Hey guys, I really have this only thing that urks the living hell out of me.. I am having issues (like that's new lol) when downloading apps from the market, once they have downloaded they dont install, some do, some don't. I have checked this with other roms and this just happens on 2.2?
Is there a fix for this, does have to relate with the 1.40 PrL(pri)? I just can't understand it.. I have been running Cal's Rom's but on others I have seen the same effect... I just don't understand why this happens, is this a theme thing, Manup456? I am running his latest of everything... I doubt it! Like highly doubt it.. cause with or without this seems to do this.
Any insight would be amazing please, thanks..
Edit: Pardon for not placing this in the themes and apps section, I just think this more development than issues... Since this has only happened to many of us on 2.2 released or leak!
Thanks...

Q&A IS THE CORRECT SECTION.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Sorry, I think this has to do with the entire 2.2 RUU... I have done this and it still does so on those.. as I stated, I didnt mean harm or confusion, but WE need to resolve this.
If I am correct, as the app downloads it settles in a cache until installation. Then an echo is used to start the installation. As it would to uninstall or start/stop an app. The issues lives when it goes to install.

it still belongs in QA even if you feel that.
what specific roms have you used, Are you restoring things via titanuim back up or is it doing it from a stock install with no restore as well?
I know a lot of people having issues is because they doa a titanium back up restore and dont remove the 2.1 settings from the restore causing issues when they restore on 2.2.
if you did do a titanium restore try doing a fresh flash then d/l and install ont he apps you ahd problems with if they are ok then its not the roms. if they still ahve issues then let us know (make sure you fully wipe.

This is from the market. The apps have issues with market installation. In reference to back ups I use My Backup Pro. I never use data backup unless I have to, so not that.
Thanks for all who jumped in to help.. I hope you all can see what I am trying to say.
Edit: I just went on to check 3 different roms... DC, Ava and Steels deodexed stock, seems like they're not having it as much.. but do..

Before you blame anyone's ROM for this problem, install the ROM and don't apply the theme. BY no means am I disrespecting the manup456 theme. However, manup456 theme replaces 3 very important files in your /system/framework/ (services.jar, framework-res.apk, and com.htc.resources.apk) as well and 29 apks in system/app/ dir (such as htcsettings.apk, mail.apk, mms.apk, Rosie.apk, vending.apk[which by the way is the Market!]. If the framework files of your ROM are different than manup456's source, or signed with different keys, then you could get all kinds of funkiness.
People have reported issues in my stock deodexed ROM, all of which have either been user error on their end(you should always wipe!) or resolved at this point. I have installed 42 apps onto RevE, no issues. Additionally, a user just installed a ****pile (20+) apps from the market onto my base ROM and had ZERO problems.
All those writing ROMs, and all those writing themes, put a great deal of time and effort into their projects to make them happen. When you start customizing anything, bugs are going to surface. When you mix parts from one software with another, even more so.

Steel never would I go off blaming anyone! LoL I can promise you this. I have been at since the nexus days porting over sense, so yeah, in with ya! Now, I did find a very interesting display if answers since I started this quest. While we all searched and discussed high and low, the answer was actually right in our face! Just wipe the data from the Market! D'Oh!
I hope this goes to help anyone who see this little thread about the little hicks that happen with the apps. I am so happy to have seen this conclusion!

Good to know. I tell people to wipe data when they flash my ROM. Then they don't and wonder why things like this happen.
good thread to see
Hey, I flashed to stock 2.2 & netarchys kernel. I did a titanium backup , but forgot to backup 2 days later before reflashing, and had just a couple new apps (the onion news, among them) not backed up. When I went to market to reinstall the onion, ran into trouble. It showed it was downloading, in 2 queues even, in the market UI. But neither progressed to 'installing'. Looked through file explorer and Ti backup to look for any remnants of the onion floating around anywhere. To no avail. However, tried again today, installed just fine.
When you say 'wipe market data', you mean thru Settings->manage applications UI ? (Just in case I run into this again and it doesn't resolve) Thanks in advance.

I flashed your ROM this morning after a full wipe. The "Live TV" app won't install. Any suggestions? Everything else I've tried has installed fine.
What 'Live TV' app? If you mean the SrintTVWidget, that does work as well as the main SprintTV app itself.

In the market. If you search for "Miguntu" it comes up. It's basically Justin.TV for our phones.

Installed fine on RevE and RevE.1, not the ROMs fault.

