clockwork on it, but it really doesn't matter because I can't get to the Clockwork menu anyway. Just the fastboot menu.
It says that USB is enabled in the hboot menu, but with it plugged into my PC, it won't show up in Windows. It's obviously not far enough into the boot cycle to do that.
Any suggestions would be awesome. I see about a dozen other topics started complaining about similar issues. If I leave it sit on the hboot menu, it'll sit there forever and is stable, so I don't believe it's a phone issues. It's almost like, if it were a PC, the boot sector is messed up and it needs an fdisk /mbr. I understand, that doesn't work, I'm just pointing out that I believe the behavior to be the same.
Thanks to anyone that can help!
I guess that, with no way to get into Clockwork and no way to replace Clockwork, I'm kind of stuck. Replacing Clockwork was an idea, but I'm not sure how to do that since hboot is all that's available and I can't choose any options without it rebooting continually. Is there a way to just plug the phone in and reflash Clockwork from my laptop with a Windows app on the laptop?

Do you have Rom Manager installed on your phone? If you do you can always use the last option to install a different version of Clockwork. Give that a try...
I can't get past the "hold down and power" menu. That works fine, but anything I pick reboots the phone. I can't get into the OS at all because it just continually power cycles after I choose from the boot menu. I re-flashed Clockwork and no luck and I've re-flashed the entire phone to stock, same thing. It IS stable and the recovery menu you though. I can jump around in the menu, turn USB on and off, etc, just not boot into anything. It's literally like a computer that needs fdisk /mbr as all of the data seems to be where it should be.
I would try to flash any custom and see if that gets the phone to boot normally.
I took the stock build-3.26.605.1-release-152016-baseband-2.15.00.07.28-hboot-0.92.0000 and zipped it as PB31IMG.zip and when it boots, it'll take the images and flash them. It flashes all of the images in the zip and it takes a little bit to do that. Then it goes back to the menu and I restart it and it goes into the cycle again...
Hmmm. I would have used the unrooting guide to go back to stock just to get the phone back up and running and then unroot it again. If you do go that route DO NOT apply the 7.28 radio again because you will brick you phone being that you already have that radio flashed on your phone. What custom ROM or Kernel were you running before all this happened? I would try flashing that again but clear the data and cache first and see if that gets the phone up again.
I'm currently running the latest Senseless Revolution ROM and did upgrade to the latest ROM manager, but haven't flashed anything yet so no problems........yet!
Should I downgrade to CW 2.5.1.2 anyways since it was a bit sluggish when checking for MDsum?
I've read about some people having crazy problems and others actually not reporting anything bad......so what is the verdict? I'm trying to prepare myself first rather than finding out when my phone is stuck
I seem to be having some of the same problems. I upgraded ClockworkMod to 3.0.0.5 and was able to successfully boot into recovery. I installed CM 7 nightly, then ended up restoring to a backup of CM 6.1.
Now I can't access recovery, when I try I get stuck at the white droid incredible screen. My phone can still boot up so I tried downgrading ClockworkMod to 2.5.1.4, but it says an error occurred while flashing the recovery.
any ideas?

[Q] Help please! DHD not booting past bootloader, **Video Included**

Hi, I need some help with my Desire HD.
I've been running Android Revolution for nearly a year now and had 6.1.5 running well until about a fortnight ago.
Initially, the volume keys started malfunctioning and the volume down would get stuck. Occassionally, the phone would freeze and I'd have to take the battery out and reset, and it would seem fine except the date was set to 11:00AM on January 1, 1980. Same date and time every time. Strange!
In the past week some processes have been failing, some downloaded apps and some google service framework. The phone then rebooted itself into bootloader and when i tried to reboot it would just loop back in to bootloader. after 10 or so reboots it would eventually boot back up properly.
Yesterday I ran SuperWipe and reinstalled Revolution 6.1.5 and things seemed to be running smoother. Then my phone froze again and is now stuck in the bootloader and nothing will work. The volume up key works nearly always and the volume down key has occasionally worked with alot of force, but i think this problem may be seperate to the software issues.
I once selected Reboot Bootloader and rebooted to a weird fuzzy static screen.
I've recorded a video of what is happening and posted it here: h tt p:// youtu.be/Sgp8pYin6yY
I've also posted a picture of the green text that flashes up in bootloader, I'm not allowed to post links so please go to the link in the comments on the youtube video.
From looking at other forum topics I think loading an RUU could be a solution, but I'm not sure how to do that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Bickers
to flash an ruu or its pd98 equivilent is simple.
For an RUU what you do is in hboot select fastboot. then Plug in your phone and run the RUU.exe from your pc.
OR
If you prefer the PD98 method. what you do is place the pd98 file in the root of your sd card(not in a folder). boot into hboot. and hit up to accept the installation
its your choice on which RUU to flash but personally i would choose either the new sense 3.0 3.12 or the sense 2.1 2.50.
One thing to note is the issue with your volume down. If you still have warranty on it, i would get it replaced
Making RUU into .exe or PD98IMG.zip
Ok I think it's best for me to reinstall the original Vodafone Rom.
The "The Complete Guide 2 Return Rooted Phone Back 2 Stock for Vodafone Australia Warranty" guide relies on using Clockworkmod - which I can't get into because my phone won't boot past bootloader.
I have downloaded the 1.32 ROM from the above thread and it's a zip file but I need to know how to get it into either RUU.exe to run through my computer or PD98IMG.zip to run through bootloader.
Do I simply rename it PD98IMG.zip?
I've been searching and reading lot on RUUs and unrooting etc. but can't figure out how to do it.
I also have a goldcard that I created last time I flashed a custom ROM but I can't find the guide that I followed and I'm not sure if I need a goldcard.
Please take the time to help me and provide step by step instructions of how to take the 1.32 Vodafone AU ROM back up and install it onto my phone through bootloader.
Thanks a million and one!
No you can't rename that zip and flash in hboot. Unfortunately you need access to cwr to do that method.
I think first we should try and get you back up and running on any rom before you decide to go back to stock. Unfortunately for you their isn't a ruu for vodafone au to make it and easier process.
So for now try and reflash cwr and or a different ruu, to atleast get you in a working state. Give me a min to find a link to a guide to see if that will help you
Edit- try this

Use the mirror links in the second post. If you have no way to transfer the files use the ruu method at the end. Links to the wwe and hopefully faster links are found in my last post in the thread
Partition Update Fail!
Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately when I try to flash the PD98 of the recovery image I get Fail-PU in red next to BOOTLOADER and RECOVERY.
and "Partition Update Fail!" in black underneath.
I also tried another recovery pd98 and got the same thing. About to try the RUU method from the PC, but if that doesn't work i'm not sure what to do
