[Q] Windows Threaded Messaging App CONSTANTLY FREEZES?! - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hello, I could not find any help anywhere online for this topic so I am going to see if any wizards here have a tip.
I Use a LG IQ on the Telus network, and I got sick of using the LG messaging application extremely quickly. I then found you could alter the registry on my phone, to use the windows threaded messaging instead. Of course I right away tried this and I love it. However one problem I CONSTANTLY, ALL THE TIME FACE, is when I leave a thread, by hitting the back button to say go to another thread, the phone freezes and starts completely messing up. I tried a hard reset, then only re-enabling the threaded sms tweak, yet still, always freezes. The only way I can get around this is to end the messaging app, and go to my notifications and open the next text then reply. I have tried many other applications that worked out but costed money, I shouldn't have to deal with that crap
I would really appreciate some help, or maybe a good sms app or replacement or ANYTHING to help. Thank you all very much.

Sent SMS keeps resending, can't delete!

The title says it all really. And the woman that I sent the text to originally is getting really peed off!
Any suggestions on how to get at the offending text & actually delete it from the Outbox? It's constantly there!
I had this happen to me once. I had to HR the phone to get it to clear. Nothing, not even a SR would clear it.
Dave
I had the same problem haha and the girl was getting pissed, hard reset was all I could find to fix it
Dang! What about software to delete from PC?
I used to have this problem when i had a wizard... what was happening was SPB Pocket Plus would terminate the messaging application, then when i would open it back up to write a message to someone it would resend a couple of my previous messages.
That was resolved by adding the messaging app to be excluded from SPB Pocket +'s feature to shut down apps upon pressing the close button. I think now SPB has realized this, among many other task manager apps, and u don't need to add the messaging app to a 'safe list' because i haven't had to do it forever.
Then it happened to me later but that was a problem with the network.
i'd go ahead and do the hard reset... :S

Sent SMS not displaying in TF3D interface

Pretty much what the title says. Texts go through but don't show up. If I send them from the windows mobile generic messiging they always do show. In the TF3D skin (for lack of a better term) the show intermittently. I have the stock sprint rom, and disabled the sent notification. Thinking this may be the problem, I re enabled it to no avail.
Any ideas? This is my only gripe with the phone. Much better than the touch pro original junk I did have five of.
Thanks in advance.
Probably not threading properly, due to timestamp error. check at the top of your texts, should see all sent texts at top. If so, go to htc support, enter your phone/carrier, and you'll be directed to downloads for your TP2, which will have an SMS/Timestamp Hotfix to download, will fix all SMS problems.

Sometimes when I'm texting through the HTC interface, sent messages won't pop up higher than the text input box, but they're still there...I just have to manually scroll down to see them. That may not be your issue, but I wanted to make sure that possiblity just didn't get overlooked
i don't think sense is supposed to show sent messages

I had already installed the 2016 hotfix. If I try to reinstall it, I get a wrong device error. When the texts do show up, the date is correct.
I don't have sense, its the stock sprint 6.1 rom.
I gather this is a pretty unique problem, since googling the hell out of it doesn't get any complaints like it showing up.
I am guessing its in the TF3D interface, since it always works in windows, and I have tried hard resetting, but that doesn't fix it. I did discover it is present in a bone stock config no cabs or anything other than what is in the rom installed, it still does it.
Do I need to demonstrate it to sprint and ask for another device? I am really getting sick of fighting with sprint. The touch pros I had were all crap and getting them to replace it with just a touch pro was a chore, let alone finally getting this TP2. They kept wanting to put me in a RAZR or a Snap. Wow, what a great deal there!

SMS-like or SMS replacement software options

My wife and I both now have WM phones (mine is a Tilt 2, hers a Pure) and we don't want to spend money on text messages to each other, since each text message would count twice... once for her receiving and once for me sending. (on a pay per use plan it would be $0.40 each!).
I was looking for other options. Push email is o.k. but often times there can be a minute or more delay, and my early tests of push gmail are not producing any confidence that it would push reliably.
So then I was thinking IM. It looks like IM programs would be battery hogs, and have to stay running in the background, and could easily be accidentally closed. Also, when the phone goes to sleep it seems like they then switch you to "offline".
So am I missing something? What are my sms like, non sms options?
Also does anyone have any small programs that would set up a auto-soft reset on a repeating schedule, it would be great if I could start the morning with a fresh phone. Thanks.

Yes, any non-sms messaging app for your phone would obviously use data (3G or EDGE connection) to communicate, and would need to be left on all the time to be able to receive incoming messages and notify you in real-time...so battery drain would be in direct proportion to that.
The best solution I've ever seen for that is Palringo, a free IM-integrator app that can connect you through most of the common IM networks (yahoo, AIM, Google talk, etc), or just direct through it's own (if I remember correctly)...meaning that as long as you and she both have the palringo client installed, you don't necessarily have to use any of those services to be able to IM each other. It's also free, and I seem to recall that it can be set (but isn't by default) to stay connected even when the phone goes to sleep, but don't quote me on that part.
It would be great if one of these programs had a "listening" service that would run in the background and then notify you of the "call" similar to an email.
I have seen a few online, (my research has just begun) that indicates "push notifications". Sound interesting, the data connection would remain active all the time that does not bother me.
I seem to have lost the setting to switch the "x" button from close to minimize. That would solve the issue with accidental closing the program. It would have to be managed via the task manager.. no biggy.. and then if I can find a soft reset scheduler it would keep the open programs from overwhelming the phone.

