Flashing from a MICROSD - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

I have an older version of NSF's rom, I want to upgrade to the last one he made in March.
Previously I have used my usb cable to do it. What would I name the ROM to make sure it flashes?
I already have the latest bell radio and phone is already unlocked.
Thanks in advance!

Am guessing you have a Touch/Vogue since you are in the Touch forums!
1) on root of SD card - copy the nbh file here and name it VOGUIMG.NBH
(It can be upper/lower case - don't matter)
2) power-camera-reset button til bootloader screen pops up
3) bootloader should see the VOGUIMG.NBH file and give instructions from there.
You just have to hit the d-pad key I believe, to start the process
Once the flash is complete - quick power-camera-reset again
After you are in the rom and all setup - delete the VOGUIMG.NBH file.

as per following thread link

I came to know from following
"Update: Do not download or install The Manipulator unless you have a serial cable already, and need to reset the call counters or change the IMEI on phones with Radio software prior to 4.20. To remove the SIMlock, simply install the XDA-developers Special Edition ROM, which, apart from unlocking the device, adds lots of other extras. Look at the forum for details on where to get it"
I think I must have "Special Edition ROM" which is not available right now. "I am downloading XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe" but Its for new xdaII I think, it might not work for xdaI.
some other I have downloaded are,
*Unlock XDA manipulator program.zip (contains XDAmSetup.exe)
*XDAunlock.exe (of 19k, which is not working I have tried it. )
*XDAunlock-src.zip (I have download this 2 months back but dont know what is it for).
my phone details

rom date : 01/01/04

Please tell me what should I do.

That is the right file. It's designed for the xda I devices and is able to unlock your device.
There are several places to download it. You can get it via edonkey, should be announced somewhere here on this site, or you can get it from me.... http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/tools/special_rom_1.2.exe.zip

Same as above, but this is the sourcecode, for modyfing, or self compiling....

Stefan
thanks for the gr8 help man.
what you suggest me to do for unlocking now.
can you tell me small stepwise procedure because I have many following files and dont know which one should I use first. I am very new and I dont want to take risk, I came to know that procedure can permanent damage my pdaphone, I dont have serial cable yet I am going to buy it rightnow.
Thanks
Just download the XDA-developers Special-Edition ROM 1.2 and install it on your device. (just run the exe)
This should install a new rom on your device (based on 3.17.03) and this ROM includes the xdaunlockk tool. This will automaticly started at the first boot, so that your device will be unlocked.
Test it if it's really unlocked, afterwards you can upgrade your ROM to any version you want. If you don't have an image of your rom you cann cook your own rom at http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org or you can save your old rom before flashing the xda-developers rom to an SD-Card and use that for flashing back....

as per your instruction in given link.

there is no need of manipulator I think because I can unlock by othere way as you given.
what I will do is.
1. will backup my original rom.
2. install new SE 1.2 rom which can be install without serial cable I think as per you.
3. this rom included unlock tool inbuilt and can unlock my phone.
is this work.
and please tell me what is "XDArit (XDA ROM Image Tool V1.2)"
is it available here http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/tools/

