Missing icons after FroYo update - Desire General

Hi, after FroYo update all new apk files that I put on my sd card dont have their icons in Astro file manager. The icon is default. Is it Astro or FroYo problem?

I'm guessing it's an astro thing but as I don't use it I don't know.
Contact them and ask.

So which file manager do you use, and why not Astro?
Everyone says that Astro is the best so I chose it... but it seems to have many small bugs, something is always wrong with it. So I am thinking about change.

I have not used Astro before I upgraded to froyo but can confirm that it does not show icons for the apk files. It just shows a standard Green and white Android logo.

I use app monster and also root explorer. I also have ES File Explorer installed for some reason but have never used it

[Q] APK files icon preview on FroYo ROMs

I notices an inconvenience by using 2.2 ROMS: The apk files are displayed only with a standard android icon. On 2.1 every apk file was displayed with the corresponding icon (same as shown during installation)
I tried several FroYo ROMs available here and result was everywhere the same. I also tried ASTRO, ES File explorer, some other file explorers from the market.
Does anybody know a trick to display the real icons of apks in file managers?

Snap. Also, with Astro backups it used to display the proper app name and icon, now its just that Android icon w/ 'com.......' etc.
Sent from my HTC Desire upside-down
Tonight i tried another 2.2 ROM and there is same issue. No APK icons displayed. However i found out, that in the stock applications settings icons of installed programms appeared (but still not in FileManager)

Did you find out why this is doing it and how to sort it out? I have noticed that it will not show the file details before you install it! so always says 0k.
Looks like the file is not been read!
Thread reported.
Don't post your questions in the development section!
This is probably borderline, I would say general...
Thank You,
NoobNazi
i am facing the same problem any solution so far
need help
it dosent display the icon because the .apk is an executable file, it should show a little picture of the android logo, this is just to show the file is executable, i dont remeber what it displayed in eclair to be honest, maybe they changed something in froyo, anyway there is atleast one file explorer that shows the correct image from the .apk's ive seen it, i think it was oi file manager

I've used both and decided to keep ES File Manager; it seems to deal with network/ftp shares better than Astro, in my opinion anyway. There were a few other reasons, but can't think of them at this point (!)
maybe cause ES is free?
Personally I use Astro as a filemanager because ES looks terrible. For moving files to my phone I use wifi file explorer.
There must be all in one, right?

Questions about FroYo 2.2 and .apk icons missing.

I suppose its not a huge deal, but on 2.1, all my backed up .apk files look like icons when I use Astro or ES File Manager or any install/uninstaller apps.
In 2.2 they just look like default android apk icons.
I normally can tell what is what by icon but when they all look the same, it's a pain in the ass.
Does anyone know WHY 2.2 has this issue? Why can't it see the programmers icon properly or is the issue IN the programs (file managers) I'm using. So far they all have this issue it seems though.
bump
yea i use my appcontrol and my linda file manager and efile....and it shows the android default icon for all of them...i think its 2.2 or i think the file managers havent updated there apps maybe

[Q] files folder in app drawer

hi, sorry if this has been posted before
my brother just got a desire today and i put doodle jump on it from my laptop but we cant find the files folder where i put it
my galaxy s has a 'my files' folder in app drawer where all music and apps download to but we couldnt find anything like that on his desire, just wondering if we are missing something
he downloaded astro file manager aswell but couldnt find it through that either
thanks
How have you moved Doodle Jump to the phone?
You have to download a File Manager like OI File Manager and install the .apk from there.
Or just download Doodle Jump from the market...
i moved it to his sd card when it came up on computer but cant find where it is to install
he searched for it with astro file manager but it said nothing found
is IO any better ??
Maybe you can try to copy it again to the SD-Card.
No it isn't that much different.

File Manager

What is the best file manager, where I can look at all my files on my SD card - and also delete them without connecting up to a PC?
Also trying to delete that stupid Elysium trailer.
What is the best app?
Thanks.

Total Commander, ESFile Explorer and Solid Explorer are amongst best android file explorers.
file manager
root explorer, root access is required, it help u to explore all of file in external/internal memory and ex-sdcard
it can work fine without root access but cant del file in internal memory. it work fast than every file explorer but ui is very simple
ESFile Explorer for me, rooted required.
Tried Astro and ES Explorer.
ES is much better, perfect. It lets me delete stuff, and is very slick. Also, no adverts (that I seen) unlike Astro.
Thanks.
I can not miss the opportunity to plug Total Commander. The Best file manager for Windows and Android.
The crazy bastards even support Windows 3.11 .
