[Q] 2.1-update1 to 2.2 Generic without root? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm really sorry to start a new thread, but I really need confirmation on what is the correct path to take.
My Desire this week received the vodafone branding update.
Details:
hboot 0.80
2.1-update1
Kernal
2.6.29-dd1a7713
Software Number 1.24.161.3
What is the correct thread to follow with the above details to install the unmodified htc 2.2 release (without root)?
Thanks

I'm in a similar boat.
I have a T-Mobile branded Desire (8181).
Running 2.1-update1, Kernel 2.6.29-3cb3dfbf, Build number: 1.15.110.11 CL155070
I just want to update to FroYo. To many guides to choose from.....

I would like to know the answer as well

How do I take this to 2.2 ? Do I wait for 02 ?
If I have to root, will I always have to use a specific way to update in the future ?
Thanks
I'm want to know this aswel ive been waiting for the o2 update but it still aint here, how hard is it to add 1 screen to the 2.2 froyo and send it out.
Could some one advise if this is the correct way to debrand and upgrade my desire..

Thanks
You need 2 things for a quick route to FroYo on your Desire:
1. A Goldcard (check the Dev forum for instructions)
2. The RUU file to run to update you to FroYo
If you can't find the RUU file you can get the 1.21 generic one and then get the OTA upgrade to 2.2
EDIT: It seems shipped-roms has been suspended so the host to the RUU files has been taken down. You'll need someone to rehost them (of Google them)
EDIT: This should work...

Bare in mind that doing what I suggested will give you a completely stock - and unrootable - Desire so only do it if you want to keep your phone stock
Thanks.
rooting isn't important to me.. but...
If I wait for O2 to upgrade to 2.2 would that allow rooting ?
Does this way stop it totally or is the default stock rom that could be rooted when someone sorts it ?

Has anyone upgraded a Telus (Canada) Desire to Froyo?

I have a Desire from Telus in Canada. I would REALLY like to upgrade to Froyo and wanted to know how to do it in a safe way that won't mess up the phone. So I'm wondering if anyone here has done it yet.
Please let me know!
This is what my Software Information screen shows:
Firmware version
2.1-update1
Baseband version
32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Kernel version
2.6.29-e5576724
htc-kernel and18-2 #1
Build number
1.29.661.1 CL198499 release-keys
Software number
1.29.661.1
Browser version
WebKit 3.1
Use the general guides for rooting the device with revolt (make sure you grab the custom image for SLCD screens!), then head over to modaco and you can find a stock Froyo rom there unless you want to run a custom one.
for me i didn't have to do any rooting. first i used this guide. create a gold card first though. after creating the gold card, i used this very first link in the first post to update to froyo (2.09.405.8). after that, you can go to ota updates in the settings on the desire and it will then upgrade it to 2.10.405.2.

new HTC Desire T-Mobile branded doesn't show froyo update

Hello,
Today I received my brand new german HTC Desire (T-Mobile branded) with Android version 2.1. I wanted to install the OTA 2.2 update, but it doesnt show anything, although I tried checking for updates manually.
firmware: 2.1-update1
baseband : 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Kernel: 2.6.29-3cb3dfbf
software-number: 1.15.110.11
Any ideas?
I tried removing battery for some time, changing sim.
Hope you can help me.
It may sound stupid.... but have you asked t-mobile?
Update to froyo has been announced officially for desire long time ago so it should be available for all devices. Perhaps there's something wrong with your device.

Nothing there on screen while swithcing on desire

Hi,
I downgraded my HTS desire to ROM version 1.21.405.2 with the help of:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
I successfully downgraded to 1.21.405.2 but then i want to come back on INDIA_ASIA rom. For this i flashed rom:
RUU_Bravo_hTC_Asia_India_1.21.720.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127705_signed
This is it... it first locked on the HTC screen and then i pulled out the battery. When i tried to restart the device i was having nothing on my screen. Only a black screen is there now, when i switch it on i feel the vibration but nothing on screen.
Help me out of this i was just looking to get on my custom ROM but now i am without my desire.... :-(
most definetily you have an SLCD screen. search the forum how to unbrick slcd Desire.
Hi mariosraptor ,
Thanx for your reply.. but i again did the same procedure of downgrading to 2.1 and now my desire is running fine Can u please guide me that which will be the best official ROM that i can use on my desire so that i am not bricked again and can use it for warranty too... I purchased it from India and also when the updates were available for my new phone it was coming with HTC_ASIA_INDIA...
Current ROM:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Kernel version: 2.6.29-0cb9f166 [email protected] #1
build number: 1.21.405.2 CL174215 release-keys
software number: 1.21.405.2
browser version: Webkit 3.1
Thanx in advance..
There isn't one
Can u explain???
Explain what?? The RUU you're after doesn't exist so the only way you'll get it working is to:
1. Flash the older AMOLED-only RUU
2. Find the thread on here telling you what to do when you can't see the screen to flash the OTA update manually and hope it works
Otherwise you'll have to stay on the WWE ROM until an RUU for your region is released

[Q] How to root Vodafone DHD

I have DHD, bought it 12/2010 from Spain. It came unlocked. On boot I see vodafone logo. Few months after purchase I tried to root and flash custom rom but unsuccessfully.
Now I can't open People application, some process crashes in background, so I decided somehow to root ir and flash custom rom.
Phone's software information:
Android version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense version: 2.1
Baseband version
12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel version
2.6.35.10-gd2564fb
[email protected] #1
Build number
2.50.161.3 CL123205
Software number
2.50.161.3
Is it possible to downgrade and then root phone? Maybe someone can provide me instructions to follow. Thank you.
P.S. Instructions for UK Vodafone, is it the same for Spain's Vodafone? Software numbers does not match.
