CM6 2.2 stock gallery SUCKS, is there a replacement? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The gallery app in sense is faster then the 3g gallery app in aosp froyo(never thought I would say sense is faster). It's slow in loading images(even worse with large images), doesn't like to refresh the folders when I add new images, hates to load large folders.
Is there a replacement app I can use and get rid of the 3d gallery?

I -hate- the 3D Gallery. The Eclair 2D gallery was much better.
The only alternative I've found is bread and butter gallery (B&B Gallery) but its a bit iffy too. Why isn't there a fast lightweight gallery that works well anywhere? Ugh

I found out that the 3d gallery on the OpenDesire rom is quiet slow. Where is the original gallery?

I agree, I cant stand this coolris or whatever the name is. Its definitely not an original Google app - it looks cool, but the payoff is performance degradation
I also noticed some bugs, i.e. duplicate albums.. anyone else has the same issue?
I would also like an alternative to gallery 3D. It doesn't play gifs either.

its slow as hell.. where can i get another version? the standart one..
it would be great for me too to have a faster gallery, just as it was' HTC's. just cannot stand the 3D one, too slow for my 590pix. and do not want to delete in order to have it faster...

[Q] Gallery 3d... really worth having?

Hello all
prehaps im missing the point, and it is just that its in 3d. but why are so many people interested in gallery 3d over the stock htc desire gallery.
stock has access to facebook and seems faster.
whats so good about it?
The 3D gallery is more polished and visually appealing. The HTC gallery on the other hand is better optimized. It's faster and it renders pictures at a higher quality when you zoom. Depends on what you want really. I used to have the 3D gallery and even with the quality hack it didn't render pictures as well as the HTC gallery and it was a bit sluggish on the Desire.
also dont know whats all the fuss about gallery 3d
there is nothing 3d about it - yeah, you have to tilt your phone (and you have to get it right or else it wont register the movement) and tiles of pictures shift to the side
dont see any real use to it - it doesnt even have that "cool" factor since its useless
+ its slow as hell compared to normal gallery
Yeah i hate when it is included in roms as i do not use it at all. It's so freaking slow. HTC Gallery everytime where possible.
lol, so glad its not just me, know to work out how to package a rom after i remove it each time....
gallery 3d has integration with picasa web albums. that`s why ivuse it.
Is it possible to put HTC Gallery instead of 3D in Custom ROM?

[Q] Gallery issue

I have the CM 6.1 RC4 Rom flashed and I cannot stand the 3D gallery. It's horrendous and some apps that I install, have their pictures (yahoo fantasy app comes with LOTS of subway pictures). It's a headache and I just wish I had the HTC stock gallery which lets you "hide" folders in the media.
Is there another gallery app that I can use or can the HTC gallery be used without its ROM?
I know people might suggest doing the .media file/folder naming, but doesn't that effect the app that requires some of these images that im hiding from the gallery?

Hey mate, thx for rq,
I just installed this one, but it seems to be the same, when i zoom the pictures, its the same zoom quality, i think the stock gallery app from android 2.2 is much better, but dont know where to finde it :S
^The Gallery app that is linked in the above post gave me issues on Darky's rom with a JPY 2.2.1 base. It didn't build thumbnails properly and showed "no items" when I would try to scroll through the contents of subfolders.
The version of that Gallery was 1.1.30683.
Attached is Gallery 1.1.30682. It seems to work a lot better for me. Give it a shot. Don't forget to clear your current Gallery app data before swapping. (Menu->Settings->Applications->Manage Apps->(show) All->Gallery->Clear Data)
Hope this helps, let me know if it doesn't!

different Gallery3D.apk tests
I tested different versions of galleries which I've gathered since I started messing with galleries some time ago... I tagged each screenshot and apk with filesize, because I lost track from where each apk came from. I'd appreciate if somebody could help me identify them properly.
these versions are:
Gallery3D.apk 713KB - from post above me
Gallery3D.apk 973KB - probably stock 2.2?
Gallery3D.apk 1021KB - probably stock 2.2.1?
Gallery3D.apk 604KB (desire) - "hacked gallery" - the one which comes with SGS tools, or Darky's ROM 8.0
and results:
- all stock galleries (713, 973, 1021) have same crappy quality whem zooming
+ all stock galleries (713, 973, 1021) have not any ugly pattern over photos when no zoom is applied
+ all stock galleries (713, 973, 1021) are fast
? 1021 stock gallery has backward ordering of photos (newest are first)
+ 604 desire gallery has better quality when zooming probably due to less jpeg compression, and better colors
- 604 desire gallery is slow
- 604 desire gallery has some weird pattern over some images (those which are landscape and viewed in portrait mode and vice versa) when no zoom applied
- Note: when migrating from/to 604 desire gallery, you will loose an option for each photo "show on map" (GPS tags are ok, because it works in 3rd party apps)
(I didn't test any of these galleries for sensor bug, battery drain or whatsoever...)
conclusion:
THEY ALL ****ING SUCK
why the hell does the SGS have 5Mpix camera when you cannot take full advantage of it by zooming your photos?? And don't tell me that the SGS's hardware can't handle 5Mpix photos...
update:
I just switched to JustPictures! app and its great! screw you Gallery3D
update2:
Switched to QuickPic which is simplier than JustPictures! but it performs better
I have froyo 2.2.1 with its stock gallery3d and i noticed that after a few hours of non use, it gets killed and when you start it up it takes forever for it to load all the pictures an folders instaid if been instantaneous.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Nexus 7 and QuickPic

Hi all,
i found that stock Jelly Bean gallery is much faster and working much better then QuickPic with larger files, this is strange for me because QuickPic was much better then any stock gallery on other devices. Do you have similar behaivor?
Best regards
I can't confirm this,
pics from my cam (about 5-7 mb each) opens much faster in quickpic than in gallery.
QuickPic about 50% faster here...
so this problem is with my device?
Stock gallery are faster much faster than quickpic on some large images (really large actually) here too.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Yeah, quickpic is slower with some of the larger files.
I use F-stop when I want to do some browsing for a long time (reading a manga, or whatnot), and I use quickpic for quickly checking out downloaded images or whatnot.
Well QuickPic is slower if you've got a huge library. But it makes up for that by being superfast in loading pictures. I've got shots from my Digital camera on my phone, and they open up faster than gallery.
