Hi Gentlemen,
I have noticed that after partitioning my sdcard with ROM manager I can no longer use the remount command I was able to use before using adb shell.
I am probably doing something stupid.
Can someone please guide me in the right direction if possible?
It will be greately appreciated
I wa able to figure it out, I needed to mount system while on clockwork.
The mod can delete this post if he decides.
Thanks

Hi everyone! Im having a little problem, all your help will be really appreciated, I rooted my phone with the paul Obrien guide since day 1, but the thing is that I cant write on the /data or /system partitions, not even using command prompt and adb, or in an emulator over the phone, and in recovery mode using command promp its impossible to acces any shell command ... Im rooted right!? I have the icon with the ninja or that little black guy (haha), and Ive installed apps like market enabler etc... At some point I think i installed busybox, please keep your answers as newbi as possible, im just starting with android.. Thanks!!
greeting from shanghai!
It's normal that you can't access it whilst on the phone (blame HTC I think).
You will need to run this from recovery before you can see your /system folder:
Code:
adb shell mount /system
How do you gain temporary nand unlock? All i wanted to do is copy 2 files into the /system/xbin/bb which doesnt seem to work with root explorer despite super user permission, copy paste just wont work.
Any ideas how to copy paste these 2 files without going to full s-off? Would the adb method work? or any other apk that can do the job?
Thanks in advance for those who can help and any tips is very much appreciated.
In recovery with adb.

any links to it? a guide perhaps? thanks for the tip.
Make a nandroid before messing with the system partition.
Then:
Code:
adb remount
adb push <file_name> /system/xbin/bb
This is what i think it is just looking at the basic adb commands, here is some more info about moving stuff to the system partition.

btw, how do i get to adb with recovery?
You do know that adb is part of the android sdk and not some function/app on the phone?
To get adb working (i hope you already installed it) just boot in to recovery, connect the usb cable, and launch adb via command prompt or terminal.

many thanks! i will try this tommorow.
Use the update.zip I attached in this thread, you don't need to worry about adb then.

Ok I did my best, read alot about adb and followed some tips but I just cant seem to get these things working. I need a DETAILED step by step procedure.
I feel such a noob today, can anyone please help?
Basically, I just wanted to copy "ifconfig" and "route" from "/system/xbin" to "system/xbin/bb" and thats it! Im s-on by the way and dont want a full s-off just to copy paste 2 files.
I tried rebooting in recovery with adb and run some commands on "adb shell", many things came out and I have no idea what it ment.
Well many things came out is not such a great description. So i have no idea if something is wrong or something happened which you did not expect.
Boot again in to recovery and connect adb.
The type "adb devices" this should output something like:
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
HT##########
If this does not happen you don't have a connection and most likely have driver issues (only if you are on windows). If you do get a connection next thing to do is mount the system partition as read/write. To do this type "adb remount".
The output should be "remount succeeded"
Next type "adb shell"
This should give "#" as output .
Since you know where the files are and where you want them to go type "mv /system/xbin/ifconfig /system/xbin/bb" and hit enter, you don't get any conformation about this. Next type "mv /system/xbin/route /system/xbin/bb"
To check if they go moved correctly type " ls /system/xbin/bb", now you should see the files listed.
Next type "exit" to end the adb shell.
Then type "adb reboot".
If this doesn't work you need to give more info about the errors you get or maybe someone else has a better description.
A completly other method is, if you are able to copy the files to your computer, useing the .zip mercianary linked to, just make sure the system/app folder is empty and that you make the system/xbin/bb folder and place the files in there. Then just follow the instructions.
Rooted with this method completely stock kernel...
Ok I am new to Samsung but not new to rooting and using adb. I have been searching and maybe I missed something but I can not get adb working properly on my phone and pc. adb remount does not work so I can not push any files over. I have tried all the methods with mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 ... etc...
I can get su permissions on the phone but it will not allow me to transfer any files over at all. I even tried to r/w permission with Root Explorer while connected to phone through cmd window and nada. I am not running CWM so I would like to push files over if I can. I have done it the root explorer way of copy and paste its just that way seems so sloppy to me.
Any help would be appreciated since I cant seem to find a method on the web that works for me
Thanks guys
How are you typing the push command? Remember there are 2 sdcards on this phone.
For the internal sdcard
Code:
adb push c:\this\place /sdcard
for the external sdcard
Code:
adb push c:\this\place /sdcard/external_sd
You *shouldn't* have to use mnt/sdcard/external_sd but give it a shot just to be sure.
Doesn't this phone have to be on for ADB to work? I thought I read that. Obviously that seems a bit odd since most have to be in recovery. Or am I wrong about the on part?
Lastly, if you can run 'adb shell' then use the 'cp' or 'mv' commands to get the files on there.
EDIT: Ok, I completely just misread your post. You're trying to write to the /system? Try mount -o remount,rw /system
I don't know why everyone uses the yaffs, mmcblk, and all the other craziness. You still mount /system just with more typing. Let me know if it works.

tried cp and mv still gave me problems moving file. I forget the error message I got. Also I know the proper push commands I used to do it with my Evo all the time. Its just that this phone wont let me mount system. What do you mean be on ADB?

I meant the phone needs to be on (with debugging selected) in order to use ADB and write to it. At least that's what I think I remember seeing. Could be wrong since I haven't used ADB with this phone yet.

adb shell
$ su

I'm probably as new to this phone as you are. Mostly just dealt with HTC. Past this point I have no idea what's going on. I can write to my /system - no problem. Hopefully one of the more seasoned guys will jump in here soon. Sorry I'm not much more of a help.

Odin method to do what? root? If so that is how I rooted thanks
I downloaded an app on the market that fix it.. thanks guys
I have installed Ubuntu touch on my flo via multirom. Everything is running great except, I cannot figure out how to access root (directory). When I try to remount root it spits out that it is write protected as read only. Does anyone know how to make root writeable? I would really like to be able to use apt-get.
I am also interested in wether or not ADB is supposed to work with Ubuntu Touch, so if either of these questions could be answered I would be gratefull. Google has been no help to me.

I have found my answer. First off, in the updated version of TWRP for multirom, in the multirom subsettings there is a tick box for ADB access. Doing this will let you connect to your Ubuntu rom through ADB.
Once I figured that out everything was rather easy.
Code:
adb shell
cd /
cd userdata
touch .writable-image
After that I reboot my device and I was able to use apt-get again. Hope this helps someone else.
Hey all, I'm using the Dirty Cow script to try and finally root my AT&T Note 4. I've got the terminal up and running in Linux and the script executes. I understand how the script works and know I'll essentially be able to give one execution root access. I'm attempting to give that to the TWRP Manager app so I can simply write a new recovery and then flash a different ROM, essentially rooting the device.
Where I run into trouble is finding the apk in the terminal window. Beyond the actual root directory the LS command doesn't work to list the file structure, so I have to go blind. Anyone have any advice on how I can find the apk file to point it to?
It's currently running 6.0 if that matters.
Thanks!
