Has anyone tried this car mount from Clingo? - EVO 4G Accessories

Has anyone tried this car mount from Clingo?
It looks really cool but I wonder how functioanal it...
http://www.jr.com/category/office/accessories/cellular-phones/docks/page-20/

You do realize that there are at least 10 different car mount kits on that page? Which one specifically are you talking about?

Doesn't matter...I think the OP is asking about the concept. This material is like glue but does not leave a residue on your phone. So...does this clingo material really work? If so...it may work for iPads too that are tethered to our Evo's.
Looks really cool. I'll be a guinea pig and buy one of these to see if they really work.
In our family we have Evo, iPhone, iPad...if this sticks to all 3 that would be great...1 mount for all types....sounds like a winner to me. Plus if you do a search they can be had for under 20 shipped.

I drive pretty hard on the weekends to trust sticky goo to hold the phone against all those lateral Gs......but maybe it'll work well for my dad and his mini and he drives like a granny

Well....yeah there are lots of stuff on that page BUT only one Clingo car mount as the thread was asking....
Here is a more direct link.....
http://www.jr.com/clingo/pe/CIG_30272/

Well I looked into it and I just ordered one tonight. The reviews look promising so does the product since you can use it with a case on or without. Theres also a thread about it at androidforums, the last post has a good review. There is a few videos of the product on youtube and im hoping its as good as it seems. Its just I am SICK of waiting for the offical dock.
Here is a video of the product on a Droid, basically a stand but the car mount is the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaFyE-WF2CU&feature=related

I worry about it getting dirty and it will put the stress on the battery door clips. Maybe good but for $30 I would want to see a few reviews from people who use on a daily basis.

Just watched another video and it can be cleaned but at the end the removal looked way to easy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuREArW3c48&feature=related
Also found fro $24 at Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Clingo-Universal-Hands-Free-iPhone-Devices/dp/B003JTHMSM

I just ordered one from Amazon (thanks clayginn for providing the link) and was able to get the last one from a dealer for $24.99. Hopefully it's shipped before Friday, because I'm really going to need it then.
Anyways, I have the universal mount that Sprint sells and it's absolutely awful with the Evo. I have it mounted on my dash and the phone vibrates and shakes even when my car is running idle at times ('05 Mazda 3 five door). The phone may also be a bit too heavy for it, as the holder gradually moves down after a period of time, even though I have it extremely tightened. My girlfriend also noticed the vibrations when it was used on the windshield.
Hopefully the Clingo mount works better. I watched some videos where the reviewers were driving with it attached and it seemed to be very solid. I'll post a quick review early next week. If it's here before Friday, then it'll be used for a long trip over the weekend.

very tempting

Looks great, have to try it!!! Thanks OP
Brought 2 of these from Ebay $11 shipped these will get my phones off my desk mounted to my computer screen
http://www.clingo.com/on-the-go/universal-mobile-tether/
Also per allsop CS (the makers or Dist) clingo will not work on Leather or silicon!!!!!

I'm interested to see how long the stickiness lasts. I'm going to get the car mount one today and we'll see how it holds up.

Same here, but it looks like tap water will regain the stickiness but we'll have to see how long that lasts over time. I also read that it can be really tough to remove a device if it's connected to the mount in hot weather. It's nearly 100F here and will be used on my dash for nearly four hours in direct sunlight on Friday. Someone mentioned how he had to cool it off in front of the car A/C for several minutes to remove the phone easily.
Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'll give it a quick test and let you guys know how it works. I'm just hoping it's better than that crappy Sprint mount.

