Can someone tell me what this file does. - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This file is from the new ota update from tmobile which patches the root process that we have the file is located
/etc/firmware
And named
Tiinit_7.2.31.bts
That is after it is installed
And is it safe to remove I'm at work right now so I don't have access to a computer but if someone that isn't rooted and is all stock + ota can remove this and then try the root process id be most appriecative.
That is if you even can remove it.

I believe that's a firmware file for the radio chip (by texas instruments). If I'm right, you'd be pretty sorry if you removed it.

New software update, can't update

My SGS2 got a software update from t-mobile, and when i try to install it, it goes to the clock work recovery mod. How do i update my phone? Thanks for the help!
I believe you need stock recovery to do the OTA update. If you're rooted, it's probably just better to grab one of the updated roms from the development forum and flash it. That's what I did instead of going through the hassle of un-rooting and updating.

Judging by the fact that you have CWM, I'm assuming you have a custom rom. If that's the case, you can prevent the update notices by using ANY root file explorer ( I use ES as its free on the market) and backup/delete both /system/app/ wssysync apk's. The nagging update will be gone ;-)

Here's the ota EK02 to EL29 stock flash.

Download the files with computer, not the phone. Downloading on the phone often corrupts the file even though it says it downloaded successfully. Just unrar it and rename it to update.zip
I don't know which card the stock recovery uses, so I would remove any sd card you might have in the phone. Copy the file to the root directory of the internal card. Boot into stock recovery and choose the update.zip choice.
This was received on a stock ek02 not rooted phone. This will most likely break root if you have it on ek02.
Just upload it somewhere.

Is this the official update? I'm not rooted and I haven't been able to get the ota. When ek02 was leaked we were able to rename it to update.zip and flash from stock recovery.

I just md5'd the two modems, the flash and the update, and they are the same.
Yes, this is the official. Rename to update.zip and put in the root folder of the internal sd. I would pull the other sd card out just in case if you have one. Boot into stock recovery and choose the update thingy. I highly doubt if you go to el29 that you will be able to root in the future. You'd be better off odin el29 then with autoroot, flash the el29 cwm recovery.
What's the total size of the zip after unzipping. Downloaded the files not sure what program to use to join them

If you google it, choose the one for rarlabs
24mb in size (the update)

You're better off downloading patches, roms and anything that you flash the phone with on your computer and not the phone. Many times, even though it says the download was successful on the phone, the file can be corrupted and flashing it could really bork things up.

If you can read and follow directions then you shouldn't have any problems. Just a tip, when you are flashing with Odin, don't move the computer, USB cable or the phone. If the cable momentarily loses connection while flashing.... You will have a mess on your hands. It's not hard, just follow directions.
I am stock unrooted and if I install this update, will I still receive the OTA update? Also how do I go into recovery after i've downloaded the files?

That is my same concern. So if you do the OTA update then you are prevented from rooting the phone. Now why would Sprint do that. If I am not mistaken on all the other updates you were not prevented from rooting but in EL29 you are.
Am I wrong in this thinking?
I used the auto update and root method ( non odin ) and it worked great when I upgraded to EK02.
If I am correct that Sprint is now preventing root then they have a reason to this. Does Sprint have something to hide now.
In the autoroot post, it said after a certain release there isn't a root for it because the exploit was plugged. If you're impatient and want the ota early and you have no intentions of rooting in the future, then use it. If you want root and el29 then get a custom rom or the stock rooted flash or the odin flash.

I came from multiple HTC phones too and using sfhub's stock rooted was beyond easy. He has one that preserves your data, like doing an upgrade, and one that wipes everything. I wanted to start over so chose the one that wipes everything, but regardless the process was simple. Extract the file, double-click, put the phone in download mode, plug it into PC, hit start in Odin and watch it do it's thing.
His directions are simple to follow. As long as you can read and go step by step, there is no reason you can't have it installed on your phone in a few minutes.

Not sure why people are afraid of not being able to gain root after allowing the EL29 OTA. Simply use odin and flash the root with cwm and bam you're rooted with no data loss whatsoever. Or just do as others have said and use the EL29 auto-root that fshub has created. Either way you can easily have root. I was on stock EK02 then i allowed the ota EL29 and rooted without a single hitch. So i'm thinking EL29 IS rootable.

The biggest news is the LTE stuff. According to analysis at S4GRU, one problem with Sprint's initial rollout of LTE is that the handsets have been programmed to downshift from LTE to EVDO at too high a level of LTE signal strength. Hopefully, this is a fix for that.
This update news really belongs in the XDA Sprint subforum forum, but now that it has been separated out I can't find it.

No go. It boots into CWM, then it fails with a signature validation error.
Gotta wait until I am near the laptop when the phone has a decent charge.
Then flash original non rooted rom, apply firmware, then re root the phone.

