You guys can obviously reply with your favorite feature(s) of 2.2, but are there any more subtle changes than overall performance boost you guys noticed?
For me, I like how the 3G looks like now. It's mundane and stupid, but I like how it's more curved rather than blocky. I don't have 4G in my area so I'm curious if the 4G looks similar to the new 3G or if it retains the old look.
I appreciate the little touches of color HTC added to some of their icons I'm still poking around but that jumped out at me right off the bat.

Oh yeah, I thought something looked off when I had to do the unlock pattern for the first time.
Is it just me or did the notification bar change a little? I use handcent for messaging, and usually when I got two messages in a row the notification bar just had the handcent image at the top. Now it shows 2, 3 or however many unread messages I have.
Very nice. I'm loving my phone even more.
Yeah, I dig the new 3G logo - it takes it in line with how the Incredible looks. I also like the "default" picture for those who don't have a photo for Caller ID. The 3D glossy Android looks great. Also, having Facebook statuses and pending Birthdays when someone calls on the call screen is awesome too.

Oh, and I noticed (but just now confirmed it) the AM/PM symbol is slightly smaller than it was before; prior to the update, the AM/PM would be the same font size as the time, but now it's like 1-2 pts smaller.
I like that sound and display are seperated in the settings menu now.
I like my benchmarks A LOT
I like the flashlight, and I like that I can "Set Install Location"
I like that the settings>applications>manage_applications menu opens so fast now
I like the new market, and how they are using tabs in some system menu's (like the applications menu)

YES this was a HUGE, GARGANTUAN, MONOLITHIC improvement!!!!
Im on 4G now and its a squared off 4G with 3 possible bars for service, not sure what the old one looked like but it looks the same, but the new texting layout is somewhat nice, i liked the older style layout but i like how it tells you how many unread on in the top corner and how many texts you have going with each person, now it looks like a high score table to see who i can text the most in a month... haha
Theres one of these small changes I absolutely hate. Remember that cool looking 3Dish bag icon in the market (top left). It now looks the same as the app icon. Which is crappay!

Do you use Handcent? I thought the default messaging program didn't have a visible count on sending messages. Is this a new feature of the default messaging app or are you using Handcent? The Handcent notification bar icon has the little green circle with white font for number of unread messages.
Sounds like the 4G bar looks the same - it was not as squared off as the 3G symbol - I think only because the 4 seemed wider than the 3.
I don't notice much of a difference. Sence is still the lethargic turd it always was.

Oh yeah I forgot to add that I love how the security pattern has a timer on it like the Droid X had when it launched (I think I read that at least) - you can set it to come on after a certain number of minutes rather than every time the screen is shut off!
HUGE plus in my book. I want the security there in case someone steals my phone, but not make me swipe it every single time while I text with someone over the course of 10 minutes.

It's not in settings, its an app in the app drawer. It's called "SetInstallLocation"
the multi touch keyboard is awesome. even though I'm using the cm6 one
sent from my Satan fone
One thing I noticed is the vibrate feedback from hitting the buttons -- it seems shorter and softer.
I know I already said this but DAMN I love how the security pattern doesn't require you to enter it now after EVERY single time you turn the screen off.
Even Gmail looks a little different. A lot of the physical look of apps seem to be more polished looking too.

Hey ya'll.
I've been working on a new idea for the sliding panels layout. It is fully functional so far, I am currently working on the exe for everyone, so that you may keep your current layout order and all icons, then have them swapped to the new panel layout.
Below are some pics of what it looks like. For all intensive purposes, what I have done is position the layout of the screen so that the panels still move left to right, but scrolling between panels is done also left to right using the icons at the bottom of the homescreen. You still push up and down to scroll between the panels, but it appears as though it's moving left to right.
I am still going to spice up the resolution of the pngs for the different icons, but here it is so far. In a few days, I will have a cab posted for everyone to download. This is a solo project for me, so it will take a little longer since there is no one but me working on this.
Check out post #2 for additional pics.
Let me know what you think!!
Here are some more photos
Here's the rest of the shots I have so far.
the pictures look great.
im just not sure what you mean by the up/down and left/right etc. stuff.
could you explain?
but besides thatttt... good job =]
easy
Simple, Watson.
LOL, what I meant was, you scroll through the panels just as before, there's no difference in the motions.
With this new layout though, instead of your condensed icons running from top to bottom, I have put them at the bottom of the screen in a bar/slider.
Now you have the entire homescreen to display your active panels, and have an even COOLER row of condensed icons, that scroll as you move from panel to panel. That's it.

It looks like the launcher/panel/bar/whatever in MacOS X. "Mousing over" the icons with the up/down keys shows the panel for that icon. Right and left then work just like they do now. Right?
Yep
Right-O me matey. By the way, wassup beartard, we haven't talked in forever. How's it going? I'll get with you on the im, later.
Hope you like this. We can customize this to make it work anyway you want. This has a bar like you call MacOS X, I'd like to refer to it as more of an "Object Desktop" kinda thing. I will have some more theme ideas for this as well with some new dll's for the bronzeres.dll. You can already see some of that from the screenshots I have.

Hi i love the idea and am going to try it out.
suggestion thought i think it might look cleaner if the panel on top the active one i mean had some sort of border or something to case it in. I bet that intails alot of work but i thought that might look nice.
maybe a light round cornered rectangle of equal proportions for all panels transparent just a faint white? LOL like the original slideing panels but youre setup lol
Looks really sweet so far man, will it include your weather app as well? Great work looks like it will be a much needed change to sliding panels!
It does look great, good job
Good job, it looks great. So when will this be available to use for download?
I am about ready
I have this setup for layouts already. I am trying to figure out how the hell to customize this for everyone, I am having luck, but it's coming along slowly.
I am glad you all like this so far. I am going to make this work with my weather app, plus as far the weather app is concerned I am gonna have to make it have this app be compatible, so there is a lot to do. I wanted to let you all know that the way this works will cause all of your custom panels to be located over a general "small" icon on the bottom row.
What I mean by that is, this uses your iconpaths in your registry, so that you don't have to use my custom made icons. You can keep your own. But since all of the custom panels have the same GUID value in the registry, it will put your icons for your custom panels all over the bottom row and not look pretty, so in order to fix this, I have to put all of your custom icons in one area on the bottom row of icons. If you look at the screenshots, you can see what I mean. All of your active icons will display over the generic hard drive icon, which represents your custom panels. Other than this one thing, it works flawlessly. Unless I here some serious flack about that one thing I just mentioned, I should have this out in a day or so.

Oh right on, well I will be waiting for this. Thanks again for putting something like this together.
Here's some more shots
I have toyed around with having a background for the icons at the bottom.
I am gonna make several different layouts with different pics, but this structure of the homescreen will stay the same regardless. It will always be a left to right sliding look.
Also, I have gotten integrated with my weather app.
Also, I have made some new xml's for this, you can choose from the iconbar uptop, which will have new icons, you can also have one with no iconbar, or one with the topbarnotes plugin on top. All of these will come with a version with a background for the iconbar or topbarnotes and a version of each with no background.
I will post more screenshots later. Got the family thing to do for now, enjoy.

Is there an HTC widget available for brightness? I am usually on auto, but at times I need to change it. It is a lot of swipes to do so in the interface.
I know there are some in market, but all the ones I see dont work with the auto setting.
the Power widget will let you adjust brightness from auto>full>minimum.
Weather & Toggle Widgets has an awesome brightness widget.
SwitchPro has a nice configurable widget bar, I like it better than Powerstrip.
It does, cost .99 where Powerstrip is free, but you can always refund if you end up not liking it.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/alei.switchpro
edit: Powerstrip doesn't work with auto brightness anyway, SwitchPro does.
i use brigtness level widget. it's got a slider and predefined quick settings.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Will try them out.

The images were the easy part. Getting them to show up on the home screen correctly has been a pain in the *ss. I've been tweaking the XML of a widget I got in the market but haven't yet perfected it. Schedule is prettyl light today so I am hoping to finish it tonight.

Perfect look. What would the functionality be? Would the switch control auto-brightness?
How would one access the sliding scale?
I'm playing around with a widget that has five settings. Tapping the widget cycles through the different settings.
Ideally I'd like to have one with the same functionality of the Dazzle widget which has 4 settings including Auto as well as a sliding scale. If you know of a free brightness widget other than Dazzle with that functionality I'll give it a try. The Dazzle one looks to be a bit more difficult to edit.
Just to update you. I am making progress but not finished. I'm editing a widget with a sliding scale and that displays the current setting.
I've got the Widget to display at the right size but I am having trouble figuring out how to get a background to the label. It shouldn't be too hard to reposition the value setting so that it is centered in the widget at which point I'll redesign it to be cleaner. But, need to figure out the shadow first...

Looks great. Can't wait to see the final product!

Well, if you put it that way
I got the spacing figured out for the text label (it was skewing to the left before). And, I changed the brightness icon from blue to gray because I thought there was too much blue if the value indicator is going to stay.
That said, there are still two issues I've yet to figure out:
1. I've yet to add the background behind the text label. This is not a big deal with dark wallpaper, as you can see in the pic. But, with lighter wallpaper it looks like sh*t (see earlier screenshot).
2. Because this is merely an edited Market App there is a good chance the Marketplace will still prompt for an update if there is one. I need to figure out how to remove whatever signature is there to prevent that.
Needless to say, I'm still working on it... But, since it is currently usable with a dark wallpaper, I've added a link so you can download and use it while I figure the rest out.
link removed (updated versions in later posts)
Will install now, and let you know what I think in the morning.
Thanks so much for the effort!
Also, with appbrain, it is easy to tell it "ignore market updates"
When an update is found, click on the X and it is an option.
Very quick feedback-
If auto is set in the HTC settings, it overrides the slider in about half a second.
If I turn off auto in HTC settings, then slider works as expected.
Is there a way to make this compatible with "auto"?
I use auto most of the time, except in the dark, when auto is still too bright.
Genius. Thanks for sharing. Works great!
PS A little blue in the center wouldn't be bad. Would go along with the other HTC Settings widgets better.
Either way though, this is a great little tool.
yeah I think this is awesome, cant wait to see how it goes with the little fixes you wanted.
Great job!

It's the official ROM off the HTC website. I've seen so many screens of the HTC Tilt 2 with the colors I want, I'm guessing that they may have been cooked ROMs. The Co0kie's Home Tab is the editor that allows for tons of customization of the home screen and options, it's great. Thanks for the reply and if you find out anything on how to change the colors, please let me know.
I Found It!!!

You can change the home tabs and a lot of the other Icons!
I used these when I had TouchFlo3D on the original ROM, to add the sense, colored slider: Touch pro ones are here: http://tp2.bfgreenberg.com/tf3d.htm
The ones for us on the new Rom is the first link, for sense ui stuff.

Couldn't get this Transparent Slider to Work...haven't tried the clock or curtains...
Noticed you don't have a Task Manager in your Task Bar at the Top Too.
This one is Great! Same thing we had in the Original Rom
Now we just need something to change the icons in Task Bar...add something with color!
This one will let us design our own slider with our icons of our choosing and set all the wallpapers to be the same...haven't tried this guy yet...but this looks better, just a little more work than just the transparent slider.

Thank You! I added this, happy to get some more quick link tabs!
I added the Icon Package and the Glass slider.
When I tried the Transparencies for the Quick Links...I tried versions C, BUT it caused the images for "Quick Link Contacts" to Disappear ... so i took it off, I haven't tried version A or B yet.
There are some glitches when uninstalling the Glass slider, since it is slightly to the right, you stalk slider becomes slightly to the right when you uninstall the Glass one.
Screen Shots show the Icon package...gives color to everything. Plus, in the 6th picture you can see what I mean by the slider being slightly to the right after uninstalling the Glass slider....a little annoying...will probably put the glass one back, I was just playing with different things, untill i have time to try HDWalls app...which looks a little more complicated.
Ok, Added the Transparent Slider Back in, and the App to remove the Blue background behind the clock.
First Pick is w/the Blue back ground and the others without it.
Slider is slightly too the right in All People and some of the other things, but not bad enough to cause any real issues.
I Installed the Transparent Quick Icons Version B, and it did the same exact thing as Version C, but keeps the icon Images for Contacts in Quick links, so issue solved.
Here are some shots to give you an idea.
Looks Great!
Wow, those look really good, Strange Shadow. I think I'm at the point where I've kinda got things where I want them, but now I must have that taskbar (love the colors and icons). Which taskbar was it? I tried one of the ones you posted, but I found several icons missing when I installed it, so I uninstalled it. I'll take some pics later today of what I've got now. I think the transparent or glass sliders did exactly what I wanted which was to get rid of the blue. Thanks again!

So, here's what I've got so far. Was having some issues with the tabs on the slider having a blue shadow/background. But when I go into the contacts, it seems to disappear. Anyhow, I like your taskbar and icon packs, gotta give them a try.

I'm using tsowentaskbar6v3.1(lite).cab for the task bar (cab added to this post)
Haven't had any problems with it.
I went with the Version C for the Quick links, it gets rid of the shading around tabs and names, the photo issue I had earlier is gone now...I think I originally put them on in the wrong order, the slider is suppose to go last.
I noticed the same thing, with the blue patch after a soft reset, but I just go to contacts then all contact, then back to home screen and it goes away.
Now that I look, I am missing the Text Message Icon in this one, when I get a message, the original white message box appears...hmm....that's the only one I have noticed so fare...I might try a few more within the next couple of days.
I also noticed that the reception bars are not showing, when nothing is going on, I just have the earth with one tiny bar, but when making a phone call, they appear with the phone icon, I am going to try v6.2.1 and see if it changes anything
BTW, I have been installing these on my strage card, to save device space, not sure if this is the reason for any of this, I will try on the device too, some time later
Gonna give that taskbar a try and let you know how it works for me. I'm so much of a noob that if I have to change anything in the registry or something along those lines, I'm done with it. If it's not a cab file that self-installs, I won't risk screwing something up. I'd like to sit down and learn hands-on, but don't know anyone in my area. Thanks again.

Yeah, I'm the same way, if it's not an easy Cab install/uninstall I'm usually not too interested. I prefer the easy cab install to make sure nothing gets messed up.
I would do more if someone could show me a step by step, and show that it worked fine with their 'personal" phone without ruining anything.
Good luck, I tried 6v.2.1...it has the same issue, keeps the old wm text message, and doesn't show the signal strength...I'll try installing them on the internal memory...see if that makes any difference...which I doubt will...
Further down his page there is one for Wm6.5... I tried it, and was SOOOOOo excited when I found that the Signal Strength option Finally Worked!
But...the Speaker indicating sound/vibrate/silent is completely gone...
DUDE! I FOUND ONE! w/the signal actually working!!! lol
So fare the only thing I noticed is that the Text Message Icon is still the old white Bubble, but the Signal is working and the battery looks great!
Here it is: CAB
Just found another annoyance, the Volume Controls are changed a bit now, when you press the up/down side volume hard buttons, the image is slightly different, the bars indicating the Volume are now 3/4 the length of the original, with the first 1/4 no longer existing
Task manager and red X over lap sometimes too...but not a huge deal.
Screen Shots...nvm in my room, I can barely get two bars lol
I stumbled across these and thought I would share. Feel free to add anything you might have found:
If you turn off auto-brightness, you can brighten the screen with a swipe of the finger. Just press the notifications area and move your finger left or right.
On both the homescreen and the apps menu you will see a row of dots indicating which page you are on. Hold the dot and scroll left or right. The pages will quickly scroll until you see the page you want.
You can focus your camera on a specific thing by touching that area on your screen.
In the camera app you can use the volume buttons to zoom in and out. OR you can pinch to zoom in and out.
Mute the Battery Notification (using Tasker) Directions are here.
Swipe left on contact name from the contact list and you'll automatically be able to send a text.
Swipe right on a contact name from the contact list and you'll automatically be able to call them.
Press your home button and lock screen button (power button) at the same time to save a screenshot.
You can scroll much faster on some apps such as YouTube, Astro File Manager and Market by using 3 fingers and if you scroll with 2 fingers you get precise scrolling (no scroll momentum).
Hold down the home button to access recent programs and the task manager.
Good stuff. Thanks!
Very useful tips, thanks!
But aren't these two basically the same thing?

I'll still never understand the logic of having a WHITE background in a messaging app... Talk about a battery killer!
That's one thing I'm going to miss about the Moment. Black background in the STOCK app, rather than having to install a 3rd party app.

That's one thing I'm going to miss about the Moment. Black background in the STOCK app, rather than having to install a 3rd party app.
All though, if I'm forced to, Go SMS is my preference.

With Handcent you can pick either a dark or light theme. Default is light. There's even other skins you can apply.
The brightness adjust trick doesnt work for me.

Did you turn off auto brightness in Settings/display/brightness?
....
Another cool one:
Testing Mode: *#0*# in the dialer enters the LCD test mode, useful if you are hunting for dead pixels or a few other things.
....
you posted twice about the screenshot tip, just pointing it out....

Thanks for the tip! It worked but now I have a followup question. Is there anyway to use the Handcent Icon widget in my dock? One of the reasons I love Handcent is the widget that shows how many unread messages I have.
FYI, other reasons I like Handcent: the lockscreen popup, it allows me to use my own sounds/mp3s as ringtones and alarms, Emoji pack allows me to send and receive emoji icons with my iPhone friends
U can hold 2 points on the screen like with ur thumbs for example. Then tilt ur phone forward or back to zoom. Just like that 10.1 tablet

Can you turn off the silly "bubble" chat with Handcent yet? Last time I tried it (a year ago) I couldn't stand the comic book look.
I'll probably use Go SMS until a dev over at SDX reverse releases a black version of the stock SMS.apk.
I'm also hoping the old version of GMail works so I can copy it over and use it with LauncherPro with working mail counts.
U dont have to have to have the bubble look. Handcent gives us different options. Android style is included if u r curious

I did google a little bit but most things are about calendar notifications, I'm lookin more for an actual calendar I can put in my notifications bar.
I just switched from iPhone so I'm actually lookin for something like this. modmyi.com/images/joshua/calendarfornc.jpg
I think you'd be better off finding a calendar widget to your liking. I'm not aware of any notification panels that have widgets embedded in them.

I agree with Spycedtx. Use a widget instead. If you want to reach the calendar widget from any screen you could add it to a SwipePad panel that has a widget launcher. It works very well for me with a quick settings widget and a note widget.
Thanks guys
Cool the swipe pad will work and has more uses too. Maybe it's cause I was an iphone guy but I'm not a fan of widgets yet. Maybe in time

The I phone has you stuck in the past with old out dated features lol, your not used to making things easy and the way you want like an android.
I just don't like a lot of garbage on my home screen, looks too cluttered... but as I said maybe in time. Any how noob question, how do I mark my post solved?

I also like empty screens. But the bonus is you have several. My main has an analog clock just to look pretty. One page over I have a calendar widget. Quick swipe and back if I need to see it.

There's a few apps that do this, one is "date in tray pro" that I use.
