how to uninstall unrevoked....
V

just dont do it...
I would just get rid of unrevoked, and do a FULL root and you can have all teh OTA goodness without the worry.
I am sure most devs will have roms based on this code within a day... (Some devs (check out the fresh line) already have the code being posted to servers for their donors)

Uninstall unrevoked
Same boat here, how to uninstall unrevoked.

z4root full root

this works for me can't promise that it would work for anyone else....but if you use z4root and get temporary root you can then use rom manager to fully root your phone which will last after reboot and everything....
z4root gives you temporary root and Rom manager lets you flash a custom recovery/roms.
I don't see how a combination of the two would or could give you a NAND Unlock.

He is correct... s-off / nand unlock is necessary for full root.. the evo is easy to root anyways....

all i know is that i have done it twice and everything works including backing up or restoring
Thanks for this. I've had evo since launch, and it was easy to root 2.1, but am terrified if i need a freeplacement.
I'm sure ill try this first.

Typically you don't have to worry about it for a freeplacement, If you root it all you have to do is flash a stock RUU and everything will go back to orignial. I had to take my wifes for repaired yesterday due to the flash quit working. I just installed a stock RUU from sprint. Had it fixed, went home re-rooted and restored with nandroid and you would never know.
Just use unrevoked. Its super easy to fully root your phone.

worked for me on a friends htc hero. The download I used though gave my computer a virus and was caught by windows defender after the fact so be carefull were you download it from.
but the thing you will be missing is the ability to do a NANDbackup! Among other things that full root gives you.

Installing new update with s-off?

Is it possible to install the new update with s-off. I have a stock rom and read the new update supposed to fix the battery threshold and I like the look. I know its not rootable yet but ive been reading some have been successful and just put amon ra recovery on it.Anyone know?

You can just get the rooted version of it on this site if you do the ota you will lose root and so far there is no way to get it back yet .

Why install the OTA when there are complete ROMS here that are better than what you're gonna have with stock 2.3.3???

It is possible if you're s-off with Unrevoked Forever on Froyo. I had to switch to Amon Ra in order to install the update and then reflash Amon Ra after the update. Had to update Superuser after that but after that was fully rooted on the update.
There are several stock rooted versions of the OTA available, there's no reason that you need to lose root just to have the latest update.
If you are keen on losing root though, then go for it. You can install it with S-Off just fine, and since it'll remain S-Off you'll be able to flash a recovery on there and re-root by flashing a rooted rom.
If your intent is to have the latest update but also have root, then just flash one of the already-rooted stock roms available in the Android Development forum.
To hip kat, I actually don't like any custom roms, I'm an ogee only person and I tweak what I want or need myself. To tempe, how did you get clockwork off first assuming you had it? Also I used the unrevoked3 method but since mine is sprint, it automatically does a perm nand unlock.

Well, easiest is to just use Rom Manager to flash alternate recovery, that's what I did before running the OTA. After, you'll need to do it manually. If you search here on "recovery" you should find threads that have the pc36img.zip files for both Clockworkmod and Amon Ra. After installing the OTA, turn off the fastboot option under Settings/Applications. Copy the pc36img.zip file for the recovery you want to use to the SD card, shut down your phone and then hold volume down while turning it back on. Just follow the prompts on the screen from there. After the recovery is installed you should be able to boot up and have root. If the Superuser app give you FC's search around here for the fixed superuser zip and flash it.
You can go S-on with the Unrevoked S-On tool....
I don't want s-on hip, trying to keep s-off. And thanks tempe for your help.

Ok turns out im having problems installing the update, I forgot I deleted system apps. Here's the error:

According to the error you posted, it's just the blockbuster app that your missing. Did you uninstall other system apps? Or just that. You need to have all your system apps installed for it to work. I'll attatch the blockbuster app for you. You'll need to install it to /system/app using ADB or using Root Explorer. If adb, do this
adb remount
adb push Blockbuster_htc.apk /system/app
adb reboot
If using root explorer, just copy the apk to the /system/app folder and set the permissions the same as all the other apps in the system folder.
Also, it would be much easier for you just to flash a rooted stock rom. Here's a link for ya. You'd just flash the rom like normal, from within recovery. It'd save you some hassle.