If you go to the dev section there are a few post showing how to upgrade with root. All I've had to do in the past was:
Madhouze's Instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747560
copy the file from it's directory to my SD Card (file is in /cache)
boot into CWM
Install ZIP from SDCard
choose zip from SDCard
choose the update.zip file you copied
Install ZIP from SDCard
choose zip from SDCard
select the .zip to add the custom recovery
Install ZIP from SDCard
choose zip from SDCard
select the zip from recovery file
Reboot and enjoy~!
Note: I got these instruction from madhouze's post in the dev section. I did not come up with them, only passing it along for other people to have.
EDIT: Confirmed the method that madhouze posted works. One note though update the SU binary if you are having problems with the root.
havent got it OTA yet in virginia..i'll wait a lil and manually do it if i get to impatient
QBKink77 has uploaded the a video for the new OTA with a DL link in the description. I'm not able to post links yet but if you go to his YouTube channel and just search for LG8.
may i ask what KI is in this? KI – Touch Wiz home has stopped

If you want to stay rooted, flash the LG1 package from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426. That post also has the GoogleQuickSearchBox app from LEM if you want to put back universal search.
Yup, I had the "update available" notification, then updated to UCALG1 and still have root and so far I haven't been bothered by another update notification.
let me try and clear things up sorry for the confusin, i am rooted and want to stay rooted. at&t sent that ota update about a month ago i guess now and it ask me to update when i try and update it starts to the restarts phone and sends me to recovery and i reboot system and it says update failed. id like to update it if i can keep root but not sure how to do that. my recovery is cwm-based recovery v5.5.04. i know there is a work around i think it has to do with the odin but i have no idea how to do that one. phone specs are baseband version i747uclem. kernel is 3.0.8-599060-user build number is imm75d.i747ucalem im not sure ill miss the universal search as i dont believe i use it if it just takes away the widget.
Here's my experience:
Got AT&T SGS3 from local retailer. It had I747UCALEM ROM.
Restored stock kernel via method in [Root]/[Restore]Our ATT SGS3 Tested working! thread using ODIN.
Installed ClockworkMod
Flashed rooted I747UCALEM ROM from [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - Updated [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers] thread using ODIN
Verified root via SuperUser and Titanium Backup
Installed ClockworkMod Touch for AT&T from [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - Updated [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers] thread in the Third, (optional) section.
A few days later, I got an AT&T Software Update notification.
I tried to apply the update, and it rebooted and told me the update could not be applied, so I told it to Postpone.
About a week later or so it nagged me again, so I revisted the [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - Updated [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers] thread and noticed the I747UCALG1 rooted ROM was available.
I downloaded the I747UCALG1 rooted ROM and applied via ODIN
After application, checked root again, and still rooted
All good (as far as I can tell), and no more AT&T Software Update nags! Now I know to freeze the app via Titanium Backup if I have the problem again, or probably I should just freeze it regardless so it stops checking period.
So in your case since you're already rooted on I747UCALEM like I was, I think all you need to do is apply the I747UCALG1 rooted ROM via ODIN and you'll be good like me.
Hope that helps clear things up for you.
So not sure if i know to do it but i think u download file to computer and open in Odin put phone in download run Odin go to recovery unzip file. Correct me if I'm wrong
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Pretty much you got it. Just remember to extract the tar and use PDA mode in ODIN.
The instructions in the Second, section of the [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - Updated [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers] thread, that's what I followed. It tells you exactly what you need to do.
What is tar?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Sorry, extract the tar file out of the .7z file, you don't need to do anything with the tar file beyond feeding it to ODIN. Just don't try to feed the .7z file to ODIN as it won't know what to do with it.
But if you're insanely curious, tar is a tape archive file from the *nix days, it's a concatenation of files and their attributes.
More on tar on Wikipedia
i noticed on the other thread it says u can stop at a certain point if u arent gonna flash roms. im not sure im going to on this phone yet or not can i go back and do the third step if i decide i wanna do roms or would i be better off going ahead and going all the way thorugh? or do i even have to since i already have clockworkmod?
As I understand things, because you're rooted already (or maybe because we have clockworkmod), the standard AT&T update doesn't work. Regardless, if out did work we'd lose root in the update.
The AT&T update check still runs in the standard (rooted) ROM so you are getting nagged about the newer version.
So...
OPTION A - UPDATE AND KEEP ROOT
If you want to update and keep root, you need to manually apply the newest rooted stock ROM from the thread with ODIN.
Once you do that the AT&T updater should see your ROM is current and will stop nagging.
OPTION B - DON'T UPDATE AND KEEP ROOT
Freeze the AT&T software update application from Titanium Backup.
Then you won't be nagged about the software update anymore.
You won't have the newest ROM but at least you keep root.
OPTION C - LOSE ROOT AND UPDATE LIKE STOCK PEOPLE DO
I haven't looked into unrooting so I can't tell you how to do this one, but you'd be back to "normal people" world.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

For this you'd flash a non-rooted, stock ROM through ODIN.

Idk if this work but if you have super su there is an option in setting says full unroot try it then scan for update if it didn't work just go to sammobile.com>firmware type your model then download one and flash through odin
Model:SM-T210R/ Rom: Stockrom Series v7.5/ Kernel: Blackhawk v2.1/ Mood: Satisfied
Is there any extra difficulty in getting root back after going to 4.4.2?
The way I would do it is find the new firmware on SamMobile (or some other site), download it, and flash it through your Recovery. Can't say for sure if you would still have root access, if not you could try re-rooting it with Framaroot (if it works for KitKat)...
question
hey,
if i remember correctly, the option of downloading the update and choosing to install/flash it later exists.
should leave an update.zip on you sdcard or in you file system somewhere. now if you could take that
zip and do some root voodoo to it then flash it that might work right? you are rooted so you have a custom
recovery so you don't have to be concerned about signatures because you can su in terminal and dd your
image appropriately or in some instances use root browser to replace files manually.......and then if you post that
tasty update for consumption......also the should be an ota block in you partition scheme, maybe that's useful
maybe not.....?