XDArit shoud be old program to write ROMS on SD-Cards.
This tool is included in the XDATools. You can get it also from my site....
Stefan
ok I am going to install special editon rom 1.2 with usb today.
as per following tutorial step.
Backup the existing bootloader and operating system using card reader
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Insert a blank SD card into the XDA
2) Do a hard reset (hold on/off key then press the soft-reset button) click on Contacts button and choose 'CE+BOOT TO SD', and press the action button to backup the ROMs.
3) Once complete, remove the SD card from the PPC and insert it into the card reader.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have now back of rom in my 256 mb sd card.
after backup my sd card is not redable not in reader and in phone, so confused again and not sure that rom is there or not . please suggest if any other backup method.
ok, as per status if its in sd card then how can I restore is in to the phone again If somthing will happen wrong while installing se_rom_1.2.
You should be able to read the card via XDATools.
The format of the Card is in a special way, to get the bootloader of the xda to read the file and flash it back on your device.
You can test it by pressing power button and doing a soft reset. Then bootloader should come up and will tell you, that he found a ROM on your card and asks you if you want to install it.
Entering the bootloader deletes all data on your device....
But if you're going to flas a new ROM on your device it's not important...
Stefan
I stuck in "Create a V5.15..." pls help
To LumpiStefans and all guys,
Your instruction to unlock SX-56 is impressive. I did perform the "backup ROM" procedure successfully although it quite not the same as you directed, cuz I using ImageTool V1.0.5, but, I stuck in "Create a V5.15 Boot Loader ..." Below are my problems:
1/ I did find the "bootloader_v5_15.nb0 from the self-extracting zip downloadable here in the 'binaries' folder" as you quoted but when I attempt to write to my SD card by Image Tool V1.0.5, I got the message " Unsupported file format, don't know how to how to read the sourcefile..."
2/ Couldn't find XDA ROM Image Tool V1.02. Was it replaced by V1.0.1 or 1.05?
3/ There is no "radio button for 'before 5.17 (1K)'"
3/ therefore, I couldn't do the following steps:
-Select SD Card from the dropdown & Choose 'Write to SD card'
-Click on the radio button for 'before 5.17 (1K)'
-Click the 'Bootloader' checkbox
-Click the '...' button and browse to the 'bootloader_v5_15.nb0' file
-Click 'OK' to write the bootloader ROM to the SD card..
BTW, I did have my new ROM cook downloaded. Just waiting for your suggestion to solve the above problems. Your help is highly appreciated!!!
Big thanks!

how do you reinstall tilt software

ok heres what happened first i installed hardspl and then i changed my radio to 1.27.14.09 and when i restarted my att tilt the att stuff went on then nothing it never went to the main screen, now how can i reinstall a radio or just the att stock software without using activesync
Go to the bootloader - check the wiki for instructions. Connect your computer to the Tilt - you should see "USB" below the tri-color screen. Install the new ROM or radio. PM me if you have problems.
P.S. The answers to any problems you find are readily accessible in the Kaiser section.

Check the wiki for sd flash. You kan rename the nbh file to KAISIMG.nbh and put it on a sd then goto bootloader and it asks you to install.
im sorry what's wiki and also I can't find software that will let me download the software without activesync does anyone have a link I can use
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
You should be able to find everything you need here.
i tried everything there, theirs just one problem i cant find a rom that i can use without activesync does anyone have one
When you attach the cable and go to bootloader - does it say "USB" below the tri-color screen? If so, you have communication and can flash.
What do your three lines say at the top of the bootloader (red section)?
it does say usb my computer is reading the phone i just cant find a rom that doesnt use activesync, nothing with RUU_Sign.nbh, i did use hardspl the 3 lines say
KAIS1*0 MFG
SPL-1.0.01iPof
CPLD-8
i do have a microsd card i can try and upload it through their but there is stil the problem with no activesync
so can anyone help me here
ok, since i never really seen this question answered directly anywhere, you get this freebie
how to extract the RUU_Signed.nbh file
If its a cooked rom, the file you download will *usually* be a .rar file, extract the contents with winrar. depending on how the cook packaged it, it may not be named RUU_Signed.nbh, but it will still be a .nbh file
If its an original shipped rom, the file you download will be a .exe file, again, extract the contents with winrar. There will be a bunch of files and the RUU_Signed.nbh will be one of them.
if i downlaod the original rom it just opens up a program to install it how can i extract it without using the program to connect to my phone
omg!!!!!
1. install winrar
2. right click on the file you downloaded
3. choose "extract here"
then do the flashing using the microsd card

How to I install NFSFAN's Bell ROM??