Looks good. I didn't see this when I went about making almost the same ROM, including Tara Tike's removals.
I think we both have the same problem with Asian and European ROMs that our accelerometer (and maybe something else too) doesn't work, which means we won't get to run CM7 or other fun ROMs without porting it to the TMOUS kernel.
What I'd like to do now is get Melethron's data2Whatever working, which would give us unlimited system storage (well up to 2GB). Even with 120mb free I still think there is a lot that could be gained with D2WE.
Other than that, I'd really like to figure out how to port the CM7 version to our state-side phones.
Anyway, let me know if you're interested.
Thanks for your insight. I'm interested but I'm actually not good at programming. If anything I can do to help I can try or test for you but as far as porting kernels I have no idea.

I got a couple of questions for you humble1, did you downgrade to any official rom(Asian or European) after s-off and is your phone still simlocked?
It's easy to remove HTC Sense, could you make a rom that comes from SDK? Which is based on google and without twice development....

Someone is already doing that.. its called Cyanogen mod.... it being done right now by Alquez
Looks great! I'm scrapping my ROM and trying this. Looks like exactly what I was trying to do. Nice work.
@Tyrone1 did you lock the old market app or is this likely to update to the new market? I hate the new market app.
Also, I found this with my ROM as well. Something we removed was the HTC Quick Lookup, which is what the search button is mapped to at the home screen. I've tried Zeem and ADW and it doesn't work. I know the button is working because in applications with mapped search button (ie. Market, browser) it works fine. Also at the home screen a long press will activate Voice search just fine. I don't know if we need to replace the HTC apk or find a way to map google search to the search button.

I haven't tried a completely stock rom for Asia or Europe, but I can use custom roms for TMOUS without problems (1.62-based) and all 1.33 based roms give me problems with accelerometer (and maybe things I haven't found yet).
I'm S-Off and no simlock (I have an AT&T SIM that I use for testing, even though it's not activated).

If you know how to use the SDK distro and combine it with a working kernel, go for it. I don't, but if you (or someone else) tell me how, I'll do it. Actually I'd rather port alquez's CM7 because CM is better than HTC or stock Google distro.
never flashed any ROMS except my own ROMS also flashed some of goapk.com and xda.cn ROMS, it's where I learn a lot also XDA I visit everyday. My phone needs to rest including me. When I have energy including my phone I will flash this ROM including alquez CM7 and other rom made for wildfire s.
It works fine for my needs and I will wait until alquez's Cyanogenmod is ported and working for Tmobile USA users.
Anyone who wants to use or modify this ROM feel free to do so!! Thanks all who have helped wildfire S users... jinkataru, alquez, thehumble1, tera tike and all others... thanks
wow from 2 to 3 in a day. Nice.
Search button isn't working and when I try to change the Ringtone or Notification tone Settings.apk FCs.
I'm on 2.0 though. Didn't see change log to show that 3.0 had these fixed.

LOL i just arbitrarily assign those numbers.. i could've gone to 10.0 just to make it sound like the ROM is highly developed
u should be able to change ringtone and notification with the last version of the rom. However not sure about the search button.. i never really used it before and dont really plan to use it either...
OH yeah PS i came from HD2 hyperdroid prior to this phone too LOL
It's quite amazing how easy this is compared to using a phone that was built for Windows 6.5

Updated to 4.0!!!!! Enjoy!
I see that you are no good at laying off the rom development. Nice work. Now I just have to backup and install the new one.
Also, the search button still doesn't work from the home screen. To fix this put GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk in the system/app directory, change permissions to match the other apps (rwx r-x r-x I think) and reboot.
the apk has to be the newer one. I messed with this for ages till I realized that I didn't have the right, working apk.

Sorry for the long delay. I inally have everything sorted out and the temperatures finally cooled down enough that the random brownouts have stopped. Lots of new things in this release. I suck with changelogs and the way I built this rom makes it hard to know everything that's changed. I rescripted Maniac103's Defy repo for the Bravo and am now using that as my base. Before I was updating a cloned Quarx CM7 repo with cherrypicks from Maniac's and FuZZ's Defy repos..
Some new features include
Bootmenu Pin Protection
Wifi Calling (untested)
SmartassV2 replaces Smartass, conigure it with smartass's settings in the bootmenu
Voice Commands
More Tablet Mode Features, you'll see them
New FM Radio
Nuance Bluetooth Voice Dialer

Wiping Cache and Wiping Dalvic Cache isn't necessary since I added those commands to the installer script. Adding those commands makes updating simpler, less prone to errors, and less presses of the volume and power buttons.
I need to look in touch recovery and touch bootmenu.

