The older andr devices with the qualcomm 528 cpu all have spls that can be written to, unlike newer phones with this stupid 2e B.S. recovery. If it wasn't for htc we could use stuff like that on the slide.

[Request] HTC Hero theme for Magic.

Wondering if anyone could port f.x this theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520629) to the Magic?
It would be awesome, or atleast any Hero themes.
Just curious, if you have a Magic why not root and put the real thing on? I really like the Hero ROM on my Magic.
Clinton
Because those ROMs are slow as hell
Oh sorry, you must have the 192mb Magic. Mine is a 288mb Magic works as good if not better than stock.

This gets so confusing because of the release of the phone on other platforms before it's available elsewhere. My T-Mobile branded Sapphire is in the mail today and I am extremely anxious to get a Hero ROM on it.
I am not sure what that entails (rooting or whatever), but I would like to know. Has anyone in here gotten a MyTouch3G and have a Hero ROM on it?

Not possible right now, they have not had any success in rooting the MyTouch yet.

how can i know which magic has 192mb and which 288 mb of ram?
I'm sorry if you have found a solution and me posting this is beating a dead horse, but as it wasn't listed in the thread anywhere, I provide options:
@WebghostDK, try Qteknology. I have 1.6, with Swapper set to 92mb size and 60 swappiness. Runs like a charm, not slow at all.
@Reej, check here: http://www.ryebrye.com/blog/2009/08/16/android-rooting-in-1-click-in-progress/ I did this on my phone, and am now running the aforementioned Qteknology rom. remember to get Swapper from the market and set the settings right, otherwise you'll be reloading the home screen constantly, and you'll probably want to flash back to stock.

first job is to see what version you have..So.. before turning on press and hold back then press power (red phone) at the top it will give you some info, it will say either 32a or 32b this is the main part you need. Then go to HBOOT to determine your spl..follow instructions there (remembering to download bits for your board 32a or 32b)
After this you need to go HERE
After that is done you need to choose your rom HERE
If you have a 32a you a lucky s o a b and i would recommend a hero rom,32b im actually using nk02's google ion rom as it will still let me get updates and has root

Flashing a HTC ROM or other in a "fake" hero

I don't even know if this is the right section, but I bought this cellphone from a chinese website
ht*tp://ww*w.eemobi.cn/product/detail-1-2521-8583.aspx
Should it work if I try flashing on it the official htc hero rom? or any of these other rooms here (VillainROM)??
You "hero" is not a real htc hero. it is a fake one. Obviously you can not flash any rom, including android rom. It is called "山寨机" in Chinese.

I somewhat doubt it... the hardware would need to be literally identical, and the partitioning of the device would need to be identical. And can you be sure the seller hasn't misled you with the specs?
Tbh. I can't see it working, and I think you'll brick your phone if you try, since you may not have all the recovery tools the hero has.
So no, and I wouldn't try it. Don't think you'll even find a way to flash it
fake or not, it has different hardware (chipset) inside and has a different SPL, so flashing one of these ROMs is never going to work, and might even brick the device permanently.
as from the webby i see is a winmo hero -.-" u may try winmo section on dual boot lol...
edit: reported to HTC hope they will do something to it to prevent us, supporter from buying fake HTC product.
i just saw...its 128ram/256rom...so i guess wont rly work with android...i think ill stick with winmo6.5....and btw is there a super lite version of 6.5? i looked but couldnt find any
Ouch ... I hope you read the fine print before buying your "hero" ..
I can guarantee that flashing one of these ROMs as is will brick your "hero".. It may be possible to get android on it .. but it wont be easy unless someone else has already done the hard work!
i gotta say...
those phones you bought are not even identical to real HTC Hero.
it might be based on MTK chips, which have different mechanism as the normal Heroes, and their system were written in a totally different way as the HTC one, they just implement a similar interface to the Hero one..

The ROM on the whole is compiled to run on an OMAP processor. We have ARM7, so a full port won't happen.

