[Q] Dash backlight questions - HTC Excalibur

You all should know by now I am a active member on the forum answering questions when I and by no means am I stupid when it comes to tweaking my Dash: Black but I am having a tricky question; and yes I did use the search feature but didn't find much to these specific questions.
1]. I remember I once tweaked the brightness of my dash so it wasn't as bright, does anyone know how I did that because I can't remember for the life of me.
2]. I also am wondering if there is a way to keep the back light on when I am using Opera or another app on my phone but when I go to my home screen it only stays on for like 5 seconds [which is the minimum] because I like to save battery power but I also like to read articles on my phone. Any suggestions? Thanks again guys!

Yes I have, there is only so much that option will allow you to do. I am thinking there's a registry tweak somewhere that I am forgetting that would allow this to happen, or maybe a 3rd party app.

There was life before Excalibur
Look for "Tornado Lowlight" - this may work.
It has the same chipset (OMAP 850).

[SOLVED] Flashing Service LED

Well I have searched and searched and can not seem to figure out how to disable the service led without disabling all the functions of ALLledmgr. Of course that works but that means vibration and a number of other things. Someone had mentioned the nled reg entry hack tried that no luck. I have looked through countless dlls and files for any reference that might come close to disabling the service led but I just cant seem to find it. So many other phones(cheap phones) let you disable it why cant this one?
I remember back to a simple hex edit on my motorola that could do many things we even had script files that could change the leds colors etc and do crazy things on boot etc(that was linux of course).
So any of you pros out there came across anything that might be related to the service led?
i love the service LED's if it werent for them i wouldnt like my TyTN as much .. they really mean that much to me
sadly we're not in the good ole' motorola days (that was bliss) but i have the perfect soloution! :
Get a black permanent marker, and colour in the Service LED
et voila!! it no longer flashes and you still have vibrate, sounds etc ...
LOL
That´s was a really tip problem solution !!
Service LED does not bother me at all.
Or gently mash it with a sharp knife or screwdriver. (same solution for that silly light/speaker on cars that warn you to put a seatbelt on)
Maybe I wasnt clear about what I wanted. When I meant service led I meant that it just constantly flashes green to tell you that you have a signal. I want my leds to work, but the way I want them to. I want them to flash when I have a missed call or unread message etc. I just do not want it to constantly flash green in a service area Im always in a service area.
Many of you laugh of course and say it doesnt bother you etc. But I bet that when it is figured out where and how it is access and then being able to customize it change its colors etc, those who laugh will also be among the people using those nifty custom leds(blue for bluetooth, green for message, orange for missed call etc. So try and support the idea instead of laughing at it.
For me seeing that green flash over and over is just a constant reminder of something I can not customize on my super customized phone.

Wow the attatched file actually worked! Still maintain all other functions with only the service led disabled. Im going to start ripping it apart and see if I can come up with anything new.
Thanks much for finding it, making it, or whatever, hats off to you.

that one was too early. it has a bug when charging. i have a 3.1 version that reads if the charger is on and works better. if you want it let me know.

Please do post the 3.1 verison and thanks
The first one you posted seems to e 3.0 the second 2.1, ill try it to see whats the difference but 3.0 works fine even when charging except it gives you a flashing orange led instead of constant on led, letting it charge to full and see what happens. Yes please post any versions you have so I can try to see the different modifications they are doing between them.
I can see that it is simply using a mort script to scan the notification que for changes and using the treo exe to make modifications. Im in the process of decompiling the treo exe to see what mods can be made.
My concern here(which may be a retarded one so small) that you have a fight going on with the phone constantly telling it to do one thing and the mortscript and treo exe telling it to do something else. I can see that mortscript is using about 3%cpu cycle every 5 seconds or so. Not sure if that is going to impact battery usage or not, but my end goal would be do away with the fighting and just having the os do what its supposed to do.

I would like to request that anyone who likes or uses this app please stop by thier forums and send a thank you. After reading through all the threads they put alot of time and effort to make it work. And although it was not designed for our phones by chance it works. I have already sent my thank yous and hope more will do the same.

