On 2.1 everything was just dandy. But after updating, everytime the raspy voiced Google Maps lady speaks, she pauses my music, but refuses to hit play again. 2.1 lady would resume the music no problem, on both the HTC player and Pandora. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm secretly hoping there is an option I haven't found yet...its a huge pain to swipe back in, navigate to the music, and hit play while driving.
Yeah this would be great I dont remember using it on 2.1 but do know that it worked on CM6 Froyo and now that I am trying some of the new 2.2 sense roms it is a very annoying problem.
hmm havent noticed, havent used gps and music at the same time, my car speakers broke and i already know i cant use gps and the phone speaker at the same time, will try to test this soon though, anyone have stock 2.2 they can test this on?
Pretty sure this is an issue with all 2.2's including CM6 and that is has to do with how froyo controls audio (it's listed on the official Android bug list). Confident a fix is in the works though, either from Google or the devs here.

i have had no problems with the music player starting back up after nav directions are given. pandora is borked tho. that's a pandora problem.

It seems to be an issue with a bunch of streaming media apps, not specific to Pandora.

Do you have a link to this list? I'm searching for it.
It should be made a sticky.
Yup, just tested it and it stops your music. Happened within 30 seconds of starting the navigation. I'm going to look for an old version of Google maps and see if that does anything, this update was pretty big.
Also, anyone have an N1 to test this on?
*EDIT* Using 4.3 does the same thing, was hoping it was a simple APK update needed, but we might need something more involved than that.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G.
Same issue with UK Desire since Froyo. Happens with both Copilot and Google Maps.
I read in a comment on the Android bug list that downgrading Pandora to v1.3 fixes the issue. Does anybody have an old titanium backup of Pandora 1.3?
I confirmed today that it happens with both Pandora and the regular music app on Fresh 3.2.
However, I recently was on a big roadtrip when using CM6 and it worked fine with the AOSP music player, but I didn't test Pandora.
Either way, it's extremely annoying. Missed a few turns because I just put nav on mute.

I was just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue or heard about it...
I am running CyanogenMod 2.2 Nightly (7-31-2010) with SnapV3 Kernel. I was just out driving while listening to Pandora through bluetooth. I happened to try out google navigation whilst doing this and I noticed that I couldn't get a GPS lock. The navigation app just kept saying that it was looking for GPS.
After some playing around I realized that if I turn off Pandora the navigation app works perfectly, but every time I turn on Pandora I either get the looking for GPS message or my position will not update.
Thanks for any input!

It's been known for a while that you can't listen to music (over speakerphone speaker using any app) and use GPS perhaps bluetooth suffers the same flaw?
If you download GPSTest then start it and open pandora, last.fm, local music player, etc and then hop into GPSTest really fast you'll see the phones unable to find GPS satellites.
Ok, I'll give that a try. Thanks for the info!
I've been working in other cities where I need the gps to get there and want to listen to pandora, so after I ran into this problem, I started keeping a nandroid of a 2.1 rom....

Just came back from jog and yours was the 1st post I came across, strange because this is EXACTLY what happened. Listening to pandora in the back ground Endomond gps tracker kept pausing, this is the 1st time that program has ever had an issue so there is conflict somewhere.
Well, I have played around with it a bit more and found that playing pandora through bluetooth does not cause a problem. I only run into the issue when using the phones speaker. I'm not sure about headphones though, I havn't tried that yet as I dont really have the need for them.
Of course there is still a problem with the navigation app turning off pandora every time it gives you audible directions. To stop this I just mute the navigation app and everything works well together.
I just run into a similar problem this morning
I'm running the leaked 2.2 build from last weekend.... before froyo, I could listen to pandora and use google nav all while plugged into my car stereo via aux jack.
now, when navigation gives a direction, it pauses pandora and you manually have to go back to it and press play
sooo annoying... anyone else run into this?
Order of Operations Counts, I think
I ran into this issue both with 2.1 and now 2.2 on my Evo. I'm not sure who the culprit is, but I've found that starting navigation, letting it acquire the GPS signal, and then launching Pandora works fine. If I do it the other way around my GPS signal basically dies.
Another interesting quirk I've noted is that if I start GPS first, but then Pandora.. my Nav voice will play through the speakerphone while Pandora plays through the headphone jack. If I start Pandora first, then Nav, they both play through the speakers.
I think what it may be is if Pandora starts/is caching while the phone is trying to startup GPS and acquire a position. I'll test it more during my drive home tonight. This has to be a software bug on side or the other. (Maybe it's google's ad software in Pandora trying to grab GPS for location specific advertising lol)