Just received the Clingo mount and took it out for a quick drive. Ended up working very well. Much better than the Sprint mount I originally had. Extremely fast and easy to set up.
I prefer having my phone mounted on the dashboard when used as a nav. Just place the sticky 3M disc onto the dash and let it sit for a while. If you put the mount and phone on the disc after a few seconds, then be ready for your phone to fall. It's 95F here and the disc became really stuck after about 10 minutes, with no falls afterward. As for using the mount on a windshield, it works just fine. Just use the attached suction cup and it'll stick great.
The "arm" that connects from the suction cup and then to the sticky pad is pretty long, therefore your device will be closer to you in the car. It isn't immensely long at all...I actually prefer it this way. In addition to the Sprint mount, I also have an older Garmin nav unit and both mounts are pretty short. You'll be able to see images/text/etc. much easier with the extended arm on the Clingo mount.
As for the actual pad...it works like a charm. I attached the Evo without a case and then with the Seidio Active Limited Edition. The phone stuck perfectly fine with or without the case. I tried to get it to fall off, but it wouldn't budge. While driving, though, I noticed the phone shook a bit when used with the Seidio case. However, that case adds quite a bit of weight to the phone. When used naked, I rarely noticed the phone shaking or vibrating at all. Very easy to view the screen clearly while driving. The pad doesn't leave a single bit of grime on the back of the phone once you detach it. I've attached and removed the pad a few times thus far and the phone is still sticking just fine.
If you're going to use this mount with a naked Evo or with a case that doesn't protect the camera lens too well, then be ready to possibly have the pad cover and stick to the lens. You can get around this, but then the upper part of the phone will not be attached to the pad. It's possible that the phone won't have as much support but from what I can tell, there shouldn't be any issues if you mount the pad below the camera. Again, the pad will not leave any grime, scratches, etc. to the lens if stuck to the pad.
Two things I'll be keeping an eye out for: First, will the pad still continue to be reliable in the future? Washing it with warm tap water to regain stickiness is easy enough, but we'll need to see how it lasts. Second, is how the pad will react to weather conditions. So far, it's been very easy to remove the phone from the pad. But I'm waiting to see how easy or tough it will be to remove the phone after it's stuck on the pad for 4+ hours in 95F weather (though the mount will be close to the A/C vents). And, how it will be in really cold weather later this year.
Overall, I'm very happy with this mount thus far. It's stable when driving, easier and clearer to see the screen due to less vibrations and the extended arm and easy to assemble/disassemble. MUCH better than the Sprint universal mount, and $15 cheaper. If there's interest, I'll post some pictures and my experience with the mount early next week after my long driving trip over the weekend.

Thanks for that update man. I didn't get a chance to pick that up yesterday.

I'll get more when it's in my car shortly. One pic has the phone upside down, which is kind of blurry. I was shaking the mount around.

My personal car dock setup(oh god, another one!?)-video

First off let me state that, yes, sorry, another car dock thread, but i feel that i have a really damn good setup that i haven't seen anyone post pictures or videos of yet(sorry if i missed one :x). Secondly, sorry for the long length, I drone on sometimes, but at least it isn't too ridiculously long.
But, to business, i bought the M2 car mount, and a cheapo case off of ebay, and must i say, i am QUITE impressed with my setup, turned out WAY better than my expectations. Works perfect, spent just over ten dollars on both items(case case with a really good screen protector as well!), overall win! It spins like a charm, holds up great, everything is amazing with it. The little adhesive circle is literally just a tiny bit bigger than a penny, slightly rounder and just as thick, barely noticable when you hold it in case you wish to use the case day to day. Adhesive strips work good both on this and in the car, extremely strong! Case covers camera lens which is a HUGE plus, great buy links will be below the pictures! Lo and behold, the video:

Nice!
I picked up a few of those m2 mounts as well, they're really nice.
I've got mine mounted a little lower, sorta inbetween radio and climate controls, but I'm tempted to move it to the top for the in car video capability.
And nice find on that case! Looks like the closest one to a case-mate barely there yet. I've been waiting for one of those, but they've been out of stock forever.
The previous ebay ones had the big oval hole cutout for the flash camera and speaker all in one opening which I didnt like. May just have to jump on these ones.
Nice find, and lookin good.