@psiodon: Did you do any "re-work" on it? If yes, could u please attach here so everybody can benefit?
Thanks
Chris
No I have not done anything at all since it is already functional, what I am currently looking into is the other three leds that we have and what can done with them. Im also trying to figure out more info on our leds, if they are only tri color, etc and if its possible to get our two green and red phone leds blinking as a notification as well, but I am pretty sure those two leds are controlled together as on or off and probably cannot be controlled individually, time will tell.
Psiodon
Did this work on HTC Artemis (o2 Orbit) too?
Thank you!
Just a quick note of thanks to CodyPPC for the link!
That damned service light has been annoying me for months - I've taken to putting the phone in a draw / turning it upside down to stop the flashing annoying me when trying to get to sleep in an otherwise totally dark room!
This was the 1st site to come up on a google search - and am really impressed - cheers!
I'll send thanks to the devs on the other forum as well.
It looks like you're looking to enhance/fiddle with this further - controlling the LED's in various ways - - have you made any progress? are you in a position to share any code (compiled/source) or tips? I just want to dabble - have no real goal in mind - -- - the main thing is no more flashing green!!! woo!

[APP] [REQUEST] Notifications

Hi all,
This is my first post on xda so please move it to the right section if this isn't it.
As the sgs2 doesn't have a notification led I was wondering if there is a possibility to have the soft keys flash upon receiving a text or an email and so on.
Reason I thought id suggest it because my other phone the lg o2x has the same issue with regards to the led and there is an app for that.
I am willing to buy it from the market to support the developer of course.
What you are looking for is called Backlight Notfication or BLN and as far as i know the kernel for the phone needs to support this. Since the SGS2 is fairly new there isn't a kernel with working BLN yet but most of the kernel hackers are looking into this feature. I'm sure it's coming, it just needs some time.
Hope this answers your question even if it doesn't help you with your problem.
Thanks for the quick answer. I just thought id put it out there.
It's not really an issue since most ppl prob check their phone regularly but I think it would be a nice addition to have it think.... Especially at night when you don't really want to turn your phone on every few mins to check for a notification
I miss this as well.
It seems to be rly complicated to implement, as some ppl are working on it for quite some month (!) now and still there's no BLN available… I hope that some day we'll have it nevertheless…

Well, if you consider that these people do it all in their free time then "month" suddenly isn't that much. Also this is probably not a top priority in the first kernel releases. These will concentrate on speed and stability, before new features are added.
Patience is a virtue, especially if you don't have to pay for the finished product

Not a stupid question at all, I'll bare that in mind next time.
Great review. Of all the things discussed in your review and on the forum the only one that concerns me is battery life. It seems to be getting better but using the same apps the same way I did with my SGS2 I'm getting about 30% less battery life and that's with a larger battery.
I know skins like Sense are a hot button on XDA but as SoC power rises the the performance drain is becoming less of an issue. My personal view is that I use my phone to get things done. Having a phone that's faster than everyone elses in benchmarks is secondary. I've been using Sense 4.0 for a week and I've really come to admire the work HTC's done with it. Here's some examples of subtle things they've done to improve productivity.
- The productivity lock screen is brilliant. The ability to see incoming notifications (and scroll through them) without having to unlock the phone is a great idea. As is being able to go directly to them via the ring.
- When sending a rejection text to an ignored incoming caller, Sense creates a task to remind you to call them back.
- Integrating third party music players in to the Music Hub and displaying them full sceen on the lock screen so you can control them is also a nice feature.
There are some faults too.
- No voice dialer to enable BT calling. Seriously?
- No LinkedIn connector for the FriendStream. Come on, it's 2012 and they just IPO'd.

xdaman,
Great review for the HOX. The night photos are not great and the last one wasn't in-focus. I think HTC needs to fine tune the night settings for better performance. What firmware are you running on the tested HOX? Did you have any screen flickering? Any of the common bugs?
Thanks.