I have downloaded the RAR file, but after taking a look at it I can see that it is not like any ROM updates provided by Bell. Can anyon some instruction or point me to another thread that explains this??
Thanks
1)after you download it just extract the file in a new folder
2) Then goto that folder and u will "ROMUpdateUtility" double click on that.
3) just follow the instructions that appears on your computer screen after.
I'm thinking he probably doesn't have WinRAR.
loll thenn ill add another step:
4) download WINRAR and extract the files.
then follow my other other steps.
Do the CDMA Roms require a HARDSPL to flash them? I want to flash a CMDA NSFAN Rom to my friends Vogue and I dont see an stickies for flashing a CDMA rom. I normally spend most of my time in the Kaiser/Raphael Forums.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel
So I just did a ton of research on the web because the wiki is useless and might as well not exist.
I am using a Sprint HTC Touch with the official Sprint WM6.1 ROM from HTC.
So after my research, this is what I got (Please correct me if I am wrong):
1. Run 2.31.Coke and unlock the phone via USB/ActiveSync
2. Download NSFAN's latest Sprint WM6.1 Rom and extract to desktop
3. Rename ROMFILE.nbh to voguimg.nbh
4. Copy voguimg.nbh to MicroSD card that has been formatted to FAT32
5. Insert MicroSD card in phone, and enter bootloader via holding down the Power/Camera/Reset buttons all together.
6. Flash ROM
7. Hard Reset Phone
8. Enjoy
So to the everyday flasher here on the Vogue forum, are these steps correct? And if so, why dont you take the time to update the wiki so people dont have to ask the same repetitive question 1000 times?
I just cant believe that this forum has zero ROM flashing stickies, or and updated wiki.
Either way, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Daniel

You are correct, but you do not need to do steps 3 thru 5. After you extract the ROM on your desktop simply doubleclick the RUU utility and it will update your ROM. (you must still be connected via USB to computer) If you want to flash from your storage card instead then do steps 3 thru 7.
I have a bell phone,
and the color screen says .36 and Security Unlocked.
do i have to unlock the phone still ?
its a bell phone, and it was like that when i got it.
does this mean its unlocked?

By the way, who needs WinRAR when you can get 7-Zip, the best all-around file compression/decompression tool around! And it's free. Opens almost anything out there all in one program.

hey..
i just had a quick question.. is it possible to switch back to the original BELL rom after you upgrade to NFS rom? i know a lot you might think why would you even wanna do that? But I was just wondering just incase..
Absolutely very easy just flash it like the instruction of a stock rom would require you too

[Q] Confused and Overwhelmed. After some Clarity!