This can conquer to the one's who are so desperate to find "senseless" rom's..
It's always a hand in hand event..
Gotta let each love their own.. Thats why companies make so much differences out of something that essentially is the same exact thing, ON EVERY android device.. Give or take the installed OS..

Most Evo users have a longing for Vanilla Android, because they hate their inherited Sense UI. Conversely, at the G1 board, there is a demand for really great Sense ROMs. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

Processor datasheets required.

Development, be it a building or a program starts with a foundation. The foundation of this device is the hardware. The concrete slab which supports the first few floors (bootloaders and kernel) is the processor. To truely develop this device we need the specs on this slab. If anyone knows where we can find the datasheets, please post them.
Yes you are the man Adam.... Im glad youve taken interest in the E4GT ill be on the look out for datasheets as well as a bricked E4GT for you to demolish lol

Sorry, Yes, the Epic 4G has research done. the Epic 4G Touch (this forum) requires research before teardown... It's not something to go blindly into.
I do need an Original Epic 4G to remove the processor and document the UnBrickable Mod for the device.

All except the TMob version apparently. It's to have a Qualcomm processor. With a totally different SoC, I wouldn't think it's going to be cross-developed with the rest of the SGS2 family.

Yes. I thought that was odd... I just read that on a tweet from @GalaxySsupport yesterday. It leaves one to wonder why they would release a flagship "S" class device with another manufacturer's processor. This also means we may need two forums for the Galaxy S II.

That's some great e-porn, but unless the actual device layout is the same, it's not worth much. We need processor "datasheets". Signal discriptions. Pinouts...

I just picked up this phone today. Got worried because on the top is a little sticker that says Digital By Qualcomm but according to quadrant system info:
Hardware: SMDKC210, which does appear to be the Exynos 4210.
But I also thought Exynos 4210 was ARMv9. Quadrant says this is ARMv7

I am sure it is possible, but my time with HOX is slowly running out. After 3 years with this great little device it's time for me to move on.
Here is why I think it can be done: 1 2
I have started patching the hox to the point where I can build the ROM and the kernel, but it does not yet boot.
Everything is here, for anyone to play with. May need just one small patch more ... may need a lot of further patching. I guess a lot!

NO @teemo don't leave the hox you are the last developer here. Where you think to go?
Lol, luckily there is no new device i really like, so I will hang on to HOX for a while. What I want is a phone that doesn't look like iPhone or sammy. M7,8,9 are okay, but I want more than 5 inch and form factor should be something like G3. A9 would probably be fine, but a bit too small. 9X will probably be similar to A9, if I decode llabtoofers tweets correct. M10 might be interesting, let's see. But if it keep M789s display xy proportions it's a no go.
Well, back on topic, time is my worst enemy and it's not getting better. Currently I'm settling with SlimKat, that does everything better than lollipop except occasional freezes on videos. Want to check out AICP or RR or... , but...... time.
Ah, almost forgot to mention, if nothing cool pop up, Lumia could be the way to go. I like the new one.

The lumia950 is indeed amazing!
But stay away from the G3 and G4 they have a giant problem that is called a 2k display...
These new high resolutions chokes up the gpu to the point that smooth gaming/vr are impossible and to the point where even scrolling is laggy.
RR freezes ALOT (it returns after a few mins) and just stops responding to everything(even the power button) especially while browsing.
Have you thought about z5 compact? it got a 720p screen a super camera and an extremely powerfull gpu but it is small.
form factor like an LG... How about a ZENFONE 2?
ps: What is a 9X? never heard of that phone and about the A9 you just said: "something that doesnt look like an iphone..."(even though the iphone looks like an htc and not vice versa )
The m10 will be great if it will maintain its 1080p display.
YOU ARE AWESOME! thank you for everything you have done on this device!
I think too that the one x is a fantastic and damn durable phone(drops frequently never broke and still without a scratch after 3+ years) its just the new phone's batteries are what i envy, (7+ screen hrs vs my 1.5-2 hrs)
I got a spare HTC One X, even tho I'm still a noob at being a dev but I sure learn pretty fast when i'm interested in things.
I'm going to play around with build it for a bit.