Next long trip i take, i'm probably going to record the entire trip and turn it in to a time lapse, would probably do one of my hopeful future trip from chicago to pheonix as well, that would be crazy! Also, I've been using the case for a bit now, and i must say, i love it, i would recommend it to you 100% man.
Ordered 2 black and 2 white cases. What will I do with 4 cases you ask. I have no clue. lol
I figure I can have the dot from the m2 mount on a black and white, and then have two naked cases as well. shoot for 3.99 shipped from hong kong.. why not!
I bit the bullet and bought the mount. Who knows when Sprint will be selling a specific EVO CarDock..
Going on cross country trip next month and need it.
I have the same mount but a clear case. The clear case does not need to be sanded.
I put the lock tab to the left, so that way I never have to worry about the lock tab. It has never fallen off. This makes it a lot easier to rotate the phone.
I also tightened down the mount so that it doesn't pivot at all, makes it much much easier getting it on and off of the mount.
Question, how solid is the mount? Does it handle the road vibrations well? My biggest complaint from most mounts is they don't absorb the vibrations thus watching a movie (for example) would be extremely difficult.
Thanks in advance!
I have no problem putting mine in anymore, it was simply because that was literally the like...second time i had tried it. But yeah, i ended up tightening it up really good, never moves an inch anymore(jiggles a LITTLE when I hit BIG potholes, otherwise good). I would say if you have really crappy shocks in your car, it might jiggle a bit, but my car has pretty crappy shocks and it isn't really bad enough to the point that it annoys me at all.if you don't want any jiggling, you have to lock that thing down hard.
just so you guys know...
i bought a cheap case (1 penny), a cheap car charger ( 3 pennies) and an inexpensive mount (9 dollars), with 5 dollars shipping for all three items (total, not separate), from different retailers, on amazon day before yesterday.
grand total? less than 16 bucks for all three.
should be here in a few days. will let you guys know how it fairs
Got to love how cheap this crap is, think i got mine for a total of(including the extra batters/wall charger) 24 bucks, pretty damn good deals considering all of the stuff i got was pretty good quality!
Thanks "Tickle My Elmo"
Just installed the car Mount and it works perfectly. I have a NAVI in my Honda Ridgeline so my main purpose is to use it to listen to SLACKER when I go cross country next month.
Thanks again..
I just jumped on this... I plan on making some type of "snap in" with a Seido case.
I went ahead and bought the M2 and I also purchased the case from Deal Extreme http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.40745 ... If the suction mount doesn't work well (Honda Element), might add double sided tape and mount to my dash tray where the aux input is... If I'm not satisfied going to use the snap on from suction mount and mount the disc from the M2 to it.
So I bought the case linked here and recieved a completely different case 1 month later. I wanted this case because it looks exactly like the case-mate barely there. What I got was a two piece case with a piece that covers the back and a front piece that sandwiches the phone....not very happy at all.

Car kit w/ Otterbox Commuter?

Has anyone got one that works with this yet or jimmy-rigged one to work?
Also, I'm gonna cut this effing rubber HDMI/mini-USB piece off!
Lol...yea I've had mines on for 1hour now nd thinking of cutting it WHEN it starts to annoy me.
sent from the current baddest cell phone on the planet.....the HTC Evo 4G
I bought the Kensington K39210US Vehicle Mount discussed in another thread title "Low Profile Car Mount" (I can't add external links)
My commuter case just arrived at home today...sadly after I had already dropped the phone yesterday! Bummed...but it could've been a lot worse. Only some minor dings on the corners.
Back on topic, I have the car kit coming in tomorrow. As soon as I put both in place, I will let you know how it works out. I've been told that the Seido Active case works with the car kit in the link and that the Commuter is similar in thickness as Seido if not thinner.
Brian
Awesome, I'd appreciate it. Take pics when you've got it going... If it works; I'll buy it ASAP! I need it before Oct 1st, going to the Grand Canyon
if anyone tries this with the siedio car kit and it works please let us know.

I just got the Commuter case from the local Sprint store over lunch, and can confirm it works just fine with this Arkon universal windshield and vent mount:

Sorry for lack of updates guys. I got my tracking info early last week for UPS and from the updates, I should've had the mount since the 16th!
As of now, there have been no new updates on where the package is. Really annoying. I hope I get the package today so I can test out and report back here. If not, I'll have to chase UPS down to see what's up.
Sorry for the delay.
My Kensington mount arrived yesterday.
In short, the EVO w/ Otterbox Commuter does fit onto the mount. Though I have to say (similar to the Seido case), given the Commuter adds a little bit of thickness and because the hard case is a little slick, the EVO may fall out easily (either landscape or portrait).
I snapped it on and gave it a little shake and it holds fairly well, but that doesn't mean going over large bumps or potholes will necessarily hold it in place.
I haven't been able to test it in vehicle yet as the vents in my car don't accommodate the vent mount and stupid California outlaws windshield mount. I will attempt to use Windshield regardless and will report my experience.
I will also post pictures (hopefully this weekend) so you guys can see what I'm referring to. All in all, perhaps with a little modification like adding thin layer of rubber onto the grips may work even better.
Brian
Awesome yeah... You're not gonna get pulled over a windshield mount, as long as you don't have it in a spot which makes it difficult to see in front of you.
Please post pics ASAP. I need to get this rockin by the 29th as I'm going on a road trip
Yeah I figure the likelihood isn't too high to get pulled over as much as me not having a front plate. =)
I'll try to shoot for earlier than the weekend to get pics on here.
Yeah hurry up homes
Seems everyone is waiting on Brian75 to post pics, but thought I would post pics of my EVO in my Commuter case, mounted in the Arkon universal windshield mount in my car. You'll notice the silicon tab covering the charging and HDMI ports on the bottom fit perfectly between the feet of the universal mount.
Just offering an alternative to the Kensington mount, and much more secure. No chance the EVO is coming out of the mount unless I want it to.
Decide for yourself how ugly it is. I have no issues with it. Sorry for the poor quality pictures. It was too sunny yesterday.
I think it's great, but it's a pain in the ass to keep putting your phone in and zipped it tight...
Does it also rotate ... for like map view?
Yes it rotates to landscape - sorry I didn't take any pictures in that orientation. The universal cradle is mounted to the arm with a ball joint that has adjustable tension and will swivel 360 degrees. It also tilts up and down enough to be able to have the EVO pointed at you for a straight-on viewing angle.
To be honest, I leave it in the orientation shown 99% of the time.

I respectfully disagree. I put my EVO in and take it out with one hand without issue. Have you used this mount for any length of time to generate this opinion?

the BEST universal car mount out there

i didn't see this posted anywhere, but it is hands down the best car mount out there...unless you use CDs for music
http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-MT500..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1296490219&sr=1-1
im sure the first question would be whether it trips the autoload or not, which it does not, it isn't nearly long enough in probably 99.9% of car cd players
the thing is tight and doesn't wobble at all but can easily be removed if need be, oh and the bottom plate can be removed, so its just the two gripper thingies
its also at the perfect eye level (for me anyway: mitsubishi lancer), and doesnt obscure the view of the road at all.
Personally I use the Clingo vent mount and I think that its the BEST car mount ever! All you see is the phone not some bulky grips on the sides. These things work! Just my two cents! www.clingo.com
unfortunately due to the placement of my vents and the view obstruction (annoyance) of windshield ones, conventional mount locations are out of the question...ive seen that clingo before, and i agree it is a nice solution as well
I just bought a clingo right after I read this thread. And its awesome. Check out the youtube videos. The vibrant really sticks on harder than your crazy ex gf lol or a dog

Mine is not a universal mount but one just for the vibrant. I have a huge extended battery on my vibrant. Since there was nothing available, I made a custom holster out of kydex that fits it like a glove, access to all buttons, speaker and camera lens (for times i want to film my bicyling). Impossible for it to pop out. You physically have to unclip it out of the holster to release it. I made it with a 1/4" thread on the back so I can use it anywhere you would mount a camera. I made a stand just for it in and my bluetooth keyboard in my van. It can adjust from vertical to horizontal very easily. When i go biking, the holster attaches to the handlebar mount I made. It will also fit any camera tripod.
i bought this hoping to use it as a camera mount for track days with my car.

it was too shaky for my camera but if you just needed a mount for GPS or some other use, this worked very well with my phone in a TPU case. i found it for $12 on amazon
I purchased an Arkon megagrip for mine and was so pleased I ended up getting 2 more... 1 for my wife and 1 to use at work. It may have bulky pads on the side to hold it, but I know it will never let go unless I hit the release button. Perfect function and easy access to everything. Vent mounted in my car, dash mounted at work.

Same sentiment here. The mount feels solid there is no wobble when im using it and it holds the Vibrant beautifully. Thank you for a solid find.
That looks interesting, but I'm thinking you'd be SOL with that bad boy and a headunit like mine.
I use one of these and it works perfect:

no sir, you can keep whatever CD is in
I bought a Soundgate M2 mount from Amazon. Small footprint, solid and no wobble.
You do have to attach a tape on the back of the case to mount it so might not be for everyone.
You can do a search on youtube for sample installs.