Hello!
I recently purchased a HTC Desire HD through a carrier in Australia after being a nokia dumbphone owner for my "connected life". I have done some reading into the Custom ROM scene and I am loving the potential benefits and modifications that are possible with them, however being new to Android, new to Smartphones and new to Custom Roms I am to say the least a little confused.
I decided this carrier added bloatware just has to go and after a little reading I like the idea of LeeDrOiD HD v1.2.
I have attempted to follow the instructions in the Leedroid HD thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842802
Which tells me i Need to flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842819
Which in turn tells "You will need the ENG HBOOT installed on your device to flash this recovery!"
and of course I could not find any details on what ENG HBOOT is let alone how to install it.
How deep does the rabbit hole go Alice? The multiple tears are becoming confusing and complicated and I am wondering if this is just a LeeDroid thing, or are these steps necessary for all custom roms? Or just the Desire HD. I am fairly confident with the safety of replacing a rom but the more steps by more people are adding uncertainty in the safety of the whole procedure and of course raising the probability of an under informed and maybe slightly reckless newby to brick a perfectly acceptable phone.
Is anyone able to reccomend a resource to better acquaint a Newby with this new territory? Is thier a more comprehensive guide to installing LeeDroid or "Rom-ing" an android phone.
Hi,
Give me a few minutes to pull together a few guides for you.
This Guide with Video is very helpful at performing all the little tasks that allow you to flash custom ROMs.
In short the ENG HBOOT allows the flashing of an unsigned recovery "Clockwork Mod", which then allows you to flash custom ROMs. Flashing the ENG HBOOT is a one time process, once you have done it there is no need to do it again.
Just a few questions,
1). Do you have a Stock HTC Unbranded & Unlocked ROM or a Carrier Branded ROM?
2). Have you rooted you DHD yet?
This is the way I personally went about the whole process, its a guide that zexbig posted and can be found HERE
Summary:
1) Download Paul's Visionary+ tool (I have used version r12) (google removed this app from market) so You will have to download it from Paul's website.
This tools enables root and removes new HTC protection.
2) Install engineering version of HBOOT to get S-Off (HTC bootloader, something like BIOS for Your PC)
This step is optional and it's not required in order to flash custom ROM's on Your DHD but gives You more freedom with Your device.
3) Install custom recovery image (recovery is special program which is invoked from HBOOT
in order to flash ROM onto Your device.
Detailed description:
1) Download Paul's Visionary+ tool
1.1) Click here to download http://android.modaco.com/content/ht...ne-click-root/ or download it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1290501865
1.2) Install Visionary+ on Your DHD
1.3) Run it, enable "Set system r/w after root
1.4) Click "Temproot Now!" - Wait until it's finished
1.5) Click Attempt Permroot Now!
1.6) DHD automatically reboot's
To test that everything went fine download from market application "terminal emulator"
run it, type su
If You get after that sign # it mean's that everything went fine.
Time for next step!
2) Install engineering version of HBOOT to get S-Off
2.1) Download sfjuocekr DHD script for flashing HBOOT from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835746
2.2) Unzip it and copy it to Your SDCard (It's important that You have on Your SDCard root directory with name DHD and all files inside this directory.
(I have run into the strange problem for which I'm not sure is it problem with my PC or DHD, each time when I connected my DHD via USB cable my SDCard was automatically mounted as Disk Drive instead of just being in "Charge only" mode. I resolved this by removing back cover and ejecting SDCard and inserting it again while phone was operational, which is very unsafe thing to do!).
2.3) Run Terminal Emulator
2.4) Type su
2.5) Type "sh /sdcard/DHD/check
(Please be aware that You have to type "sh" in front of command)
2.6) If everything went OK type
sh /sdcard/DHD/backup
2.7) If this also went OK proceed with
sh /sdcard/DHD/hboot
This command will install engineering hboot which have S-Off turned off.
3) Install custom recovery image
3.1) Since ROM manager now officially support's Desire HD, we will use it to download and install custom clockwork image.
3.2) Run android market app on Your DHD and download and install ROM Manager app from market.
3.3) Download and install ROM manager.
3.4) Run ROM manager and select first option (Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery).
3.5) Wait until ROM Manager say's that installation went successfully (Current version of ClockWorkMod is 2.5.1.3)
3.6) After installation tap in Rom manager option Reboot into Recovery to test that everything went well.
3.7) DHD should reboot in clockwork recovery manager.