NOTES & BUGS:
I've sometimes had an issue where my pc won't connect to adb since the phone won't give permission. It usually only occurs after the first 2 or 3 boots then magically fixes itself. I've also had usb data tethering fix the adb problem. If you don't use adb on your pc, then this isn't even an issue for you.

CM7 Mods
Just a couple of mods I use with CM7.
Bravia Engine - Sony Image PP engine for sharper images.
Beats Audio - Sony Audio engine with improved bass and treble -- can harm inferior and crappy headphones and speakers (Trust Me).
All the zips are flashable in recovery.
Credits for the zips go to their original makers, which I can't remember since I downloaded them a few months ago and can't find the threads I found them in (somewhere here at xda).
Skeevy your rom is lightning fast! Thanks so much! Thanks for beats audio and bravia zips too!

I use ES file explorer, but basically I use any file manager with root access.
I've been using this one for a few days and haven't found any bugs. Pretty sure this is the most stable rom I've had on my phone.
Another thinh I've noticed is I can't tell if the bravia engine is working. I know it is supposed to produce clearer images, but I don't notice a difference. Oh well, this phone doesn't have a fantastical camera anyway.

I was just thinking of swapping it out with Apoonet's Miui File Explorer -- Free, Root, Advanced Features, Auto-Updates itself, No Crappy Permissions.
Glad to here it works great for more than myself.
The only way I could tell if Bravia was working was I took picture of my dog with the Bravo's camera and dl'd a HD image, started at each of them for minutes on end each, flashed bravia, stared again. They did improve, but not by much and I doubt anyone would notice the difference unless you did the stare test like I did.
thanks skeevy

Help please
Hi. Im a newbie at all this installing rom stuff. I am trying to install this rom, but omited to download and place the gingerbread gaaps on my sd card before the process...
so now I am stuck in this step
-Find and Select Gingerbread Gapps
-Flash It
-Reboot
Should I turn it off and put the gaaps in there, and then restart it? Please help!
Just as a fallow up the way I solved this issue thanks to other forum members help was: turn off my phone, and install the gaaps to the sd card, to unzip them later.
PC Crashed
Not gonna be a CM7 this week, or anything else for that matter. My pc went down Thursday and I finally had the time today to get it back up and running. Still have to finish configuring everything how I like it, install all the build requirements, sync all my repos again (takes a while), and much more. My biggest problem is I might lose a lot of my Android stuff on my old encrypted home folder. Need to look into accessing an encrypted home folder when you don't have the password anymore. Like a dumbass, I stored it in my Documents folder....instead of anywhere on one of my other 3 hard drives.
I'll look into the baseband issue. I think I just need to add in the missing folders and files under /etc/motorola that the new baseband switcher uses.
Maniac had quite a few CM7 updates last week, and that's always good.
Hopefully I'll be back in business by Monday.
//If you're wanting to try out Linux, I gotta recommend Mint 13 Xfce to ya. The install is painless and the system's ran good and stable so far. One of my best Linux experiences.

Woop, recovered all my Android files. I'm so glad I didn't lose all of it. I'd of had suicide level depression if I didn't. Especially since I had to look long and hard for the right tools to do the job (that's what she said). Then its time to set up my build environment. That'll take a while. The sdk alone is about a 1 hr ordeal, the CM7 sync is anther 1.5-2 hrs, CM9 is about a 45 min sync, the app install for everything is another 30 mins. And all those times are in a perfect world with maxed out dl speeds.
About done with all my sysyem themeing. I prefer a black desktop since its much easier staring at a dark 42" screen over a bright one for hours on end, and its eaisre to read. See the screenshot to see what I'm talking about
Also gonna look into adding aroma to the CM7 Kangs. I thought about making a lightweight rom with update zips for full CM, but Aroma will let us choose what system apps you don't want, allow easy modding and tweaks. If done right, it'll give the Kangs full White Rabbit customization without me having to port WR.