Mine showed up in the mail today. Simply a great mount, Thanks for the tip!
today i bought a universal mount from rocketfish. the bicycle and car mount. i think i'm going to like this thing. the arm itself looks like what turbosix has, but it has the mount itself like what most universals have with the padded sides and the legs at the bottom.
what i really like about this is that i do NOT have to take off my silicone cover when i put the phone in a landscape position. it barely fits the device when it is extended all the way. and i can have it oriented so that i can take pictures with it when i want.
I just got the offiical Samsung Vehicle Navigation Mount Car Kit
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Vehic...QL1FII&s=merchant-items&qid=1298670628&sr=1-1
Cost was $34.11 after activating the 10% special offer code listed on the Amazon link above. While I was concerned about comments that the audio out did not work... it works PERFECTLY on my Vibrant running Froyo 2.2 You have to read the short instructions, OK so some of us don't like to "read" and "follow" written instructions, which tells you to download the Samsung Car/Home app... make sure you get the newest version of the app which supports Froyo... and when you run the app you have to touch the speaker icon to disable the internal speaker which then enables the audio output from the headphone jack on the Car cradle... a little confusing at first BUT it is a great mount AND the app works fine also... highly recomended!
Did a video of the mount in case anyone else is still doubting this mount.

The mount is simply amazing. It's all you need.

I have the same Rocketfish mount and it's pretty impressive. I use this bodyglove case and I don't have any problems putting it in the mount. The suction cup has NEVER come loose from my windshield - winter or summer - and the phone sits solid. Plus I like the ease of switching the mount from landscape to horizontal.
But after watching the Clingo video, I'm already considering buying one.
Damn. I want one and they are all out everywhere

Car Vent mounted holder

What do you think of this? Looks like it'll do the job as it allows a case on the phone and it rotates. Think I might order one, what do you reckon? Although I wonder if it would press against the power on/off button.
I don't think many vent mounted holders rotate, at least, I could only find one other.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Vent-...ers_Mounts&hash=item2564feb988#ht_1506wt_1396
I was considering this one too, but not sure if it'll take a case and I read one persons review somewhere that on a hot day the glue melted on part of the holding part and his phone fell.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Air-V...ers_Mounts&hash=item5d2fe2012d#ht_2590wt_1163
i think you might struggle to get to the power button on the first one. but that seller does offer 7 day money back...so worth a punt.
and your right, i don't think the second one will take a case too.
I went for a cup holder mount (don't like stuff on the screen) for my MINI.

works a treat!
Do you use your CD player in the car? I use a car mount where it mounts to the opening of the CD. Works great!
search eBay phone CD mount.
You can kind of see it in this picture,

Thanks guys. Cup holder would be decent, but my car doesn't have one, at least, not a proper deep one.
Nice car lexi, I guess that's why you called yourself that
Yeah, I use my player, so that wouldn't work for me. Might still go for the
first one I linked and hope it doesn't press too hard on the power button. I'll message the seller and ask him if it does that. As long as it doesn't, then I certainly don't need access to it as I always have the phone on anyway.
I've tried all sorts of car mounts (including the official Samsung Galaxy S II car dock), but nothing worked for my requirements, except for Exomount.
Here's my requirements: I want to be able to video-record my driving on the background (as evidence in court in case of an accident), and have Navigon running concurrently on the foregound.
Most car mounts would block the video lense, and would interfere with the volume rocker of the S II.
However, Exomount would stick anywhere (not just the windshield)...including the car dashboard, thus allowing you to adjust it so that it wouldn't block the camera lense or interfere with the side buttons.
If you want the cheap and nasty mounts on ebay that don't work as promised, you get what you pay for.
First ones quality is very bad and cheap. Sides are way big and ugly for this phone. Legs are not fixed and WILL break off very soon.
Second one does not fit if you buy samsung original 2000mAh extended battery. Actually I have been looking for nice car mount for extended battery and have found only one that may suit: hxxp://w w w.ebay.co.uk/itm/180724628107?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Dammnit, this is why I STILL don't own a vent mounted phone holder for the SGS2.
I mean, where on earth I do find a good quality one that rotates, is vent mounted, doesn't block the power button, takes a case, and won't fall apart?? You'd think someone would have made one by now.
I might consider this one instead...

