so i was trying superfly 1.2 froyo rom and decided i wanted to go back to slidemeroot5r1, i used rom manager to resoter nandroid backup but when the phone rebooted all my apps were dead links on the phone i couldnt use market app or google maps or anything useful so i tried to do a fresh install of the rom and it fails while installing at "line 302 system" i think thats what it says
it did reboot to some rom but im not sure what it is and i still dont have market to download rom manager
im sure this is a bit confusing as i may have left out an important details but
any help would be appreciated
thanks
From clockwork recovery did you do a nandroid or did you reflash using "install zip from sdcard"
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
My guess, and this is totally out in left field, is that the superfly rom either doesn't use a2sd or something. If you previously used a ROM that did, then some versions of clockwork didn't correctly grab the SD-EXT partition (mine still errors) so I wonder if the actual location where the apps lived is no longer around...
Or I could be totally crazy...
Well I learned from flashing various roms that the easiest was to avoid issues is to wipe using the partitions menu in clockwork recovery
First...
Insure all partitions are mounted.
Second...
Format each partition, to exclude sdcard
However all of these will be formated if you select "factory wipe" and flash a new rom.
Factory wipe clears data and cache when you install a rom most should also format system, boot and sd-ext prior to installing anything.
Edit: insure your using the latest recovery from clockwork

hello
so the first time going from froyo to slidemeroot5r1 i used rom manager to initate my nandroid back up
that ruined all apps that i had on my phone,(including market and others) i then tried to install through clockwork and sd card zip which had the same results
i was able to reinstall a fresh install of slidemeroot5r1
after i had a fresh install i tried to reinstall a nandroid backup and had the same result as before
which really confuses me because i had used my nandroid backups before to restore my phone so i dunno what got corrupted
maybe because i updated to the new radio???
anyways im back to where i want to be for now
thanks

I have a rooted desire and never really tried restoring a backup and when I finally did I came across this error message:
No SD ext found. skipping backup of SD EXT
Generating MD5 sum
error while checking md5 sum!
chcking md5 sum....
MD5 mismatch!
My SD card has no partition whatsoever and I'm using fake flash by paul. My old phone was a N1 and I had no problem whatsoever doing this before. Is making a backup and restoring in the Desire an entirely different process?
Also how do you automatically backup apps in the Market? Meaning if I switch roms and just logged into my Google account the market would automatically "restore" my old apps. I used to be able to do this once in a while with my old N1 but I couldn't do it consistently. With my Desire I can't do it at all.
Thanks
It will give that error if you have no ext partition on your sd card. If you're not using apps 2 sd then you need not worry about it.
Other than that, try the latest clockwork recovery (2.0.1.4) and try a nandroid backup and restore.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Nandroid backup seems to work and I do get to see the file but when I try to restore it fails! Do I need to make an extension for it to work?
What about restoring apps from the marketplace via the internet? Like I said, I've done it a few times with my N1 wherein it automatically restores everything once I log in my Google account.
Thanks
Try creating an ext partition, convert ext2 to ext3. If it fails again, try backing up and restoring using the Nand using the latest Clockwork Recovery (2.0.0.7).
Your apps are linked to your Google account so when you sign in, they should be available for manual download.
You could also backup and restore your apps and data to your sd card using Titanium backup or MyBackup Pro (available from the Marketplace).
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Apps are indeed linked but how do they become restored automatically? Like I said, I've done it before on my N1 with "applications restored" showing up on the notification bar.
Where do I get the latest clockwork recovery? Tried looking at the forums and came up empty. I just followed Paul's guide for rooting. Still don't understand why I can't restore from a nandroid.
thanks
I am not aware of any method to restore apps automatically from the Marketplace, i do it manually unless using a backup and restore app.
Try reading the fake flash thread on MoDaCo as i remember people had reported the same issue you are experiencing. What version of fake flash are you currently using?
You will find the Clockwork Recovery as an option in the ROM Manager app, which you can download from the Marketplace.

The easiest method is to use unreEVOked (link).
The earlier version of unreEVOked installed a much earlier version of clockwork recovery, and I found that the nandroid backup didn't work properly - it would seem to backup (albeit too quickly), but you couldn't restore due to the MD5 problem. I think it didn't actually ever complete the backup and generate the MD5s.
Version 2 hopefully fixes that problem - certainly Nandroid backups take a lot longer!
Regards,
Dave
Thanks guys.
Will look into unrevoked and try to get it to work. I'll also try to update my fake flash. I have been using the very first version when it came out and never really updated it lol
Updated my fake flash and it worked! Thanks guys!
Didn't know that the clockwork recovery was embedded into fake flash. I thought it was just an enabler or something.
Thanks again!
If you use unrEVOked you don't need Fake Flash, or vice versa.

Dave
Have still yet to try unrevoked, what exactly does it do when I plug it into my desire? Does it make me run Amon Ra's N1 recovery image? No more screen with the red triangle?

No problem bud, glad it worked out for you
When you enter Recovery, it loads the recovery image straight away, so you get a permanent custom recovery image when you hold power + home.
Will try it out thanks again! Currently experimenting with the Rom manager application. It's pretty neat and u can update the recovery image instantly. I take it as something like an app inside ur phone? Always there in the background waiting to be used?
Hi, is anyone else having the problem that ClockWorkMod 2.5.0.1 just hangs after "Backing up system..." when trying to do a Nandroid backup?
Backup worked fine with 2.0.x.x (the one that came with Unrevoked3), but now I can't seem to complete a backup. Haven't even tried restoring yet...
Trying to run a ROM backup using ROM Manager and Nandriod Backup but both go to a screen with a red triangle

Any other way of backing up the ROM ?

Boot in to recovery manually and back up or clear the download cache in rom manager and reflash clockworkmod. If it still fails try to disable signature verification in recovery (under install zip form sd)
I can't get to recovery though thats the problem.
How do you reflash clockworkmod ? Through ROM Manager ?
yes, first option when you open rom manager
Cashe cleared, then I tried to run the update ROM option selected back up and clear data etc.
Went straight to a red triangle, will now try and see about changing this clockworkmod
Thanks.
Ran the re-flash clockwork option, first one on the list, still gets the red triangle of noness.
Hey there,
I have been running a froyo villainrom (1.6 i think) on my DHD and it was all running fine. I decided to update to the new CM7 so did a backup and wiped everything then flashed the new rom. It stayed on the loading screen for more than 20 mins. Eventually it turned off, each time i turned it on it did the same thing until finally it booted but I was greeted with force closes of the quick start, the keyboard, plus a whole lot of other stuff i dont remember. I decided to reflash CM7 and I ended up with the same problem, except this time it told me my SD card was faulty, I tried rebooting, removing and replacing teh SD card and kept getting the same error. Even my computer wont mount it
I got a spare card from the draw and put CM7 on that and the exact same problem occured, although this time when put into a PC i got the option of formatting it so I did. I then downloaded a CLeanDHD rom and flashed that after wiping everything once again. I still get force closes and cant get past inputting my google account details without the phone reseting again.
I cant restore to my backup as the phone does not recognise the card I made the backup on, nor can I access that card using my computer.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Im using clockwork mod 3.0.0.6
Thanks in advance

who is your provider? im not 100% on this on the desire hd, but on the standard desire, you would find your providers RUU rom then flash that to return you to stock then youd have too reroot. but like i said, imma desire user who just got a dhd, so ask some1 with alil more knowldge
Did you do a full wipe, before flashing CM7? If not run one now (i.e wipe /system / cache /data and /dalvik-cache from CWR) before re-flashing CM7. With multiple FC's that is normally the issue, going back to a non cm ROM, not entirely sure about CleanDroid, is problematic without carrying out a full wipe also and may even require using an older version of CWR, see CleanDroid thread for more info on that.
Thanks for the replies guys, yes I did a full wipe of cache/dalvik and factory before flashing.
If i were to try and install a stock rom and was greeted with force closes again, what would that mean about having to re-root the device? I dont want to really loose root access if im going to have to keep trying to fix it
Ok so ive decided to restore it to stock rom. Will this be possible if my phone cant connect to the PC to sync with HTC sync?

it's 90% about wiping problem. maybe you missed "format data"
make sure you have cwm 3.0.0.6 and do full wipe ( i personally recommended full wipe 1.3 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868720 , don't do it manually if this is your first time flashing custom rom. )
before that, make sure you have the working .zip rom. check md5 before transfer to sdcard. then do this step .
cwm -> install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> full wipe 1.3.zip -> choose zip from sdcard -> "your-rom-to-flash".zip -> reboot .

Thanks, I have made sure I didnt miss the full wipe. Ive re-tried wiping and flashing between CM7 and CleadDHD at least 20 times with the same problems. I think ill format my SD card and then copy the files across again. Ill also try the Full wipe 1.3 and see if that helps.
Im wondering if my friend makes a backup of his DHD through Clockwork 3.0.0.6 and then copies the backup file from his SD card to mine, will I be able to restore that backup?
Then from there I can factory reset again to wipe his saved settings?
Thanks for the replies so far guys
Is it possible my clockwork is faulty? I treid updating it through rom manager prior to flashing CM7 and it failed but i assumed it just reverted back to what I already had before. Is there a way I can reinstall clockwork through the current version?
nice idea .. take your friend's sd card that have nandroid backup, and then restore back the nandroid. i think it will work.

I will probably make a copy of it rather than use theirs, just in case it ruins their card like it did mine. Would I have to copy their EXT partition data too? If so I can easilly do that in ubuntu yes?
Hi had the official 2.3 RUU installed on my Desire, I have used Reveloutinary.io to S off my phone, i have now r0oted my phone.
I have created an ext 3 partition on the SD card and took a nandroid backup.
The info i really need is my HBOOT v is 6.93, i want to install the "[ROM][15/08][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.1.1" on my phone, the question i have is can i simply flash the ROM straight on the phone, or will i have to downgrade the ROM to an official 2.2 RUU first.....
Sorry for the noobness but this is my first post ever so please go easy on me.
If you successfully s-off'd you dont need to downgrade anything, just copy the ROM to the SD Card and for this particular ROM make sure your ext partition is atleast 1GB.
Then Full Wipe/Factory rest + Cache wipe + Dalvik Cache Wipe in recovery.
Now flash the .zip file, after turning off signature verification (should be under "install from sdcard")
Also make sure you download right version of the ROM.
Stock A2SD version if you didnt changed HBOOT, and CM7 version if you changed your HBOOT to CM7.
Also if this is your first ROM, then take a look if you have any WIFI/GSM problems after you booted up, if so it means you might need to update your radio to 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 (search forum for it, there are guides how to flash it too), if you dont have any issues then just ignore it.
Thank you so much for your help, will try it tomorrow and see how i get on.
I jumped the gun and tried it, i took an online backup using My backup pro and whe i have come to restore all of my apps and settings it has restored nothing.
Is there anything i have missed off this?
Sorry no idea i have no experience with My backup pro.. using Titanium Backup.
I'm switching to a rezound on my primary line, and putting the inc1 slcd
on my second line. Inc1 is currently S-Off, CWM recovery 5.0.2.0,
GB 2.3.4. I'd like to do a reset to clear out my data so the new user
will start fresh. What do I need to do to end up with a 'clean'
s-off, CWM 5.0.2.0 and updated GB 2.3.4?
If there is a mostly stock rom that is debloated that would be preferable.
I have the old tools to do a full return to stock (zip for s-on, and zip for stock
2.2 rom).
I'd like to have a cleaned up, but still rooted GB 2.3.4 install w/ cwm 5.0.2.0
when finished. What do I do to get there?
I did a full backup with Titanium Backup to save the APKs and their data.
I also did a people app backup to a vcf file for the phone book data since the
new user is family and will need the same contacts to start with.
What rom is suggested and is there a pointer to its thread?
do I just put it in the sdcard and do a factory reset, erase system & cache,
and install with cwm (install zip from sdcard)?
Thanks

I believe there is at least one "return to stock" thread in the DInc forum, but I'll try to help. If you have saved what you want to keep from the "People" widget using Titanium Backup, that may work out ok for you. After the GB OTA came out, I did a similar thing with bookmarks (browser) and it did not work out so well restoring Froyo data to a GB ROM.
I am not 100% clear on whether or not you want to leave the phone rooted with GB, or stock with Froyo.
Either way, you should use CWM (or your preferred recovery) to to a factory reset, then wipe boot and system. I think there is a rooted GB RUU out there, so flash that in the bootloader after you've wiped the phone, and I think you'll be set. Probably a good idea to hand the phone over with a blank formatted microSD as well.
Hope this helps.

yes: rooted, s-off, cwm 5.0.2.0, GB 2.3.4
I found a rooted GB rom (based on the later OTA).
I figured full wipe (boot, system, data, data/data, cache)
then apply rom. Probably get UOT battery mod too.
Do I need to worry about the device being a SLCD model?
My user doesn't want a whole lot, so I'm hoping the /data/data
full issue won't be a problem.
I'm guessing, I could just wipe /data, /data/data and /cache
to use the existing GB that on there?
I built a vcf of the phone book data I need for my new phone
and one for the dInc1 also. I figured I could import that as a starter
phone book for the user, (someone on my family plan).
The Rezound comes with a 16gb card. I figured on using that in dInc1
since I built my 32gb card for the Rezound.
I love to see the Rezound get s-off, I want to get rid of the dumb
location recticle and have nandroid backups.

1. Boot into Recovery and do a "Full Wipe"
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
- Under "Advanced," Wipe Dalvik-Cache
- Under "Mounts and Storage," Format System.
2. Flash Rom and Fixes
- Flash Rom under "Install zip from SD Card" then "Choose Zip from SDcard"
- Flash Both Fixes as well
- Also Under "Advanced," Select Fix Permissions
3. Select Reboot System Now
- Your done
Also, Just incase you do not have the latest Official Verizon Incredible Gingerbread I Would recommend you flash it as well.

Looks like you're messing up the terms a bit...: "Revolutionary" doesn't really have to do something with your "Recovery" (Clockworkmod). Same goes for "upgrading to revolutionary" - I have no clue what you tried to do there
Let's try to get some useful information:
- If you've downgraded your recovery I assume your phone is rooted and has S-OFF and worked well before?
- for what reason did you downgrade? to flash a radio?
- if yes: did that work well?
I have suggestions what you could do but it would be better if you'd provide above information first

Clockwork mod and revolutionary are two different things.
Try flashing another CWM version through fastboot or pc49img.zip method. You can find the links in wildfire index thread in development section.

I see. I already thought that it doesn't have to do with recovery - just wanted to make sure
I suggest you to try reflashing the ROM first - but better make sure that you avoid leftovers of your current "system":
- put the ROM and gapps (20110828) into root of your sd card
- boot into recovery
- format "system" (in "mounts and storage")
- wipe "cache"
- flash CM7
- flash gapps 20110828
- reboot
try a nandroid backup again afterwards
if this doesn't help either my suggestion would be to do a complete wipe:
- put the ROM and gapps (20110828) into root of your sd card
- boot into recovery
- wipe all / factory reset
- (I usually do an additional format "system", "data" as well - just to make sure)
- wipe "cache"
- wipe "dalvik-cache"
- flash CM7
- flash gapps 20110828
- reboot
see, if everything went ok then reboot in recovery and do a partial restore of your data (backup & restore/advanced)
reboot again (see if everything works) and reboot into recovery again to try your nandroid backup
There's another thing coming to my mind: do you have enough space left on your sdcard? I never had that problem so I'm not sure if CWM spits out an error about that...
Just for the info, Cwm doesnt give any error if low on space. It just keeps going on with backup.

So what you meant was .... you downgraded from revolutionarys cwm version to 2.5.0.7 ? Did you use revolutionary to do this or other method?
You couldn't backup with 2.5.0.7 cwm so upgraded back to revolutionarys version with same backup issues afterwards ?
You upgraded cwm to 5.0.2.0 and your still not able to backup ?
Can you restore a nandroid ?
Do you have custom mtd set up ?
Ive not come across the won't back up issue but have had the same issue during restores after flashing a new cwm ?
Some cwm restores are not compatible with some other cwm versions but your problem is backing up so this can't be the case lol.
Have you got the Rom up and running before trying to back it up,and your NOT wiping anything prior to attempting the back up ?
1st I would try wipe dalvik cache from advanced and format cache from mounts and storage then try a backup.
If that fails........ (your gonna lose your current Rom setup with the following but 1 of these methods should get your cwm functioning again.)
Try restoring an old backup then if that is successful try a backup again as this could just kickstart your cwm backup into gear.
Failing that.........,
then I think your gonna have to do a full wipe and reinstall Rom.
Forum fishing.... Who's biting!
Agreed. This is very strange. Have you flashed anything else we should know about that has anything to do with the system partition? Tweaks ect?

just to make sure: have you flashed the bravoboot file after the nandroid backup?
If you did, well, a full wipe might be a good idea anyway - but: have you tried my initial suggestion - to format just system? if this is the point where the nandroid backup fails this could be enough to solve your problem...
- put the ROM and gapps (20110828) into root of your sd card
- boot into recovery
- format "system" (in "mounts and storage")
- wipe "cache"
- flash CM7
- flash gapps 20110828
- flash the bravoboot file
- reboot
If everything works again you could try to do a partial restore of "data" (in CWM / Backup and Restore / Advanced Restore)
But don't forget to flash the bravoboot file after that one again - and better don't try to restore system again - just data (and sd-ext, .android-secure whatever you like)
Maybe you can try to do backup in 3.x.x.x version of cwm? I had similar problem to yours (I was on 2.5.x.x v CWM) and after it everything worked
I currently have the same problem (CWM5028) and have not solved it yet.
Interesting to note is that the time noted in the title for the stalling backup is 3 hours off. A clue to the cause?

Got it solved... I also use MTD partitioning (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233340) and probably have forgotten to flash a required zip after restoring a backup. According to the instructions this should have left me with a white screen. That didn't happen, but it left me unable backing up my system for a while. After repartitioning as suggested by eventcom I was able to make backups again.
