Issue with updating to Froyo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I forced my phone to check for an update and it found it and downloaded it. When it reboots to install, I get the following:
Build : RA-eva-v1.7.0.1
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (624 files)
E: Verification failed
Installation aborted.
Any ideas what's going on here?

It takes a little adb knowhow...not much...what root method did you use? What rom are you running?

I rooted using simple root steps I did not flash a rom I just did the 4 steps and that's all... I get this same error now when trying to get froyo
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I think the problem is probably related to the unroot method i linked to above. Check your HBOOT version by powering off, and then holding VOL down and power until you're in bootloader mode, and see what version of HBOOT you have. If you have .79, you need to do the unroot method first to get down to .76. Then, from there, I think the OTA update MIGHT work, but you may still have to run an RUU. Not sure about that part..let us know if you get to .76 HBOOT and can do the OTA successfully, but that's where I'd start.

I have .76.2000xxx
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Try using clockwork recovery...version 2.0.2.0 is good with non verification

bump this up,having the same problem... used simpleroot and 1.47 stock rooted rom, and I can't get unrooted... need to return this phone to sprint.

Anyone know how to fix this? I get the same error when trying to do the OTA 2.2.

[Q] OTA fails with a red triangle

I have an unbranded T-Mobile Desire HD running 1.32 it has full root with S=off, CID is standard tmobile and the standard recovery – the rom is intact no apps have been removed.
I have downloaded the OTA 102 mb it verifies ok but on boot fails about 10% into the update. I guess it is verifying something before proceeding with the update. It fails with a red triangle centre screen with a red exclamation mark
Does anyone know why the update stops with a red warning triangle and I have to take the battery out to restart the phone.
Hi
I have the same problem but my DHD was never branded ,never rooted, i already did a factory reset no app was removed.
I also get the red triangle after that if push POWER + VOLUME UP i get Android system recovery screen

Try deleting the OTA file from your sdcard and downloading it again, maybe it just didnt download properly, so some files are damaged.
@starfish. The ota won't work if your rooted. You have two options 1) ruu back to stock *no root* then apply the update but will be rootless 2) flash a rooted stock gingerbread Rom(my recommendation)
@night. The download my be corrupted. Try deleting it and download and apply the ota

Just to save everyone some time - nope, re-downloading won't work. If you've rooted you're phone, HTC has taken a rather cavalier attitude towards installing this update.
Still taking a bash at it, but for now the only dependable methods of getting this to work is either downloading and flashing a stock RUU, or downloading and flashing a ROM that's already got the 2.3 update installed.
Please note that, in either of these scenarios, you won't have root access anymore. So far, trying to root via Visionary on 2.3 hasn't been successful - fails on temproot. Haven't tried manually rooting it yet.
Also as noted on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084381
Be careful when reverting to factory default on 2.3 - there seems to be an option for clearing the SD Card as well.
I do have a couple of frozen apps - I'll unfreeze them and try again
but from what is said it seems that if I:
1 un-root 1.32 (using visionary) and leave s=off
2 then the update should install.
3 I can them use ginger-break to get root again and then perm root?

My error is the same as your yet I am root s-off
It seems that status 7 failures maybe a version mix issue - old nexus thread
Same as before. After you go through the steps and reboot, you will be at 2.3.2. Here is where things get interesting. It seems that you need another update. Its for people who get the “Status 7″ error.
This is mostly due to a firmware (those who have: GRH78C or GRH78). Here you will need to apply the LAST UPDATE, the same way you applied update1 and update2:
http://blog.vpetkov.net/2011/03/11/google-nexus-s-update-manually-to-2-3-1-2-3-2-and-2-3-3/
So I don't think this oto is gonna work

Starfish you can try this rom. Its the stock gingerbread update rooted.

OK after some reading and with starfish's link, I think night falls under the mixed version issues some people had on the nexus. Some people were not able to jump directly to the newest update (2.3 to 2.3.4). They had to update in steps. From your post you are on build 1.32. I think you need to jump up to the 1.7x/1.8x/1.9x ota before going up to gingerbread.
But thanks to andyharney you can ruu up gingerbread.
Here's is his link to the gingerbread ruu. Just rename it and.flash through hboot. This way though will erase everything so make.sure to back up stuff

There is no need to flash the RUU if you're on stock firmware and rooted (running clockworkmod that is). With little modifications to the update zip it can be flashed without problems and root will pertain. I've done it myself 10 days ago. I'll write up the guide for you in an hour or so.

Thanks...... are these prerooted?
The RUU has to be run from a windows machine. Renaming it will not work.
I do however have the OTA file on my site now. You can find that HERE.
Not sure if you have to rename it to update.zip or leave it as it is, but you flash it in bootloader/recovery.
Hi Starfish I had the same problem had to unroot and get S-OFF to get the 2.3 update via OTA. Now obviously have 2.3 Gingerbread but with unrooted and S-ON.
Your best bet is to flash with 2.3 RUU as you have S-OFF and then use Ginger break to root so then you will have 2.3 that's S-OFF and rooted still.