it's the other way around. default for winmo is minimize, there is
an htc bundled app called taskman. it's in settings - task manager which is making apps close when you click X
plenty of other apps can change that too
and then if I can find a soft reset scheduler it would keep the open programs from overwhelming the phone.

i made myself app doing change on backlight settings every morning and evening, I changed it for you to do reset

SMS/MMS Texting lag

I don't know either its my phone that lags or the rom, but recently after installing Energy rom, going into sms mode to send a text to someone takes at least 10 seconds. Is there a fix for this? Or is it my phone's problem
I've read that it's got something to do with WinMo 6.5. I don't have in depth knowledge of the topic myself. All I can tell you from my personal experience is that I've seen the same lag ever since I got off of the stock Sprint 6.1 ROM. (Been using variations of MightyRom ever since). It aggravates the hell out of me.
I bought this phone because, at the time, it was the best Windows Mobile phone on the market. If this was the best, I'd hate to see the worst. It doesn't even do simple BS like SMS as well as my old throw-away LG dumbphone did. Don't even get me started on the lagginess, freeze-ups and other pains of the 'advanced' functions...
Yeah with my TP2 whenever I open a text convo, do my thing, then exit.. it takes atleast 10-15 seconds to un-freeze into the All Messages window.. tried clearing the ram, but still nothing..
This is horrible! I recently started having this problem, if you have a really long text message conversation, the phone becomes completely un******* usable. I threw mine out the window of my truck today I was so aggravated. Mine has gotten to the point that you have to pull the battery out, or wait 5-10 minutes after you close out the text messaging thread. I'm getting an Evo - I really want to stay on TP2 but if I cant even text message, this phone/winmo 6.5 is totally junk. I'm hoping someone has a fix or tweak for this.
The only solution is to purge your messages, Arcsoft likes to load up all the messages before allowing you to do anything, sucking up alot of RAM and CPU, so less messages = less work, you could also try the classic text messaging (non threaded), the new overclock app kinda helps with this stuff. And the HTC messaging client as a last resort. the structure of the app is different and it doesnt take quite as long to load the messages, and it unloads itself much quicker than arcsoft in my experience.
I try to not to keep any SMS older than 2 weeks. I'm not one of these SMS crack-junkies that likes to keep 20k messages on their phone. I only regularly text maybe 4-5 people, so I never have more than a couple hundred messages on my phone at any given time.
I'd actually delete them sooner, but there's no decent app to purge based on message age. SMSPurger is a slow, buggy piece of junk, and nobody else seems to have written an alternative.
That brings me back to my old LG phone. It had a function where it would auto delete the oldest message once the combined sent/received list hit 300(?) messages. New message comes in, oldest one gets deleted. Why is it my WinMo superphone can't do something this simple?
If the issue is that you want an auto delete program, then the reasoning is that No one like to develop for WinMo, and the SMS has kind of always been an issue on the Professional Version, I had no problems with the SMS on my first WinMo device, the Moto Q9h (kinda miss it). I have had SMS issues on all 4 of my PPCs LG CT810 (incite) hTC Raphael (Touch Pro), Rhodium 210 (Touch Pro 2) and Rhodium 300 (Tilt 2). Best solution I have had, purchase Sms-chat if you really like your texting, It was lag free, and worked 100%, the only thing that I didnt like was the cheesy iPhone rip off. The main reason I still get WinMo is because I HATE apple. - but anyway, your issue is suffered by many, and it might take a while to solve.
hi
Just install the fix from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664915
I did it and it solved problems with sms in manila 2.5- no need to purge or delete long conversations.

[Q] Handcent

So ive seen handcent all over the fourm and people talking about how great it is. So i downloaded it and i admit its amazing. The only problem ive run into is that when i get a message is shows up in handcent and the stock text program. How do i disable that so my phone only uses handcent?
In the stock messaging app, you need to go into settings (when it's open hit "menu" and then "settings") and turn off the notifications for receiving a message. Back out of it, and you should be good-to-go. I personally turned off all notifications in the stock app.

Much appreciated I though that there might be a way to totally disable the stock program because they will still pile up in there wont they?
Yea, the messages will still be in the stock one. The way I understand it though, all the messages come into/out of a single spot. The messaging programs (Handcent, the stock one, etc.) just look in that area to let you text. So you can just remove the stock one from being linked on one of your home pages, and then you never have to see it again. There might be a way to remove that program itself, but I don't know it. It doesn't bother me though since I just don't ever open it and instead use Handcent.
You could always uninstall it via adb if you are rooted. Search "how to remove bloatware (or unwanted apps)" or some variant.

Just don't delete it! LOL! Trust me! That and don't delete Facebook out off the phone either. Those were BIIIIIGGGG mistakes. LOL! I won't ever do that again. Good thing I do nandroid back ups before I try experimenting with removing stuff.
Anyone having touble with Hancent opening since 2.2? I have at least a 30 second lag when I launch, almost like a memory full issue.
I have the stock notifications off and am not rooted.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
jfk
freeze it thru titanium backup like i did! u can defrost it any time!
I've tried Handcent a few times and it seems OK but has a fatal flaw. My wife and I use txt-to-email and back. She send my a txt on vtxt.com and I reply through my SMS service straight to her email address which pops up on her Blackberry. Handcent won't sent messages to email addresses.