[BATTERY]Battery Life Stats Issues thread for the One X

Right i know there is a thread regarding battery stats. That is were everyone post their stats and basically each member show off their battery life and show off to people how much screen on time they can get.
What i want to do with this thread is the opposite. I want to help people who have issues with regarding poor battery life to post here there problems, to post information on their setup and were they think it is going wrong as to why they have poor battery life.
Rather than posting these issues on each individual thread all over the forum why not just keep it in one place. So that myself and hopefully more experienced members can help out others who have issues as in regarding the battery life and try to see for example what app keeps the phone awake while phone is suppose to be sleeping and try and guide members on how to resolve their issues and give them the battery that they are suppose to have.
I will try and do most of the helping and provide links to threads for example the BBS thread were you can download the application and find out what wakelocks you have and post your screenshots here of the app so we can see where the issues lie.
I am doing this to help and to keep the forums clean and organised and to keep the development threads less cluttered with battery issues. If you have those kinda issues then come here and i will try my best to help out.
If Mods feel that this thread is pointless then please close the thread. But i hope you understand my logic behind this thread and my goal to help out people were they need it.
Thanks to you all and thanks to all the developers who take their time to provide us with something amazing for our phones and to the Mods who keep our threads in order
BetterBatteryStats Explanation
Right here is were i will explain how BetterBatteryStats works. I know i do not have my phone back so it is kinda hard to post screenshots with explanations on how to work the app but will try my best to explain without it.
First of all here is the link were you can find the application:
BetterBatteryStats Thread
Apart from Titanium Backup for me BBS is the next must have application for your android phone and especially for the One X. Thanks to this application i have learned a lot in my time here on XDA on how to sass out what keeps the phone awake and what to do on how to go about fixing the issue and stoping the wakelock from happening.
Now i am thankful for more experienced members and kernel developers who take their time to explain on the different threads on what are the wakelocks and what issues they can cause. One of them is the dreaded AudioOut3 wakelock. That is caused by having keypad tones on, which is ticked in sound in settings and also lockscreen sounds and dialpad touch sounds on. By disabling those you save yourself massive battery time. To give you an example of what i mean here is an explanation:
*AudioOut_1 AudioOut is used to play notification and system sounds. Putting your device on silent or at least unticking in settings-sound and untick the following:
Touch keypad sound
Lockscreen Sound
Dialpad Touch Tone sound
This will make the wakelock go away. (thanks to Sishgupta and his thread is here for more info)

To follow more on a detailed basis regarding BetterBatteryStats is at the following link here when you can get connected to the wiki site

Other issues that i found out that drain my battery is keeping Facebook on all the time and twitter as well. I would not recommend either to have on at the same time but if i was to choose which one i would like to keep constant notifications would be Twitter.
But my advice would be to once you finished from checking your Facebook stuff to log right back out straight away. Cause the connection will always be connected and that makes the phone to stay wake even when phone is in deep sleep
*Another thread that a few other members have unfortunately encountered wakelocks similar to what i have just posted here and they just go about explaining what they have done to encounter those wakelocks and stop them. These wakelocks again are the facebook and audioOut. Thread link here
*Deleting your battery stats in recovery. Do not do that. Does not improve battery at all. Bare fact it does not do anything actually. You can find more on this here.
Battery stats, stored in the batterystats.bin file, are only used to maintain information about what is using the battery when not recharging. That is, it essentially holds the information displayed in the Settings > Battery screen. Nothing more, nothing less. Thus:
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.

very funny. no just untick in settings -sound and untick touch keypad sounds- lockscreen sounds and dialpad tones. use haptic feedback instead and use notification tones and normal ringtones. that way trust me you shall see that you will have very minimal audioout wakelock

Yes and did you check how much relevant difference such a wakelock makes in battery percentages? Now, trust me, <2% for a whole 24 day cycle. Thus, irrelevant

I beg to differ. It could be depending on what kernel you may be running or not but i have encountered massive drainage specially overnight due to this wakelock. And unfortunately the only way to beat this is to do as stated not just by me but also in the wiki thread
Some kernels you do not have that wakelock but on some you do.. I am still trying to build this thread up as i feel it has potential and gives more of a heads up to people out there what causes the battery to drain.
Only doing this as to help out noobs who just bought this phone. I want them to know what causes the issues they might face. If the phone of a user is set up properly and as you know yourself if you have it setup the right away you can get amazing battery life. So this is the idea behind the thread. To help out others

One more question, what do you call 'massive drainage'? 5,10,20,50% overnight in 8 hours?