THanks... will do... just to let you know this second phone has always given me some sort of problem.... I had trouble when I rooted it because, the enable non market app would never stay that way. When I first enabled non market apps with superoneclick I could install no market apps. But after some time when by when I tried to install a non market app it kept telling me that I couldn't so I had to enable non market apps again. I thought that was weird, because device number 1 never gave me those issues. Anyway, on device number 1 everything from kangs cm7 worked...
As a followup to this problem, I tried connecting to Google on another wifi hotspot and it worked... I guess the settings of my IP are somehow incorrect at home, does anyone have any idea on what the correct settings should be... I can connect to Google at home once Im signed in from another IP.
Just wondering if this could be due to a CM7 issue because It never happened when my phone was in stock rom.
Also... I cannot purchase apps when connected to the wifi at home... I have to go somewhere else...
hey all,
I picked up a 2nd hand E4GT on Sprint from a buddy for my wife. figured AOSP might be a little much for her to tinker with so i put the stock rooted GB27 on it. Battery tanked on it so bought a new one. Now she gets anywhere from 12 to 16 hours on it, but she still gets frustrated with it doing wonky stuff like hanging, not waking, not sleeping, etc.
I'm not a noob by any means but every device is different. (i'm on an HTC Evo 4g lte myself) I'm just trying to figure out what ROM to jump her to that's a) not bloated with crap to make it slow and b) has great battery life. I guess i could take her back to AOSP if need be provided it's stable. She's not a tweaker at all. if something doesn't work for her i'll hear about it. close to stock but debloated with some tweaks and goodies would be perfect.
after all that, what's the best (easiest) way to get a good recovery on this thing from the stock ROM i loaded so i can switch to the aforementioned ROM?
i could sit here and read the forums until my eyes bugged out (and i do for my own device) but i just want to give her something she'll be happy with, so i defer to you all who've been around the block with the thing.
TIA
I'll shamelessly send you to my ROM, it seems to be the most popular right now-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320041- I'll let you be the judge, just read the features and see if it sounds right for her.

I suggest the gb27 rooted full restore ( wipes sdcard ) one click from rwilco12's repo....flash with Odin..After its up and settled in.You can flash a different kernel/recovery( they are tied together on this device )if you want. But I wouldn't think she would need it. Also..after its up. Just debloat to you're liking...I take everything out I don't use..down to widgets I don't use.
If that's not what you want to do...since you're rooted. Use mobile Odin to flash a custom ROM. If you'd like...I can link you to a guide I put together for mobile Odin.
As for what will be the best ROM...all ROMs run a little different on each device. You know that. So it will be a little back and forth until you find one that works for her. I really like project x...but im lucky, in the fact that all the touch wiz based ROMs run great for me. I can also run about any other cm/aosp/aokp ROM..but dirty unicorns. My device doesn't like it..and its an awesome ROM.
Let me know if you want the mobile Odin link or if you have any questions...
FYI...we have a Q&A thread for this forum...for these questions..Good Luck. And Welcome to the Epic 4G Touch Forum.

Thanks, can you shot me towards the mobile Odin info? I'm not familiar with it at all and you're right, she wouldn't need recovery except for me to nand back if she likes it worse afterwards.
Also, is there a safe to remove list someplace? I've had sammys before but never a tw device. Figure worst case i just go on a terror spree with root explorer uninstalling junk system apps lol

As for the bloat ware...I'll look around. But I usually just start freezing stuff and then run it for a few days...if all is well. I make a back up of the frozen apks and then delete them.
There is a de - bloated boost ROM ( you'd have to change the apns to get MMS working and flash a sprint modem...gb27 is the newest ) and there are some light gb27 ROMs that are debloated, for the most part...project x is one of them.
Let me know if you need any help...FYI..make sure you get the el 29 direct boot kernel...not the stock el 29 kernel...This will make sense once you read the mobile Odin guide and go to rwilco12's repo...all links are in the guide.

Built From Soucre, your evo will never be the same.
Team Nocturnal is happy to bring you Kitkat with tweeks to follow.
This is still in it's early stages but I can promise you it is stable and works well.
We will work out as many bugs as possible in the updates to come,
I can not promise you that all will be fixed, but we will try.
Bugs
FFC not working
Hot Restart causes wifi problems, & data. normal reboot fixes it.
Menu settings will not work. widgets and wallpers are fine. just put a settings widget on desktop or use pull down.
video recording is not working looks like it's not saving to sd.

Vinman, you da man! I'll give it a try in an hour or two. I'll be able to test data, but not phone or SMS/MMS since I'm on freedompop's service and all their voice/text is routed over data. Is this the only official kit-kat build? The only other one I've tried was Captain Throwback's build with spotty data.
Thanks again to all who worked on this!

