(Q) Froyo Custom Boot Animation? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried a couple Froyo ROMs since they started rolling out this past week and I can't seem to push a new boot animation using the boot replacer program, has anyone noticed this? Did they move the location of where they keep the bootanimation.zip?

Yes. The "real" location for 2.2 is /data/local/ (for non NAND-unlocked phones) and /system/media/ (for fully unlocked phones).
However, one big problem? 2.1 animations are choppy, and boot sounds will not play.

Well I have NAND so it's in the same place. I can't seem to get the program to work, I couldn't find the thread through search so could you tell me how to push it via adb?
EDIT: Found the way in an old thread to push it via adb but it won't recognize the bootanimation.zip in the sdk/tools folder. Damnit. XD

[Q] Trouble Changing Boot Animation

Im running CM 6.1.1-Stable with pershoots kernel (rooted via gfree method) and I am trying to use the Droid X boot animation on my phone. However, I keep getting the default android bootanimation with silver text with the word "android" and some intermittent shining of the text.
I downloaded the bootanimation from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710204
I copied both the audio and the bootanimation.zip files to /system/media according to these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9118652&postcount=12
It erases the cyanogenmod boot animation, but instead i get the default silver android text bootanimation. I tried deleting the system/media/bootanimation.zip file and placing the new bootanimation.zip and audio in /data/local but this resulted in the same default bootanimation.
Am I missing something here? Most people seem to be able to easily change their bootanimation by pushing the file to /data/local, but for me, the cyanogenmod bootanimation in /system/media seems to take priority. Either way, pushing the bootanimation to either /system/media or /data/local is not working. Any ideas?
Also, do I need to do anything special to get the droid sound to work besides pushing it along with the bootanimation.zip file?
Anyone? Id really appreciate any insight that can be offered!

it's because the first link is for changing the boot animation
the second link is for changing the splash image
you need to find the directions for overwriting the bootanimation, not the splash image.
fwiw, i was looking for the instructions when i found this thread
here's the instructions you're looking for

Are you doing an ADB Remount? Try this:
Code:
adb devices
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
If it doesn't work for the /data/local then do the following:
Code:
adb devices
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
NOTE: I put it in the code box because essentially that's what it is. Make sure when you do the ADB Push you put the full file path where the bootanimation.zip is located
Reboot the phone to see if it takes the change. Either that, or you can always try an ADB Shell > bootanimation. This will show the boot animation, and then just CTRL + C to stop it. But if the ADB shell doesn't show it, definitely try a reboot and let us know.
Good luck
Still the same

I have exactly the same problem with my desire S. Nothing seems to be working apart from the regular android animation (not even the original rom animation which i re copied). Was this ever solved?

Trouble changing boot animation

I posted this in Q&A but got no responses. I'm hoping someone here may have some advice.

Download a boot animation from this section. I know someone ported the Droid image to the G2.

Yes try one from this section the one you downloaded isn't sized for our screen so probably won't play, so the phone plays the old default. If you want this one pm me and let me know

When you place your bootanimation.zip do you use adb or terminal emulation?
Is so much easier with a terminal emulator
Place your bootanimation.zip in the root of your sdcard
Open terminal emulator
-su
-cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
This will not give you any feedback if it was done correctly but it will if you get an error
-reboot

[REQ]Bootanimation From OS 1.0

Im looking for the boot animation for OS 1.0. Can anyone help me out?
I'm Br1ck'd's guy who was looking for the boot animation for you over the weekend. The problem I'm running into is that every ROM I can find is in the *.nbh format, so there is no way I can actually go in and grab the information. However, I haven't given up, and if I do find a way I'll let you all know.

OK, so you're hosed with your request. Apparently, the boot animation is locked until at least Cupcake. So I can get you the Cupcake boot animation no sweat. But when I flashed my G1 back down to stock 1.0 there is no way to run Super User on it. You have root access, however when running something like Terminal Emulator and type "SU" you'll still get permission denied errors even though you have root access. Lame, I know.
So for giggles, I adb pulled every file from the root of the phone. No dice. There is no animations, period. Even searching every friggin' *.png file, there is nothing there for the boot animation. I can flash a new boot animation to the phone, but all that does is mask the original one, which is hidden somewhere in the *.nbh file. However, either I am not smart enough, or there is no way to do it as of yet, but I cannot get into the *.nbh file, period.
So I figured "OK, I'll try an emulator". That also failed, as the earliest emulator I can find is the emulator for Cupcake. So I then tried to use the emulator to flash a different ROM, which failed because as it reboots it goes back to stock Cupcake. Which is lame (they should really have a save state or something).
The next step I tried was downloading an older version of the Android SDK. Again, nothing available to me until Cupcake. I could have possibly loaded it in Eclipse, but I don't have Eclipse and don't prefer to have Eclipse, and I doubt that it would have made a difference since searching every folder in the SDK packs turned up nothing. I even loaded the SDK packs on my Mac, just in case there was a different set of files. Nothing.
Since I'm still on 1.0 I did try to do an ADB Shell, but any command gives me permissions issues. It's probably because of the root issue with the stock image. I don't really know, I just know I can't do it.
So my final attempt was that I downloaded a *.nbh explorer for the Windows 7 phones, but it doesn't work because of the signing issues.
Ultimately, you're not going to be getting the boot animation from me. I've tried and failed Sorry man. Good luck though!
You mean the "Glowing Android" bootanimation?
I was looking for it a few weeks ago, and made my own with the resources in the 1.0 build.
It's 800x480, you might have to resize it to 320x480.

[Q] boot animation doesnt override

Hey all. I'm having trouble adding a custom boot animation. I've been trying to use adb push to move it to /data/local/. It seems to work initially. Cmd shows it moved over the full zip file and I can see it in my phone with root explorer but when I restart my phone it just uses the default animation. I'm trying to switch to the bios boot animation that I've found on the forums. Ive only had my Incredible for about a week so its mainly stock other than rooted. Any advice? Thanks

My boot animation is actually in /system/customize/resource, maybe you could try sending it there and see if it works? Also, just checking, it is named bootanimation.zip right? I believe that matters lol, not sure. I'm sorry if I wasn't helpful, I don't exactly know much about boot animations tbh.

Yeah, it has the right name but still isn't working even in the folder you suggested. Also the zip file just has the part0, part1, and desc.txt files in it so I'm not sure exactly what the problem is. I'm pretty new to the droid scene. Thanks for trying though.
Finally! After a lot of searching I found out it needs to be named VZW_bootanimation.zip and the sound file is VZW_Droid.mp3 with Froyo at least. It actually is in /system/customize/resource/ after all. I just didn't scroll that far down since I didn't know about the name change. It does replace the stock animation file though so I saved it in another folder before replacing it in case I ever want to go back. Thanks for the help
The file name and location depend on the ROM being used.

Custom Boot Animation Question

OK, so I just downloaded and installed Sinister's latest ROM, if you haven't checked it out it is awesome. The only problem I am having is that I can not get my boot animation to install. Is there a new way with the latest updates to install the boot animations (I have the Android pissing on the Apple Logo)???
Have you tried using adb to push the bootanimation.zip? May want to check with the ROM dev on the proper name for bootanimation.zip (I know it is different on Sense 1.0 roms) as well as the proper location to push to.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Nexus_One/Guides_&_Tutorials#Updating_boot_animation
The file will be in either /system/customize/resource or /data/local. Rename your bootanimation.zip to the name of the previous one and you should be good to go.
Is not the bootanimation that has the problem not installing its the rom that has a bug and it wont let you mount system as writable but i believe hes working on a fix