As much as I would love to see that happen (for my own amusement), I do believe in bad karma and if you let someone do that knowing what they're about to get into then you're properly gonna get the bone too......who knows, your phone might just blow up on the way to work while you're playing angry birds or some crap...hahahaha
I've already chosen to just do the rooted ota but I'm trying to figure out if I need to flash the radio. The second link in the topic is showing 2.15.00.04.08 but mine is higher at 00.11.19. The combined link with pri and wimax is the one I don't know yet

I don't believe flashing the radio is necessary if you're doing the stock ota, I didn't have any issues with my current radio while I was using stock 2.3.3 (or any other ROM that I've used so far)
Alright I did the de-odex rooted ota but now the problem is once booted up, I cant update the prl or profile, it gives me an error. Im re-wiping the dalvik cache to see if that fixes it but is there any other steps I should try?
Side question, is a stock rom that came with the phone or an ota update a odex or de-odex?
Thanks for this thread, I have been searching high & low to see if S-Off would stay off or automatically turn back on. Thanks for the clarification!

I ended up testing myself to know for sure and S-Off will stay off if you do the OTA update. If you want to start rooting again, just download Amon_Ra Recovery, and Bam, flash any Rom you want! Thanks for the starting of the thread! Confirmed!

don't get what that would do. I have root and s-off. I'm using brads lastest rooted stock rom. Maybe I'm missing what your saying. Could you be clearer, I know a little but am still fairly dumb in these matters. I usually wait for dev to make nicely packaged zips or what not

Time Warner Cable app for rooted phones

I downloaded the time Warner Cable app today, then it said it was for Android 4.0 or higher. So I flashed the sensewich rom (sense 4.0) and it said the app isn't for rooted phones. Does anyone know a way to get it to work on gingerbread or a rooted 4.0 rom?
The app runs, but I can't view live tv.

Try the Market app "OTA Rootkeeper", which has the ability to temp unroot. Not sure about the Time Warner app you are talking about, but OTA Rootkeeper seems to work for other movie streaming apps with root restrictions.
If I recall, some applications do a check for the superuser apk on the phone. If the Root Manager doesn't work, you may want to try renaming the SU app.
Thanks for the responses, but how do I use the ota root thing? It's the voo doo app?
Edit: nevermind

To be clear, you installed OTA Rootkeeper, opened the app, and selected temp unroot? You may need to also reboot, to make sure nothing is lingering in memory that would indicate root.

Use a file explorer (needs root) to rename superuser.apk in /system/app/
Thanks for trying, but none of those worked. Oh well.

If it works the same way as the previous OTA, you just flash supersu.zip in recovery after taking the update and you have root again. I haven't personally tried it yet so hopefully someone else can chime in to confirm that's how it would work.
EDIT: just tried this and that's exactly how it works. If you're s-off and take the OTA, just flash a custom recovery afterwards, then flash superuser.zip and you'll have root access.

Or just flash a ROM based on the new OTA, once us DEVs get the ROMs updated.
unless you want to stay on stock with root.
then you are perfect.

it is confirmed though that if you have S-OFF you can take the OTA and keep S-OFF?
Wonder why the delay on the OTA then.
also wonder why they'd give us this useless update, sure Android 4.3 is great and all, but we are running HTC Sense UI...
Why the hell didn't HTC update THEIR Sense UI!?
Sense 5.0 sucks compared to 5.5
HTC actually finally listened to the users on Sense 5.5 and added in great features including blinkfeed on/off toggle, No Do Not Disturb Mode (really the ONLY thing I wanted outta this update)
and no option to re-order the quick setting tiles on stock.
Lyapota did a great job giving us the re-order MOD, but it's just upsetting to me after the wait, really the only new feature I've found is the opportunity to separate ringtone and notification volumes.

I just did this myself. When I got my One a couple of weeks ago I went from stock out of the box to unlocked, S-OFF, and rooted with rumrunner. I just restored the stock recovery through adb, reinstalled the few bloatware apps I'd uninstalled with Titanium, and let the OTA run. After that I reflashed my custom recovery, and with that I then flashed supersu.zip. I'm now updated through the OTA and still unlocked, S-OFF, and rooted.