I updated my TWRP build and will be posting it in a new thread over at Android Devices (or as I like to call it, @Wambo_World) so once I have that up, you might want to just link to that instead.
The new build has some cool features and is way more complete than the original version I posted. I'll let you know when it's up.

hey fishgoon, ok kewl yeah check it out, data is fully working, but Im looking to get feed back on all bugs to see if we can correct them, Im aware of most of them but it will be good to compare with the members feed back.
as far as the the Rom this is the first that has been rebuilt with working data, and added tweeks,.
but as far as the first releases belive it or not it was a simple fix on the data which was pointed out to us.
but all is good now. I must have built this a zillion times. lol had one of my buddy from tn build it as well
we all went nuts to get the data flowing. I know @ Wambo did as well.
but now we can all breath a sigh of relief.
Much love to @captain Throwback, he got us all rolling. great work on the Recovery to.
ok enjoy.
Although my Evo doesn't have service, I have been running the Captain's original KirKat ROM on it for weeks and I'm deeply grateful for all the work you guys are doing.
Forgive my ignorance, but if fixing mobile data turned out to be a "small" thing, could this information be shared with preludedrew so he could work it into evervolv? Or has he just dropped support for Supersonic altogether?

The vendor files simply need to be pushed on github. The fixed was shared in one of the other threads.

Great work. Everything seems super smooth. Was able to run Mounts2SD with no problem to get some more room for apps. Also, I was able to do wireless tether using native tether feature and an open connection. However, I was unable to get wireless tether to work with encryption...not a big deal...I think it was also not working in the JB roms either. Overall, runs really really well. I don't listen to music over my phone much, so probably won't try viper audio out. I'll have a better idea once I get on my home wifi and load a bunch of apps on it. I think it's plenty stable to use as a daily driver unless I find a serious app compatibility. Has anyone tried GPS navigation with google maps yet?

My S3 is totally stock 4.3 but rooted. Lately I'm having two problems that are bugging the hell out of me. 1) BTLE is really erratic. I track my workouts using a BTLE heart rate monitor and it is constantly dropping out. It's not the app I'm using because I have the same problem with three different workout apps. 2) Sometimes text messages are super laggy and frequently are sent/received in multiples.
I'm hoping that upgrading to 4.4 will solve these problem. Or, if there are other things I can do to fix these issues, I'm open to trying them.
I've had the OTA "system update downloaded" notification for months and I've just ignored it. I know that in the past if you were rooted you couldn't just install the OTA update in the usual way. So I'm wondering if I can accept the OTA update or if I have to go through some other process to install stock 4.4. If so, what would that be?
Also, are there any major known issues with 4.4 that I should be aware of?
TIA for any help. I've searched but couldn't find any directly helpful threads. I feel like this was probably a hot topic back when Kit Kat first came out but that was a long time ago so the threads are buried.

No, DO NOT TAKE THE OTA. It won't work anyways and there have been a few reports of bricks. You have to use ODIN. In my opinion 4.4 is WAY better than the mess that 4.3 was.

OK, so I just need a stock 4.4 file and I can ODIN? Can someone please point me to where I can download it? I prefer to stay fully stock because in my experience every modded and/or custom ROM breaks some function. As long as I'm rooted I can do what I need to do.
Will I lose my apps/data by flashing 4.4 or will I end up with a clean install? And will I still be rooted?
Thank you.

Yes
Well maybe you haven't tried the right ROMs yet.
Yes you will lose all data and apps and it will wipe your internal SD
No, you won't be rooted anymore.

Thanks for the info and the link.
Two last questions. Any bootloader/Knox related issues that make rooting 4.4 problematic? And if I back up with Titanium, can I restore into 4.4? I know that Kit Kat radically changes the way data is stored so I wonder if restoring from 4.3 to 4.4 breaks things. I actually have a 32GB S3 and don't use a memory card so everything is stored internally but I still wonder if there would be issues.
I don't know about not trying the "right ROM" yet. I don't think I've ever seen a custom/modded ROM that didn't have a list of things that either didn't work, or didn't work right, or some kind of caveat. It's the camera, or it's bluetooth, or it's visual voicemail or it's always something that doesn't work quite right. If there is a custom ROM out there that doesn't break ANY feature I'd be open to trying it. But I bet it has a thread full of people who are trying to work around a number of issues. If you know of a bulletproof rom for this phone I'll check it out, I would be happy to be proven wrong.

No problems rooting and yes... Check out the ROM in my signature[emoji6] I'm pretty sure the 2500+ users don't have any problems since my thread has been pretty quiet since the last update.