That's exactly the one I was just going to ask about. Do you think it would take the phone with my case on?
http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/1399/back4d.jpg
http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/9586/front5j.jpg
If so, I think that could be the one to get, and I need a charger too, so that would be handy.
edit: I've just messaged the seller to ask if he knows if it'll fit with the case on.
My only concern is how stable the mount is. Check these two out. I think the first one is the same as the ebay link ?
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s2-car-vent-holder-p31451.htm
But does this second one share the same mount system, I can't tell.
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/universal-phone-vent-holder-p27265.htm
If so, I'm a bit concerned about one review:
"Great holder easy to fit to the vent in my van, very adjustable to get the phone in exactly the right position, even holds my iphone secure with the added thickness of an ijuice battery case fitted. Unfortunately the glue that holds the metal fixing bar into the plastic of the phone holder can't be strong enough and with the extremes of heat in a vehicle left in the sun, the bar releases from the glue and holder and falls off ! thankfully my phone wasn't attached at the time. The holder is so versatile that I didn't want to get rid, and with the use of a small black cable tie, is secure and tightly fitted back to my vent ( only a solution if you don't mind your holder permanently attached ) i rate the holder , shame about the fixing to the vent."

I have used this in vents, steering wheel, Dash - This thing is so flexible and strong with the best grip and is just plain versatile. Best thing I have purchased for my device - You can find it for a reasonable price on Amazon UK and Ebay.

There's no way I'd have something I'd have to spend several minutes bending and ensuring all the legs are securing the phone every time I get in the car tbh. Nice concept though.
It stays in the same position. You just slot the phone in to whatever shape you have prepared (Once) It is exactly the same as any other mount but has the ability to change shapes and fit in more obscure positions.
Awesome, I found 2 vent mounts which look pretty decent. I'm going to definitely buy one of these. I've messaged them to ask if the first one will work with my case instead of theirs. If it doesn't, then the second one with the extendable side clasps will be fine.

As uppon said, once it's in the vent, it stays in position and you don't have to rebend the legs to hold the phone. They're springy enough that you can just "clip" the phone into the prebent legs and it'll hold it perfectly.

Ah, I see. I didn't realise they're springy. I was thinking you'd have to bend out the prongs each time to get the phone in and then press them down in place again. But what if you want to quickly rotate the phone between portrait and landscape?
Anyway, I just ordered and paid for this, so I'm looking forward to it now : http://www.ultimate-mobiles.co.uk/m...g-galaxy-s2/car-kits/air-vent-mount___645.htm
Here's pics of just the holder part, looks pretty nice I think, not cheap and tacky like most holders http://www.ultimate-mobiles.co.uk/device-holders/mobile-phones/universal-mobIle-holder___776.htm

Greetings all.
So a while back I bought this car mount titled "Exogear Exomount Universal Car Mount for Samsung Galaxy Note N7000" from a seller named all_city.
The guy had pretty good feedback so I forked over 35 odd bucks and eagerly awaited the car mount to arrive.
I waited an awful long time (a good 3 and a bit weeks).
Usually things don't take this long but I thought maybe it has something to do with shipping from the states down to aus, but then a few weeks ago we bought something else from the states and it took like 4 days.
Anyways, so yea. First bad thing was that it took ages.
Shipping: 1/5
The mount arrived, the packaging was all satisfactory.
Nothing exciting here.
Went to the car, stuck it on top of the dashboard thing and it stuck pretty damn well.
I would shake it a lot more than the average bumpy car ride and it stuck brilliantly.
Won't complain too much about about the suction although on numerous occasions if the car (e.g. if I parked the car in the sun and left the mount stuck to the dash because I couldn't be bothered to unstick the it and put it away) got really hot the suction would get really crappy and then it would just fall right over. This happened a few times so yea.
Not sure if its meant to work in hot weather or something but to me this was kinda unfortunate.
Suction: 4/5
The mount itself is pretty nice and clean looking and it didn't cover the camera so you can (for whatever reason you'd want to) even record video whilst driving. So albeit not working too well in hot weather the car mount was pretty great.
For about 2 weeks.
Then one of the rubber grippy tip thing fell off.
Which sucked. I seriously hoped that a 30 dollar car mount from U.S would will last a little longer than 2 weeks.
Although this little grip issue wasn't all that big compared to what happens later.
What's big is when about 2 months (maybe 3) after using the mount, it explodes.
You heard me.
Honestly, I was just driving to work one day with music playing from my phone when suddenly a loud BANG occurs and my phone flys out and almost hits me. I swear it almost made me cause a car accident.
The clip of the mount snapped clean off.
Here's a few pictures.
Design/Build: 2/5
Now obviously the listing is no longer there but here's a similar one.
Even though it's advertised to be unique to the phone e.g. especially for iPhone, for Galaxy Note etc. they're all the same mount.
On the original listing it said it could house the Galaxy Note (hence the specialised listing name) plus devices up to 5.5 inches but on this iPhone listing it says only up to 5 inches (which could explain why it blew up in my face).
I usually buy cheap things that are shipped from China but I thought I would give the expensive thing shipped from the states a shot.
Obviously you might have different experiences with this mount because I heard great reviews from people before buying it, but here is my honest review about my experiences.
Needless to say I have been quite disappointment.
Overall: 2/5
I've recently ordered this cheap knock-off exogear mount (shipped from China btw) after Blu3Fr0g's recommendation and might write follow up review when it arrives.
Well mine just did exactly the same thing, but after about 6 months...
Did you ask for a warranty claim on it?