-Visionary is now v14+, not 12 as posted.
If you have any problems, just let us know.
Quick Response thanks!
It is unfortunatly a Carrier Branded rom. Full of widgets that are just links to webpages. What is even worse is I bought my phone through a company who leases lines off the carrier so because I am technically not with the carrier I can't use their aps even if i wanted to.
I believe I have temp rooted it so far. I have downloaded VISIONary +
Epic.. Thank you kindly. I am in the process.
I don't understand why carriers have to ruin the whole "Android Experience" by bundling awful apps that nobody wants, otherwise they would of downloaded them themselves.
The last guide I posted is the one I used. Once you have followed all of the steps then your in a position to flash a custom ROM. If you are planning to overclock or underclock then you will also need to find a suitable "Kernel" to flash with your ROM. Most ROMs do come complete with a custom kernel but that may not be the best for your particular needs.
Once bit of advice. Always, always a backup of your ROM before you flash anything else.
Flashing custom ROMs is easy once the above steps are complete.
1). Download your chosen ROM.
1a). Optional Download your chosen Kernel.
2). Transfer ROM (+ Kernel) to your SD Card, place in the root of the card.
3). Boot into Recovery. Power off (Ensure HTC Fast Boot is disabled), Power on whilst holding VOL DOWN, using volume keys select Recovery, press power to enter.
4). Create Backup, backup and restore > backup.
5). Wipe All Data including cache
6). Install .zip from SD Card, Select the correct ROM zip and confirm.
7). Optional, repeat with Kernel, if necessary.
8). Reboot.
9). Bask in glory, you have conquered your smartphone.
Again, if you want more info feel free to ask. We all had to learn once, or twice.
For Clarification on HBOOT loading.
I do want to be viewing the Android device as a disk drive?
Secondly Do I create a folder on the SD card in the root directory called DHD and then drop the 3 files contained in the Zip file into that folder?
Example
Root Directory
>.data
>Alarms
>Android
>bugreports
>DCIM
>DHD --Newly created folder
>>DHD-dumb --dragged and dropped
>>DHD-smart --dragged and dropped
RTFM.txt --dragged and dropped
>downloads
etc..
Yes you do want to view it as a disk drive.
You are also correct with the folders.
SDCard/DHD/ - place files here -
Ok my description failed.
Instead of the folders listed above
">>DHD-dumb --dragged and dropped
>>DHD-smart --dragged and dropped
RTFM.txt --dragged and dropped"
should I be taking the contents of (smart or dumb?) and placing that in the DHD created directory?
obviously the commands in the terminal dont correspond to having the files in a sub folder. I appologise for you having to answer obvious questions however I am a little weary of bricking.
I'd rather you post a question and get it answered before you post a problem and have an expensive paperweight.
Take the "DHD-smart" folder from wherever you extracted it, place that on your SD Card, then rename that folder to just "DHD".
Excellent. All Is working as planned. I'm in the process of D/L ing Leedroid rom.
Thanks for your help again.
I'll post back once I have things up and rolling.
No problem at all.
Just remember to make a backup from within "Recovery", it will save you one day.
I appologise I forgot to Post back.
Everything is running sweetly now, absolutley no bugs with the Root or new LeeRoid rom.
Thanks again for your help.

I got desire hd yesterday. It's rooted and running this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
I want to unroot it and install stock rom.
Btw, i downloaded RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed but when i run it i get this error about battery being less than 30% and i know it's full.
I have been reading various guides and no success..
Step by step tutorial would be great as i could'n find one...
THANK YOU!
ok... i did it. this guide:
Flashing Android RUU Update Using HBoot
- First you need the RUU.exe that you intend to install.
- Run the RUU as administrator.
- Tick the 'I understand the caution indicated above...' box, and click next.
At this point do not go any further!
- Navigate to C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp (Replace xxxxx with yours - AppData is a hidden folder)
You should see one or two folders like this: {E328FA5C-81C2-4B70-96AE-D5418A9A5B75}
- Go into the one with "dotnetinstaller.exe" in it.
- Open up the next folder. (like this : {50F2F878-636A-496F-A7CB-544C067E0C4B}
- Copy "rom.zip" into another folder (outside of temp).
- At this point just Cancel and quit the ROM Update Utility.
- Rename the "rom.zip" to "PD98IMG.zip" and put it on to the root directory of your MicroSD card in your phone.
- Shut down the phone.
- Press the Power button + Volume down button at the same time and hold them untill you get to HBOOT (white screen with skateboarding android).
- Wait for the HBOOT to parse the zip file.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and boot into newly flashed device.
Thanx everyone on this forum!
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks!
Your tutorial worked also for me!