The first link is prerooted gingerbread that you can flash through cwr

Hi all,
I am having the same problem, get red triangle everytime I try to update my DHD.
My phone is rooted using Visionary, but I don't follow what has been said (complicated).
Is there a guide of what has been written in this thread?

[Q] HTC ONE X 1.29.401.11 Update Fail

I recently tried to fix the "apparent" battery issue on my HTC ONE X by unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone, then copying the app file to the correct location. Everything fine.
When the next OTA came along, 1.29.401.7, the OTA install didn't work, but I could do it with ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.2.4
Now I am trying to install the 1.29.401.11 update, using clockworkMod Recovery again, and I get the error message:
Finding Update Package...
Opening Update Package...
Verifying Update Package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Any suggestions? Am I missing something? Should I try and look for an original 1.29.401.11 ROM ?
There are lots of things you can do to resolve this but basically you need the stock recovery image (recovery.img) for the ROM/RUU version you are wanting to update from.
E.g. If you are on 1.28.xx and you want to upgrade to 1.29.xx then it is best to flash back the recovery.img from 1.28.xx.
They are all posted around and about here. Just open the zip using 7Zip and grag the recovery.img out and flash it in fastboot. Then your OTA update will succeed. You don't need to relock the device to update.

Spot on. Just to add, the power management apk location and permissions thing turned out to be erroneous, HTC removed the file completely in the end, so don't bother doing it again.
I used to get that on my nexus, it was caused by trying to flash the wrong operator/regional ROM to my deivce.
I was UK Voda trying to flash EU Voda onto it.
See here
i too have the same issue with louisodwyer!! im totally new so can someone please help. im currently on 1.28.401.9
many thanks
Does anyone have the 1.29.xx .img file to post here? Mine was showing available for update, and has now vanished completely....
Thanks!

Where are you getting the froyo rom at? You might have to find a flashable one and do it in recovery, or factory reset so you don't have a newer version.

How comfortable are you with ADB, Mr. Schust3r5? if you use this string of ADB commands it will allow you to flash the older froyo PB31IMG.zip so you can root.

Start at step 4) downgrade with ADB.

[SOLVED] HTC One X cannot update after getting back to Stock ROM

Hey guys,
I have been lurking around the forums for sometime now and I could not find the solution to my problem so I hope someone will be able to help me.
My HTC One X (cid : HTC__203) was rooted and I tried a few ROMS before deciding to sell it before getting the upcoming HTC One.
I used the RUU to flash the original ROM I bought the phone with. I've found the file using this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807
Current phone version is :
Now the phone issue is that Android updates cannot be installed. OTA is working, updates are detected and downloaded :
If I just say Intall now, the phone restarts with CWM (v5.8.4.0) and says it cannot mount the SD card. So I just go to Install zip from sdcard and open the file from the download folder. Then it goes :
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package ...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So I toggle off both signature verification and get a new error about script asserts :
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update ...
assert failed: check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"), "00000000" , "11111111" .... (same pattern to 9 then comes some CID numbers where my phone one is listed)
, "HTC__001" ............... , "HTC__203" , .... , "HTC__016") == "t"
E: Error in /sdcard/Download/OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_and_blablabla.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.
From there I don't know what to do. I tried to download and install the last RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.27_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_298897_signed
But it fails as well :
My knowledge of phone tweaking does not go further and I don't know what to do to update my phone and make sure next updates will work.
Thanks for reading and for your help.
Re: HTC One X cannot update after getting back to Stock ROM
You cant update via a custom recovery !
Download this file
http://bugsylawson.com/index.php/fi...-r-radio-5120416229-release-302015-signedexe/
Read carefully :
Put the phone in the bootloader and relock it
Fastboot oem lock
Keep the phone in the bootloader and then click the ruu with the right mouse button and select :
"Run as administrator"
This will bring it back to stock.
What is the outcome of
Fastboot getvar version-main
Edit : i cant see the pictures very well, they are small and get blurry when i zoom them

Ok well that helps a lot. I'll try and install the stock recovery. So from what I understand, every time I'll want to install OTA updates, I'll just have to switch back to stock recovery, install the update and then reinstall CWM if I need it ?
Thanks for the info

Now error is different.
E:missing bitmap oem_unlock_bg

E:missing bitmap oem_unlock_bg_yes
(Code -1)
E:missing bitmap oem_unlock_bg_no
(Code -1)
finding update package...
opening update package...

L500CT.01.101.007
Verifying current system...
"/system/fonts/Robonto-Bold.ttf" has unexpected contents.
E:Error in data/media/0/Download/OTA_M*.......zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted
So I guess the font is creating the issue now.
Is there any way to flash stock rom on my phone ?
Is it possible ?
And which one should I flash/choose ?

You need a ruu that starts with that version number you have *.**.118 or a stock backup that has *.**.118
The stock backup method also works with lower ones.