10% my friend. i really wished i did this thread when i had my phone and to be able to post shots of what i am talking about..that way it would make it more clearer to everyone. like i said i will be doing more testing and prove my theories that what other people have tried worked.
so once i get my phone back i will be doing the following from a fully charged battery. One to try and cause whatever wakelock i can specially the facebook one and the audiout one. Two on a second cycle i will do the following steps mentioned above and show people the difference that those steps can make and how much difference in battery i have saved

Q&A for [ROM][D855][20A][Lollipop] --|||..:: ChupaChups Rom::..|||--
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM][D855][20A][Lollipop] --|||..:: ChupaChups Rom::..|||--. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.

19h to chupachups
hi guys.
Sorry, new here, quick question, how would one get from 19h to this version?
getting allot of lag and i think its due to upgrading to 19h instead of installing fresh.
Sorry of the question is basic and if its answered somewhere. i had a hint around without luck.
Thanks
can you port this rom to d850?
Google Services Battery Drain
One would think with all the development in both lollipop and kitkat that this problem would have been fixed and implemented into all the new rom releases. Google Services battery drain depletes the battery preventing the phone from deep sleep and accounts for quite allot of drainage. A fix would be nice from the developers, Thanks.
@Skin1980
there are no notifications, but why my led keeps blinking?
Brave Frontier anyone?
anybody here play brave frontier? i wanted to try this rom but i'm hesitant to make the switch because in the stock kitkat rom, the game would constantly crash (even with all effects off).. Currently on AOSP it works well, but I miss the sleek look of the LG UI

Hi,
First of all, thank you for your hard work.
Could you please advise, if it's possible to customize this ROM somehow? I would love to:
1) Remove all lg software
2) Remove stock browser
3) Replace stock dialer with something else
4) Replace messaging app with let's say Textra or something similar
5) Have only Core Google Apps (something like PA-Gaps Nano)
Sorry for noob questions.
Thank you very much,
Yuriy
I dirty flashed this and ever since music from Google Play and Soundcloud just refuses to play. I can play music locally in other apps but even local music won't play in Googe Play Music. Has anyone else had this problem?
Banker Z Concern or False Positive?
Avast alerted me as well. Seems like it was able to remove it and everything was working before it was detected and still is after it was removed. Could be a false positive since a lot of people are reporting it now but better to be safe for now and let Avast and them go to work.
Thank you very much @Skin1980 for the great work! I'm having a little bug about notification LED. I'm having blinking white LED like Whatsapp default LED notification even if I haven't got any new message. I flashed the new kernel and using the Lollipop Theme of Kickoff.
Knock code is buggy
I don't know if someone else is having problem with the knock code feature as well. I found that some times the knock code feature doesn't work properly. While the screen is off and after knocking the proper code the screen won't wake up, not even after double tapping on it. Even the LED that turns on when you introduce a wrong code is not turning on, it is like it was disable. I have to press the power button, wake up the screen and then introduce the code.
I have a quick circle case and a smartwatch connected as a trusted device to use the new Smart lock feature that comes with Lollipop. I'm not looking for a solution, just pointing out the bug, I'll flash the LG stock image as soon as it's realeased in my country.
By the way, none of the quick circle apps work. Only the ones that comes with the phone by stock. You might want to check that up.
Thanks for all your work, it is awesome to have a developer community like this one. =)
Anyone having issues on Feedly after moving to this rom or any other Lollipop rom ? When scrolling the sources list everything gets blank, then reappears, like it's some rendering problem.