I was directed here http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9569 yesterday when I brought up the same issue on a different thread. It's an issue with android itslef. Looks like it kicked in at the 1.47 ota, prior to that, the audio would go right back to playing pandora or whatever after nav told you to take a left.
On 2.1 (standard Vodafone stock ROM), when playing music it would pause while the sat nav was speaking out directions and then resume.
Now on 2.2 (Both beta and todays official release) the music will stop when the sat nav is giving directions but it won't resume afterwards.
Can anyone tell me if its just a fault with my handset, or if its happening to all 2.2 handsets, as it is a major annoyance for me!
Can someone please just test this out for me on their 2.2 phone (doesn't matter if its running stock or someones cooked rom).
This seems to work on OpenDesire (non-sense), but doesn't work on any 2.2 Sense roms for me :S.
Please can someone just test this on their phone for me?
Just play a song using the stock music player, they type a destination in Navigation.
Tell me if the music continues playing after the Navigation app gives you the first set of spoken directions.
If it does, what ROM are you running?
Yep, same problem for me on every new 2.2 ROM I have tried. This is a show stopper for me as I ride a motorbike and rely quite heavily on GPS navigation while I'm listening to my tunes!
I've found that media players such as 'Mixzing' don't have this problem.
This bug was in all the beta releases that were leaked, so im pretty disappointed that HTC didn't fix this before final.
Same issue here after upgrading to Froyo. Very annoying!
Im getting this too.
Stock HTC ROM, using the HTC music player.
Im wondering if its a bug as in, on every release, or just a b0rked install on a few peoples phones.
Same here. HTC Music player doesn't resume. It ceases to appear in the notification area when Navigation starts. Double Twist resumed without a problem.
Is there a fix for this yet?

Hi,
Have you news about this problem ? It's realy ...
It's a problem of Google Nav or app music ?
Thank you
I haven't tested it since this latest update, but the only fix prior to that was to use a different music player.
I successfully used this workaround using Mixzing.
Ok It's a good app,but I prefer the original app for music.
Good alternative but HTC must to update this, I think it's important for a lot of people
Thanks
Unfortunately, I updated to the OTA today (rooted version) to discover that all the quirks I had with CM6 RC1 exist in the official HTC 2.2 ROM as well. ANY solutions to these would be greatly appreciated:
1. Audio quality over streaming (Think Pandora or Slacker) is greatly reduced. I believe I read this being due to a different decoder being used now? Is there any way to fix this?
2. You cannot listen to music and use GPS+voice prompts. As soon as the GPS software talks, the music completely pauses, and will not resume. On 2.1, it would simply mute the music while it talked. This is ridiculously annoying! Any hope for fixing this? It doesn't seem to matter what sort of music, be it the actual music app, Pandora, etc.

Unfortunately that seems to break a lot of other stuff, like the video camera and some video playback. And I can't seem to find any info on the other problem either :/
So HTC still has not fixed the crappy decoder issue?
That would seem to me to be a HUGE issue-- apps like Pandora/Slacker/Last.fm are one of the main drawing points of a device like this.
I am on the leaked 2.2, and Pandora sounds fine to my ears, but Slacker and Yahoo Music sound worse then music you hear when being put on hold in a conference call.

Yeah, it is a huge issue. I use streaming radio at least an hour a day. It's one of the top reasons I give people for owning the device. I'm really disappointed in Google and their apparent lack of QC for letting this type of bug through. Whether or not these apps can do something to fix it, no point OS update (2.1 -> 2.2, e.g.) should break existing functionality in this way. It's really embarrassing.
ok with all the 2.2 roms i have tried if you are using nav and pandora when nav speaks pandora pauses but it doesnt resume play after nav is done speaking it used to pause pandora then resume playback i really need this to work i love to put it in my dock for navagation and stream pandora at same time is tehre a file i can edit to tell it to mute pandora when the nav engine is speaking the way it worked in all 2.1 roms and 1.5
No one
Bump

Have you tried an older version of maps, maybe the 4.40 update broke it.
no there has to be a file that i can edit that tells nav how to behave
It's happening to me, too, so it's not just you.
Some delve please help maybe look at stand see what the permissions were in 2.1

Try and see what happens with Sprint nav.
sent from my Evo running gingerbread
It's a known bug in 2.2
supposedly pandora is working on it
By the way Sprint bab works but it plays thru doesn't mute or pauses they talk over each other loved how Pandora would just pause and resume

Yep it's from the 2.2 update. Pandora needs to update.

thanks for the confirm, that's exacly how I remember it also (I can't remember exactly when the last time I used nav was before I went to 2.2)
The reason I posted the link though, was to show that it looks like it's been noted as a bug on android code, so I don't know if this is tied directly to Pandora. I'm thinking it's more of a bug with the nav app instead. I'm no expert though.
FWIW, I'm running the OMJ 2.2, and if i'm running googleNAV and playing a song with the native media player, it will pause while gnav give a direction, but it also won't resume play once the directions are finished. That would lead me to believe that the problems is not isolated to pandora....
I just tried to day with last tm and it works as should so I'd say its Pandora code that broke
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It hasn't been working for me on Pandora or the HTC music player...Such a small detail is going to cause me a traffic accident soon...I just know it.
+1, this happens to me with music player also, a big disappointment after having it work in 2.1 and setting up a proper car dock with audio.
Also, I noticed when playing a movie in rockplayer you don't hear the navigation, and even after changing to the navigation app I wouldn't hear sound until I closed rockplayer and reopened the nav app.

not yet, sadly. Waiting for a fix too.
I was on the 2.2 RUU.
The sound bug on 2.2 is unacceptable, so I just went back to 2.1.
The bug is that the music player, pandora and btune would not play nice with google navigation, google actions and even copilot.
These apps stop instead of just pause and continue.
With copilot, no sound from music player unless it's restarted.
I would appreciate the people who are actually on the OTA instead of the RUU to confirm or dismiss these problems.
I'll stay with 2.1 if you can confirm or go ahead with OTA if you dismissed these problems.
Thank you
This is a known problem with Froyo. The bug has been fixed in the new version of Pandora released today.
Any devs out there think they can patch the stock music app so it'll play nice with the Navigation? Looking at the new Pandora apk, perhaps the secret can be figured out.