Damn! I was going to buy the Exomount 2.0 today! I do not want to see my N 2 flies over and causing me an accident! Also, It is not a cheap phone so I do not want it to have scratches! Thank you for your review! I do appreciate reviews from people. Sorry for your experience too.
Just a warning to everyone purchasing from all_city on Ebay... they don't offer a 12 Month warranty.
And refuse to honour any warranty on this item past 30 days.. I believe most items should have a 12 month warranty against defects such as this.
I"m using this one too and for me it's the best mount I ever bought.

It's a good mount... until it breaks.
How long have you been using it for?
Since the beginning of August 2012.
8 months till now.
Ended up purchasing another from a different supplier, who offers warranty (supposedly, they always change when something happens).
Interestingly I asked Exo Gear about this and have not heard from them (via email)....
Thanks to advise, because i want to buy a car mount like that and i´m affraid that my Note goes fly in case of broke... (sory about my english).
Does exomount 2 have the same problem of breaking?

I'm not sure. I don't have one so I can't test it.
Though I have been using the cheap knock-off one, mentioned in the OP, for a while now and it still hasn't exploded.
The rubber grips are still attached and are stuck on much better than the Exogear. They don't look like they're going to come off any time soon.
The suction cup still suffers the same problem as the Exogear though. When it gets really hot or really cold, it can lose suction and cause the mount to become unstuck. My phone (mount included) has fallen off numerous times when travelling.
I don't know if this is because I stick it on top of my dashboard and not on the windscreen.
Either way, the stand while only mediocre is still better than the Exogear one.
I've still yet to find a well-built, affordable, universal car mount that works in all weather conditions and can be attached to either the windscreen or the dashboard.
This mount looks good http://www.amazon.com/Aduro-Univers...d-Revolution/dp/B008ALV0V4/ref=cm_rdp_product

That does seem like a pretty good mount. And the top review is both humorous and convincing.
You should give it a go and let us know what it's like.
If they ship to Australia (which I don't think they do), I might get my hands on one after my current one breaks.
Mine is still working like a charm.

I'm a big fan of the Mountek CD Slot Mount. Nothing beats it yet in terms of solidity. Of course, you do sacrifice your CD slot, but who uses CDs nowadays anyway?

I was gonna buy the new Exogear Touch because of its easy one hand put/pull operations but if the suction is the same as yours then it's a no go for our country (Lebanon) where temps can reach 38c in summer. Last year my ex-M7 got a scratch on the screen because it felts with a cheap dashboard mount,I don't want my brand new M8 to suffers the same fate.
Exogear doesn't give you a ''3M'' scotch pad for dashboard? I am actually using one with a cheap car mount's suction cup on it
I"m using this one too and for me it's the best mount I ever bought.
Thanks for the inspiration, i will try to find a Exogear Touch now :good:
Great review! Thanks
I have had this same mount for two years now without a problem. I paid like 9 euros for it though. I don't use car mount that much because usually I don't need a navigator but on long trips it's useful. Worked like a charm so far. :good:
