Hi all,
Does anyone know a way to assign the buttons below the screen to a function, while the screen is off? The volume button is also useable, even when the screen is turned off. I would like to assign previous track and next track to some buttons, so I don't have to turn anything on to skip a track.
I know I can use the music control which is in the headset that is shipped with the phone, but I like to find out the options here.
Thanks for your input.
Hi all,
I think it is a good idea!
On my old Sony-E. you could change titles by keeping vol.-up pressed for 2 sec.
I haven't read about something similar on Android yet.
I am sorry if I missed this topic.
Thx!
Re:
Keeping the volume button up/down pressed changes tracks too in the custom roms that I've tried (OpenDesire, Cyanogenmod). Not sure if it's a froyo feature or a custom implementation though since I've never had the original froyo on my phone.
[EDIT]
Looks like a custom addition. Just saw the line "Common: Long press volume buttons to skip songs - Jon Boekenoogen" in the cyanogenmod changelog.

Hi, is there any ways to change the track by holding or tapping the volume buttons(instead of turning on the phone and everything)?
I also use headphones w/ controls but everytime I press the button, it either pauses or plays the music and if I double press, it redials. Is there a way to fix that too?
Thanks in advance.

This will be implemented in CyanogenMod 6 I believe. With the screen off, you can hold the volume key down and it will skip forward or backward depending on which key you are pressing.
Thanks for the reply!
Any way to make this do something outside of volume?
I never change mine (outside of vibrate mode which I use a widget for anyway) and figured I'd see if I could get anything useful out of it.
Does you used rocker for navigation and music volumed?
I don't know how I would use it for navigation, but I don't really ever need to change my music volume, and if I did I use audiomanager.
I'm interested in ether keeping the buttons from accidentally changing my settings, or finding a new use for it.
it would be sweet if you could use it as the shutter button in the camera app
bumping this to see if anyone has any ideas. I'm sick of accidentally hitting the vol rocker and changing my ringer volume.
android is great. it really is , its the best thing to ever hit cell phones. however theres one feature i miss that i havent been able to find. im sure you all remember the old school flip phones and what not. the volume buttons on the side controlled all the volume at once. you turned it up and ALL of your phone volume was up, you turned it down and likewise. now with android you have , call volume , ringer volume, system volume, media volume etc. i hate having to go into my options and turn 5 or 6 different bars of volume control up and down. so my question is , is there an app or a mod (without rooting) that i could get that would make the volume buttons control all the volume at once like the old school phones? i could also live with a widget that would do this as well i suppose.
Audiomanager.
Hi there, I have been running FrostyJB ROM for quite some time and I'm liking it. In the most latest release, dj added the function to use volume rockers to skip tracks. The feature is nice but it has been bothering me as it keeps changing the profile mode. For example, if my phone is on silent and I use the skip track feature while screen is locked, the phone will switch to sound mode. Is there a way to overcome this changing phone profiles with the skip track feature or a way to remove this feature?
Thanks for your help!
I have CM11 installed and I can't seem to use the volume rocker while i'm in the lockscreen. Is there a solution? Am I missing something in the settings app?

Do you mean media volume or ringer volume? Last time I checked, ringer volume cannot be changed straight from the lockscreen aside from the power menu's options (silent, vibrate, ring).
Are you trying to navigate between songs perhaps ? Like @tonytien said, we need to know what purpose you were trying to use this multipurpose button pair.
Nahh, I'm just trying to perhaps change the volume of my ringtone while using the volume rockers, I know I could do that when I was with stock rom and when I was on 10.2. Maybe it's a bug or am I missing something inside the settings.
I haven't used 10.2 enough to know since I've only used 11 with most of my time in the CM world. If ringer volume on lockscreen was ever a feature, it might have been removed. You could check the Buttons section in your settings, I think.
